Honda Motor Europe will star in the 100th Giro d'Italia as official sponsor and supplier of cars and motorcycles. The Giro d'Italia is one of the most important sporting events in the world, reaching a vast audience of athletes and fans. Honda's sponsorship of the Giro d'Italia will be supported by a substantial TV, press and internet campaign, which will transcend national boundaries and take the form of around 5,500 hours of programming, with an estimated audience of 192 million TV viewers and 16 million social media users. The Corsa Rosa's roads will host over 130 cars, including the new Civic. The Civic hatchback boasts a sporty feel, in keeping with the spirit of the event, and exhilarating performance thanks to the new 1.0 and 1.5 VTEC Turbo engines. The HR-V will also be involved, sporting a typical coupé design and the versatility of an SUV, whilst the CR-V will thrive on the race course in its role as VIP Car, allowing guests to experience the excitement of the race first hand. As well as the CIVIC, HR-V and CR-V models, the Civic Tourers will also play their part, escorting the athletes across the peninsula over the Giro d'Italia's 3,615-km route to the grand finale in Milan on 28 May. Elegance, excellent performance and innovative technology are what set Honda cars apart. NEW PEUGEOT 308
Starting with the front end, the 308 has been fitted with the latest version of Peugeots trademark grille, slightly more upright with chrome features to break up the black centre portion. The new grille sits just above a newly reprofiled front bumper, whilst the head and tail lights have been upgraded to give the 308 a new lighting signature. These front end style updates align the 308 more cloesly with the likes of the new 3008 & 5008SUV's. Underneath the stylishly redesigned front end, efficiency updates to the 1.2 litre threecylinder petrol engine include the utilisation of a new passive-regeneration particulate filter. The use of particulate filters in petrol-powered cars is still fairly uncommon, but expect this technology to spread into the mainstream over the next few years - especially with increasing public awareness of vehicle emissions. An all-new 128bhp 1.6-litre diesel will also be rolled out, with a patented combustion chamber design that has been developed from Peugeot’s Le Mans racing cars of a few years ago. Changes to the more powerful 2.0-litre unit in the GT model are limited to a new Aisin 8-speed automatic gearbox.
FRESH FACED WITH NEW ENGINES FOR 2017
Having now been on sale for four years in its current form, Peugeot have now decided to give the 308 its mid-life facelift, whilst adding some fresh engines to the line up for a new lease of life.

Inside the refreshed new car, Peugeot have added an upgraded infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Phone mirroring as standard. We havent yet seen images of the new interior or rear of the car as of yet but it's suspected that the trim updates will have been inspired by the award winning 3008. These changes will be available across the range, that includes the beastly 266bhp GTi, from September - stay tuned for more info on the new model.

WINNING
ALL-NEW NIRO WINS BEST HYBRID IN 2017 DIESEL CAR AWARDS • All-new Kia Niro tops the hybrid category in the joint Diesel Car and Eco Car 2017 awards • Sportage claims third position out of the top 50 highly rated vehicles available in the UK • cee’d is rated at number 40 • Kia models impressed judges with their practicality, style, economy and value for money
Kia has received yet more recognition and won a tightly contested award in this years’ Diesel Car and Eco Car Awards, with the all-new Kia Niro hybrid crossover winning best hybrid vehicle and the Kia cee’d and Sportage models coming well within the top 50 cars available in the UK, concluded by the panel of judges of Diesel Car and Eco Car. The all-new Niro was launched in August 2016 and presents customers with the high efficiency and low running costs of a petrol-electric car with the style, practicality and desirability of a compact crossover. The judges awarded the model with an overall place of 38 and were impressed by the vehicle’s efficiency and customer-friendly styling and practicality. Ian Robertson, Editor and Publisher of Diesel Car and Eco Car commented, “Some hybrids have often come under fire

for being awkwardly styled, but not so the Kia Niro, which embraces the booming crossover trend, but still offers wallet-friendly running costs. Looking just as stylish as the Sportage SUV, the Niro can return over 70mpg and offer all the space a family should need. It might be high-tech, but its comprehensive seven-year warranty will reassure owners that this family-sized Kia is built to last.” Last years’ car of the year for Diesel Car, the Kia Sportage, came in at a very respectable number three overall in the 2017 awards. The vehicle has created huge success for the Kia brand in the UK in the past year and a half, with 2016 sales exceeding 40,000 alone. “Last year’s winner can hold its head high, smashing sales targets for Kia and still being one of the best medium SUVs money can buy. The latest Sportage is the biggest yet, with plenty of space for five people and their luggage. On the road, the 1.7- and 2.0-litre diesel engines are refined, easy to drive and free from body roll in the corners, making it a relaxing place for passengers. That awesome seven-year warranty and an impressive list of standard kit makes the
Sportage an even more compelling buy.” Said Ian Robertson, Editor and Publisher of Diesel Car and Eco Car. Finally, it was the cee’d which also received highly positive recognition from the judges, the model which is now five years old in its current version, came well into the top 50 taking the 40 spot. It impressed judges with its sharp and handsome looks, generous equipment levels, good road manners, economy and that it’s managed to stay competitive even in 2017. This award win and recognition for Kia in the UK comes at a very successful time for the brand and further bolsters that success. Every month of 2017 has been a new sales record for the business and with an increasing product line upcoming later this year, Kia’s new and existing customers are going to be well catered for.

SKODA KAROQ
What's new on the Skoda Karoq?
T
he arrival of the new Skoda Karoq as a replacement for the Yeti is timely. It shares its underpinnings with that aforementioned VW Group trio, which has allowed Skoda to use the latest engines and technology. However, almost every trace of the Yeti has been abandoned in favour of a shape which is very much in keeping with the bigger Skoda Kodiaq – our reigning Large SUV of the Year. While the Karoq is smaller than the Kodiaq, it's longer than the Yeti and gets more space between its front and rear axles, which translates into more room inside. With the rear seats in place, the Karoq offers more carrying space than both the Ateca and Qashqai. As a bonus, the Karoq's three rear seats can be folded down, individually adjusted or removed altogether, meaning you can turn it into a van if you need more space.
What engines is the Skoda Karoq available with?
Five engines are available from launch, split into two petrols and three diesels, with four of those engines being new to Skoda. Kicking off the range is a turbocharged three-cylinder 1.0-litre petrol with 113bhp, followed by a 1.5-litre petrol with 148bhp. The more powerful petrol is likely to be a big seller in this country, especially among drivers who spend most of their time in the city. Plus, with CO2 emissions of 119g/km and official fuel economy of 55.4mpg running costs should be very reasonable Buyers looking for a diesel option have 1.6 and 2.0-litre choices, with the most efficient – the mid-range
148bhp 2.0-litre – emitting 115g/km of CO2. Gearbox choices include a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic. And some versions of the Karoq can be had with four-wheel drive, giving you added traction on and off-road.
What equipment can I get on the Skoda Karoq?
For the first time, digitl technology is available in a Skoda. It's coupled with a seperate 6.5in infotainment screen which comes as standard and offers two USB ports, a DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity. There are three system upgrades systems available, too. The Bolero set-up gets you a larger 8.0in touchscreen, while the Amundsen brings satellite navigation and a Wi-Fi hotspot. At the top of the range, the Columbus system features a 9.2in touchscree,n including a DVD/ CD player, a 64GB internal memory and its own internet connection. As with the latest Volkswagen Golf, the Karoq's system can also be controlled using gestures – but our experience of this suggests it's not particularly effective. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirrorlink connectivity are also included through Skoda's SmartLink+ platform. In addition, drivers can choose between four different driving modes, dubbed Normal, Eco, Sport and Individual, which alter the steering and gearbox settings. Four-wheel drive versions also get an off-road mode. Other features include a tailgate which can be operated either via a button inside the car, or by waving your foot under the rear bumper, and 10
an electrically deployable tow bar. While Skoda hasn't said which assistance systems will be standar we do know that adaptive cruise c spot detection, lane keeping assist emergency braking with pedestrian sign recognition and a driver fatigu available.

NISSAN LEAF AT-EV
THE FIRST ELECTRIC VEHICLE TO ENTER THE MONGOL RALLY

been removed, eliminating about 71 pounds of weight and providing crucial cargo room. In the back, the team has included a fire extinguisher and first aid kit, which we hope they won't need. Luckily the Mongol Rally not being a timed race means that the team won't be at a disadvantage when they need to recharge. Plug In Adventures founder Chris Ramsey says the Leaf is a good choice for the event. "I'm very familiar with the car, it's always been reliable and dependable for me, and it has the largest network of rapid charging options in Europe," he says. "As it will also accept a 240v Commando connection even in the remote areas when my fast-charge options are gone, I can still charge the battery and keep moving." Presumably this charging is done from a support vehicle with a generator. There could even be an onboard generator, perhaps where the
modified Nissan leaf will be the first ever electric vehicle to tackle the gruelling 10,000-mile Mongol Rally, an epic drive from the UK to mongolia this summer. The car has been prepped by Plug In Adventures and engineering company RML group, named the Leaf AT-EV (All-terrain Electric Vehicle) it will be tasked with battling deserts, mountains and whatever else Europe and Asia can throw at it in this epic charity race. The Leaf AT-EV rides on Speedline SL2 Marmora wheels and Maxsport RB3 narrow tires. The team has affixed plates underneath the vehicle, and installed braided brake lines and a set of mud flaps. The roof rack sports a 16-light LED array. While the front of the passenger compartment remains unchanged except for the addition of rubber floor mats, the rear seats have 12

backseat was. But the team omitted mention of where the charge is coming from. Ramsey plans to take the opportunity to spread the good word about EVs along the journey. "I can't wait to get out on the road and introduce more people to the advantages of electric vehicles, whatever country they're from!"
Nissan Pricing updates
As a result of key competitors in the market place increasing prices as much as 2.8%, Nissan will be repositioning their prices on several Nissan models effective from 1st June 2017 The models that the repricing will impact are: Pulsar, GT-R, LCV (excluding NV300), Juke & Navara. These pricing increases will not affect the all-new Micra, Qashqai or X-Trail. Please contact our Corporate Team For more information.

I DIESEL
rental customers ‘still prefer diesel’
D
iesel remains the fuel of choice for almost two thirds (63%) of car hire customers, analysis by Europcar UK suggests. New data, based on customers of its Model Guaranteed service, shows two thirds of motorists (63%) would prefer diesel when hiring a car. Gary Smith, managing director of Europcar UK Group, says the continuing appetite for diesel, despite recent Government and media focus on this fuel, is interesting. “It appears that UK motorists are wise to the fact that the newest diesels – Euro 6 - which make up all of the Europcar 14
UK fleet are widely regarded as delivering great fuel economy as well as reducing CO2 emissions,” claimed Smith. The Government’s recently published draft proposals for improving air quality across the UK recommend that new Euro 6 diese will not face penalty charges. The survey also revealed that four out of five (78%) respondents said they would not want to hire an electric vehicle. Smith said: “We ar working hard to overcome motoris range anxiety about electric vehicles.”
