Cash For Your Community!

Leicestershire County Council has made available £15,000 this year to the Bradgate, Rothley, Mountsorrel and Birstall Area Forum for local communities to invest in local improvements of their choice. The Community Forum Budget is not a regular grant programme. A vital part of the Community Forum Budget process is that everyone has an opportunity to contribute, whether by submitting a project, making comments on proposals, volunteering to assist in the development or delivery of a project or by voting for their favourite projects.

Charnwood conservatories specialise in the remodelling of existing conservatories. We start by removing the existing roof covering and running in new structural elements to the roof where necessary.

Community groups can now put forward project proposals, ideas for which they are seeking funding, until 30th May 2013. All proposals will then be made available on the forum’s website so residents can view and comment on them, and will benefit from advice by a panel of experts, including further sources of funding. The community groups and other local residents will then come together for a Decision Night on 27th June, to discuss all projects and vote for their favourites.

Beaumont Running Club welcomes new runners – no experience needed. Every spring Beaumont Running Club moves from its winter base in the city out to glorious Bradgate Park, meeting in the car park at Newtown Linford. We make the move on Monday 15th April this year. Whatever your ability we welcome you to join us. We have two levels of entry: Level One: We started a Beginners Group last year – and it has been a huge success. Our qualified leader takes new starters through loosening up and easy jog/walk stages - and helps them build up fitness and confidence until they can jog without stopping for a mile or more. This is a zero-pressure group though - if you still prefer to jog/walk at the end of the seven week course, that's fine. The group is structured so that everyone can develop at their own pace without losing touch. We charge just £2 a session with no minimum number of sessions – just pay as you go. You don't have to join Beaumont Running Club to take part in the Beginners' Group; but you have the option to join as a member at any time – and Club membership increased by 40% in 2012. Level Two: Established runners who have been training alone may be looking for help and motivation. That's what Beaumont Running Club is about - by training in small, friendly groups we help each other's pace and distance. Our membership includes a wide range of abilities - from some of Leicestershire's elite athletes to steady, chatty joggers. We compete (although it is by no means mandatory) in county road races and in cross country events. Training can include structured interval sessions - or evening runs through Bradgate Park and its surrounding countryside. Beaumont Running Club meets at Newtown Linford car park on Mondays and Thursdays (from 15th April - bank holidays excluded). Start times: 6.30pm for beginners, 7pm for the main Club runs. For more information phone/text Andy Burnett on 07765 405794 or go via our website: beaumontrc.co.uk.

It costs just £15 to register and we hope each cyclist will raise additional sponsorship. All money raised will go towards Alex’s Wish (registered charity no: 1148845) – a charity dedicated to finding a cure and more effective treatments for all children living with a muscle-wasting condition Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Emma Hallam – Founder of Alex’s Wish comments “This is a fantastic way to kick-start your fitness regimes ready for spring and is a great way to get outdoors and enjoy the lovely countryside whilst supporting a fantastic cause. We saw nearly 100 cyclists take part last year and we hope to encourage more to join in this year. “100% of all money raised will go towards vital research and trials to help all boys living with Duchenne. It’s a very serious childhood disease that leaves those with it unable to do the simplest of tasks by mid-late teens. By funding new trials we will hopefully bring about new treatments that will delay symptoms by several years or hopefully bring about a cure.“ Yummy free refreshments (home made cakes, sandwiches and drinks) will be available for all cyclists at the finish line. Plus great fun for all the family… anyone under 14 can take part in our free crafts and games provided inside at the Rothley C of E School. We would also like to welcome friends and family to cheer on the cyclists from the start point. We would like to thank our event sponsors Bradleys Superstore and The Woodman’s Stroke – both based in Rothley village. For entry forms please visit www.alexswish.co.uk or call Emma on 07903 349475 or email emma@alexswish.co.uk an event pack including the map of the route and a sponsorship form will be sent to you.

Tennis balls needed to help harvest mice Unwanted tennis balls are needed to help protect harvest mice at Watermead North Country Park. The appeal to the general public to donate the balls has come from country park rangers at Leicestershire County Council who want them to make artificial nests for the tiny mammals at the Wanlip Road location. Recent flooding has flattened areas of the eight-acre Norfolk reed at Watermead where the mice prosper, causing damage to nests and nesting areas. Senior ranger Dale Osborne said: “We want to help the mice in their plight by using the balls as artificial nests. We’ll drill small holes into the balls and they’ll be attached to a post at a height above the reeds. “We need about 200 balls to place within the reed beds over the coming months and we hope the public can help with donations." People interested in helping the unusual homes to be created can bring their unwanted or spare tennis balls to Watermead North off Wanlip Road and deposit them in a container at the main entrance. For more information about Watermead North, visit: www.leics.gov.uk/countryparks There is also a Facebook site at www.facebook.com/watermead, phone 0116 305 5000 or email: countryparks@leics.gov.uk

Annual White Horse Duck Race

Recognition for local 'Young Volunteer of the Year’ A 14 year-old volunteer who helps with the Mountsorrel Railway Project, has been recognised as the Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire’s ‘Young Volunteer of the Year’. He received his award from Lady Gretton at a ‘Young Person of the Year 2013’ ceremony at County Hall on the 11th April.

The Annual White Horse Duck Race’s 5th Year raises money for Birstall United Juniors Football Club. Birstall, Bank Holiday Monday 6th May will be the 5th annual White Horse Duck race, and is set to be the biggest yet.

Daniel Bowler from Mountsorrel has volunteered with the project almost every week continuously over the last three years and is always there at the start of the session and stays till the very end and this is after getting up at 6.30 to do his paper round! He gets stuck in with whatever tasks are thrown at him and often goes home with his clothes, face and hands looking more like he has been down a coal mine than at a railway, a clear sign of a hard day’s graft! Daniel now helps to develop sub-projects behind the scenes, as well as helping on the recognised volunteer sessions. Alongside the heavy, physical work involved with reinstating the railway, Daniel plays an important part in the Project’s “Wildlife Warriors” ecology initiative. Daniel designed the group’s logo and helps his mother Caroline run the Warrior sessions. Children can attend with an adult, with a different focus at each session, and Daniel helps to devise the tasks for each event. He spent his 2012 Easter holidays building over 30 wooden ‘insect-hotels’ to be used by the children at a Warriors’ event. His resourcefulness allowed him to obtain the material needed for these as a donation from a local timber yard's scrap bucket, thus saving the project money. He thrives on helping and bringing enjoyment to other people and his devotion to the group has so far allowed over 150 children to experience and learn about the wildlife around Mountsorrel. In addition, Daniel has helped as a young leader at 1st Mountsorrel Cubs every Wednesday night and goes on camp with them, helping to cook and serve the meals and helping with activities. Not content with that, he also designed their web site and now looks after it, keeping it up to date. Furthermore, he is now a member of Thurmaston Scout Band and gets involved with events and activities at Humphrey Perkins School. Last year he was involved with the school garden, giving up his lunchtimes to work on growing vegetables which are used in the school kitchens. He loves all things technical and loves to be involved in school productions, designing the sound and lighting for shows. It is difficult to calculate precisely how much time he has given to the Mountsorrel Railway Project but it is estimated that he has given not less than 250 hours of his own time in the last 12 months. Also, it is probably true to say that a similar figure could be attached to his volunteering for the project in each of the previous two years. And all of this is before his other volunteering commitments.

Badger Baiting Discovered in the Charnwood Forest The Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust have recently discovered evidence of badger baiting in the Charnwood Forest near Coalville. A badger sett was discovered which had been dug out and then refilled. The disturbed soil contained badger fur which indicated that one or more badgers may have been killed. Badger baiting has been illegal for over 170 years due the horrendous suffering caused to badgers and the dogs used to bait them. Badgers are normally caught in their setts by blocking the exits and then sending a dog in to corner the badger. The baiters dig down to find the badger. This can often mean digging a hole over 6ft deep. Once found the badger is maimed in order to prevent it killing the dogs too quickly. This usually takes the form of breaking the badger's jaw or legs with a shovel. The badger is then thrown back into the hole or taken to a prepared location and one or more dogs are set on it in a fight to the death. A spokesman for the Trust said "This is a shocking discovery. This sort of sick blood sport should not have a place in modern life. Unfortunately the people that do this think that digging a wild animal out of the ground, maiming it and watching it fighting dogs is entertainment. To every sane person this would be deemed to be abhorrent. The types of individuals that do this are serious violent criminals. We would urge people to be vigilant when out in the countryside and to report any suspicious activity to the police." The RSPCA and Police have been contacted and photographic evidence was taken at the scene. The sett in question and those in the surrounding area have been put under regular surveillance and remote cameras will be deployed in the near future. The Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust are asking people to be vigilant and report suspicious activity including: • People carrying spades (sometimes fold away spade in bags or rucksacks) when out walking. • People taking small terrier type dogs near badger setts. Look out for radio collars on the dogs as they use this to locate the dog in the sett. • Any signs of recent digging activity on a badger sett.

I gave an odd-job man a list of 10 things to do around the house, but he only did numbers 1,3,5,7 and 9.

“RIPPLES”

An Annual Community Awards Scheme for Mountsorrel

Local couple provide an annual £1000 fund for a Community Award Dinner in Mountsorrel. Now in its second year, the Mountsorrel ‘RIPPLES’ Awards are once again asking for nominations.

AIM - To celebrate and encourage those in Mountsorrel who, quite simply, 'make Mountsorrel a better place'. It could be anybody, from the person who picks up litter as they walk through the park, to the driving force behind a community or volunteer group. Based on the idea that, with a smile and a thank you, can brighten somebody's day and encourage them to new heights. A simple action can create 'ripples' which will continue to grow and inspire new people. SPONSORS - The scheme is the idea of Ian Shonk who owns Sign Shop & Anne Gregory, who runs Anne Gregory Holistics. They moved into Mountsorrel in 2009 and were looking for a way to 'put something back' into their community. Organising and funding the Annual ‘RIPPLES’ Awards Evening seemed an ideal way to achieve this. AWARDS - Each year, the Awards take the form of a Dinner Awards Evening, with each winner, along with a partner of their choice, being the guests of Ian & Anne. AWARDS EVENING: - To be held at the Slate Restaurant, early in September. It is not intended to be an 'overly flamboyant' black tie do, but simply a pleasant evening, dinner and the chance to mark people's contribution with a small momento in front of a group of like-minded friends. Last year, 16 people enjoyed a drinks reception, followed by dinner, with presentations being handed out during coffee. “Anne & I were so proud to play host to such a great bunch of people” said Ian. Anne commented; “The bonus is that if you put a group of community minded people together in the same room – all sorts of new ideas and contacts get formed – there were conversation all round the table last year, discussing all sorts of ideas” NOMINATIONS - The people who deserve a thank you are always too modest to put themselves forward, so we are looking for nominations from those who know them. Ian explained; “We are not wanting long-winded, complicated submissions – simply a few words explaining who they are, and why they deserve a thank you.” Nominations can be sent to: “Ripples” 5 Wheat Close, Mountsorrel, LE12 7AZ or by email to: ripples.mountsorrel@yahoo.co.uk Nominations for this year's awards close on July 30 2013.

Charity Hoe Down Despite the weather, an enthusiastic audience greeted well known Country and Western duo “Double Barrel” recently (Fri 15th) when they performed at a cabaret evening organised by the Rotary Club of the Soar Valley. Members and guests donned cowboy hat, boots, shirt, jeans etc (some more enthusiastically than others) for a fun evening at the Rothley Centre. Double Barrel were in excellent form, performing their full repertoire of songs and encouraging every one to sing along when they were not dancing. Fuelled by an excellent buffet prepared by Club Vice-‐President Alison Porter and licensed bar, everyone had a great time and the evening raised over £500 for the Club’s charities.

FILMREVIEW Iron Man 3 - Out 25th April

Iron Man 3 is the latest installment in the hit series with explosive effects that take it to the next level. Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) – in his role as Iron Man – is trying to track down and wreak his revenge on those who have tried to destroy him and has ended up against his deadliest enemy yet, the devious Mandarin (Ben Kingsley). But just as important as the battle with the enemy is the battle within and his whole relationship with the Iron Man in the mirror. Iron Man 3 is that rare thing: a highly intelligent movie with plenty of big-bang action.

Scary Movie 5 - 15 Scary Movie V is a delicious Mickey-take on the Paranormal Activity movies with some Black Swan jokes thrown in for good measure. When a young couple brings their newborn baby back to their house, they start to notice some strange things going on and suspect supernatural activity. They install cameras and employ the services of a paranormal expert (who seems to be stealing their stuff) in order to get to the bottom of things before their careers are ruined. Scary Movie V is as mental as you would expect with cameos from the likes of Lindsay Lohan, Heather Locklear and Mike Tyson.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service Unveils State-of-the-Art Fire and Rescue Station in Birstall Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service is proud to announce the opening of its latest fire and rescue station. Crews will be moving into their new state-of-the-art Birstall facility this month (April) which has been built to ensure the communities we serve are provided with an enhanced emergency response. The new fire and rescue station will take over the duties of the station located in Syston and will be staffed with full time firefighters. This will ensure response times to Syston and its surrounding communities are maintained. The project, designed by Architects Pick Everard and built by Bowmer and Kirkland, has been completed on schedule and within the agreed budget. The new station will work under a new duty system, with full time firefighters working 24 hour shifts. The Day Crewing Plus duty system is being introduced at a number of fire and rescue stations across the county to help meet the tighter financial pressures being faced by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service. North Group Manager Kev Pearson said: “This new facility and the change in crewing arrangements will enable us to continue providing the first class service we deliver to the communities of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.”

Portillo Visits Great Central Railway

Politician turned presenter Michael Portillo was at the Great Central Railway on Saturday 13th of April, filming the latest series of his popular "Great British Railway Journeys". First stop on his tour was the beautifully restored Rothley station where he met Richard Patching, GCR’s General Manager, to find out about the history of the preserved line. He also found time to chat with volunteers who help keep the award winning railway open and to meet some surprised fellow passengers and to pose for photographs. He then travelled down to Loughborough Central, behind another celebrity - visiting steam locomotive 'King Edward II' - which appropriately enough is currently sporting a striking blue livery! Kate Tilley, Marketing Manager for the Great Central Railway said, "We were delighted to host Michael at the GCR and he was certainly getting into the spirit of railway preservation, at one point wearing a station masters hat and checking tickets!" The Leicestershire line will feature in the forthcoming series of the programme, expected to be on the air in January 2014.

H.A.T.S. PLAY FOR SPRING 2013

Highcliffe Amateur Theatrical Society are serving up something a little different this Spring. Our next production is The Haunted Cabin by Matthew Lynch and, as the title suggests, it is a ghost story. The show is on stage from 16th to 18th May at the usual venue, Highcliffe School on Greengate Lane, Birstall. Performances start at 7.15pm and the doors open at6.45pm. Haunted by a family from the 1700's, will it be a safe haven for a group of walkers taking refuge from a storm and waiting to be rescued? Thrown together by chance, will they all survive? And, are they all who or what they appear to be? Come and find out and listen out for those mysterious bumps that come from nowhere.

THE MONDAY CLUB ANSTEY. CROPSTON, THURCASTON AND ROTHLEY

On Monday 8th April, fortunately the weather turned for the better and although very cold, sported a great deal of sunshine which encouraged Members to come along to listen to a fascinating illustrated talk about “The History, Creation and Beauty of Glass”. Our Speaker was Mr. Derek Holloway, who had previously spoken to us about the life of Clarice Cliff, the famous pottery creator. Mr. Holloway chose four famous glass creators on which to base the subject i.e. Venetian, Whitefriars, Rene Jules Lalique and John Ditchfield. The history of glass goes back to 3500 BC and has been produced in different forms through each century. The basic ingredients were displayed as a Delia Smith Recipe for easier understanding and were composed of Silicon Sand, Sodium Carbonate, and Calcium Oxide and when mixed, were “cooked” at 2300 or 4172 degrees Fahrenheit or much less with the addition of Sodium Oxide. Variations were mixed to achieve i.e Lead Chrystal to achieve weight and sparkle and further ingredients to achieve light and colour i.e. Iron Oxide for Green and Sulphur for Yellow. Beautiful examples of the above Creators were displayed together with hints and wrinkles on how to recognise the genuine article from the fakes, which present difficulties for recognition for even the Experts!! Mr. Holloway also advised that the removal of labels or any other markings of authenticity, would prove disastrous in the valuation, with the possibility of a loss of a great deal of money to the owner on resale or auction as witnessed on TV programmes such as Antiques Road Show. This was a fascinating talk and the Membership appreciated the depth of details appertaining to the creators, far too many to mention here. As Mr. Holloway has other subjects to share with us, we shall invite his return next year.

SUMMER ART EXHIBITION 2013

LOCAL WAR MEMORIALS War Memorials in many local villages are being researched and documented to ensure that they are not lost to history. Researching the names can prove a difficult task and help is sought on two from the First World War on the Rothley, Cross Green, War Memorial. These men may have Mountsorrel connections and the search needs to be widened. I am seeking help with any information on the following: William Harrison and James Ross William Harrison is on the Cross Green War Memorial as W. Harrison but on the Rothley Parish Church wooden Roll of Honour as William Harrison. On the Memorial in the church Memorial Chapel he is listed at Pte. W. Harrison under the Leicestershire Regiment. In a report of the 30th July 1921 the Leicester Advertiser referred to him as W. Harriman which I can only assume to be a mis-spelling. Sadly, William Harrison is a name that appears many times in the Leicestershire Regiment and there is no clue to which one and any connection with Rothley. James Ross is listed on the Cross Green Memorial as J. Ross but in Rothley Parish Church wooden Roll of Honour as James Ross. On the Memorial in the church Memorial Chapel he is listed as Pte. J. Ross, Rifle Brigade. Research has shown a James Lionel Ross enlisted in Mountsorrel but with an address in Alderley Edge, Cheshire. This James Ross died in Egypt on the 6th March 1918 whilst enlisted in the R.E. 359th Water Boring Company. He cannot be traced as having any connection with the Rothley Ross family.

June 1st & June 2nd - 11am to 5pm (12 on Sunday) METHODIST CHURCH, Main Street, WOODHOUSE EAVES Around 100 original paintings will be on display – most of them will be for sale at very reasonable prices. This will be the Club's 4th Annual Exhibition held in conjunction with the Open Gardens Weekend. Admission is FREE , Refreshments will be available – Homemade cakes – Tea – Coffee – and Cold drinks. Raffle for an Original Painting with the proceeds going to RAINBOWS HOSPICE LOUGHBOROUGH

website: www.charnwooddrawingpaintingclub.com

A great deal of research has been carried out to trace these men but no parish records can be found about the First World War and the work of the Rothley War Memorial sub-committee as part of the Rothley Parish Council. The ABC of Breastfeeding Keeping it in the family… The Charnwood BRAS (Breastfeeding Reassurance And Support) group is hoping the general public will help to spread the word about the benefits of breastfeeding by attending an Advocating Breastfeeding In Charnwood (ABC) workshop. The workshop will help people become an advocate for breastfeeding within the Charnwood area. It will give enough information to ensure attendees are confident in talking about breastfeeding so that more people are aware of the importance of it to the health of babies and their mothers. The event is on Friday 24th May from 10am to midday at Mountsorrel Children’s Centre. It will include common breastfeeding myths and how to dispel them, an honest discussion about the advantages, a look at the science behind breastfeeding and how to direct people to find more information and support if required. Only Charnwood residents are invited (or those who work exclusively in Charnwood) but there are no other restrictions on who can attend. Men and women of all ages are invited, whether they are parents or not. The Charnwood BRAS are hoping that as well as parents and grandparents, those working in childcare, teaching and appropriate health care settings will attend. Liz Blackshaw from Mountsorrel is one of the Charnwood BRAS volunteers who is organising the event. She says “We hope this session helps people become more confident in talking about breastfeeding, not so that they become experts but so they can spread the word so more babies can benefit from breast milk for longer”. To book a place on the workshop, telephone the Charnwood BRAS on 07583 041054. The group also runs antenatal workshops and returning to work sessions. For more details visit www.charnwoodbras.co.uk or find the group on Facebook.

If ever you contact Chris Meynell and Family, that is exactly who you will be dealing with – Chris or a member of his family. Chris and his Wife Kathryn, have been local to Syston and the surrounding areas for over forty years and along with their four children have been very much part of the local community. Not only have many of them worked in Syston for many years, all of them have been active members in the local church, sporting clubs or social organisations. It is because of this strong feeling of family and community along with his vocation of Funeral Director that Chris has taken the step of opening his own business on Wellington Street in the centre of Syston. It is increasingly common for small, local family businesses to be taken over by larger companies or they are simply sold out of the family. With the recent sale of H Towell Funeral Services of Sileby to a national firm, Dignity Funerals Ltd, and G E Gamble & Son of Syston no longer owned by the Gamble family, Chris thought it was the right time to offer his services to the local community. “It is simply down to personal preference. If you prefer to use big supermarkets, franchises or local businesses owned by local residents, the decision is personal. Each type has its own merits and it is not for me to tell you which type is right for you” The benefit of using Chris Meynell & Family Funeral Directors is their devotion, personal pride and long term commitment to the local community. As a Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather Chris is more focused on families – not profits. There are no shareholders to please or head office to answer to. Families are their number one priority. “When you suffer the loss of a family member or friend, it is very comforting to know your funeral director is a member of your community. We endeavour to create a personal relationship which leads to a unique, sensitive service on every occasion. Most people find it easier to deal with people you know and the relaxed, flexibility that comes with that relationship – we feel the same” If you have any queries about the funeral process or profession, please contact Chris Meynell & Family Funeral Directors at 28 Wellington Street, Syston, LE7 2LG. Scouting in Rothley At the end of last term 1st Rothley Scouts held their usual joint meeting of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts at the end of which the District Commissioner, Carol Black, presented The Chief Scout Bronze Award to Rohan Bathia. Rohan is the sixth Beaver to achieve this award in The Rothley Beaver Colony this year. In December Owen Welock and Matthew Welch, who are now Cub Scouts, and Isaac Pinkus-Vickers, Reuben Cuel and Archie Souley also achieved this important acknowledgement of their hard work and commitment. Beavers get this award on completion of all six challenge badges in the Beaver Scout Programme. We now have nearly 80 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts who meet on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings respectively every week. We have a hard working team of volunteer leaders, assistant leaders and occasional helpers in addition to being supported by our parents to ensure that the children and young people have an enjoyable and productive time. Most recently Rothley Beavers won the Charnwood District Football trophy and attended the massive Leicestershire ‘Beaveree’ at Loughborough University in March. We are all off on a District Adventure Day (Beavers) and Camping Weekend (Scouts) on May 18th. We are currently trying to refurbish our charming but dilapidated Scout Hut. If you think you would like to be a leader or assistant or can even offer some help towards our refurbishment in terms of services or donations please contact Leicestershire Scouts (www.leicestershirescouts.org.uk) or the District Commissioner directly on dc@charnwoodscouts.org.uk

Mountsorrel WI Mountsorrel WI met on Thursday 12th April at the Parish Rooms. The speaker was Linda Lonsdale an Image Consultant. The members were fascinated by an insight of how the colours that we wear can affect not only how we look but also how we feel about ourselves. We were also astonished that we generally only wear 15% of our clothes 85% of the time! Maybe a time to look at our wardrobes, Ladies! Apparently we each fall into a category reflecting one of the seasons. One brave volunteer acted as a model and provided a visual example of how colours deemed to be in another season made her look lifeless and sallow whereas the colours within the 'correct' season enhanced her skin tones and made her look so vibrant. An excellent evening all round. The next meeting will be held on 9th March at 7.30pm in the parish rooms. This will be a Resolutions Meeting with no speaker. On 13th June we will be entertained by Wendy Coley who will be telling us about Medical Detection Dogs. All visitors will be very welcome. Please just turn up or for further details contact Alison Aldwinkle on 07517232029

Russians to visit MOUNTSORREL this Spring Five talented Russians singers, the St Petersburg Blagovest Ensemble, will be visiting Leicestershire as part of a UK tour. They will be staying with local hosts and performing a concert at Mountsorrel Methodist Church (LE12 7JB) on Saturday May 18th 2013 commencing at 7pm. Tickets, £6. each are obtainable from Geoff. Wainwright – tel. 0116 237 6979 or e.mail: mountsorrel2310@btinternet.com The ensemble sings unaccompanied, following a rich Russian musical tradition going back a thousand years, but with a modern twist. The programme combines sublime, intensely spiritual Russian Orthodox Church Music with the zest for life and humour of Russian folk songs, and an occasional UK favourite. We are delighted to welcome the ensemble back to Mountsorrel after last year’s successful evening. It is a talented group who sing wonderful music to a professional standard and is sure to give us an evening to remember.
