308R HYBRID The Peugeot 308 has been renowned for higher performance, boosted by the versatility of its EMP2 platform. Last year saw Peugeot Sport develop the fantastic 308 GTi, but could 2016 see something even more special?

Sports Look This concept has the perfect proportions for its quest for pure performance, its compact shape offers perfect balance whilst its elegant style and sporting prowess are sure to turn a lot of heads on the road. The car has been designed to both aid performance and give a radical look. Examples of this can be found in the dynamic front checked grill, it supplies the innovative 500-hp powertrain with air. This is then matched with side air scoops which integrate the sequential LED indicators. The bumpers feature two scoops that help keep the battery temperature down by drawing out the hot air. It’s dynamic on the inside too, through the use of unique and innovative materials. The dashboard is made out of a soft material that diminishes the need for foam, making a lighter vehicle overall. The bucket seats are upholstered in fawncoloured perforated leather. In true sporting tradition the interior is finished with touches of red, including the dials, steering wheel and central console.

The 308 R Hybrid has been developed, which features a new plugin petrol hybrid powertrain on the same 308 base. The 500hp and the four-wheel drive will be sure to push back the boundaries of sporting prowess in the segment. Here at Norton Way Peugeot we would love to see this 500hp beast hit the production lines and thought this newsletter would be the perfect opportunity to take you through some of the key features.

Driving Experience The doors open to reveal an impressive interior structured by Peugeot i-Cockpit, a stretched-out central console and bucket seats. The selected materials and colours clearly state the aim of the vehicle: pure performance. The compact steering wheel and upholstery in perforated leather, allows for precise, incisive positioning when cornering. The steering wheel paddles are immediately to hand, giving the driver finger-tip control over the six speed gearbox. And the head-up display provides all relevant driving information, without the need to take your eyes off the road. Finally, the two buttons on the central console allow the driver to keep a check on the mechanics. The first activates the powerful powertrain while the second gives access to the four driving modes. (continued overleaf...)

Performance Peugeot Sport were challenged to develop an efficient petrol hybrid plug-in powertrain, integrate it into the EMP2 platform and set new limits in terms of performance. Their main focus was to create a vehicle that is perfectly balanced, with 60% of its weight to the front and 40% to the rear. The Peugeot 308 R Hybrid has a fiery spirit but an incredible weight/power ratio, barely reaching 3.1 kg/hp.

The powertrain combines three sources of power: 1. 4-cylinder petrol 1.6L THP 270 S&S engine, with the highest special power rating in the world for its engine size 2. Electric motor with power of kW/ 115 hp, linked to the 6-speed gearbox 3. Electric motor with the same characteristics on the rear axle

Extreme Sensations Peugeot 308 R Hybrid is aweinspiring proof of the engineers’ and designers’ talent and of the overall excellence of the Peugeot 308. The 500hp powerhouse will feature the following modes: 1. Hot Lap Mode: This is the most powerful, harnessing the full potential from the three power sources to reach a total of 500hp and a maximum torque of 730Nm.

2. Sport Mode: Delivers 400hp and 530Nm, mainly from the petrol engine and rear electric motor. The front electric model acts as an additional booster when accelerating. 3. Road Mode: This is specially designed for road use, the petrol engine delivers its full potential with aid from the rear electric motor and the front electric motor is not used. 4. ZEV Mode: The rear electric motor has priority to power the vehicle. The front electric motor comes into play, depending on the pressure applied to the accelerator pedal.

Peugeot wins the 2016 Dakar Peugeot waited 26 years since their last triumph at the Dakar Rally, but 2016 saw Peugeot claim their 5th victory in the French marque’s history. Team Peugeot Total Drivers, Stéphane Peterhansel and JeanPaul Cottret, battled the roads and tracks of Argentina and Boliva from behind the wheel of the 2008DKR, to win the 2016 Dakar Rally. This victory is the latest chapter in a compelling story of motorsport success for Peugeot, which includes previous Dakar wins, Le Mans 24 Hours, Pikes Peak and the World Rally Championship. This victory will go down in history for Peugeot, as it triumphed at only its second participation in the South America event, with a total of three Peugeot 2008 DKRs reaching the finish ramp. Bruno Famin, Peugeot Sport Director said: “The results have surpassed our expectations because we came here just to show the performance of the car. And we’ve achieved that objective well throughout all different types

of conditions. That goes to show that we have accomplished the technical mission that we set ourselves. We’ve nonetheless found a few small mechanical issues, which show us that there is still a margin of progression left in our Peugeot 2008 DKR. We’re absolutely delighted with this result and we hope to confirm it again next year – maybe even by aiming for a one-two-three.”

bonnet and roof-mounted air-intake, which were heavily revised to provide more balance and better airflow. Further improvements were gained from redesigned suspension, better weight distribution and the use of magnesium one-piece wheels to save significant weight. The Rally The 38th Dakar rally started in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Saturday 2nd January, then concluded in Rosario, Argentina on Saturday 16th January. The course included over 10,000 kilometres of intense competition, during which they travelled practically the entire width of South America, through some of the toughest possible terrains.

The Vehicle that tackled the desert The muscular, thoroughbred yet beastlike form of the new Peugeot 2008 DKR16 easily shows why the vehicle was so successful. Ever since the 2015 event finished, the Peugeot Team have been prepping the 2016 model to ensure success was guaranteed. The victorious 2016 model was longer, wider, lower and more powerful than its predecessor: presenting a more aggressive stance, with a raft of improvements under the skin. Its agility was improved from the front and rear overhangs being reduced. The Peugeot 2008 DKR16 also benefited from improved aerodynamics, largely down to Above, Stéphane Peterhansel (FRA) celebrates his 12th Dakar Rally win with Peugeot, 45h 22m 10s.

They will then further this commitment by publishing pollutant levels including nitrogen oxides (NOx) as a second step with Euro 6.2 passenger vehicles by spring 2017. The procedure will measure real-world fuel economy for each of Peugeot’s main passenger vehicle models with tests on open public roads near Paris in real driving conditions, these will include segments in urban, extra-urban and highway driving. The procedure will be included in Peugeot’s quality processes. The process, its correct execution and the tests results’ measurement will be audited and validated by an internationally recognized independent third party. Carlos Tavares, Chairman of the Managing Board of PSA Peugeot Citroën, said: “This innovative initiative is a clear demonstration that a carmaker and independent NGOs can reach agreement for the benefit of customer information. This will also highlight the advanced technologies

that PSA Peugeot Citroën is developing to contribute to fuel efficiency.” In the wake of the recent emissions and fuel economy scandals, this move by PSA Peugeot Citroen is a move in the positive direction to regain some confidence in the motoring world. It also shows the confidence PSA Peugeot Citroen has in their Advanced Engine Technologies. Currently they have the lowest fleet average CO2 emissions in Europe, at just 110.3g.km overall on available models. It’s just yet another reason why Peugeot should be your number one choice.

MEET THE TEAM

TERRY SKAVYDIS Throughout 2016 we will be giving you an insight into the day to day life at Norton Way Peugeot, with interviews from staff, charity events, awards and any other great bits of news that we have to share. We would like to kick off the year with an Interview on our General Manager, Terry Skavydis. His job role is to oversee the running of the dealership, by effectively managing the staff and making sure everything goes smoothly. Terry is one of Norton Way Group’s longest standing employees, after being with the company for over 21 years. Terry has been in the motor industry ever since he was a teenager, when he started his career as a HGV Apprentice Technician. Shortly after this he started working in a car dealership, with his first experience in a Fiat Main Dealer, here he managed to work his way up from Workshop Foreman to General Manager. Looking for a bigger opportunity, Terry soon moved to a Jaguar & Mazda Dealership, becoming Franchise Manager, spending over 8 years there before starting his fantastic career at Norton Way Group. Terry’s long career at Norton Way, started back in 1995 where he began to work at Norton Way Mazda. Managing Director, David Grainger, was keen to get Terry on board when an opportunity arose of purchasing an existing Peugeot franchise, which is now Norton Way Peugeot. One of Terry’s favourite things about his career is seeing how one industry has changed so much, he remembers when he first started

working in the motor trade and not even having a computer, and now the dealership wouldn’t run without them! We asked Terry the question of why he has chosen to work for Norton Way Group for so long, and he says it’s mainly down to the company always working towards progressing and improving. He also loves the fact that customer satisfaction and service are at the heart of the company’s ethos, with quality always being the focus over volume. Last of all, he says its brilliant how these values come from the top of the company, with David and his passion for always improving the business. Terry is currently driving at 508SW GT and loves its comfort and the amount of interior space the vehicle has. The 508 is part of the best ever Peugeot range, Terry believes, with his favourite car in the range being the 308. This was mainly down to the vehicle having the latest technology and an engine range like no other, Terry commends the fantastic MPG and a smooth drive of each variant. Why don’t you come and see Terry and his team at Norton Way Peugeot are always on hand to help you with any queries you may have. TO READ THE FULL INTERVIEW WITH TERRY SKAVYDIS, CLICK HERE
