hen you look in the mirror, what do you see? Do you see the amazing body that carries you around all day, that gets you from point A to B, that carried your children or conquered that race? Or… do you see extra skin, folds, bones, marks, size, wrinkles? We are so quick to judge ourselves and to forget about the beauty that our bodies evoke. As we head into cooler months and tend to hide away under hoodies and jackets once more, remember that you can’t hide from yourself. Only you can change the way you feel and today is just as better time as any. For the next 99 days I am embarking on a fitness challenge like I’ve never experienced before. It’s time to push myself and see what i’m capable of. To meet the person I have pictured many times and to own the positive life changing thoughts and disregard the rest. Inside this issue, I talk to an inspirational woman who has been on an image journey and through her honesty and sheer passion for self love, is changing women’s thought patterns the world over. This month, change a small pattern and give your body some affirmation. “What you thought was your weakness is your strongest attribute.” - Miss Glamour Larue.

“I get a real buzz out of seeing people achieve and succeed. I love to share knowledge and provide thoughts and resources to empower people to get what they want and see that they can do it. Nothing is impossible, we just need to figure a way to get there.” Lisa

A new kind of workspace PHILIPPA MANNAGH

A

n exciting new concept is soon to be launched in Whangarei. The collaborative WORKSPACE is the innovative brainchild of Lisa and Brett Halvorson. Based in the centre of town, the modern, functional and thoughtfully designed space will contribute to the exciting development of Whangarei. It is a flexible approach to leasing offices and meeting spaces. WORKSPACE offers a chance to become part of a community - the main motivation behind this busy lady. Philippa grabs some time with Lisa between building demolition, job training and colour consulting for the funkiest spot in town.

What was your first job Lisa? My first job was working in a dairy saving up for a new walkman tape player. I loved the people contact and enjoyed the business running and learning about what made a business work well. Even back there I always took on responsibility and did whatever I needed to for the customer.

Ready choices. A practical approach to looking for and getting ready for work After working for a large corporate for 25 years I missed being able to make a difference to people’s lives that seemed very common sense to me however the company line was what I needed to follow. I am now creating opportunities for clients and people and I can see that I am making a difference every day and love seeing this happen in our community and Northland.

Is there a work success story you have witnessed (assisted with) with that stands out for you? I was working with a solo Mum. She had two kids and really wanted to get off a benefit and go to work to create a good role model for her kids. I managed to get her Work Ready and then find a job. I see her most days at her job in town and she is a real success story and role model for her family. So lovely to see this happen and be sustainable for her life.

What role are you in now?

What’s the heart drive behind what you do?

I am now self-employed assisting people with Work

create time that I can spend with them so that we enjoy this little things. I have two amazing little people ( niece and nephew ) in my life that are everything to me and if I can create time with them that is what it is all about. Brett and I have four children between us and although they are older now the things we can do are much greater and in the future we would love to be able to travel with them.

What would you like to see for Whangarei in the future? What is the vision behind the co-work space? I would like to see a lot more of the town basin walk loop areas where people can meet to enjoy time together. This concept is what we are creating for the business community with Work Space. A building where we can work together to achieve co working ideas and be around like minded people.

What’s your top tip to follow your passion? Be real and do what you know is the right thing. Plan and think about what the future you want looks like then make it happen. Have good support around you and then go for it!

“What you thought was your weakness is your strongest attribute.”

This pin-up beauty, who once hated photos taken of herself is now a viral sensation after The Daily Mail took hold of her empowering swimsuit image causing her bikini photograph to go viral. Hana Spana’s photo began to impact millions of women world wide and is changing the expectations of body image, something that she is very passionate about promoting. “I used to hate photos taken, now any photo I jump right in,” she says, “if I can make a difference in one persons life then it’s worth it.” “What you thought was your weakness is your strongest attribute.” This was all a big step for Hana having nervously stepped out sharing her image hardships through her blog originally. The response was so positive and many people related that she continued to share her self love journey. It wasn’t until joining the roller derby team that her belief systems started to change. For the first time, she felt empowered and her bootie was a means to a defence win not a constant image disappointment in her eyes. “Roller derby turned it all around,” she says. “I am known for my booty.” Although Hana is considered plus size she is passionate about promoting an active and healthy lifestyle and firmly believes that these can go hand in hand. This all came about from Hana’s new role promoting body positivity for all women as a brand ambassador for Australian brand City Chic active wear clothing. City Chic focus on plus size women from size 14 through to 24 and discovered Hana via her popular Instagram account. Further roles have opened up before her including model coaching for a new Auckland company as well as her new business venture, custom made rock-ability pin up skirts, The Curvy Collection. This early childcare teacher by day, sadly sees issues with body image come through from young ages. “I’m always trying to boost them up and reaffirm them.” “I’m so excited to be part of a change and always make sure I say I am from Whangarei. But oh, we were so wrong. It seems that in the world of shoes, it’s not just about what they look like. Individual preferences are deep seated, ingrained, widely varied and justified. It seems that every woman has her own personal story: “I can’t wear heels anymore – not since my knee operation…” “Never wear long boots, they don’t make them wide enough for my Kiwi calves…” “I’ve got a beach wedding so I have to have a wedge…” …” “I never go out anywhere so I just wear flats…” “I’ve got bunions, I need something that gives - it’s got to be leather” oss ‘With ankles like mine I can’t wear anything with a cross over strap – just accentuates them…” ow “You won’t see me out of heels ever, no-one knows how

Five Ways to Look More Relaxed in Photos SARAHLEE COBB

So far we have talked about doing away with the dreaded double chin, having good posture and standing/sitting sideways to look slimmer. This month we are going to cover hands. Have you ever looked at a photo of someone and thought to yourself they look so uncomfortable but you’re not sure why? Hands might not be something you think about when having your portrait taken but subconsciously they show so much body language. If you’re like most people you’ll feel awkward when a camera is pointed at you, even a little intimidated perhaps. The trick is to know what to do so you look confident even if you’re full of nerves inside. If you’re uncertain you might find yourself clenching your fists, stretching your fingers out stiffly or making them into claws (Picture 1). You won’t realise your doing this until you see the finished picture and notice how stiff, angry or uptight it looks. It’s so much more reassuring to do something with

Great Skin Benefits of Microdermabrasion CACI WHANGAREI TALKS TO SAVVY READERS

Have you heard of microdermabrasion but not sure what it actually does? This safe, non-invasive treatment offers multiple benefits to the skin for a glowing, youthful complexion. See what it can do for your skin below.

H

ow does microdermabrasion work? Microdermabrasion resurfaces your skin by gently removing the outer skin layer promoting a more vibrant, softer and glowing complexion. Crystals are blown at your skin under pressure and suctioned away simultaneously with a sterilised nozzle. This process removes dead skin cells and encourages circulation to the treated skin resulting in improved skin and promoting cell renewal. It is suitable for most skin types and requires no down-time or recovery with immediate results. Stimulates collagen production to treats fine lines By intentionally causing controlled damage to your skin (in a good way), the Microdermabrasion treatment encourages the production of collagen; when our skin is damaged it learns to stimulate the underlying layer of skin cells which have higher levels of collagen and elastin, resulting in reduced fine lines and wrinkles. Improves skin tone & texture

This treatment exfoliates away dead skin cells which is often the cause of a dull, aged complexion. New skin is revealed beneath, which is younger and healthier, with a smoother, more youthful appearance. Helps with clogged pores and congested skin Microdermabrasion is like dry cleaning for your skin. It thoroughly clears clogged pores of oil and dirt to de-congest skin. This makes skin look clearer and helps with acne and blemishes. For even better Microdermabrasion results? Add a Glycolic To get the very best results from your microdermabrasion, a glycolic facial is often added. A glycolic is a fruit acid peel which helps exfoliate away dead skin cells and prepare the skin for microdermabrasion. For best results, we recommend a course of microdermabrasion treatments. If you would like to find out more call Caci Whangarei on 0800 458 458 and book a free skin consultation to see if it is right for you.

We are Floatzone and we opened the first float pod centre in Northland in May 2015. Our latest venture is that we are the exclusive distributors of BLANTs well-being and lifestyle products in NZ. How this came about is we needed 500kg of Epsom Salt for our float pod but we couldn’t find the amount we needed in New Zealand, for a good price, and with a reliable supply. We placed our order with BLANTs in Australia. They mentioned that they had quite a lot of interest from NZ, but shipping rates for orders made the costs prohibitive. A few months later we took delivery of our first container of their lovely products….

Describe your business. We sell premium quality well-being products at affordable prices. We deliver all over NZ with very affordable freight costs. Currently available to purchase from the BLANTs NZ website are Epsom Salt, Magnesium Chloride Flakes, Magnesium Oil, Sodium Bicarbonate and Borax, with more products coming soon.

What has been your biggest business challenge over the past year, and how are you tackling it? Letting people know who we are and what we do, with a small budget. We are active on our business Facebook pages and have just started putting some photos on Instagram. With

WOMEN IN B USINESS

It’s not your every day run of the mill business

My first school holiday job was working as a receptionist temp at an engineering

questionnaires to classes of bored teenaged school kids, and selling souvenirs and lollies to desperate parents of screaming toddlers at the local wildlife park. My first ‘real’ job after uni was being a call centre Customer Service Manager for Tesco in the UK. Which on some days made great use of my psychology degree!

What is the strangest thing you have ever bought? The strangest thing turned out to be the most amazing thing - the float pod! An egg-shaped capsule that you fill with 500kg of Epsom Salt and warm water for people to float in and relax away their stresses and worries. It’s not your everyday run of the mill purchase!

If you could be anyone else, who would you be, and why? If it could be anything else, then I’d say our dog – he gets lots of love and attention, walks to the park to play with other dogs and swim in the river, bones to chew, toys to play with, heaps of down time in the day to laze in the sun, someone providing all his meals. No work to do, no house to tidy, no taxes to pay… the ultimate relaxed life!

Floatzone, local networking is possible eg giving talks to sports groups about the benefits of floating. But because the BLANTs products are sold nationally, that’s something new for us to learn.

What do you do in your leisure time? Meeting friends for coffee and cake. Or, as I now call it, thanks to the Mums in Business Group – networking! Walking the dog is another great way of meeting people for a chat while keeping active - Barge Park or the Loop are favourites. I enjoy going to the gym and for a swim. If I’m with the kids it has to be outdoorsy stuff like cricket or basketball to help them burn off their energy. If I’ve got time to myself I like to read/do some Pilates/soak in an Epsom Salt bath/eat more cake. Depending on mood!.

What awards or accolades are you most proud of? It’s nice to have my degree (MA Hons Psychology), but I prefer the smaller ‘accolades’ in life, like getting a thank you from someone for a job well done, or for offering that bit more than they expected. Letters from children in class when I’ve helped out at school make me feel great. Cheesy I know!.

What community or charity initiatives do you currently support? Floatzone provided prizes for the recent Zest Pink Loop walk that raised money and awareness for the Breast Cancer Support Northland Trust. During the month of March, Floatzone also donated 10% of all floats sold to BCSNT. We will do similar things in the future with charities that are close to my heart. We also provide prizes for the Sport Northland Run/Walk Series, which is a great community initiative up here.

What is your proudest moment? It’s a long moment, an on-going one – I’m proud that we’ve set up our own business. It was done initially to be able to spend more time with our children. Who knew it was actually so much hard work?! But I think we’re getting the balance right, and our children also seem proud that we have a family business. So that’s great.

What is your most embarrassing moment? I have this lovely memory that conveniently forgets nasty things. For instance uni exams,

Factors that can increase your risk of floaters include: • Age over 50 • Nearsightedness • Eye trauma • Complications from cataract surgery • Diabetic retinopathy • Eye inflammation

When to see a doctor Floaters are not in themselves a cause for concern especially if they have been present for months or years. However: • A sudden onset of new floaters • Showers of dust-like floaters • Sudden onset of flashes of light • Darkness at the edge of your vision (peripheral vision loss) Could be a sign, changes are happening at the back of the eye. You should have your eyes examined by an optometrist (optician) or an ophthalmologist as soon as possible. If you see an optometrist and they suspect, or find, or can’t rule out a tear in your retina, or a retinal detachment then they will refer you urgently to an ophthalmologist.

How are floaters treated? For people who have floaters that are simply annoying, no treatment is recommended. On very rare occasions, floaters can be so dense and numerous that they significantly affect vision. In these cases, a vitrectomy, a surgical procedure, that removes floaters from the vitreous, may be needed. Most eye surgeons are reluctant to recommend this surgery unless the floaters seriously interfere with vision. A laser can occasionally be used to disrupt the floaters.

How to Role Model Winter is Good Health to your Kids approaching CORINNE AUSTIN

A

s parents, you are permanently role-modelling acceptable behaviours to your kids. You’re in a unique position: your actions and role-modelling are two of the most powerful influences in their lives. If you wish for them to grow up happy, healthy, and well-informed about good lifestyle habits, then it’s time to review and reflect upon what you are currently unconsciously teaching them. It’s no longer just about ‘do as I say, not as I do.’ You need to be doing the doing too. Parents don’t need to be elite athletes or high performers to impact their child’s desire to engage in regular physical activity. It’s the simple act of planning and embarking upon regular exercise that is key here – from walking the dog to fixing up the deck, from picking rocks up out of the paddock to attending bootcamp sessions – it’s all physical activity. And all of these will be deemed normal ways of living when it’s viewed by the small people in

your household. Role-modelling is super powerful in itself, but is even more influential when it is backed up with parental facilitation, encouragement, and involvement in the child’s physical activity. Parents need to provide opportunities for their kids to be active in a fun and stimulating environment, praise and encourage these behaviours, and be involved in them too. So, how can we create opportunities to exercise as a family? • Explore natures playground – for example, visit a local beach, collect sea shells, and have races along the sand. • Treasure hunts & Hide and Seek. • Kick a ball. • Go to the park. Be a monkey yourself. Your energy will become their energy. • Buy some basic props. Skipping ropes and hoola hoops provide hours of entertainment. • Household jobs. Give them a couple each. It’s a race to see who can do the best quality job in the best time. • For birthday parties do something active – rock wall climbing or ten pin bowling. • Let the kids make up their own game. • Walk/ride to school and back. Or dawdle and collect stones. Either way, it’s more active than driving the car. The opportunities to exercise as a family are endless. Get involved in their activity and their health. And let them partake in the generational changes to wish to see in our younger population.

Hi Les Winter is approaching and I really don’t want to have a flu jab. What can I do to protect myself. Jackie, Whangarei The product I love, and which I have seen stop even the most severe colds and flu in it’s tracks, is Allicin which is a really powerful medicinal compound derived from garlic. Garlic is perhaps the most effective natural medicine in our modern age of antibiotic-resistant germs. Allicin does not occur in “ordinary” garlic, it is produced when garlic is finely chopped or crushed. The finer the chopping and crushing, the more allicin is generated and the stronger the medicinal effect. Stabilized Allicin is made in the same way that Allicin from fresh garlic is formed when we bite into it. This sophisticated process means that garlic’s active component (Allicin) can be captured and delivered directly where your body needs it. All my family use it, even my grandkids, and you can safely give it to children over the age of 3. Don’t take this if you take anticoagulants or before surgery. AllicinMax is available from www.nzhealthstore.co.nz Here in New Zealand we have our wonderful Manuka honey. For good anti-bacterial and anti-viral benefits, pick one with levels of activity more that UMF 16+ At the first sign of a cold take 1 teaspoon of Manuka Honey and let it melt slowly in the mouth, then swallow to coat out the mouth and throat. Do not eat or drink 15-20 minutes after taking the honey to keep the honey concentrated. Repeat 4-5 times a day throughout the day. Even if the cold has already started the honey helps to shorten the time you will have it Supplementing your diet with a daily multivitamin and mineral should be an essential part of your health regime during the winter months. Ask your local health store to recommend a good brand. Also during the flu season increase your dosage of vitamin C - studies have shown that the powerful antioxidants in vitamin C can reduce both the symptoms and duration of flu. As my regular readers will know, my favourite Vitamin C is the liposomal version available from www.johnappleton.co.nz Take one sachet daily.

Striped hall ceiling is as the hub of the home, central to all four bedrooms and seen from the living area, the hall was the ideal canvas. On went stripes in Resene Onepoto (blue), Resene Dust Storm (pink), Resene Knock Out (red) and Resene Alabaster (white), which is also the main wall and ceiling colour). The palette was inspired by a retro Tip Top Icecream sign bought off TradeMe which hangs in the lounge.

While it may only be in use when guests are coming to visit, you can still make an overlooked spare bedroom a delight by updating the linen, bedside tables and headboard. These three changes can completely spice up the space. Choose a yellow and white colour scheme as yellow is naturally warm and positive, sure to offer a welcoming vibe, while white brings a touch of elegance. Pale yellow linen, duvet and pillow cases can be complemented with whitewashed wooden bedside tables finished in Resene Colorwood Whitewash. This is a low-VOC stained finish, ideal to bring a Scandi style floor look into your guest bedroom. For the unexpected twist, create your own DIY headboard for the bed. Take an old, unused wooden door from a garage or shed off the frame, being careful to unscrew the hinges so it doesn’t damage the frame. Replace with a newer, sturdier door. Alternatively, take a trip to your local salvage yard and get an old door from there. Upcycle this aged, vintage door by turning it on its side and horizontally using it as a chic headboard above the guest bed. You could also stain this with Resene Colorwood Whitewash to match the bedside tables. If there are any carvings or patterns on the door, paint these grooves with Resene Bright Lights to suit the yellow decor. Prop up yellow decorative cushions and you’re all done! Or paint it your favourite colour and use it as a feature space. Finally, the queen of lifestyle advice Martha Stewart suggests adding small touches for your guest bedroom that make it feel

Splashback surprise

In a kitchen, the splashback is the piece of wall space behind a stove, sink or rangehood. It’s typically a glass, stone or tile surface designed to add some visual interest to this otherwise blank area of the wall. Take the same concept but liven up the blank back of bookshelves, cupboards and other storage shelving in your home. Wallpaper the back of your shelves in patterned paper all from the same colour scheme, such as Camargue and Ibiza for a blue palette, or Charm and Jack n Rose for a red hue scheme. Since the colour bonds the shelves together for cohesiveness, you can be as wild and bold with your wallpaper pattern choices as you like. These will peek out from behind your crockery, books and other items for an unexpected but exciting pop of colour and pattern.

Way to go, hallway A corridor or hallway is likely to be the most ignored space in a home, seen more as a connecting space than an area worthy of decor in its own right. But, a hallway can pack a major design punch and be the star of the show if styled well. Add a single strip of patterned wallpaper halfway along the corridor like a stripe, or if your hallway has a recess built into the wall, transform it into its own space by painting it in a dark colour such as Resene Bokara Grey and keeping a narrow hallway table in front of the recess. Keep a vase in the centre and display fresh flowers next to candles, pots in succulents and small ceramic or crystal decorative objects. You could even hang a mirror above the vase for a complete attractive look.

HOME TRENDS

Meanwhile, a complementary tone such as Resene Secrets or the bolder Resene De York will add touches of spring green. Try adding hints of these chirpy green shades around skirting boards or built-in shelving units.

Embracing white & pink in your home

Bright and light

It’s surprisingly easy to incorporate bold shades of pink like Resene Smitten

into spaces such as the kitchen without giving off a childlike vibe. The trick? It’s all about accents and complementary materials. Rather than painting the entire kitchen in this shade, use it to decorate overhead cupboards, while keeping benches and lower-level cupboards a gleaming white. Building materials that are naturally glossy along with a golden wooden floor will create a space that’s chic, that you can’t help but love cooking in. A breakfast bar with white stools on stainless steel bases continues to add to the fresh vibe, while a stainless steel fridge upholds the theme of sleek and chic. By adding splashes of colour up top, while balancing it out with neutral shades below, you will achieve a lightness and vibrancy with a shade that’s often cast aside.

Bedroom bliss

When it comes down to it, sometimes you can’t help but embrace the cheerful, flirty vibe that pink can bring. Magenta, white and cream look fantastic together, and no less in a bedroom. If you want to embrace the pink and white trend in the bedroom, it’s important to get individual components of the room right. For instance, if you opt for white walls, choose a carpet in shade of cream for a touch of subtle contrast. Add pink accents with decorative artwork, cushions, flowers and storage baskets, while keeping the room open with a white bedspread and open storage unit at the end of the bed. You can even create wall hangings yourself. Use Resene Find-A-Colour to find a few warm shades of pink, such as Resene Cabaret and Resene Tickled Pink. Along with a store-bought flexible canvas and stencil cut-outs, you can create a bold wall hanging that speaks to your personality in a single afternoon. From the bedroom to the living room and even the kitchen, it’s clear that pink can do much more than you might think!

W

hile shades of white, grey and beige carry a certain sophistication

and calm, these colours are not right for everyone. Sometimes, a dash of playful, fresh colour is needed in the home - whether achieved through paint, wallpaper, furniture or accessories.

Bench seat The salt sea air in your hair, sand between your toes and a hot pink Resene Smitten bench to relax on. Life couldn’t be better. It’s all set against an easy-to-achieve ombre wall, where colour graduates from light to dark - Resene Solitude, Resene Breathless, Resene Frozen and Resene Blue Moon. Alongside the seat, pots are painted in Resene Freefall (small) and Resene Skydiver (large) while the deck is in Resene Limed Ash stain. Add some tussock grasses, a beachy blanket and a hurricane lamp, and you’re ready to relax at the beach.

Fresh blooms

One of the most refined ways to embrace this trend is by opting for fresh shades of pink that are light and whimsical. Keep walls a crisp shade of white, with contrasting black cupboard handles and hanging lampshades. Add cane furniture and soft sofas in shades of beige, then highlight this open living space with touches of pink and green for a springtime feel all year round. Seek out cushions, picture frames and coffee tables in shades similar to Resene Devoted or Resene Pink Lace. These whimsical touches of pink help soften the contrast of the black and white, without imposing too much on the space.

Resene Smitten

One trend that’s been picked up on in the home decorating industry lately is the shift towards pink beyond young children’s rooms. While a perfectly pink bedroom is still a valid choice for a nursery or a young child’s bedroom, this colour can look equally fantastic in shared living spaces, master bedrooms and dining rooms. There are several ways to play around with this hue without falling into the trap of insipid salmon shades or creating a candy-pink cave. By focussing on the specific shade and how you use it, you can create some stunning results.

In Stephen Daisley’s first novel, Traitor, I found a world I had not really known before, one that was entirely masculine, peopled with stoic men whose lives were both brutal and tender. Coming Rain lingers with me in the same way. Set in the wheatbelt of Western Australia, the story revolves around the minutiae of the woolshed and the Outback. arents often open a bank account for their children when they are born and put a set amount away every week. When the child starts school, they are encouraged to be involved in the school banking system, (that is often offered by a local bank) and once again given money to put into this each week. BUT – at what stage are we telling them why this is happening or what we would like them to learn from this exercise. As parents, we should be starting to teach our children the importance of money as soon as they are old enough to understand the concept that “money gets us what we need and want” (which from grandparent experience, seems to be from the age of 3). When our kids leave home, they need to know how to handle the financial challenges they will face and be made aware of the dangers attached to credit cards and loan offers. Sometimes the best lessons come from poor decisions and realization that you can’t always have what you want when you want it. “You can never make the same mistake twice. The second time you make it, its no longer a mistake, it’s a choice”

Recipe

Chicken and cheese snack 1 cup flour 100g butter diced 1 cup grated cheese ½ tsp Baking powder 1 pkt crème of chicken soup 2 tbsp sesame seeds ¼ cup water (approx.) Put onto greased tray and bake at 180 for 10 – 15 mins til brown.

T

hey say that the odd years are the most challenging when dealing with ages and stage of kids, or is it the even numbers? If we are going with the odd years then we’re currently at war with a strong minded one year old, a testosterone surging seven year old and an emotional nine year old. Tripple whammy. It seems, in my experience, that you go through your calm seas and at other times, storms. When the quiet sea is softly lapping at the shore for too long, you know a tsunami could be brewing in the distance. We’ve had a few ripples lately and nothing more until all of a sudden… we were off. Hang on tight and put on your life jackets! A few significant life changes have contributed to this swell, but putting it plainly we had a storm ahead of us and it was due to these magic darling numbers. Hormones, tantrums, ignoring, emotional outbursts you name it and times three. At times, for a split second (or maybe longer) I would find myself steering out the kitchen window wondering what I’d done in a past life or looking to the heavens for some assistance as I tried to steer this boat with them. These are the times you are reminded that parenting isn’t for cowards.

On our kitchen blackboard has been a meal planner for the last… forever. I would write up what we were having for dinner and who was cooking - a very handy family tool. Tonight however, I looked at our weekly meal planner and knew it had to go. It was time for the big guns to take its place. Nigel Latta has returned into our home once more and I am quickly reminded never to “negotiate with terrorists”. Dude, where have you been!? Promptly, the meal planner is transformed into a LADDER OF CERTAIN DOOM. “This will surprise them over breakfast tomorrow,” I giggle (a mum style birthday treat to wake up to) Basically bedtimes are displayed on a ladder and if the said child is acting up then their bedtime goes back a half hour at a time. I will let you read the book to find out how this works exactly, but it sure does make sense and takes the yelling out of the equation. The power of a magnet or piece of chalk is incredible. Stay tuned for the next instalment when I share how this went for this next stage in our lives, the pre-tweens.
