TAX PREPARATION ASSISTANCE CONCLUDES APRIL 14

OVERCOME THE FEAR OF PUBLIC SPEAKING

What is the number one thing that humans fear? The National Institute of Mental Health has reported that 75% of people surveyed listed “public speaking” as their number one fear! Why do so many of us dread the dry mouth, elevated blood pressure, shaking voice and nervous sweats that occur when we need to make a presentation? It doesn’t have to be that way. Paul Manfredi, a former Dale Carnegie trainer, can provide you with easy steps to overcome that fear. On Thursday, April 16 at 7 p.m. come to the Library to learn some of the secrets of the greatest speakers in history and find out how to be comfortable speaking to a small or large group. Registration is required.

WISE WALK

Northland Public Library, in cooperation with AARP, is once again offering free tax preparation assistance for senior citizens and low-income residents on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. through April 14. IRS-trained volunteers will help in preparing both federal and state forms. This service is offered on a first-come, first-served basis, and we cannot guarantee that everyone needing help can be accommodated on any given day. Please remember to bring all necessary paperwork to complete the forms. A signup sheet will be located outside of the lower lobby entrance so early arrivals can register and then either wait in their car or return when the library opens.

Walking is one of the best exercises you can do to improve your health, reduce the risk of disease and enhance your mental well-being. The Library offers another 10-week Wise Walk program beginning on Tuesday, April 21, co-sponsored by the Allegheny County Library Association and led by Mary Jean Voigt. Participants will meet at 9:30 a.m. at the library on Tuesday, April 21 to receive information and handouts, and then will go to North Park to walk for 30 to 45 minutes. For the remaining nine weeks, the group will meet each Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Pie Traynor Field to walk together and enjoy the spring weather. Water and snacks will be provided each week. Registration is required.

WHAT ARE YOUR OLD COINS WORTH?

In honor of National Coin Week (April 18 – 25), the North Hills Coin Club will offer our residents the opportunity to bring in their old coins for an informal evaluation and view some fascinating coin collections and exhibits. Members of the Coin Club will be on hand to share their expertise on coins of all kinds, ordinary, rare or unusual, their condition and value. Drop in on Saturday, April 25 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for some coffee and pastries and enjoy some time with our expert coin enthusiasts. Bring some of your coins for evaluation or just browse the outstanding collections that some of the members will display. A member of the Coin Club also has an extensive collection of old postcards, which are sometimes valuable. If you are a postcard collector, bring them along as well. No registration is necessary for this free program.
