Kirby Muxloe FC hosts Football League Division One Crewe in friendly An evening of football turned into a party at Kirby Muxloe Village Club when the football team welcomed Crewe Alexandra of Division One for the ceremonial opening of the Andrew Bingham Stand beaside the pitch on Ratby Lane. The opening of the new stand was performed by Jenny Bingham, wife of Andrew, the former Chairman of the Village Club, along with Gary Keenan, current Chairman. Gary welcomed the large crowd, with a special welcome for Crewe Alexandra, the first Football League club ever to play a friendly match at Kirby Muxloe. He included the Chairman of Crewe, John Bowler, two other directors, the manager, assistant manager and head of the club’s famed Academy as well as players including U21 internationals. Mr Bowler told the crowd that he and the club were very pleased to be able to support non-league football at all levels. “There are many similarities between Crewe Alexandra and Kirby Muxloe and we, as a Division One Football League club will continue to support grassroots football: that is where the bedrock of the sport lies.” Within a few minutes of the kick-off Crewe had scored twice and a thrashing looked to be on the cards, but Kirby rallied and, while the visitors scored a third to make the final score 0-3, the Kirby players put up a strong, skillful and enthusiastic resistance. It was a game played in the true spirit of football and Steve Davis, Crewe’s manager, who has taken the club twice successfully to Wembley in recent years, said that if that standard was maintained, Kirby Muxloe would do well in their first season in the United Counties League.
Jenny Bingham, wife of the former Chairman, opens the Andrew Bingham Stand at Kirby Muxloe FC alongside current Kirby Muxloe Sports and Village Club Chairman Gary Keenan.
Attendance was well over 300, the highest for many years. Kirby Muxloe FC Secretary Sean Anderson, who organised the game and the evening, said: “I am grateful to Crewe for supporting the opening of the new stand and making the evening such a success. The event has put Kirby Muxloe FC on the football map and I look forward to seeing many of those who came at future matches. They will be assured of a warm and friendly welcome.”
Help our Hedgehogs DO YOU have a fence around your property? Then how do the local hedgehogs come and go? Now environmentalists are urging home-owners to cut several CD-sized gaps in their fences to help hedgehogs get out and about a bit more - to find more food, and to find a mate. Hedgehog numbers have declined drastically in recent decades. The population is thought to be shrinking by three per cent a year. Hedgehogs are thought to need to cover about a mile a night, but they won’t get far if they can’t get in or out of your garden. The British Hedgehog Preservation Society estimates that from about 30 million hedgehogs in the 1950s, we are now down to well below 1.5 million (the number estimated in the mid-Nineties).

Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile!
It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Michael Parr feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace
the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving people money, although that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer
requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Ratby, Kirby Muxloe & Leicester Forest East areas and Michael is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction
that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends and family of people I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Michael a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

The Kirby Muxloe Local History Group The Kirby Muxloe Local History Group meets generally 6 times a year, and membership is open to all. Visitors are always welcome to all our meetings, which generally take place in St. Bartholomew’s Church Hall, Kirby Muxloe and start at 7.30 pm. Details of the dates of future meetings, together with the topics that will be covered, are shown on the notice board in Kirby Muxloe library as well as on the Group’s web site: www.leicestershirevillages.com/kmlhg. Summaries of some past meetings are also shown on the web site. The visit to Stoneywell Cottage took place on Saturday July 18th.
family fun orienteering continues across the district
Stoneywell was designed in 1899 by Ernest Gimson and has recently been acquired by the National Trust.
Blaby District Council, in partnership with British Orienteering, is offering young people and their parents the chance to enjoy the family friendly events of the Xplorer Navigational Challenge.
The Grade II* listed Stoneywell cottage is the only remaining cottage of its kind in Leicestershire. It’s one of only a small number of notable Arts and Crafts houses in England.
Having started in June and running until 30 October 2015, the educational and fun navigational challenge gives children a sense of adventure as they explore the park to find markers. The challenge involves a healthy mix of physical activity and decision making that the whole family can enjoy together.
As well as the cottage, the gardens, outbuildings and woodland, Stoneywell retains many of its original contents. The next meeting of the History Group will be on Thursday 17th September when Mike Gould will be talking about 'The Early Police Force in Leicestershire'. The History Group are always looking for photographs of people who have lived/worked in the village and events that have taken place in Kirby Muxloe.
Anyone for Badminton? A FRIENDLY local Badminton club requires players for sessions at Groby Community College on Wednesdays between 8pm and 10pm.
A number of community sessions will be taking place across the district at various sites; including Mossdale Meadows, Fosse Meadows, Glen Parva Nature Reserve, Bouskell Park and Countesthorpe College. The orienteering activity involves using a simple map to help find the markers places across the park. Each marker has a fun fact that children will be able to share with their friends. Maps are available for just £1. No experience of map reading is necessary and parents are encouraged to join in on the fun! County Councillors Report Ratby and Groby Division County - Councillor Ozzy O’Shea Tel: 0116 2394 336 or 07808 585 825 - Email ozzyoshea@hotmail.com Across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland there are a number of specialist substance misuse services which vary in size and geographic area; the new service would combine six of these listed below:
Ivanhoe Trail. Finally work has started this week 3rd August to put the final barrier in on the Ivanhoe trail on Taverner Drive in Ratby. There had been complaints from residents that motor cycles were using the trail due to the lack of a barrier this should stop that issue. Also I have had complaints that the horses from the fields between the A46 and the M1 bridge had got out and up to 35 had been running around Ratby. I have been in contact with the police commander and asked for officers to speak with the owners and make sure their livestock are well secured as the horses pose a risk to the public whilst running around the village. I am also concerned with the distress it must be causing to the animals.
Bollards Groby Community College and Brookvale High School. I have worked with Highways officers in order to take measures to protect the students from dangerous parking outside both schools on the main Ratby Road. It would appear that some parents who drop off and pick up their children in their cars, seem to have little or no concern for the student’s safety. The problems exist both in the morning when the children are going to school or exiting the school to go home in the afternoon. I have witnessed this first hand with officers when one lady mounted the pavement and drove up to us asking us to move whilst monitoring the situation. Following this the police attended and monitored the situation warning several motorists that they were committing an offence parking on the pavement and also causing a danger to children. The bollards will give the children a safe 20 metre crossing area.
Have your say on the commissioning of future substance misuse services Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland councils each commission their own substance misuse services. The current contracts come to an end in June 2016 which has provided an opportunity to review our services and look at how we can work together and share resources. Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are proposing to combine a number of the services currently available into one making it easier for people to access the support they need. In order to ensure we can provide the correct support to staff and service users we are consulting on this proposal.

Advanced Fee Scam The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau has been alerted to an Advanced Fee Scam whereby mainly persons of Asian descent are targeted by the suspects who cold call the victim, purporting to be from the Home Office UK Visa and Immigration department, and inform them that a case has been received by the department against the victim, sometimes with a request to deport. A request is then made for money to be paid mainly by Ukash vouchers or MoneyGram. Occasionally, money is requested to be paid into a bank account. Also on occasion, victims have been asked to provide bank account details. A telephone number is given which is a genuine contact number for the Home Office to give the call a form of legitimacy. The UK Visa and Immigration department would not make any request for payments in this form. Protect yourself: Never respond to any such communication; Any unsolicited contact followed by a request for an advance payment/fee is a good indication that someone is trying to defraud you. Do NOT pay any fees unless you are 100% of what you are paying for!!! Never, ever disclose your bank details.
New Lottery Fraud Scams Be Aware The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) has received intelligence regarding two new Lottery Fraud letters/email attachments (Scam 1 & Scam 2) using the 2016 Rio Olympics as a theme. The scams try to trick people into believing they have won the following: Scam 1: An online lottery prize of £650,000 and a trip to Brazil to watch the Olympics as the recipient’s email address was chosen out of a possible ten million at random. Scam 2: An online lottery prize of £820,000 and a trip to Brazil to watch the Rio Carnival and the Olympics as the recipient’s winning numbers 8 17 34 38 42 and 51 were selected. In order to collect the winnings the recipient is requested to contact: Scam 1: Mr Dima Robert MillMan Street, WC1N 3JB. London A5200. Tel: +447035973561 Email: RioOlympics2016@represnetative.com
t: 0800 6446 150 • e: yourlocal@openboxpromotions.co.uk • w: www.openboxpromotions.co.uk
Scam 2: ‘UK Pay out Officer’ Email:paymaster-office@bol.co.br +44 7937428753 Protect yourself from lottery fraud Never respond to any such communication. If you have not entered a lottery then you cannot have won it. Official lotteries in other countries operate in much the same way as the UK’s National Lotto. No official lotteries that we know of contact people to tell them of their win. We do not know of any official lottery operators who ask for fees to collect winnings. Any request for a fee payment is a good indication that someone is trying to defraud you. Never disclose your bank details or pay fees in advance. If they have provided an email address to respond to, be very suspicious of addresses such as @hotmail.com or @yahoo.com or numbers beginning with 07 because these are free to get hold of. Genuine lotteries thrive on publicity. If they ask you to keep your win a secret, it is likely to be a fraud. Many fraudulent lotteries have bad spelling and grammar – see this as a warning that fraudsters are at work.
Student Rental Fraud Seasonal rental fraud is an emerging trend with students looking for suitable accommodation around August, before the start of the new term. Fraudsters use a variety of websites to advertise available properties to rent. Often at attractive rates and convenient locations. Adverts will seem genuine, accompanied by a number of photos and contact information to discuss your interest.
Due to demand, students will often agree to pay upfront fees to secure the property quickly, without viewing the property, only to discover that the fraudster posing as the landlord does not have ownership of the property, or often there are already tenants living there. Protect Yourself • Only use reputable letting companies. • Do some online research such as using Google maps to check the property does exist. • Make an appointment to view the property in person. • Always view the property prior to paying any advance fees. • Look out for warning signs, such as landlords requesting a ‘holding deposit’ due to the property being in high demand. • A landlord will usually conduct some due diligence on any successful applicant. Be wary of handing over cash without the landlord requesting employment or character references. If you believe that you have been a victim of fraud you can report it online http://www. actionfraud.police.uk/report_fraud or by telephone 0300 123 2040. I would like to thank you all for your continued support and remind you that should you need my help or advice, I pride myself on making myself available to residents. Remember I am only a phone call or email away.

Year 6 Production! Year 6 have been working on an end of year production, it has taken 6 long weeks to perfect it. The Production is called ‘Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies.’ it is all about a man called Robin Hood who becomes an outlaw and decides to rob from the rich and give to the poor.
Even though the production has been lots of hard work, Year 6 have enjoyed acting and wearing crazy costumes. The pupils of Year 6 have had lots of words to learn, some of the larger parts have up to 80 lines. Some pupils have Š but even so they have still enjoyed being part of the whole experience. Many different types of songs have had smaller parts in the production been learnt and sung, including people that are really brave singing a solo. A large part of the production is all thanks to the teachers as they have made all our costumes and worked hard on making a back drop. Year 6 are so proud of all their hard work! - By Keira (Earth Class)

Goodbye Year 6!
Š ‹
It is time to bid our current group of Year 6 pupils a fond farewell. They have spent a happy 7 years at Ratby Primary School tackling new challenges, forging lifelong friendships and working extremely hard. Every single teacher will miss your lively personalities and enthusiastic approach to all areas of the curriculum. We are extremely proud of what all of you have achieved and we will miss every single one of you very much.
Kingswood!
Year 6 went to Kingswood on Friday the 12th June it was in Sheffield. The site was huge and the drive was 2 hours long. There were a range of activities like abseiling and raft building. One of my favourite activities was the Œ 3G swing it looks scary but when you get on and do it, it’s great. There were other things like canoeing, zip line and night line. On the first night we had a camp fire; sang songs and roasted marshmallows. On the second night we had a disco and we all danced the night away.

On Wednesday the 8th July, up on the Burroughs field, there was a huge football match. The teachers took on Year 6!! Tensions were running high as pupils turned against their teachers to cheer on Year 6. Mr Cooper scored the only 3 goals and the final score was 3 – 0. The teachers were victorious and very proud of themselves! Despite losing, everyone had a lovely and very funny morning!

KIRBY MUXLOE LIBRARY DO YOU WANT TO HELP SAVE OUR LIBRARY?
Residents will probably be aware that Leicestershire County Council has made significant cuts to its Library Service. They will continue to manage the 16 most-used libraries, and support community groups to manage the 36 other libraries, including Kirby Muxloe Library. If no community group comes forward, the library is likely to close. For the majority of libraries, community groups have now come forward. The first of these libraries will transfer to the community by the end of July. In Kirby Muxloe, the Parish Council had hoped to be able to manage the library. It has now become clear that, for legal reasons, we are currently not able to run the library directly. We will however still be able to support a community-managed library in many ways. Our plan is to form a new Community Group to manage the library with our support. We will need a range of volunteers to come forward. We will need: • People who are happy to be involved in aspects of the management of the library; • People who can help by organising activities, ie reading groups, coffee mornings etc; • People who can help out with checking in/out books etc.
If you value your library and want it to stay open, now is the time to come forward and get involved. Could you please answer the questions on this form and return the completed questionnaire to the Parish Council Office, Station Road, Kirby Muxloe, Leicester LE9 2EN by the 31st August 2015

Rabbits galore at Redgates – pretty new arrivals for you to visit AFTER having only 4 or 5 rabbits at the sanctuary during June and early July, several people have come into Redgate Farm Animal Sanctuary recently, bringing in family pets they can unfortunately no longer look after. At the time of writing we currently have twelve rabbits for re-homing, including 3 bonded pairs we would prefer to be adopted together. They are all beautiful and healthy, some (not all) are neutered, and don’t forget, you would have to take your newly adopted rabbit(s) to the vet for vaccinations and ongoing in the future for checks to claws and teeth. They need medical care and upkeep just like we do! But they make lovely pets and will reward you with their charm and companionship. And these days there are some fantastic rabbit-care websites to help and advise you. If you are interested in any of our ‘Bunnykins’ family, do drop into the sanctuary on Shaw Lane (just beside the A511 near Stanton-under-Bardon). We are open to the public every day of the year except Christmas Day, from 10.00am – 4.00pm. Ratby Parish Council... The Parish Council read with interest the Ratby Library Group’s update in the last issue. However, was rather puzzled to note the details of the costing in respect of running the Library, which could be misleading as stated in the Library Group’s article: “We have been hugely encouraged by the support we have had for our independently financed library which currently cost £25,000 p.a. to run. Local people have pledged significant funding for operation and capital purposes.” Costs On handing the building to the Library Group, staff costs will not be required as these jobs will be carried out by volunteers, therefore the running costs will be reduced to £11,500 p.a. Furthermore, for the first 2 years the library will be 100% subsidised by the County Council and the actual running costs for all utilities will be ZERO! From the 3rd year funding will be tapered down to the 7th year; thereafter all funding will be reviewed. This information was obtained from Leicestershire County Council. Support from the Parish Council – Planning applications The Parish Council did offer ample opportunity for the Library Group to submit the applications and plans but this did not transpire. The Library Group suggested that the £495 required for submission of the planning applications should be given on a ‘tick box’ arrangement which was requested via email. This email contained information of the Library Group’s proposals. At no time did the Council have sight of the planning applications nor the relevant drawings showing the proposals. Council monies are public monies and, as such, no monies are released without official documentation.
The comment regarding Council’s reserves fails to acknowledge the fact that since April 2015, the Parish Council has taken over the grass cutting areas formerly carried out by Leicestershire County Council. This has obviously increased the Council’s expenditure. Residents should also be aware that extensive re-surfacing works have had to be carried out to the MUGA area in Ferndale Park and new wetpour surfacing will also have to be carried out to the Toddler area, also at Ferndale Park. These works have had to be carried out as a result of (i) extensive cracking of existing tarmac on the MUGA and (ii) shrinkage of wetpour under the Toddler area equipment. The suggestion that the Parish Council is unwilling to support the Library Group is unfounded. Had the relevant documentation been submitted, perhaps the result would have been different! Whilst The Library Group is critical of the Parish Council, it should be borne in mind that two Parish Councillors form part of its Management Committee! It appears that some members of this committee are not fully acquainted with all the business, since when questioned at a recent Parish Council meeting, they were unable to answer stating ‘they were not party to certain elements of the arrangements!’ It is hoped that the negative comments will now cease, since it is becoming rather wearing and a considerable waste of time. Having said that, the Parish Council still wishes the group all the best in its venture and would be willing to support in any way it can, providing all relevant information or documentation is submitted, prior to any decision being made.

More parents urged to take up free child care LEICESTERSHIRE families are being urged to find out if they qualify for free child care for their two-year-olds. The call comes as new figures published last week by Ofsted show that 66 per cent of county parents are taking advantage of the offer for two-yearolds – this compares to a national average of 58 per cent. Up to 570 hours of free child care are available for families if they meet certain criteria, and Leicestershire County Council is encouraging mums, dads and carers to use an online checker to see if they’re eligible. It’s thought that there are around 1,800 county youngsters who could benefit. The funding has been provided by the government and is designed to benefit low-income families and help parents return to work. The statistics also reveal that 94 per cent of three and four-year-oldsare using the free child care they’re entitled to, in line with the national figure. Ivan Ould, Leicestershire County Council cabinet member for children and families, said: “Research shows that good quality child care gives youngsters the best possible start in life. “Although nearly two out of three parents are making the most of the funding, we want to increase this and are encouraging people to find out if they meet the criteria.” Parents of two-year-olds can find out if they qualify for by calling 0116 305 6208 or visiting: www.myearly learning.co.uk/ earlyyears/ apply

There should be a will, and there is a way! For some years now, local charity Age UK Leicestershire & Rutland has campaigned to reduce the 7 out of 10 people who die without a will. To that end this year, more than twenty offices of local Solicitors have generously agreed to reduce their Will Writing charges for older people to only £35 + VAT for a single uncomplicated Will. Whilst this is a huge reduction of around £100 with no strings attached, in earlier years some people have chosen to recognise needy local older people by leaving a greatly appreciated legacy to Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland or making a donation, where the need is great especially in these difficult times. The offer is available from 1st September until 31st October. Hundreds of people took advantage of this superb, low - cost deal last year in what proved to be a very successful initiative by the charity. Details are available from 0116 2992233 or www.ageuk.org.uk/leics Commenting, the Executive Director of Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland, Mr Anthony Donovan said, “Most people appreciate that it is extremely important to make a Will, but either never get round to it or continue to put it off on the basis that they are too young and it is something that they will do when they are much older. Unfortunately 7 out of 10 people die without sorting it out, in spite of the clear benefits. By making a Will you take the pressure off those nearest and dearest to you who will receive your money and property, rather than it being left to the rules of law to decide.” “Even if you have made a will, perhaps it was so long ago that it is time to consider whether it needs revising. Don’t miss this opportunity to put matters straight!”
Fosse Park Jobs and Skills Fair Over 400 jobseekers turned out to last year’s event, so the Jobs and Skills Fair is returning to Fosse Park on Wednesday 2nd September. The free event will run on the mezzanine floor above the Food Court in Fosse Park from 11am until 3pm and sets to bring together local employers, job-seekers and support services all under one roof to help local unemployed people into work or training. Councillor Tony Greenwood, portfolio holder for Planning, Economic Development and Housing Strategy at Blaby District Council, said: “Local businesses are encouraged to reserve a place at the event to reap the benefits of extensive event marketing and promotion, a prime location with a high footfall and local networking opportunities. Jobs Fairs are an excellent opportunity to meet your prospective employees in person as well as being a low-cost solution to your recruitment problems.” Blaby District Council, working in partnership with Leicestershire County Council and Job Centre Plus are organising the event hosted by Fosse Park. If you have job vacancies to fill or a training service to provide, contact A.K Khan, Economic Development Officer at Blaby District Council on 0116 272 7765 or email economicdevelopment@blaby.gov.uk to reserve your free space. Places are limited so book early to confirm your place.

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council.
Cllr Chris Boothby Tel 0116 2388301 or 07880 711 222 Email chris.boothby@hotmail.com
Having now been in charge of the Council for approximately 3 months, the Conservative Group are getting to grips with the legacy left by the former Lib Dem administration which includes a very large debt, contracts that were renewed but never signed off and no forward plan to provide further housing stock across the Borough.
This type of development is much needed as people in general are living longer and we have to plan ahead for that and we hope to start as early as April next year. Secondly will be an adaptation of Albion Court in Market Bosworth. This warden controlled complex is very outdated and needs updating but we must be mindful of not distressing its elderly residents. Third will be a large development on Southfield Rd in Hinckley that will provide more stock to accommodate local residents there.
There has to be some hard decisions made to secure front line services for residents and this will come at a cost whilst trying to pay back some of the huge debt over the next four years. The dry recycling contract has had to be re-negotiated with our outside contractors to ensure the continuation of the 2 week collection system.
In Ratby, work is about to start on 13 new homes to the rear of the new Co-op which seems to be a massive success so far and plans are being adjusted to re-develop the old case pack site on Station Rd that will see a further 23 houses that will be 100% affordable. There is a lot to do and we will endeavour to keep you updated in these Borough reports.
Chris, as Lead Member for Housing and Community Safety, is putting together a 5 year development plan to bring forward new Council housing stock and update existing stock such as assisted living accommodation. Together with Ozzy, he has identified three area's that can support new build and adaptation. The first of these is to develop an older person's bungalow scheme in Groby.
Ratby Pharmacy. We have been asked by the Ratby Pharmacy to make residents aware that a company based in Leeds have sent out flyers to residents asking them to change pharmacists. These flyers ask you to sign up so that when you ask for your repeat prescription at the doctors, the prescription is sent electronically to them
and they deliver it 2 days later. Five local surgeries have been targeted including Ratby and Groby. Whilst this company is quite legitimate, residents should be aware that if they sign up their medicines will no longer come to Ratby Pharmacy.
And Finally....... We would like to take this opportunity to welcome to the village John and Lisa Lambley who are the new managers at the Plough Inn Ratby along with new resident chef Dee. They have taken quite a shine to the village as have the locals to them. We wish them every success for the future. We would also like to welcome Dave Landless along with his wife Jan to our village they have taken over the running of the Railway Public House. Dave and Jan come with loads of experience having run the Coach and Horses in Markfield before coming to Ratby. Best wishes to you both. Once again, we would like to take this opportunity to thank residents for their continued support and remind you we are only a phone call away Regards
Chris & Ozzy. Working for you.
Calling all knitters! It’s time to join The Big Knit for Age UK
Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland is calling on nimble-fingered knitters in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland to get creative and knit little hats for Age UK and innocent’s Big Knit to help older people keep warm and well in winter. Now in its 12th year, The Big Knit returns and budding knitters across the UK are being called upon to knit miniature woolly hats to adorn innocent smoothie bottles, which will be sold in stores nationwide from February 2016. For each be-hatted smoothie sold, innocent will donate 25p to help Age UK fund their winter projects. Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland is calling on local knitters to get as many hats as possible to them by the end of November latest to meet their challenging target of 42,000 and needs knitters and those wanting to give it a go to make this a reality. Each winter, one older person dies needlessly every eight minutes because of the cold. With over a decade of support from knitters up and down the country, The Big Knit has raised vital funds to help older people keep warm and well in winter. Last year alone, more than 800,000 hats were lovingly created, with designs including a bird cage, fruit, soldiers, peas in a pod, a bee’s nest, a crown and fishermen with their catch. Peter Ralphs, Business Development Manager at Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland said: “The colder months of the year can be really tough for many older people who can face difficulties protecting themselves from the harsh winter weather, getting out and about and staying connected. That’s why it’s so important that local knitters get behind The Big Knit to help raise funds for vital local winter services. We need our knitters to create lots of miniature hats so we can keep helping older people in the local area.” For more information on The Big Knit contact Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland on 0116 2992233 or log on to http://www.ageuk.org.uk/leics/how-you-can-help/new-fundraising-page/get-knitting-for-the-big-knit-2015/ Completed hats need to reach Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland at Lansdowne House, 113 Princess Road East, Leicester LE1 7LA by 30th November with drop off points are available.
