All-New Mazda MX-5 RF
Named Roadster Of The Year At The 2017 Auto Express New Car Awards
The all-new Mazda MX-5 RF has been named Roadster of the Year by Auto Express in their annual awards. With the MX-5 convertible having taken the title for the last two years, the current generation of MX-5 has claimed this coveted title at the Auto Express New Car Awards for the third year in succession.
current generation of MX-5 is offered with an automatic gearbox for the first time in the UK. Developed to deliver enhanced cabin comfort and a refined ride, while at the same time maintaining the agility, performance and driver engagement of the MX-5 convertible, the suspension and electric power steering parameters of the allnew Mazda MX-5 RF have been specifically tuned for the Retractable Fastback. The MX-5 RF’s retractable hardtop consists of front, middle and rear roof sections, and a rear screen. When the top is lowered the front and middle portions are stowed together, while the rear glass sits behind the seats, leaving the rear roof section in place to create a unique open-topped look, and a cabin feeling that combines a sense of open air freedom with the impression of being securely ensconced within the car. Collecting the Auto Express award, Mazda Motors UK Sales Director, Peter Allibon said, “We’re thrilled that Auto Express has named the all-new Mazda MX-5 RF Roadster of the Year. The MX-5 is the definitive example of how our SKYACTIV technology and KODO design philosophy help us create stylish, spirited and great to drive cars; and with the launch of the Retractable Fastback we’ve added a unique and stylish model to our range that stands distinct from the MX-5 convertible, yet retains all the award-winning driver appeal our sports car is famed for”
Commenting on the MX-5 RF’s success, Auto Express Chief Reviewer, Sean Carson said, “The MX-5 RF broadens the iconic roadster’s appeal, offering buyers even more choice. With the same great line-up of responsive 1.5 and 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engines and a beautifully involving six-speed manual gearbox, it’s a joy to drive. Plus, the flying buttresses behind the folding metal hard-top deliver supercar-like styling that ensures the RF has the style to match the thrills on offer from the communicative rear-wheel drive chassis. A classy cabin, plus the versatility and refinement from the new roof, round off a convincing package that offers usability and performance at an affordable price.” Designed to offer a new dimension of opentop driving fun, while at the same time staying true to the underlying principle of the previous generation MX-5 retractable hardtop, the all-new Mazda MX-5 RF’s ‘fastback’ styling gives it a unique appearance roof up or down, broadening the appeal of the world’s best-selling two-seater sports car. As with the established Mazda MX-5 convertible, all models powered by the 2.0-litre 160ps engine feature a limited slip differential and 17-inch wheels; while Sport Nav models feature Bilstein dampers and strut brace to further enhance their dynamic set up. Plus, with the introduction of the £27,095 Sport Nav Auto, the

dealers is absolutely essential to us and sharing our success is at the heart of everything we do.” Kia has also recorded its best-ever first half sales performance – passing the 50,000 mark despite stiff market conditions during the last three months. This is the first time Kia has hit the milestone having first started trading in the UK in 1991. During that year, Kia sold just under 1,800 cars, a figure that it now sells on average every week across its 188 strong dealer network – with GWR Kia contributing towards this. Kia has targeted a full-year sales number of 92,000 with a longer-term goal of 100,000 sales a year before the end of the decade. Paul Philpott said; “We’re thrilled to have been able to break such a milestone within the UK, and this is testament to our growing brand presence, and strength of our design. Our total sales in the UK now number 861,143 with sales expecting to reach the one million mark by 2020. The news follows wider industry expectations of slower sales during Q2 2017, as buyers opt for used models over new cars because of the costs associated with changed tax rules.
Kia Motors (UK) Limited has captured Car Dealer magazine’s prestigious Car Dealer Power Award as Manufacturer of the Year for the second year in succession. Presenting the Award, James Baggott, Managing Director of Car Dealer said: “Kia is a brand that is seemingly unstoppable in its progress with well-designed and reliable cars all delivered with a seven year warranty. “With great cars in the line-up and a dealer network that is clearly a thriving and happy one it is no surprise that Kia has successfully defended its title of top dog from last year!” he added. Paul Philpott, President and Chief Executive of Kia Motors (UK) Limited commented: “This is a very special award for us to win because it is voted for by dealers across all the brands from right round the country. Henry Williams, Škoda head of fleet, said: “We have added petrol engines to the Škoda fleet range due to increasing demand from customers. "Octavia and Superb already offer a formidable package and by adding even more choice we are demonstrating our commitment to respond to the changing market and the needs of our customers.” SE Tech trim level includes eight-inch touchscreen navigation system as standard and the inclusion of SmartLink+ which links to both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a Maxi-Dot Trip computer system.
Increased demand for petrol engines from business customers has led to Škoda UK launching new variants of the Octavia and Superb in fleet-specific SE Tech trim levels. Juke pogo jump world record
To mark the launch of the new model - and to celebrate the fact that there are now over half a million safety cameras on the road, courtesy of over 133,000 Jukes fitted with Nissan's Intelligent Around View Monitor system - Nissan has developed the world's first 360-degree dashcam. The JukeCam uses two different mounts, so it can either be used as a dashcam, or it can be removed and used as an action camera. The device features 4k picture quality and can record up to 3 hours of footage on its internal memory. And to demonstrate the camera's
versatility, Nissan joined forces with extreme pogo team Xpogo to set a new Guinness World Record. Xpogo used the JukeCam to record the stunt, which saw pogoer Dalton Smith jump over three Jukes in a row to set a record for jumping over the most consecutive cars on a pogo stick. See the video here: At the moment, JukeCam is just a technology concept, but if enough interest is generated, then Nissan could add it to the Juke's kit list, probably in time for the next generation Juke, which is due to be revealed later in 2017.
