Legal team raises cash for charities

Members of an intrepid team of adventurers from a North Wales law firm are limbering up

for a gruelling charity fundraiser – taking on the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge. Lawyers from Lanyon Bowdler, including a number from the team based in Conwy, will start at 4am on Saturday, 16th July, and by the time the challenge is complete, hopefully less than 24 hours later, the team will have covered a total walking distance of 27.4km and ascended a total of 2,334 metres. The three climbs take in Pen y Fan, Cadair Idris and Snowdon, and the hikers are taking part to raise funds for two charities – ELY Memorial Fund and Crest. “It’s a daunting prospect and some of the team are starting to wonder about what possessed them to volunteer, but they are also excited about the challenge and looking forward to raising as much money as possible for our two chosen charities,” said Edward Nutting, who leads Lanyon Bowdler’s North Wales office. “The two charities

we are supporting, including Crest in North Wales are very special to us and we hope people will get behind our team by donating much-needed funds to both of these extremely worthy causes.” Crest is based in North Wales and was set up to establish a community co-operative, helping disabled and unemployed people increase their skills and gain employment – either within the co-operative or to move on to sustainable employment within the community. Colwyn Bay clinic offers relief to the women of North Wales

Aspire North Wales Clinic is has introduced the BTL EMSELLA Chair for Stress Urinary Incontinence and Female Health treatments to its clients. Featured across the UK and international media, and notably at Dr Leah’s London Clinic, EMsella is revolutionising the way incontinence is treated – and even helps with your sex life! Aspire North Wales Clinic is the first location

in Wales to offer the BTL EMSELLA treatment to help women of any age who desire a non-invasive solution for urinary incontinence and improvement in their quality of life. EMSELLA is a non-invasive, comfortable and FDA cleared treatment to strengthen the pelvic floor and greatly

improve the inconvenience and embarrassment caused by unwanted urinary leakage. If you leak urine when you cough, sneeze or engage in sports activities, need to go to the bathroom often or have recently refrained from intimate contact for fear of accidental leakage then you are probably suffering from urinary incontinence. BTL EMSELLA is the first device of its kind and is FDA-cleared

for treating urinary incontinence in women. BTL EMSELLA uses electromagnetic energy to cause deep pelvic floor

muscle stimulation without getting undressed! A single BTL EMSELLA session brings thousands of Kegel-like contractions which help you train your muscles without any effort. Scientific research shows that 95% of treated

patients have reported significant improvement in their

quality of life. In addition, BTL EMSELLA is a non-invasive procedure with no recovery time, and patients remain fully clothed during the comfortable 28-minute treatment. Many patients observe improvement after a single session, and results will typically continue improving over the next few weeks. Aspire recommends a total of six sessions, scheduled twice per week, in order to restore bladder and pelvic muscle control without time-consuming exercises.

Brewery to host performing arts

Despite its location in an industrial estate between Colwyn Bay and Mochdre, Snowdon Craft Beer has a refreshed focus on what it means to be a brewery and a local business in North Wales. “It’s early days but, hopefully, now that COVID and the lockdowns are behind us, we can start to build something really interesting here in Mochdre,” says director Jonathan Hughes. The site, previously part of the closed Quinton Hazel car parts factory, is an ordinary 1960’s industrial complex, complete with stereotypical sawtooth roof, and doesn’t instantly shout out innovation but, as well as brewing, Snowdon Craft Beer are keen to use a part of their space to develop an arts centre. “This isn’t about profit,” stresses Jonathan. “I’m involved with a

number of grassroots performing arts groups in the area and the costs of theatrical spaces is a major problem. In a time where everyone is having to rein in their spending we need to look at other cost effective ways of promoting the arts and make it accessible to people.” Over the coming months Jonathan will be working with others involved with local theatre groups to see what is possible. But it is hoped that over the next year, this small corner of a nondescript old factory can become an interesting addition to the local community. Watch this space…

Abbeyfield Colwyn Bay Society

The month of June saw the country celebrating the Queens Platinum Jubilee. A reign of 70 years; most of the Abbeyfield residents retired at 60 and here is our Queen

still working 36 years later. Not many people can claim that accolade. The Abbeyfield Society held a Jubilee

party at the Alexandra Road House for the residents of all three Houses. The residents enjoyed a fabulous buffet lunch which was an opportunity to get together with fellow residents whom they do not see very often, followed by a raffle for some lovely Jubilee themed gifts.

This was followed by live entertainment with Steve Darren which has everyone singing along to songs both old and new. To finish the staff provided a finger

buffet with jam and cream scones and a Union Jack butty box for the residents to take home their treats. Conwy Council rewarded Abbeyfield with a contribution

towards the cost of the Jubilee party which the Society were very grateful for.
