LIBRARY HIGHLIGHTS 2012 A total of 34,550 residents, or 58% of the population of our five supporting municipalities (Bradford Woods, Franklin Park, Marshall Township, Town of McCandless and Ross Township) held a Northland Public Library card at the end of 2012. In all, there were 38,295 active library cards at the end of the year, which includes cards issued to residents of our supporting municipalities, county residents who do not live in our supporting municipalities and those cards issued internally. •
A total of 1,057,451 items were circulated in 2012, an average of 28 items per cardholder.

Our current collection numbers 200,252 items, including books, CDs, DVDs, CD-Roms, audio books, magazines and newspapers.

A total of 1,228,771 people came to the library in 2012, an average of 3,757 on each day that the library was open. Northland Library was open a total of 3,258 hours during the year.

Our adult services and children and young adult reference desks handled a total of 61,456 inquiries in 2012, including those made in person, on the phone, and on the Internet.
•
More than 8,228 items were circulated through our Bookmobile service in 2012. The Bookmobile makes stops at the Marshall Elementary School on Fridays and at North Hills Village Shopping Center on Saturdays.

Throughout the year, 1,150 meetings and events were held at the library, including 734 programs hosted by the library. Our tutor room was used over 600 times during the year.

Our Summer Reading Clubs for children, teens and adults attracted almost 1,800 participants.
•
The library, in conjunction with AARP and the Internal Revenue Service, again provided free tax form preparation assistance to senior citizens and low-income residents. More than 500 people took advantage of this service.
•
In December, NOMADs (Northland’s Offsite Modern Alternative Dispenser) were installed and opened for business at the Baierl Family YMCA in Franklin Park and at the Ross Community Center in Ross Township.

Two and one half car loads of food items fit for a Thanksgiving dinner as well as numerous grocery store gift cards and cash were delivered to the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry at the North Hills Community Outreach center in McCandless as part of Northland’s Ten Dinners in Ten Days community give-back food drive challenge.
