Honda reach 100 million!
Honda have officially reached the 100 million-unit milestone in cumulative global automobile production.
Honda began automobile production in 1963 with the production of the T360 mini-truck and the S500 sports car. A year later Honda employed all of the company’s production technologies and know-how and constructed the first Honda plant dedicated to automobile production in Sayama City, Saitama Prefecture. The new plant began production of a further model, the iconic S600 roadster. Since that time, Honda has increased its annual production volume, enhancing its line up and exporting the brand to an ever wider range of countries. Honda’s current line-up in the UK focuses on global models such as the Jazz small hatchback and Civic family hatchback and estate. These cars are supplemented by the HR-V and CR-V SUVs, both global best-sellers in their respective segments along with the latest incarnation of Honda’s supercar, the NSX. In 2016, Honda has 34 automobile production facilities on five continents. 2

Takahiro Hachigo, President and CEO of Honda Motor, commented, “Thanks to the support from our customers around the world, Honda was able to deliver 100 million automobiles. The passion of our company founder who wanted to help people in their daily lives and pursue the joy of driving has been inherited by Honda associates as the original starting point of Honda automobile manufacturing. Striving to meet the next 100 million customers, Honda will continue delivering increasingly attractive products.” HERE FOR MORE CLICK INFORMATION 3

fter the first images of Skoda's facelifted Octavia were revealed late last year, the full details of the model’s 2017 changes have been announced. On sale in February, the model made its first public debut at an event in Vienna in January. The latest Skoda family look pioneered by the Skoda Kodiaq has clearly been implemented on the Octavia’s new exterior. The car has revised ‘split’ headlights and a neater lower bumper section with crisp horizontal lines designed to emphasise the car’s width. The UK engine line-up will extend to a pair of petrol units and two diesels. The petrols are that 1.0-litre turbo with 114bhp and a 1.4-litre turbo producing 148bhp, while the diesels are a 1.6 and a 2.0 offering the same respective power figures. The Scout and vRS editions of the car get their own more powerful motors (however, both models are not due until next year). The interior itself brings a major overhaul to the Octavia’s infotainment system - again influenced by the technology that’s being introduced on the Kodiaq. All of the systems offered - Swing and Balero, and the navigation-equipped Amundsen and Columbus - get capacitive touchscreens. The range-topping Columbus’s display is now 9.2 inches, the largest screen ever seen in an Octavia; it offers a wireless hotspot and can be ordered with a SIM card module to share high-speed broadband across
the car’s occupants. Later in 2017, the car is also expected to get the ‘Virtual Cockpit’ digital instrument panel that we’ve seen on the VW Passat and various Audis. Features added to the Octavia line-up - and likely to be spread across the range as a mix of standard-fit and optional items include a customised key that can store multiple driver preferences, a heated steering wheel, folding tables in the backs of the front seats and, in the estate, a removable torch in the boot. There are also new assistance systems, including a trailer assistant that will take over the steering when the car is reversing slowly while towing, and upgrades to the Octavia’s parking systems so they can now warn of oncoming traffic when reversing out of a space. The Octavia’s load bay - another of the car’s key selling points remains pretty much unchanged. The hatchback offers 590 litres of space with the rear seats in place, although this can be extended to 1,580 litres by folding them down. The estate’s default capacity is 610 litres, rising to 1,740 litres; this car can also now have an electric powered tailgate as an option. The new Octavia will be available to order in UK dealers from 1 February 2017, with deliveries starting a month later. Prices are expected to stay broadly in line with the existing car’s, so an entry-level edition of the hatchback is likely to cost from around £17,000.

New Peugeot 3008 scores victory in the 2017 Dakar Rally
P
eugeot has emerged as the dominant force to be reckoned with in the Dakar Rally as the French team not only took overall victory in the famously gruelling event, but locked out the final podium with a 1-2-3 finish. The landmark one-two-three result takes Peugeot’s score on the famous crosscountry rally to six outright victories and is ideally timed to coincide with the launch of the all-new Peugeot 3008 SUV’s career across the world. The Peugeot 3008 DKR successfully took over the baton from last year’s winning car – the Peugeot 2008DKR – to make an immediate mark on the world’s toughest cross-country rally. The two-wheel drive car warded of its all-wheel drive opposition to
reveal the value of the technical configuration chosen by Team Peugeot Total. In spite of unfavourable changes to the regulations (bigger air restrictor), work on the car’s engine and suspension in recent months paid big dividends. At the same time, the switch to a body shape derived from that of the Peugeot 3008 SUV permitted an aerodynamic package which favoured high top speeds. Team Peugeot Total’s one-two-three finish on the 2017 event is the latest in a long list of Dakar Rally successes for the brand. It is Peugeot’s sixth overall victory and its second podium lockout from seven participations. Despite a hard-fought campaign by nine-time World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb, it was ultimately his teammate Stephane “Mr. Dakar” Peterhansel who took top honours for the second year in a row. That makes thirteen Dakar wins for Peterhansel, who has won the event seven times in the cars category

and six more on bikes to make him the most victorious driver in the history of the landmark rally. After winning the final stage, Loeb emerged second in the cars category – 5 minutes and 13 seconds behind his teammate – with Cyril Despres finishing third (33 minutes off the lead). All three were driving the new Peugeot 3008 DKR launched specifically for this year's rally – just as the French automaker gears up to launch the production version.
