8 DOG SLEDDING
DOG SLEDDING
Dog sledding is an easy activity that is suitable for everyone, even young children. There are normally two people to a sled, one standing up controlling the direction and speed (known as ‘mushing’) while the other is seated. Some providers require one of the guests to do the mushing, while others provide a guide. In the latter case, you need to inform the provider if you wish to try your hand at mushing. Let the provider know beforehand if you have any relevant health conditions.

ARCTIC ACTIVITIES
The snow mobile has made life easier for many people in the Arctic as well as being a popular recreational activity – a faster and easy way to explore. A reindeer and a sled driven by a Sami - what else conjures up images of an Arctic experience? The reindeer are owned by the indigenous Sami people, making these trips an ideal way to encounter their culture. Another iconic Arctic animal is the Icelandic horse which is particularly sure-footed, making this a suitable opportunity even for people with no previous riding experience.

BOAT TRIPS & ICE FISHING
Don’t let the cold or reduced daylight hours put you off from fishing or enjoying a boat trip. Once the lakes have frozen it’s time to go ice fishing. You are shown how to drill your own hole in the ice, bait the line… and enjoy the thrill of the wait. Be prepared to feel a few degrees colder while on a boat or frozen lake. You will be given an extra outer layer of waterproof clothing to take the chill off, but you still need to dress warmly underneath.
