ALL-NEW PEUGEOT 5008 SUV
COMING SOON
The all-new Peugeot 5008 will challenge established sevenseater players in the hard-fought SUV class. Sharing architecture with its smaller Peugeot 3008 sister model, the 5008 introduces advanced technology such as Peugeot’s ‘i-Cockpit’ virtual dashboard, which replaces conventional gauges with a display that can be configured to show the information you want.
New Peugeot 5008 design
The Peugeot 3008 and 5008 were both initially revealed at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, with the 3008
going on sale towards the end of 2016. The two cars have striking visual similarities and the 5008 is based on a stretched version of the 3008 platform. This means a longer wheelbase (the distance between the front and rear axles), boosting interior space and allowing that all-important third row of seats. Inside, the driver’s environment is unique with the new generation PEUGEOT i-Cockpit®, which offers occupants a futuristic driving experience that both surprises and delights. While the new system is similar, the analogue dials have been fully replaced by a 12.3-inch digital screen, which can be individually configured and displays information like your speed, fuel level and range to empty, as well as navigation prompts. A second screen sits on top of the dashboard nad provides

touchscreen infotainment, including climate control, media and sat nav reducing the number of buttons needed.
Practicality
Peugeot says the long wheelbase of the 5008 will make it one of the most practical SUVs in its class. As well as seven seats, the second row consists of three separate chairs that can adjust and fold individually or accommodate a child seat. When you don’t need the third-row seats, they stow flat in the boot floor. There’s also an impressive 780 litres of luggage space with five seats in place, which increases to 1,125 litres with all rear seats folded or a huge 1.940 litres up to the roof.
Technology & equipment
• 8” touchscreen infotainment system • Voice control • Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink • Peugeot ‘Grip control’ • Hill-descent control • Autonomous emergency braking (AEB) • Lane-keeping Assistance
Coming Soon
The 5008 is expected to build on the success of the strong-selling 3008 and is set to arrive in late spring or early summer this year. 7

ALL-NEW NISSAN MICRA:

THE ‘MADE TO MEASURE’ SUPERMINI • Employee measurements collected to create a 200-person ‘all shapes and sizes’ testing team • Simple yet innovative approach to ergonomic design has resulted in class-leading front seat space • Advanced technology linked to ergonomics boosts safety credentials Europeans are getting taller, with the Netherlands and the Scandinavian countries now officially among the biggest in the world. According to the 2016 European Science Open Forum, the average Dutch man today is 182.5 cm – exactly six feet tall. But not everyone is so ‘elevated’, as an average woman from Greece is only 160cm. Because of this diversity, Nissan engineers proposed a challenge for themselves when developing the new Micra. Not only did they have to create a vehicle interior that would provide outstanding comfort for drivers and passengers of all heights, but do it in a supermini with an exterior length of only 3,999mm. The team at Nissan’s European Technical Centre (NTCE) – at Cranfield, UK – was clearly up to the challenge. The new Micra has class-leading interior space for front seat occupants, due in part to an innovative ‘made to measure’ approach. Lee Griggs, Senior Engineer for Human Engineering, NTCE, explained: “It’s a very simple idea. We select NTCE colleagues of various sizes and take 40 different measurements from each of them, recording everything from height and sitting eye position to arm and leg length.” Lee added: “It means we always
have at least 200 real people we can call on at short notice to validate our latest ideas or changes. Of course, we have internal standards to work to, but real-world human feedback is every bit as vital.” With the tallest NTCE employee being 200 cm (6 ft 7 ins) and the smallest being 152 cm (4 ft 11 ins), it’s a wide-ranging line-up that proved useful in creating the Micra’s spacious interior. Those drivers would also be looking for excellent design and use of quality materials in the cabin. So while Lee’s team was carefully considering different spinal shapes and limb lengths, Nissan designers were working to create a genuinely uplifting interior. The result is a stunning ‘gliding wing’ dashboard shape with a touch-screen infotainment system standard on all but the entry level grade. Two-tone soft-touch dashboard materials are standard across the range, while striking cabin personalisation options are also available. The Micra’s ergonomic interior has also boosted its safety credentials. For example, by using the latest High 8

Definition cameras and eye-tracking technology during development, NTCE engineers were able to understand exactly which areas of the dashboard and instruments drivers were looking at, and for how long. During the vehicle’s development this data helped to finalise the vehicle’s overall interior design. Benchmarking against rival vehicles means Nissan believes the new Micra has the lowest ‘eyes off the road’ time in the B-segment. Coupled with the latest advanced safety technologies, the new Micra is one of the safest small cars on the road. Systems available on the car include Intelligent Lane Intervention, which subtly guides the car back to the centre of a lane, and Intelligent Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection. The all-new Micra will be unveiled at our Norton Way showroom in early April. 9

MAZDA CX-5 BEST LARGE SUV FOR UNDER £25K
A
Mazda's Skyactiv efficiency technology has given the CX-5 some of the lowest CO2 emissions and highest fuel economy figures in the class, beating those of rivals such as the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. However, the CX-5 also has the space to rival them, because its interior is large and the boot a generous size. It handles exceptionally well for a large SUV, too, while the amount of standard equipment you get is plentiful considering the car’s relatively low price. What Car? Editor Steve Huntingford commented that, “the Mazda CX-5 retains its crown because what you get here for your hardearned cash is impressive. We’re not just talking
head of the debut of the all-new Mazda CX-5 later this year, the current Mazda CX-5 has once again demonstrated its enduring appeal with both buyers and the media by taking top honours in What Car’s Best Buy for less than £25,000 Large SUV category. Large SUVs such as the Mazda CX-5 are normally associated with high driving positions and off-road ability, not high MPG and low CO2. Mazda's intention with the CX-5 was to change all that.

about the generous standard equipment though, there’s space and practicality, too. With a decentsized boot and useful 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats, the CX-5 can deal with all that family life can throw at it. The Mazda CX-5 is also one of the best handling large SUVs, while its lively engine impresses with enough performance to haul you along fully loaded. Finally, relatively cheap finance deals and competitive running costs keep it affordable.”

RAPID AND RAPID SPACEBACK new look and new engine
S
koda Rapid hatchback and Spaceback models have got some light design tweaks, a new 1.0-litre TSI engine and new technology for 2017. Following in the footsteps of the recently updated Citigo, the Skoda Rapid has received a mild facelift, gaining a refreshed look, new technology and a new engine option. The updates apply to the Rapid Spaceback model also. The design changes have been kept to a minimum as a slightly altered front apron gets new fog lamps and is joined by a new chrome strip connecting the headlights, Black tinted taillights now feature, alongside a handful of new alloy wheel designs in sizes of 15, 16 and 17-inches. Smart bi-xenon headlamps and daytime running LED lights, which can detect lighting conditions and dim or enhance automatically, are now an option. Under the bonnet the Rapid gains a 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI
petrol option, available with either 94bhp or 109bhp.The less powerful engine hauls the car from 0-62mph in 11 seconds and onto a top speed of 116mph, while delivering fuel economy and emissions of 64.2mpg and 101g/km CO2. A 9.8-second 0-62mph dash is recorded for the 109bhp unit with a top speed of 124mph, but it loses out marginally in terms of efficiency – 62.8mpg and 104g/km CO2 is claimed. In the cabin, the Rapid gets new door inlays, new vents, new instruments, and redesigned switchgear for the air-conditioning controls. New optional Skoda Connect services including live traffic information and CareConnect support make the cut, alongside new USB ports in the back so rear seat passengers can charge devices such as smartphones. The new Rapid and Rapid Spaceback models will debut at the Geneva Motor Show early next month.

THE ALL-NEW
STINGER – COMING AUTUMN
Kia Stinger GT – From concept to concrete Stunning on the outside A picture says a thousand words. Kia are on a mission to change people’s perception of the brand, steering away from being more than just a reliable family car manufacturer. Employing Peter Schreyer as chief of design has certainly shaken things up with the new Stinger GT - a car built to rival the likes of the big German sports tourers such as the BMW 4series Gran Coupe. Kia stole Schreyer, (the man behind the Audi TT and the new VW Beetle) away from the Volkswagen group in 2006. Since then he’s designed the current Kia family cars and is responsible for the new “tiger-nose” grille. The new Stinger GT made a lasting impression at the North American International Auto Show back in January on its world debut, picking up two awards. Cars.com named it best in show for its combination of luxury and performance in a sports sedan. Also awarded was the EyesOn Design award for production car design excellence.
The exterior is fast and sleek with strong rear wheel drive proportions and exudes disarming confidence. Longer and wider than a BMW 4 series Gran Coupe, with a longer wheelbase than the Lexus GS. It shares a similar menacing silhouette with the likes of the Jaguar XF.
Sleek and sophisticated inside
Minimal yet luxurious. The interior features aircraft-style spoked vents, metal-ringed gauges, and satin Chrome trim. Ultra-soft Nappa leather covers the deeply bolstered seats and the driver’s seat even has adjustable bolsters for outstanding comfort
It can talk the talk, but can it walk the walk? Albert Biermann, former BMW M division VP has made sure it packs a punch with exceptional 14

handling. Now on board with Kia as the head of Vehicle Test & high performance development, he and his team have developed the superior ride and handling of the Stinger. The GT will be the first Kia saloon to be available with AWD and features a new dynamic stability damping control suspension that adapts to your driving.
“From its GT concept-car origins to the years of tuning and refining on the legendary Nurburgring circuit, no detail was too small to be obsessed over.”
Heart pounding performance
The Stinger will offer the choice of two turbocharged engines both paired with an 8 speed automatic gearbox. There’s the 360bhp 3.3 litre V6 capable of 0-62mph in 5.1 seconds, or you can opt for the 2.0Litre 255bhp engine. All this power requires some serious braking ability. Brembo® vented discs with quad-piston front callipers and dual piston rears are just what the doctor ordered.
