We wanted our wedding to be a reflection of us and our continuing journey together. It was important to us to include aspects about how we met, began to know each other, and parts of our lives that we share and the people who share it with us. We started a ritual, as friends, of getting coffee together every Friday morning, so we knew we needed coffee at our wedding. We knew, as elementary teachers, we both wanted a bright and colorful wedding to match the joy and laughter of an evening with our closest friends. We both very much believe in the “buy local” concept, so we wanted to make sure that our ceremony was as a reflection of that belief - from photographers to food and drink vendors to the DJ and venue itself.

DESCRIBE YOUR WEDDING DAY

The wedding day could not have been any better! We had a lovely, sunny outdoor

wedding that had a light breeze to make it the perfect temperature. Our ceremony included a friend playing live music, a few hymns, a poem, and a tree planting. We were blessed to be married by pastoral friends of ours. Our reception was filled with our favorite things - coffee, cheesecake, laughter, dancing, and conversations. The night ended with guests gathering outside for lawn games and a beautiful sunset.

YOUR ADVICE TO ENGAGED COUPLES

We really enjoyed our wedding day and let other people, such as the photographer, DJ, and day-of-coordinator handle anything that came up. This gave us the ability to fully enjoy our celebration with our closest friends and family. Our advice to engaged couples would be to make sure you do the same - never again will you have this many people who love and care about both of you in one place. Take time to be present with them.

THE BRIDE'S PERSPECTIVE

DESCRIBE YOUR WEDDING VISION

We both envisioned a fall wedding with a modern industrial aesthetic. When we were looking around the South Bend area looking for wedding venues for our reception we knew The Armory was the one. The exposed brick and the distressed wood in the reception and bar area were the perfect definition of modern industrial. We both love the color combination of a navy suit with burgundy bridesmaid dresses with a pop of blush in the flowers to brighten up the outfits. We are both very simple people who just love to be around family and friends so we wanted our reception to highlight not only our love, but being surrounded by everyone we love.

YOUR ADVICE TO ENGAGED COUPLES

Like everyone says, take a moment and realize what is going on around you during your wedding day because it truly goes by in the blink of your eye. It sometimes takes months and years to plan the biggest day of your life, but do not forget the why. You are doing this to marry your best friend.

One thing I have learned through the pandemic was that the wedding vendors get booked

quickly due to all of the postponements. If you have a specific vendor in mind that you want for your wedding, reach out early before they are all booked.

DESCRIBE YOUR WEDDING DAY

The morning of our wedding day was very relaxed. As a bride, I had everything organized to the “T”. For Cody, all he wanted was a relaxed morning while getting ready watching Michigan State vs. Michigan football game (Go Green!). The vendors were all on time and absolutely killed the makeup and hair for everyone prior to the ceremony.

The ceremony and reception went perfect without many hiccups, which are to be expected. We wanted nothing more than Brandi to capture the fun energy that the bridal party had that day, while I, as the bride, wanted the perfect veil shot, which was beyond what I wished for. We are obsessed and amazed at how our wedding pictures look; they are a real dream come true. To end the night, we wanted a huge dance party with all of our family and friends, thanks to 27 Entertainment that was accomplished.

There is something so magical about a winter wedding! The crisp cold air…the smell of pine… the purity of white snow! It just feels like a new beginning is just around the corner, which makes it the perfect time of year to have your big day!

Country Strong is one of the prettiest barn venues in the area and a photographer’s dream to shoot! Stepping on the property and looking at the newly renovated barn, you instantly feel at home. The bridal suite for the bride and her bridesmaids to get ready is incredibly charming.

For this shoot, we wanted to capture the details inside the barn and the various landscapes on the property. With all the evergreen trees surrounding the property, it’s the perfect venue for a winter wedding.

Decor

AAYS Event Rentals did an amazing job at decorating this shoot and fully embracing the winter vibes. Even without snow, we instantly felt like we were walking into a winter wonderland.

The tablescapes that AAYS designed were gorgeous! We loved the white tablecloth and how the emerald green velvet napkins and floral popped!

Candlelit Ceremony

The candlelit ceremony aisle felt charming and timeless. Adding in the faux trees by the arch was a chic and timeless decision!

Floral

Snapdragon Designs outdid themselves with the floral for this Winter Stylized Shoot. We loved how straightforward yet bold their floral combinations are. The flowers they used were roses, lilies, ranunculus, stock, Santini mums, spray roses, snapdragons, evergreens, plumosa and bay leaves. In the centerpieces of the table, they included silver branches to incorporate that winter vibe.

Our model, Ilona Warner, looked like a Hollywood dream in her all-white, off-the-shoulder gown provided by Simply Yours Bridal & Formal Wear! The button detail on the back was an instant win-over.

Hair & Makeup

Salon J did Ilona’s hair and makeup. They stayed true to the Old Hollywood glamour look and created beautiful loose waves that pinned on the side with a stunning hair clip from Simply Yours Bridal. Ilona’s makeup looked fresh with a nude yet slightly smokey eye, perfect cheek blush tint and bold berry lip.

The stationery was created by Banter & Charm. We loved the simple yet glamorous feel it gave to the tablescapes and décor.

WEDDING VISION

Both of us love the Disney love stories and really wanted something like that for our wedding. The venue that had that feel was Meyer’s Castle. After choosing a venue, we wanted the venue’s character to do all the talking. So, for our floral arrangements we wanted baby breath to be the star (low cost, beautiful flower equals a win/win). Then for our color(s) we knew that sage green, cream, and gold were all a good mix of colors to have. Our vision was finally coming all together. We really wanted to express our love story in as a modern-day fairy tale in a castle.

DESCRIBE YOUR WEDDING DAY

It was a mix of lots of emotions. We couldn’t believe that day was finally here. Many people told us to just live in the moment and that’s exactly what we did. There were many aspects of our wedding we loved, but nothing compares to the first time we saw each other at the ceremony. Before the ceremony, we had our “First Touch” because we still wanted that intimate moment just for the both of us. The reception was absolutely breathtaking, it felt like we were in a fairy tale storybook. There

was lots of greenery, lights, and did I mention peacocks! Family and friends are something we cherish near to our hearts, so seeing everyone have smiles on their faces and dancing the night away meant so much to us. Overall, it was one Hill of a wedding!

ADVICE TO ENGAGED COUPLES

Jesenia, the bride, was tested positive for BRCA 1 gene. She decided to go ahead with the preventative breast cancer surgeries, which meant she couldn’t use her arms properly for 2 months. Before all this, she was very independent and would never let anyone do anything for her. But after this situation, she knew it was okay to lean on Colton, the groom. He brushed her hair, helped her in and out of bed, and most importantly he always reminded her that she is beautiful even after all her scars. With that being said, the couple’s advice is: Give yourself permission to lean on each other. Yes, you must take care of yourself, but remember you aren’t going through life alone. You have a shoulder to lean on when things don’t go as planned. Let your spouse take care of you. You two are a team in this crazy thing people call life.

We knew Jess and Jordan’s wedding was special from the start! Having an invite list of over 500, we knew it was going to be all hands on deck. Jordan is the son of Burns’ owners, so Jess 100% trusted our team to design and execute all elements of the day! We were thrilled with and excited for the challenge to surprise them with a one-of-a-kind wedding. They gave us the beautiful fall tone color scheme, and we ran with the design.

Jess also wanted a romantic, candlelight vibe so we incorporated twinkle lights over some of the guest tables, lots of candlelight in the centerpieces, and even a 50’ light tunnel walkway guests would remember as they left. From the custom-built ceremony backdrop, life-size seating charts, and pampas grass floral installation over the dance floor, we wanted Jess and Jordan to be blown away!

WEDDING VISION

Our wedding vision was a boho rustic look. We wanted to have a relaxed atmosphere in the middle of the country. Getting married in a barn was perfect for our vision and the pictures we wanted to have of our wedding day. We specifically wanted to make sure we had the sunset and gorgeous trees in the background of our photos, and Whispering Oaks was the ideal location for that to happen.

DESCRIBE YOUR WEDDING DAY

Like every bride says, our wedding day went by so quickly, but it also was perfect! Everything may of not went how I thought it would, but in the end it was a special day. I learned you can't focus on what may not be going right, but just live in the moment because the day goes by too fast. The weather was perfect, which made for perfect pictures and a day we will always remember.

ADVICE TO ENGAGED COUPLES

My advice I would give to an engaged couple is to try to just enjoy the planning process. You have to remember the reason why you two are getting married and not stress over all the small details. It goes by too quick, so enjoy the planning process together so you can look back and have happy memories of the wedding planning.

CLP Events created the most beautiful tablescape with vintage Versace charges, plates and stemware. The red, green and gold color scheme really popped!

Kristina Lynn Floral created the beautiful centerpieces for the tablescape and even incorporated some vineyard grapes. She used red roses, blue delphinium, blue thistle, yellow yarrow, shocking blue hydrangea, yellow spray roses, yellow stock and silver dollar eucalyptus.

For the bride’s bouquet, Kristina Lynn Floral designed a classic neutral tone bouquet that included white Mondial roses, white phalaenopsis orchids, blur thistle and silver dollar eucalyptus.

Our wedding vision was simple yet elegant, including natural earth tone colors with touches of sunflowers and gold. Our main goal was to make our wedding personal, yet simple in design. Once we were engaged, we sat down and brainstormed words that we felt would encompass our day - those words included simple, elegant, bright, excitement, love and nonstop fun. Thankfully, we picked the BEST vendors to make our vision come alive!

DESCRIBE YOUR WEDDING DAY

Our day was truly magical. We are still trying to put into words what the day meant to us. Weddings are such a beautiful and unique event in which ALL your people gather in one church and one reception hall to celebrate your love. Our wedding day was filled with an abundance of love and pure joy, surrounded by our favorite people. The ceremony was meaningful and personable. We then spent

time at the local bar prior to the reception, where we had one on one time with our friends and family. Once the reception began, it was a nonstop party! The day could not have been more perfect - once again our vendors are rock stars and made our vision and love shine!

YOUR ADVICE TO ENGAGED COUPLES

It is a total cliché, but enjoy every moment because whether you have a long or short engagement, the time flies! The best advice a friend of ours gave was to keep the goal in focus at all times. The goal being at the end of the wedding planning process you get to marry the love of your life and none of the small or even big details matter as long as you marry your person! For example- it doesn’t matter what color the napkins are or what beer is on draft…it is all about you and your future spouse! This is just the beginning of a beautiful life together.
