MARCH 2015

MIS SION S TAT EMENT: Nor thland L ibrar y enables, encourages and empower s lifelong learning and discover y.

At Your Library

Feature Focus March ushers in spring and many of us are glad it’s finally here! Spring is traditionally linked to renewal, repair and a time to celebrate. We celebrate the promise of a new season with new growth and new adventures, but invariably we find ourselves wanting to revisit the things that have delighted us in the past. An event worthy of revisiting is the Library’s annual Spring Book Sale. For 45 years, we’ve offered to the community a sale that our patrons have consistently supported and enjoyed. Assorted donations to the library create newly found space in attics and game rooms. These donations also create the venue for an army of volunteers who are masters of set-up, sales and tear-down; and let us not overlook the continuance of a welcome source of revenue. Our current large volume of donations suggests that our patrons either combine electronic reading with hard copy editions or continue to prefer exclusively the revered tradition of holding a book and tenderly turning the pages. Please mark your calendars and place your notes on the refrigerator for the upcoming May 1, 2 and 3, 2015 Spring Book Sale. Volunteer recruitment will aggressively begin at the end of March and those selecting their desired shifts will include volunteers who over the years find this event their favorite. We offer flexibility in tasks that you’ll enjoy as you work with old friends, make new acquaintances and share your expertise in steps refined over years of service.

Patrons take advantage of AARP tax services.

Patron Feedback: “Kaylee LOVES Ms. Kim and the CSI club. Thanks to this club she based her birthday party on science last year. Today she completed the last CSI Hermit Crab Level. She is onto 3rd grade at the end of the year. But she was so happy that this meant that she now gets to do ‘Engineering and Science Club.’ Thank you so much to Ms. Kim and Northland Library for creating a program that fosters hopefully future generations of scientists.” – Heather Collins
