HONDA COMES OUT ON TOP IN WHAT CAR? SERVICING SATISFACTION SURVEY

H

value for money we offer and our ethos that the client relationship begins the moment consumers set foot in one of our showrooms. For us, every single customer is unique and that is why we create bespoke sales experiences from beginning to end.” "Most people get their cars serviced at a franchised dealer during the warranty period, making the experience you can expect an important consideration when buying a new car,” added What Car? editor Steve Huntingford. “The What Car? Servicing Satisfaction Survey shows that Honda dealers score well in every area – and while the level of satisfaction with many brands plummets as cars age, Honda owners can expect attentive behaviour from staff and a high standard of workmanship throughout their cars' lives."

onda has won What Car? magazine’s inaugural Servicing Satisfaction Survey, with the Japanese manufacturer receiving widespread praise for the quality and value of its comprehensive road car range. New for 2017, the poll – published in the November issue of Britain’s leading consumer automotive magazine – canvassed readers for their views on key criteria, from quality of work to politeness of staff and value for money. Honda is the only manufacturer to be rated inside the top three in both categories, placing second in ‘Best franchised dealers, 0-3 years’ – to reflect a typical new car warranty period – and third in ‘Best franchised dealers, 4-20 years’, indicative of how dealers perform as a car ages. Honda’s strong scores across the board earned the brand top honours in the overall ‘Best franchised dealers, 0-20 years’ rankings. “What Car? is an esteemed publication, and to be the only manufacturer to score so highly in all three age categories is testament to our unstinting commitment to offer the very best in customer service,” said David Hodgetts, Managing Director of Honda UK. “It is immensely satisfying to be recognised in this area. “At Honda, we pride ourselves on the quality of our products and our attention-to-detail, the

STONIC URBAN CROSSOVER Kia Enters Europe’s Fastest-Growing Market Sector with Stonic Urban Crossover

10

NORTON WAY CORPORATE • ISSUE 38 • NOV 2017

• K ia’s first entry into the urban crossover market • Five versions based on two trim lines and three powertrains • Fuel economy of up to 67.3mpg, with CO2 emissions as low as 109g/km • Agile and comfortable, with suspension and steering tuned in Europe • Features a suite of connectivity and electronic driver assistance systems

K

ia today enters Europe’s fastestgrowing market sector with the all-new Kia Stonic, an exciting, sporty, confident and smart new model. The all-new Stonic is based on the latest Rio supermini and is powered by high-efficiency, hightechnology petrol and diesel powertrains from Rio and the cee’d family. It was designed in Europe at the company’s Frankfurt studios, with input from the main design centre at Namyang in Korea. In the UK there is a five-model line-up based on grade ‘2’ and ‘First Edition’ trim levels. All versions offer an extensive package of connectivity features, including links to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay via pre-downloaded smartphone apps, while advanced electronic driver assistance systems such as autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning and automatic switching between high and low headlight beams are available. Key signature design elements such as the ‘tiger-nose’ main front grille, the distinctive C-pillar and the straight lines and smooth surfaces ensure that Stonic is instantly recognisable as a member of the modern Kia family. The ‘First Edition’ version stands out even more thanks to its two-tone paintwork. The roof, wing mirror casings and rear spoiler are picked out in either black, lime green, red or orange, depending on the choice of main body colour, and there are colour accents in the interior on the seats and around the lower centre console and display screen areas. The horizontal theme evident in the exterior styling is repeated in the cabin, emphasising width and space while separating the upper information and lower control areas. The number of buttons and switches has been kept to a minimum to give a neater look and greater functionality. The ‘First Edition’ follows the Rio in offering USB ports front

11

and rear so that mobile devices can be charged from any seat. All versions are generously equipped, with an extensive range of active safety features and up-to-the-minute connectivity in ‘First Edition’ versions. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) are standard. VSM is linked to Torque Vectoring, Straight Line Stability and Cornering Brake Control to help the driver maintain control in bad weather or on poorly surfaced roads. Autonomous Emergency Braking and Lane Departure Warning are standard in the ‘First Edition’ and optional on grade ‘2’ as part of an Advanced Driving Assistance Pack (ADAP). The ‘First Edition’ also has Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, to prevent the car from being driven into the path of a vehicle approaching from an angle out of the driver’s eye-line. There is a 7.0-inch display with a DAB radio and MP3 compatibility in grade ‘2’, and in the First Edition this is upgraded to a 7.0-inch touchscreen navigation and infotainment system featuring Kia Connected Services with TomTom™. John Rayment, Sales Manager from GWR Kia commented: “We are very excited to introduce residents in and around Brentford, Greater London to the all-new Kia Stonic. The all-new Stonic is a fantastic urban crossover and the range of colours and technology make it a really strong offering for anyone looking for their next great car so we look forward to welcoming people in for a test drive!” In common with all Kia’s, the all-new Stonic has the best warranty in the business – a sevenyear/100,000-mile declaration of faith in the reliability and quality of the car, covering all labour and parts except those subject to normal wear and tear. The warranty is transferable if the car is sold before the time/mileage limit expires.

THE NEW 5008 S TOP INDUSTRY CRITICS REVIEW THE NEW 5008 SUV

T

hanks to a complete overhaul, the Peugeot 5008 is almost unrecognisable from what came before. The new model is better than ever thanks to a fantastic interior and a composed feel on the road. The 5008 shares much with the new 3008, as you might expect from the similar styling, but of course the larger SUV has a third row of seats in the back. These can be folded down to free up extra boot space should you need it, so while the 5008 doesn’t match the 3008 for economy or looks, it makes up for that with the added practicality. It promises to make family life on the road much more pleasant in 2017 than it was just a couple of years ago.”     AUTO CAR “If you like the style and impressive technology of the 3008, but you need a bit more space, then the Peugeot 5008 is the answer.”     HONEST JOHN “The new Peugeot 5008 departs from the MPV styling of the old model, instead, it’s chosen the SUV look that’s proven so irresistible to buyers, while inside you get the latest incarnation of Peugeot’s i-Cockpit design language.”     CAR WOW

“This current-generation model is quite firmly in the SUV camp and is a rival to the likes of the Skoda Kodiaq and Nissan X-Trail . Like its smaller sibling, the 3008, the 5008 receives a rather swish interior that, compared with the functional dashboards of its rivals, makes it look like a motor show concept car.”     WHATCAR?

tested roads of Norwa Fresh from its launch in June, the updated Mazda CX-3 was taken for a spin on the stunning roads of Norway for one of Mazda UK’s Epic Drive media events. Over the course of a week, the CX-3s took in some of Scandinavia’s finest roads, highlighting both the enhanced refinement and the CX-3’s classleading handling, while the flagship GT Sport special edition made its public debut in Norway. Launched in June 2015, the Mazda CX-3 bought new levels of sophistication, style, driving pleasure and equipment to the growing small SUV market. The updated Mazda CX-3 builds on this with technology upgrades to both Mazda’s i-ACTIVSENSE safety systems and the SKYACTIV-D diesel engine, while across the board the CX-3 benefits from the introduction of G-Vectoring Control (GVC), subtle suspension revisions and increased sound insulation to ensure improved cabin refinement. tested roads of Norwa – the Eiksund – road tunnels in the world. Other route highlights included the stunning Atlantic Highway and the switchback hairpins of the Troll’s Ladder. The revised 13-model Mazda CX-3 range features eight 2.0-litre SKYACTIV-G petrol models and five SKYACTIV-D 105ps diesels. Offered with either 120ps or 150ps, the 2.0-litre petrol engine accounts for 80 per cent of UK sales. Available in all trims, with both SKYACTIV-MT manual and SKYACTIV-Drive automatic transmissions, the 120ps engine with front-wheel drive makes up the bulk of the line-up, while the 150ps engine is matched exclusively to allwheel drive (AWD). Joining the 120ps SKYACTIV-G petrol line up, the GT Sport is offered with manual or automatic gearbox and costs £22,895 and £24,095 respectively. Limited to just 500 cars, the GT Sport features the same generous standard equipment tally as the Sport Nav, but adds to the CX-3’s appeal with unique styling cues and high-class interior trim. With a stand-out aero kit designed to enhance the CX-3’s coupe-like profile and sharp lines, the Mazda CX-3 GT Sport’s front, side and rear skirts with silver inserts, black rear roof spoiler and 18-inch silver alloy wheels give it a uniquely high-end and sporty look. This is complemented by a choice of free-of-charge Ceramic Metallic or Meteor Grey Mica paint, while the premium feel continues inside with Nappa leather and unique GT-Line floor mats. As before, the SKYACTIV-D 1.5-litre diesel engine completes the engine line up, as with petrol versions, front-wheel drive models make up the majority of the range, although the 105ps SKYACTIV-D Sport Nav AWD is offered with both manual and automatic transmissions. With emissions of just 105g/km the front-wheel drive SKYACTIV-D has an official combined economy of 70.6mpg. Mazda’s smooth and efficient 1.5-litre 16

SKYACTIV-D engine now features Transient Control, which ensures a more positive throttle response by reducing turbo lag and boosting torque to deliver a petrol-like engine feel. The engine has also benefited from the introduction of Mazda’s Natural Sound Smoother (NSS) technology, which thanks to a dynamic damper inside the piston pin suppresses resonance from the piston and connecting rod to reduce knock noise during starting and low-speed acceleration. All models in the revised Mazda CX-3 range feature a new steering wheel, while enhanced cabin refinement across the range is achieved thanks to the adoption of extra sound absorbing material in key areas like the dashboard, tailgate, transmission tunnel and boot. In addition, petrol models now feature a re-tuned engine mounts that reduce resonance entering the cabin. This improvement in refinement is matched to subtle enhancements to the Mazda CX-3’s already driver-focused dynamics. Slightly altered front and rear damper specifications and new front lower arm rear side bushings improve ride quality, while recalibration of the electric power steering has improved precision and linearity of the steering. Overall, controllability during cornering and straight-line stability has been improved, while at the same time better ride quality and reduced cabin noise have enhanced occupant comfort.

Adding to this dynamic improvement is the introduction of G-Vectoring Control (GVC) across the Mazda CX-3 range. The first of Mazda’s SKYACTIVVEHICLE DYNAMICS technologies, GVC varies engine torque to optimise loading on the wheels when cornering to indiscernibly provide more precise handling and improve comfort. Standard from SE-L Nav trim onwards, Mazda Advanced Smart City Brake Support has been upgraded to include pedestrian detection. Other new equipment highlights on the upgraded Mazda CX-3 include heated, auto-power folding door mirrors across 17
