SUMMARY OF PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
130 years of service and counting I’m often asked what Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) actually does and where we fit into the sport’s structure. Most of the time this line of questioning is linked to the fees paid by registered players participating in competitions or events sanctioned by Northern NSW Football as a Member Federation of Football Federation Australia (FFA). It’s fair enough that players and clubs want to know where their money is going and what they’re contributing to, so in response NNSWF has produced this document which provides stakeholders with a brief overview of the myriad of programs and services, which aim to grow, develop and promote every facet of our great game. I acknowledge the fees paid by footballers are higher than some other sports. There are a host of reasons including the fact we have nine National teams competing in the globe’s biggest and most competitive sport, but the most relevant reason is that our premier elite competition, the Hyundai A-League is in its infancy compared to some of the other high profile domestic competitions and as a result the sport does not derive the same levels of revenue from broadcast rights, attendance, merchandise sales and sponsorship. Whilst the A-League continues to grow in popularity the reality in the foreseeable future is that players will
continue to be required to invest through their registration fees in organisations such as NNSWF who are charged with ensuring that the game continues to prosper. We’ll do our best to focus on the needs of players and make their football experience as enjoyable as possible, however, I encourage all players to take pride in the fact that they’re personally contributing to FFA’s long term vision of establishing Australia as a truly world-class football nation. 2014 and 2015 will be exciting years for football in Australia. In June 2014 the Socceroos will take on the world’s best in the FIFA World Cup Brazil, whilst in January 2015, Australia will host the second largest football tournament in the world – the AFC Asian Cup Australia 2015. These two events will collectively focus the attention of an audience of millions worldwide on our sport and reinforce its position as the ‘world game’. Locally, we are looking forward to the opening of our ‘Home of Football’ for Northern NSW at Speers Point in the latter half of 2014. The facility will be operational for the International Children’s Games to be conducted in December 2014 and be officially open from February 2015. I trust this document is informative and provides you with a better understanding of the programs and services that are available to players and clubs throughout NNSWF. Regards David Eland Chief Executive Officer

This partnership has allowed us to provide free balls and shin pads to all entry level players and allowed our member zones to stabilise registration fees and pass on cost savings to members. http://www.northernnswfootball.com.au/

SUMMARY OF PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
NNSWF’s High Performance Department is charged with the responsibility of implementing the National Curriculum and working with a range of stakeholders such as Member Zones and Premier Clubs to ensure that there is a steady stream of players and coaches who have the ability to represent the region on the global stage and inspire future generations of participants. The value of the sport’s biggest revenue stream broadcast rights will be significantly influenced by the technical ability of players generated by programs conducted by member federations such as NNSWF. For more information about High Performance programs including the Emerging Jets program please visit: http://www.northernnswfootball.com.au/index.php?id=747 • NNSWF’s High Performance Program is focused on delivering the National Curriculum to identified players in the region. The Newcastle based Emerging Jets Program covers two of the FFA’s identified Training Building Blocks – Skill Acquisition (9-13 years) and Game Training (14-18 years). The titles of the training blocks indicate their core focus, with the players aiming to build individual technical skills with focus on the four core skills – striking the ball, first touch, 1 v 1 and running with the ball in Skill Acquisition. • Once players transition from the Skill Acquisition Phase into the Game Training Phase they will develop tactical awareness, perception and decision-making through a game related approach to training. The main focus during this phase is ball possession – playing out from the back, midfield play and attacking; ball possession opponent – disturbing/pressuring and defending/recapturing the ball; and the transitioning – team and player actions when we lose the ball and when we win the ball. • NNSWF is also focused on providing and improving High Performance opportunities to regional players through a Skill Acquisition Official Centre based from all regional zones. This will enable regional players an opportunity to grow and develop into elite footballers in their local area. Players from the regional SAP Centres will have the opportunity to also attend trials for the major championships and tournaments throughout the year, i.e. National Championships and the Japan Tour.
