Like so many charities, much of Steps’ fund-raising income streams have no longer been available as Covid has meant that events had to be cancelled. The running costs of the centre amount to £220,000 a year and despite the fact that the money that is usually donated has been reduced by at least half, the centre has continued to provide a virtual service for its families by transmitting daily sessions that parents can access and their children can participate in. Janet Russell, a manager at the centre, said, “Although it’s a struggle, we are keeping our chin above the stormy financial waters. We are always delighted when individuals or organisations make donations of any size and I was very happy when a local company, SP Sales and Lettings, got in touch to say that they would like to give us some money!
Next Issue
Sean Pell, a Shepshed resident and MD of the company, told me that his mother had always been involved with and interested in supporting people with disabilities and her son was keen to continue this by finding a way of donating to a local charity.”
Articles
Sean said, “I’m very happy to promote my company’s community involvement and to make a financial commitment also. I decided that, for every house that we sell, I would donate 10% of the seller’s fee to Steps. The first cheque is for £107.50 and I hope that many more will follow!”

If you would like to support this wonderful charity either by donating money or volunteering to help with gardening and small maintenance tasks, please contact Janet on manager@stepscentre.org.uk or ring 01509 506878.

Shepshed & District Camera Club
Protecting Your Family’s Inheritance
Following the Easter break the members of Shepshed and District Camera Club continued with their regular Tuesday evening meetings on Zoom up until the start of the Summer break in mid-June. It consisted of the third Competition League round of 2021, a few in-club evenings and several presentations by speakers online from various parts of the country.
Our frontline staff follow Government guidelines for visiting you in your home and they are in the vaccination program with second course completed. LevLaw Ltd remains here for you.
Among the guest speakers was Jeanette Lendon who gave a lot of practical advice on how to use smart phones for photography, a fast growing method of obtaining pictures these days without carrying a bag of camera equipment around all the time. Richard O’Brien joined the club online for another evening when he gave a presentation in the first half of a selection of his excellent architectural photography and some advice on how to go about approaching this subject and then in the second part of the evening he demonstrated his own methods and techniques for producing the final images using both Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop.
Most people hope that their estate will pass on to their children and grandchildren eventually.
Article by Brian Walbey
Tracey Lund joined the club online one evening with an excellent presentation of Wildlife photography and Harry Kingman gave the members an interesting evening with pictures taken in Antarctica, South Georgia and The Falkland Islands. Finally, and the last meeting of the season, Erica Oram gave the members a wide ranging presentation of her photographic portfolio which demonstrated how a great variety of pictures can be taken of a single subject, and tips on how to go about this including her own particular method of photographing people when doing street photography. The third round of the 2021 Competition league took place early in May and was judged by David Gibbons online from his home. The themed subject this time was Nature/Animals and the other class was as usual Open Subject. After making comments on every entry David chose the following to receive awards:
Open Class: 1st Mick Jelley ‘A Winters Dawn’ 2nd Kevin Moore 3rd John Clarke HC Alan Harris and Mick Jelley Themed Class: Nature/Animals 1st Martin Wyatt ‘Stunned Its Catch’ 2nd Alan Harris 3rd Martin Wyatt HC Mick Jelley and Martin Wyatt The Club will meet again in early September, on the 14th.for the Annual General Meeting which is for existing members only and then the first meeting open to prospective new members is on the 21st. September. It is hoped that by then the Covid-19 restrictions are in a position where the Club can once again start meeting together in person at a venue to be confirmed in due course. But this will not happen for many, unless careful arrangements have been made to protect their assets from being taken towards the end of their life to pay for care home fees. The solution to help protect your estate is a Will incorporating a Property Protection Trust (PPT). A testamentary PPT can only be executed whilst both partners remain alive. Upon death of the first partner, their Will specifies that their share of the property is placed into trust and names the ultimate beneficiary of this share, normally the children and grandchildren of the deceased. The surviving partner, under the terms of the trust, has the unequivocal right to remain living in the property for the rest of their life. On the death of the second partner the Trust comes to an end and the property passes to the beneficiaries. As the surviving partner does not own the deceased’s share of the property it is fully protected for the beneficiaries, so if the surviving partner requires care, or even remarries, this share of the children’s inheritance is protected. This last point can be particular interest to couples who have come together and have children with different partners. A PPT can help each person in a relationship ensuring that their children inherit their share of the property, while giving their surviving partner the ability to live in the property for the rest of their life. If the surviving partner wants to move to another property, they can still sell the property and the proceeds to be used to purchase a new property, the terms of the Trust remain over the new property.

Spotlight on Iveshead
July 2021
All this hard work is paying off as several students have been extremely successful in securing Apprenticeships.
In October 2020 students had a break from their normal timetables to spend the morning researching careers. The younger students thought about their personal characteristics and how they might link to future employment. During February half term, a group of year 10, 11 and 12 students took part in some 'virtual' work experience with Morgan Sindall Construction. Grouped with others country-wide, they completed tasks, heard from staff and completed a presentation. Year 9 students will take part in a Speed Networking Event giving them the opportunity to talk to real employers about their careers.

Huge congratulations goes to Year 11 student, Rhys, for gaining a Barbering Apprenticeship with Smith & Smith in Loughborough, putting his hard work at Iveshead to good use. Year 13 student Daisy secured a degree apprenticeship with Morrisons plc, she starts in September working in various Morrisons stores and studying part time at Sheffield Hallam University, working towards a BSc Degree in Business Management. Another Year 13 student has secured an apprenticeship at Specsavers, Megan told us:
Year 10 students had mock virtual interviews with a local employer using Microsoft Teams. Students will receive feedback ready for College and/or Apprenticeships next year.

LIFE BEYOND IVESHEAD Staff at Iveshead have been working hard to prepare their students for life beyond Iveshead. During morning tutor time students can learn about the ‘Career of the Week’.
For those still unaware as to what the podcasts are about here are the aims and objectives; to support new businesses and charities, to speak with the people behind the scenes, and residents with unusual stories to tell. All this done with humour and music, although I have to be mindful of copyright law, to which Facebook seem to be dragging their feet. In a nutshell it is a showcase for Shepshed, and although this is very early days, I’m happy with the progress. The group page is updated everyday with comments from me and others, plus videos from the wider public.
“
I will gain a level 2 optical assistant apprenticeship; the role is for 13 months. I wish to take on greater opportunities in the near future to specialise in different sectors of optometry.

Health On The Shelf! Slimming Expert Backs New Savvy Supermarket Campaign Article by Shepshed Slimming World Group
A weight-loss Consultant is encouraging anyone who’d like to lose weight and live a healthier life in Shepshed to be wary of supermarkets promoting unhealthy products, after new research found that many food retailers are not doing enough to tackle obesity. A new report, Health on the Shelf, by the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) and Slimming World, exposes the marketing tactics used to drive sales of unhealthy products and reveals that supermarket layout, pricing strategies and the current shopping environment is fuelling the obesity epidemic. The research found less than 1 in 5 (15%) of the public believe supermarkets are doing enough to tackle obesity, and almost half of the public (48%) believe that legislation should be introduced to require supermarkets to proactively encourage healthier choices. As part of the research the organisations also surveyed Slimming World members to ask what supermarkets could do to promote healthier lifestyles. They found a staggering 90% want more offers on healthier products such as fruit and vegetables, 68% want more positive signs promoting healthy foods and recipes, and 66% want fewer promotions on unhealthy products. Christina & Claie Lou, Slimming World Consultants for the Shepshed morning & evening groups, says that the difference between the survey of the general public and Slimming World members shows how members of her slimming group learn that with support and guidance they can make better food choices and feel empowered to adapt their shopping routines to ensure they are eating an overall healthy, balanced diet to support their weight loss. Christina says: “Being overweight not only impacts on people’s physical health, it can also impact on overall mental and emotional wellbeing and happiness. Having been overweight Christina & Claire Lou have lost an incredible stone between them as members, I know how tricky it can be to
navigate supermarket shopping in a healthy way – especially when you have a whole family to shop for – with special offers on unhealthy products often everywhere you look!” “With support and guidance to make better food choices, however, members of our Shepshed groups feel empowered to adapt their shopping routines to ensure they are eating an overall healthy, balanced diet to support their weight loss. At Slimming World, we believe people should have the flexibility to enjoy a variety of food and drink choices and we equip our members to intuitively make healthier choices so that they can lose weight and maintain it.” “In fact, the survey of over 2,000 slimmers following Slimming World’s eating plan online or attending a local weekly group, found that since becoming a Slimming World member 86% had changed the way they shop!” Christina who lives in Shepshed, has lost 3.5 stones since joining the group in 2012 & maintained target since. She says: “Before joining Slimming World I would often put chocolate, crisps and sweets in my trolley just because they were on offer or discounted. I didn’t really plan my meals or cook anything I couldn’t just put in the oven or get from a jar or packet. Now my shopping habits are completely different, and my whole family have benefited from the changes. I plan my recipes in advance, so I know exactly what I need for the week and my shopping is actually cheaper now because it’s full of vegy products (vegan member), fruit and vegetables. I can still enjoy all my favourite foods like a glass of wine or a bar of chocolate in moderation, and so I get what I actually need rather than filling my basket with junk food just for the sake of it being cheap.” “The thing I love about Slimming World is that it really isn’t a diet. It’s more of a lifestyle change. I can still eat all my favourite meals – curries, chillies, fry-ups, pasta dishes, roast dinners, you name it – just by making small and simple changes to the way I prepare and cook them. The whole family can enjoy my cooking too and they say the meals we eat now are tastier than before! I have so much more energy too since losing weight, I’ve even taken up walking and biking. Nowadays I bounce round the supermarket feeling completely in control – it’s a wonderful feeling.” To find out more about the Shepshed Slimming World groups call Christina for AM on 07486532978 or Claire Lou PM on 07488243173 or visit www.slimmingworld.co.uk to find your nearest group. Shepshed Special Community Bus Article by Anne Glasper
The Shepshed Special Community Bus is planning for an expected return to ferrying passengers without their own transport and those with physical challenges and learning difficulties. The bus collects a wide range of passengers from their home and transports them on shopping trips to several different supermarkets and delivers them and their shopping home safely. The bus also runs leisure trips to places of interest locally, as a service to those who are usually unable to get out or to access other forms of public transport. We are looking to recruit several volunteer drivers and escort staff who would be willing to join our list of people able to help on occasions when we are short staffed, such as annual leave or illness or occasional special hirings. If you are interested, please contact the Co-ordinator, Alison by phone or email to find out more. The Bus is a registered Charity and we depend on the income raised from fundraising to help with the costs of keeping the vehicles roadworthy and insured for the activities we run. During Lockdown we have been unable to run these community events, but we hope to return in September with a Patriotic Tea Dance and later in the year another concert featuring Sabatino and Sutcliffe, both of which have proved so popular in the past. In the meantime, our volunteers have been collecting paperbacks which they’ve been reading during Lockdown and we’ve prised them away from their bookshelves to put on Sale. The first two of these will be in July on Fridays 2nd and 16th at 9.00 am in front of the Town Council offices on Charnwood Road. Do come and browse the crime, romance and history sections, find a bargain and help a good local cause. Thank you for helping us to help others in our town.

Incinerator update As regular readers may be aware, I have taken great interest in the incinerator which is currently under construction near Shepshed. I have never in favour of having this facility built here, and indeed I remain sceptical about incinerators in general. However, this incinerator gained permission some years ago.
Following my last column, a resident contacted me to give a heads-up that some new trees in Daisy Bank were suffering in the latest drought. I got on to William Davis and they got their contractor to water. I am very gratified that a resident was mobilised to rally to the call to keep the poor things alive, but I will have to continue making sure that WD keep monitoring until the parish council adopt the site.
I have spoken in debates in Westminster calling for a moratorium on new incinerators being built until the Environment Bill has been passed. I have been lobbying ministers to bring the accepted levels of PM 2.5 in line with the World Health Organisation standard. Currently in the UK, incinerators can release higher amounts of PM 2.5 than the WHO standard and I have been lobbying for the UK level to match the WHO level. While I have previously campaigned against the incinerator to being built, I now accept that it is here and will become operational within the next few years. As such, I’m exploring options to use energy from the incinerator to heat local buildings. The electricity substation already being built as part of the construction of the site will allow electricity produced by the plant to go straight into the national grid, providing power for local homes. Recently I visited the site to meet representatives where I was able to raise residents’ concerns. I am grateful for their time, and they continue to work productively with me to address any concerns when they arise. If you have any concerns about the incinerator, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
Now Daisy Bank 2 is on the horizon. Emma and I attended a stakeholders’ meeting with WD about the building of 50 odd dwellings between Daisy Bank 1 and the Zouch road. I did point out that it would be in everyone’s interest and not least in WD’s own financial interests to learn a few lessons from the present situation and to get future planting done at the right time and to do full monitoring afterwards, so that it doesn’t drag on and do my head in again with my having to send endless emails and reminders cum nudges. They agreed and so we hope.
Launch of new Business Club This month I launched the Loughborough Constituency Business Club. This is a free club available to all businesses, both large and small, based within the Loughborough constituency, including in Shepshed and Hathern. We are going to be hosting a variety of events including seminars, networking meetings and Q&As with Government ministers. It’s free to join, so if you are interested in attending any future events, you can sign up on my website at: www.janehunt.uk/loughborough-constituency-business-club. By signing up to the Business Club, you will also be added to my monthly business newsletter which I send out at the beginning of the month. Step up to great mental health The three NHS clinical commissioning groups covering Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are carrying out a public consultation into proposals to invest in and improve adult mental health services for people when their need is urgent or they need planned care and treatment. Mental and emotional health problems represent the largest single cause of disability in the UK. One in four adults experiences at least one mental health problem in any given year. To take part in the consultation, click the button below. The Loughborough Wellbeing Café is also available to offer assistance to people who want to take part. Simply email them at loughboroughwellbeing@gmail.com and they will arrange help. As ever, if you require my help on any matter, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

It was the usual story with traffic. WD assured us that the additional traffic would not cause any significant extra congestion according to Highways. I often wonder if Highways have ever concluded that a development would bring an unacceptable amount of additional traffic. Emma’s and my jaws dropped, however, when we asked about school places and were told that the County Council had told WD that Hathern school was undersubscribed (sic.). Yes, you read that right – undersubscribed. We were further informed that the children in the school grow up and move on to other schools and so the village needs new people moving in to fill the places. I sat there wondering if all the women in the village had been swimming in the river and suddenly gone sterile. Last time I checked, several parents had been complaining to Betty Newton that they couldn’t get their kids into the school and had to send them to Loughborough or Shepshed. Shortly after this I attended a full council meeting in which we debated whether to send the draft local plan out to consultation. Despite the motion being only about whether to do that or not, many councillors took the opportunity to make a speech objecting to proposed development in their wards. I made the point that, although Hathern is not getting huge numbers in or around the village, it will be heavily impacted by massive developments not too far away, resulting in very large numbers of cars traversing Hathern from Belton (6,000), Shepshed (2,000) and Garendon (3,200). Residents can hear the debate on the council website. https://auditelsystems.mediasite.com/Mediasite/ Play/0a507940f16b4cee817350590d42bc6e1d I would like to say that councillors of all colours and especially the poor members on the planning committee are extremely frustrated by the fact that house building is almost entirely determined by market forces. (This is not a political statement. You will hear several Conservative members lamenting it on the recording). The committee’s hand is tied by the lack of a 5-year housing supply and this is exacerbated by the failure of developers to build. For example, not a brick has been laid in 5 years on the Garendon SUE and so not one house of the proposed 3,200 counts towards our needs. In the meantime, if the committee refuses developments like Daisy Bank 2 and Loughborough Road, the developer will go to appeal, win and get costs paid by the council. Therefore, I urge residents to get their facts together and join forces to present cases to the council in the six-week consultation period. Also add your voice to that of many councillors who complained that 6 weeks is not long enough. The number of visitors to the library is picking up steadily. We allow 6 people in at a time now, which means 2 staff and 4 visitors. This means you are less likely to have to wait outside. The All Join In session for toddlers has started again every second Thursday morning and we hope to start the other activities soon. The Summer Reading Challenge has been launched. See the website for details. Hathern excelled itself again and was quick off the blocks after lockdown easing to put together a long weekend of great events. The Hathern Village Association have a double event planned for August 21 and 22 – a music event headlined by the perennially popular We Tried Kylie with guests and a Fireworks display. Tickets are on sale now. Please buy some and support them. They really need to have a full house at these events to get back on their feet. Hathern Wildlife goes from strength to strength with lovely photos of animals and plants posted daily. Hathern Club are up and running again with regular live music evenings. The new owners of the Dewdrop inn have done a fabulous job of sprucing up the premises while retaining its village pub vibe. They are showing the Euro games and have been offering shots for every England goal. The strikers have not bothered the barmen much so far and the punters are glad they didn’t make the offer for Harry Kane’s shots on target. Keep safe and get the vaccination if you haven’t done it yet. If you are very lucky, you will be escorted to the vaccination station by your councillor.

Christine Radford County Councillor for Shepshed T: 01509 502974 M: 07796 544817 E: christine_radford@hotmail.com
As we have all done throughout the pandemic, we must continue to follow the latest health and safety advice. I hope that you have been able to meet up with family and friends safely again over the last few weeks and will continue to be able to do so safely until I hope restrictions are eased later in the summer. Have a say on bus services The county council is working closely with local bus operators to come up with bold plans to improve public transport – and encouraging more people to use it. The Government has pledged £3 billion to help progress these plans across the county – and Leicestershire is aiming to secure a fair share of the funding. However, to secure this funding, the council must develop a Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) The council needs input to help it develop the plan. It wants to find out what people think would improve local bus services – and what would encourage them to use local buses more. County would like to hear from people who already use buses, those who currently don’t as well as from public, private and voluntary organisations. There is a questionnaire at www.leicestershire.gov.uk/bus-strategy-survey for people to have their say. The closing date is Friday 30th July. New project for autistic people launched in Leicester and Leicestershire Leicestershire County Council and Leicester City Council have joined together to encourage autistic people, their families, and carers to share their experiences of diagnosis and receiving support. The Every Voice Counts initiative is asking residents to share their personal experience of health and social care services from the day of their autism diagnosis to their ongoing support, to help improve the care autistic people receive in the county and city. To gather people’s views the councils held virtual focus groups and one to one discussions. These sessions were chaired by an autistic person and took place either via zoom or the phone. As cabinet member for Adults and communities, I feel that this new project seeks to break down the barriers and boundaries between professionals, communities and the people who use county’s services and their carers, so that we can work together better and create really positive changes to the services county offer. The aims of this project is to support autistic people aged 18 and over, and their families, and carers to enable them to share their experiences with us so that we can feed back to other specialist groups. We will share and celebrate good practice but also make sure we address where things have gone wrong. Summer Reading Challenge 2021 Leicestershire Libraries call for children aged between four and 12 to join the Wild World Heroes by signing up for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge. The relaxing of restrictions this summer means the annual challenge is back in your local library this year as well as online and runs from Saturday 3rd July to Saturday 4th September. Thousands of children take part across the UK and Leicestershire each year and the aim is to encourage children to read whatever makes them happy, have fun and , as this year’s theme suggest, get wild! Children have been through an intense period of disruption and it’s great to see Libraries open for children to visit again. Children can collect six special stickers, including smelly ones, for their colourful collector’s poster, and other incentives, including a medal, as they read, listen to or share six library books, eBooks or eAudiobooks over the summer and make two visits to a library.

All children taking part are entitled to free admission to Bosworth Battlefield and Donington-le-Health Manor House by showing their Wild World Heroes poster on entry (one per full-paying adult). To find out more and for updated information about events visit www. leicestershireshire.gov.uk/libraries Carers week Leicestershire County Council encouraged unpaid carers to apply for their carer’s passport to ensure they could receive the right advice and support and are recognised for their valuable role within our communities. An identity card was developed as a response to the difficulties and challenges which carers faced, often daily, to offer them vital recognition, which has been particularly important during the pandemic. The passport offers an aid to identification for carers which is vital in ensuring they receive the help and support they need to support them in their caring role. Caring will touch each of us in some way during our lifetime, whether we become a carer or need care ourselves. Whilst caring can be a rewarding experience, county recognise it can also have a huge impact on a person’s health, finances and relationships. Since the launch of the carers passport in November 2020 over 4,000 passports have been issued to unpaid carers in Leicestershire. To apply for a carers passport, or for more information please contact Support for Carers on 0185 468543 or visit www.supportforcarers.org. A carer is someone who provides unpaid care and support to a family member or friend who has a disability, mental or physical illness, substance misuse issue or who needs extra help as they grow older. County Council celebrated Leicestershire Shared Lives carers Leicestershire County Council celebrated Shared Lives Week (14-20 June) by thanking carers across the county who went above and beyond to provide care every day to the county’s vulnerable adults. Shared lives schemes support adults with learning disabilities, mental health problems or other needs that make it harder for them to live on their own. There are many different types of Shared Lives carers, some carers live with the person they care for full time, some offer short breaks for days or weeks or are day time support for a one-to-one basis or groups. Throughout the past year our Shared Lives carers have continued to provide meaningful activities to the people they care for. These have helped to create a sense of routine and develop people’s independent living skills, as well as support their health and wellbeing. To find out more about becoming a Shared Lives carers contact the Shared Lives Team on sharedlives@leics.gov.uk or call 0116 305 8133 or visit www. leicestershire.gov.uk/shared-lives-service Children asked to draw their memories of Loughborough Market and Fair Children have been given the exciting opportunity to create drawings based on the historic fair and market – which will take pride of place in a display on the front of Loughborough Library to celebrate the milestone anniversary later this year. The first fair was held in Loughborough on 31st July 1221 to mark the feast day of St Peter. It was in the same year that a charter to hold a market in Loughborough was granted to the Lord of the Manor. Both a market and a fair have taken place in some form in Loughborough since that date. Themed events are taking place throughout the year to celebrate the anniversary, including exhibitions at Charnwood Museum, Loughborough Library and Loughborough Town Hall. The My Magical Market, My Fantastical For! Project is a partnership between Leicestershire County Council and Charnwood Borough Council, with Loughborough Local Studies Volunteers leading on the historical research. At the time of going to press a ball of heat hangs in the sky sustaining warm rays over our land and didn’t it change our whole demeanour, we flourished, we blossomed, our heads went up like flowers which are also looking good in gardens around Shepshed. existing roads, designed for the needs of yesteryear, can continue to absorb an unlimited number of vehicles. Impact on the town’s roads is not one we wish to contemplate. The plan sets out how the borough will meet increased Government targets for new homes, as well as providing employment land and infrastructure. The Charnwood Local Plan 2021-37: Identifies 154 hectares of employment land to support the creation of 8,900 jobs in the borough lead its pandemic recovery. It meets the borough’s housing need – the target figure set by Government – by allocating land for development of 1,111 homes each year up to 2037. A 1,000-acre site west of Belton The building of a new town of nearly 6,000 homes in the heart of the countryside is being touted. A 1,000-acre site west of Belton in North West Leicestershire has been proposed for potential development. Belton at the moment just have 350 homes in the whole parish. This proposal will have implications for Belton, Shepshed and Osgathorpe. £17 million on Deal investment confirmed for Loughborough Loughborough has secured a massive £17 million package of Government funding to boost skills, jobs and the local economy. The deal represents one of the biggest single public sector investments in the town and its communities for many years. With funding from other sources, the Loughborough Town Deal will bring in tens of millions of pounds of investment to the town. Projects within the bid are eligible for support and work is now being undertaken to prioritise them. Some of the projects are: Bedford Square Riverside Regeneration, Careers and Enterprise Hub, College digital skills hub, east-west smart sustainable transport corridor, developer accelerator, creative industries and community arts hub, a new locomotive works, education centre & museum for Loughborough, Taylor’s saving the last major bell foundry in Britain a Wood Brook flood risk management scheme. Initial Proposals for the 2023 Boundary Review is now published The Boundary Commission or England (BCE) has published its initial proposals for new constituency boundaries. The Commission is required to ensure that the number of electors in each constituency is more equal, in doing so, the number of constituencies in England will increase from 533 to 543. The final recommendations to go to Parliament by July 2023. Just fewer than 10% of existing constituencies in England would remain unchanged in the first major overhaul of boundaries since 2010.
Planning applications refused P/21/0876/2 – 11A New Walks – certificate of lawful (proposed) development for single storey rear extension – the reason for refuse was that it needs full planning permission (P/94/2019/2)
Melton and Syston to become a new seat in Leicestershire. The return of Rutland and Stamford, previously a constituency back in 1983. Erewash renamed as Ilkeston and Long Eaton. Glenfields moved into Leicester West. Kimberley added to Nottingham North. South Leicestershire to become Blaby, Oadby and Wigston. Charnwood renamed as Mid-Leicestershire Shepshed will remain in Loughborough
Charnwood Local Plan The local plan was considered by Cabinet on 10th June and discussed at a meeting of the Full Council on 21st June. The plan will now go out to consultation and we ask that residents of Shepshed take their time to look at it and comment. Representations will be collected by the council and heard by the inspector.
Freedom of the Borough proposed for Leicester City FC The proposal was considered by Councillors on June 21st to grant the FA Cup winning Leicester City FC to grant the club the Freedom of the Borough. The Local Government Act 1972 allows the Council to confer the title of Honorary Freeman on “persons who have, in the opinion of the Council have rendered eminent services to the Borough”.
The problem your 4 Borough Cllrs have is, if we do not have a local plan, which should give us a five year housing supply, we will get piece meal developments anywhere.
The Honour, the highest the Council can bestow would recognise the club’s incredible success in recent years and its connection to Charnwood. An extraordinary meeting of the Council will be held in September. Councillor contact details
The proposals are for 19,461 more homes in Charnwood over the next 16 years; this includes a further 1,878 for Shepshed. As of 31st March 2021, there were 453 dwellings with planning approval for Shepshed which have yet to be built. This means that there will be over 2,300 more dwellings. A new school is proposed but there is no mention of surgeries, improvements to existing surgeries, sports facilities or infrastructure. We are concerned that
