To make sure that you feel comfortable during our trip you can borrow thermal outfits, warm winter boots, hats and gloves for free. Our experienced guides will explain the history and science behind the Northern Lights and will give camera support. They also take portraits of you and the best pictures will be sent to your e-mail address. AI103 Aurora Chase Alta - Deeper Into the North for Your Northern Lights Adventuree
GuideGunnar Oct 15 - Apr 10 In your chase for the magical Aurora Borealis I will bring you to where the best weather conditions are, and if we have to stay out on the trail an hour more because of that, I won't charge you extra for it. I am working consistently finding the best conditions possible for my guests to experience our magical Northern lights. What is most important to me is that you as a guest shall have the absolute best possibility to experience what you have come here for: to see the dance of Aurora in the nighttime skies.
AI109 Hunting the Northern Lights - Evening Walk NORD Ekspedisjon Sep 15 - Apr 15 Alta is located just below the Aurora Oval, and because we have an inland climate and often clear weather, Alta is the perfect destination for experiencing the northern lights. We start the trip and the story telling from the Northern Light Cathedral. After a short visit we will leave the city center and head down towards the fjord, where it all started. We can track the Northern Lights research in Alta all the way back to 1838 and the French "Le Reserche" expedition, who went ashore here in Bossekop, Alta. We will see if we can recognize the area from some old pictures from this expedition. This trip will end up by our fireplace near the sea where we will enjoy the silence of the arctic and have warm drinks and snacks. Hopefully the weather is clear, and we will spot the wonderful Northern Lights.
AI133 Hunting the Northern Lights by Car
NORD Ekspedisjon Sep 15 - Apr 15 This tour is all about exploring the Northern Lights and you'll spend the almost 4 hours finding the best location for Aurora viewing. We start the trip in a showroom to get some knowledge and understanding of the amazing phenomenon. After the informative start the guide will point out a direction of tonight’s hunt and we’ll get dressed and head out in the dark night. We’ll take you out hunting in our comfortable WV Highline Mulitvan, which is always heated for you. We can't tell you beforehand where this tour takes you other than that we will follow the weather forecast and drive away from the city to a location where there's total darkness. If the sky is clear, you might be lucky to see a spectacular Northern Lights blaze on the night sky. We search for the Northern Lights by heading to secluded areas only accessible by car and local knowledge. Groups are small with max 6 guests + guide.
AI134 Northern Lights Chase in a Small Group
Gargia Fjellstue Sep 20 - Mar 30 This is the ideal tour if you want to chase the Northern Lights in a small group, with max 7 participants and personal service. Our guides have knowledge not only about the Northern Lights but also about the local culture, history of Alta and the Sami people. The weather will decide where the chase will go; maybe close to the coast, up into the mountains or out to the Sami region. The guide will share with you how to take good photos and if needed help you with your camera settings

NORD Ekspedisjon Sep 01 - Sep 30 Alta Canyon is the largest canyon of Northern Europe. This trip will give you a great experience of wonderful nature and it`s suits most people. You do not have to be in good physical shape to join this trip. The electric engine helps you bike, so you can use the energy to experience the magnificent scenery around you. The trip starts with 40 min driving from town and up on the mountain plateau by car. When we arrive our starting point, we will find bikes and equipment and prepare for a nice trip. We equip you with simple bike clothing and helmet. The clothing is wind- and water repellent, but is not warm. We therefore recommend that you wear warm clothes and shoes. We recommend wool, it gives the most warmth. Furthermore, you have to wear a warm hat and something on your hands, for example warm gloves. Bring also a warm jacket and a water bottle.

Here we have the opportunity to see fantastic arctic light as the sun begins to rise. From the end of November to mid January the sun will not reach the horizon before it goes down again, but even then the light will be a breathtaking experience. When we arrive in Kautokeino, the first stop will be the Juhls Silver Gallery, which was established in 1959 as the first silversmith in Finnmark. Juhls bases its work on Sami culture and in 2009, the owners were awarded the Finnmark County Cultural Prize for their work. We will take a break after Juhls for a lunch made with local ingredients and flavors - the taste of Finnmark - before we drive to visit a reindeer herd. HeliTours Jan 01 - Dec 31 If you are in Alta you won`t want to miss out on a trip to Sautso, northern Europe's largest canyon. This majestic canyon is situated along the Alta River, and is a truly beautiful sight from above. Bring your camera and capture your adventure forever. The tour starts from Alta airport. We lift off and head towards the Alta River, a world-famous river known for its huge salmon. Sport fishers come here from all over the world to fish - even royalty! We follow the river's course for 40 km to the point where the beauty of the Alta Canyon reveals itself. The canyon is about 400 meters deep and 7,5 km long, and holds the title as the Northern Europe`s largest canyon. At the end of the canyon we reach the power station and dam, the site of big environmental and political protests in the 1980s and the place where the Alta and Kautokeino rivers connect. We then turn back and fly over Tverrelvdalen, a beautiful river valley at the foot of a slate mountain, and finally back to Alta airport.
HeliTours Jan 01 - Dec 31 Combine historic monuments and spectacular nature, mix with a helicopter's unique perspective, and you've got the recipe for a tour that could be the highlight of your holiday. On this trip we put two popular destinations together: the Northern Lights Observatory on Mt. Haldde, and Sautso, northern Europe's largest canyon. The tour starts from Alta airport. We lift off and fly towards the Haldde peak. At 900 meters over sea level, we will discover the Northern Lights Observatory. The first building was constructed in 1899 as a base to study weather and the northern lights, and Norwegian scientist Kristian Birkeland stayed there during the first winter season. In 1912, construction began on more buildings, and the base became the world's first permanent northern lights observatory. From there, we turn towards towards the Alta River, a world-famous river known for its huge salmon.
HeliTours Jan 01 - Dec 31 Come discover the vast, wild arctic land of Finnmark, Norway's northernmost county from the bird's-eye view of a helicopter. Have your camera ready as you travel from Alta to North Cape and back - this tour will give you nonstop photo opportunities! The tour begins at Alta airport, where we take off and set a course to the famous "northernmost point in Europe" - North Cape! Watch the natural world change below you from Alta's lush river valleys and tree-studded hills to the harsh and untamed plateau. If you are lucky you might even see a reindeer or two along the way. We will cruise over tiny villages and the rugged coastline, and the farther north we go, the more barren the landscape will become. The trees and scrubby bushes will give way to rocks and windswept outcroppings, until finally at the north coast there will only be the Barents Sea stretching as far as the eye can see. We will land at North Cape, and you will have an hour to explore the cape and visit the Center there before returning to Alta. Wild, beautiful arctic nature at its best, from overhead and up close - it's a rare experience of a lifetime!
