Civic Saloon arriving in August!

H

onda UK have announced the Civic range is expanding in the UK with the introduction of a Civic four door saloon. The model is built in Turkey and expected to arrive in the UK in August, both petrol and diesel powertrains will be available. Both powertrain variants will be the same as the Hatchback variant – a 1.0 i-VTEC petrol (CVT or manual transmission) and 1.6 i-DTEC diesel (nine-speed automatic or manual transmission). The new model is wider, longer and lower than any of its predecessors, with a short front overhang and taut lines to improve its aerodynamic efficiency. The wider and longer platform results in class-leading interior space. The interior features an uncluttered layout, and the saloon has the advantage of unrivalled passenger and luggage space with versatile & practical usability. 2

Phil Webb, head of car at Honda UK, commented: “The Civic is a core model for Honda in Europe and has been at the heart of the brand’s strong sales and manufacturing heritage, with the hatchback built in Swindon. The arrival of the saloon to the UK market compliments the Civic family and will be a great addition to our showrooms alongside what is already a very successful range for Honda.” The latest model builds on 40-year heritage of the Civic name, and represents a significant step forward for Honda in the C-segment, which is part of the largest single model global development programme in Honda’s history. We are still waiting for details on pricing, specification, grades and fuel efficiency but we expect these to be announced closer to the August launch.

KIA TO LAUNCH NEW DIESEL 48V MILD-HYBRID POWERTRAIN IN 2018

Kia Motors will introduce its first 48V diesel mildhybrid powertrain in the second half of 2018. The new ‘EcoDynamics+’ powertrain reduces CO2 emissions by supplementing acceleration with electric power from an additional 48-volt battery and extending combustion engine ‘off time’ using a new Mild-Hybrid Starter-Generator unit. In line with Kia’s aim to create innovative cars that are affordable for a broad range of buyers, EcoDynamics+ mildhybrid technology offers a compelling cost-to-performance ratio compared to full hybrid powertrains. The compact nature of the components means the technology can be integrated into existing vehicle and powertrain architectures without impacting practicality or packaging. Kia’s mild-hybrid powertrain is designed to fit seamlessly into consumers’ lives, with no plug-in recharging required. The Kia Sportage will be the first model to offer the new EcoDynamics+ diesel mild-hybrid powertrain later in 2018. The allnew third-generation Kia Ceed will be the second among a range of Kia models to offer the new powertrain from 2019. 9
