Do you have a favorite cozy spot at Northland Public Library? Is there a sunlit corner or a quiet alcove where you go to be inspired? We’re kicking off our Bright Lights, Bright Minds giving campaign by asking you to help us continue to brighten the lives of the tens of thousands of residents and patrons who look to Northland Public Library for education, amusement, outreach and community. Since the inception of the Northland Public Library Foundation 30 years ago, we have funded countless programs, services and additions to the extensive collections of the Library. We have great things planned for the years to come, starting with energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the library’s two floors. Your gift this season can do many things, including actually lighting up the Library! Please make your gift online at www.northlandlibrary.org/foundation or mail a check to us at Northland Public Library Foundation, 300 Cumberland Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237.

THE TEENAGE BRAIN: DANGER AND OPPORTUNITY
Join us on Monday, November 16 at 7 p.m. for a program specifically for parents and leaders of 13-18 year olds. Teenagers are often like a car with a strong accelerator but a weak brake. They have strong impulses, but many of them have poor control of those impulses and that can result in a CRASH! Our cultural environment often promotes high-risk activities like drug and alcohol use and sexual risk behaviors. How can parents help teens to know when to put on the brakes? Joan Wolf Schenker, certified school counselor and community education director for Anchorpoint Counseling Ministry, will present clear guidelines for helping your teens successfully navigate this exciting, but often difficult, stage of adolescence. Anchorpoint was established in 1966 as a non-denominational counseling service for teens and later expanded its services to individuals and families. Registration is required.
