Robins and Rainbows Update We have completed a couple more challenges since our last update, the first being an open water night swim at Rutland Water, where we donned our wetsuits and swam the 600m course under the stars. It was a beautiful night and amazing experience. On 20th September at 8.31pm the Robins and Rainbows Team set off on a 75km walk in the Peak District. Our mission to complete it within 24 hours! We took a steady pace through the night with the help of a mountain leader to guide the way in the darkness. There was some tough terrain with steep hills to negotiate but by daybreak the team had made good progress covering over half of the mileage and in good spirits despite the lack of sleep! It was a beautiful sunny day and now we had the light with us, we continued to make our way through the stunning Peak District with the cows and sheep cheering us on. At this point we were self-navigating so lots of mulling over the map but we were still making good time.

Adults 50p entry, children free All proceeds to Church Funds

As the day wore on, we were getting more and more tired, we’d been walking for hours with no sleep and were feeling a little like the great unwashed! It became very much a mind over matter mission, legs and feet were wanting to give up but we were all determined to finish it. And at 7.36pm we passed the finish line feeling extremely accomplished. 23 hours of walking, 75km, a few blisters, a bit of blood, a lot of sweat and the odd tear accompanied by lots of laughs, dubious singing and random hallucinations but we did it! A fantastic team effort by all. Thank you to everyone who supported us on the walk and continue to do so throughout the year. Our current fundraising total is now a fantastic £2322! This all goes to Together Against Cancer in memory of Kim Pye. Our next event is a Fashion Show on Friday 15th November at The Royal Oak, Kirby Muxloe, followed by The Rutland 10k night run. If you would like further information on Robins and Rainbows, you can view our Facebook page, Robins & Rainbows or email RobinsRainbows19@gmail.com

Please note that booking is essential and that tickets must be paid for at the time of booking. This month we continue to look at Desford Road, or as it is often referred to “Back Lane”. One of the most important areas on Desford Road is the cemetery. By 1933, it was evident that there was a need for a new burial place in the village, as the church yard was nearing capacity. Originally, a plot of land adjacent to the church was suggested, but after several tests, it was found to have bad drainage and the possibility of running sand. Discussions took place between 1933 and 1935, resulting in the approval by the Ministry of Health of a site of three acres on the opposite side of Desford Road. Mr Furborough was appointed as keeper and grave digger, but he was quite quickly succeeded by Mr D. Smith. The original cemetery was laid out with semi-circular paths, but by 1946, the design had changed to a rectangular grid system, thus allowing for a greater number of burial plots. The cemetery was opened on Monday 19th October 1936. Unfortunately, the weather that day was reported as being “tempestuous”, causing the service of dedication to be held with great difficulty. This was a united service of the Parish Church of St. Bartholomew’s and the Free Church. The Bishop of Leicester conducted the Anglican consecration and Mr W. Mander, B.A., President of the Leicester Free Church Council, gave the address. It was reported that “the United Service of Dedication and Consecration thus formed a very dignified and helpful one, in spite of the inclement conditions”. Mr P.W. Kendall, Chairman of the Parish Council, gave “a most lucid account of proceedings which led to the cemetery opening”. Kirby Muxloe cemetery is very well tended, with short cut grass and plots neatly laid out.

The soil requires constant levelling as there is a spring running underneath the ground. By 1941, as the ground became waterlogged, it became evident that a pump was required to drain away the excess water. This was duly purchased and the condition of the ground improved. The oldest gravestones appear to be sited by the hedgerow, to the left and to the right, when first walking into the area. To the rear of the cemetery, there is an area, originally designated in 1939, for Paupers’ graves. The graves were for people whose family was not in the position to pay for a plot, or for people without relatives. These plots were renamed “Public Assistance Burial Plots”. It is not known if they have ever been used, the area is now thought to be inaccessible. Kirby Muxloe Land Society was formed in 1879, and in 1882, a large area of land stretching from the area we now know as the Reccy to Desford Road was transferred to the Society. Fifteen acres between Hedgerow Lane and Fox Lane were laid out as allotments, with two tracks, taking the names of Pretoria Road and Ladysmith Road. The names remind us of the Boer War and although it was possibly thought that the land would soon be used for building, in fact, this didn’t happen until the 1970’s. We are told that the allotments were not just for growing vegetables but for keeping duck, geese, and hens. Around 1933, it was proposed that new allotments should be established on the opposite side of the road. The new allotments, were to be paid for by the square yard and to contain no sheds or other buildings. The allotments were soon taken up, with Fred Cooper, father of long-time village resident Peter Cooper, being the first man to put his name down requesting a pitch. By 1937, with war becoming more likely, the Parish Council released some empty burial ground for extra allotments and in 1941, more land was released, enabling many villagers to grow their own fruit and vegetables. We now take a look at the role of the village policeman. Do you remember when the

village had its own police house, with the village policeman in residence? Kirby Muxloe was no exception, with the police house being initially on Barwell Road. In the 1930’s, it was moved to 74, Desford Road. The house included the policeman’s office and had a large notice board standing in the front garden. The board was always full of posters, flapping around in the wind. P.C. Kempin will be remembered by many, especially by a number of boys, who were always getting into some sort of trouble (you know who you are!). There are many stories which could be told, but unfortunately, we only have room for one story here. This involves two boys who lived in the village. They decided to climb an old oak tree on Desford Road. The tree was easy to climb as it had previously been requisitioned by the Home Guard as a look-out post and so had metal rings to aid climbing. The boys took an air gun with them and then sat and waited. Before long, they could hear a squeaky bicycle coming along, which they knew belonged to their Sunday School teacher. Not expecting the gun to aim straight, as it had a bend in the barrel, one of the boys fired towards the teacher’s rear. Well, it hit the gentleman and we are told it must have “stung like a bee”. The teacher looked up into the tree and recognised one of the boys, although not the actual one who pulled the trigger, and shouted “I’m fetching the police” ! The boy jumped down from the tree and ran home as fast as he could, in order to confess to his parents before the policeman arrived. As it happened, the incident was not reported to the police, but the boy was well and truly punished. I’m sure someone in the village who is around 92 years of age will remember this story well!! With many thanks to Jan Timson and Peter and Pam Cooper for their help with this article.

are up to the mark in knowledge and understanding and Andrew has been a tower of strength at all times, and especially in getting the computer systems up and running. We have two exciting new developments to tell you about this month, the Local History Cafe and our updated and modernised website. LOCAL HISTORY CAFE - We are really pleased that we have been asked to run a series of Local History Cafes. These are communitybased heritage and well-being get-togethers for over 50s, aimed at tackling social isolation and loneliness. We are working in partnership with Crafting Relationships and Leicestershire County Council, and are the first Library to have been invited to do this. There are seven other Cafes running in the East Midlands, all of them based in museums. Each Cafe meets on five occasions, normally with 10-16 participants. Library volunteers will be hosting the cafes and tea, coffee and cakes will be in plentiful supply. Cafes are two hours long, and the first 20 minutes or so are spent in welcoming participants and sharing any news or events. Outside speakers are chosen by the group based on a local history theme, so the second part of the cafe is taken up with expert speakers who often also bring in items and activities for people to see and engage with, and the opportunity for participants to chat informally with each other, the speakers and our volunteers. Our first series of Cafes starts this month. The dates are 29th October, 26th November, 17th December, 14th January 2020 and 28th January 2020. They will take place on Tuesday mornings, from 10.30 – 12.30 in the Library. So, if you are feeling a bit lonely or isolated, or if you are worried about becoming so in the future, are over 50 and would like to meet new people and learn something about our local history and heritage, do feel free to come along. If you have difficulty in getting to the Library, we have a small budget to help with transport. Each Cafe charges £3 per

participant to help cover costs. You will need to book your place by coming in to the Library, or by ringing the Library on 0116 2387343, or Liz Collinson on 0116 2393332. You will need to complete a booking form, and this can be done either in person or over the phone. We very much look forward to hearing from you! KIRBY MUXLOE LIBRARY AND COMMUNITY HUB WEBSITE - We are extremely fortunate to have on our Steering Group an expert in website design who, along with two other Steering Group members, has redesigned our website to begin to make it truly interactive and exciting. The intention here is to focus on the “Community Hub bit of our name, in the hope and expectation that villagers will feel free to use it for communicating with other villagers. You will be able to advertise forthcoming events, talk about things that matter to you in the village, recommend books that you have read and/or write a review (we especially welcome reviews from children), seek help in finding a lost pet, and so on and so on. And of course there will be information about the Library and its activities. Do have a look and start contributing. If you have anything about the village or events/ changes that would be of interest to anyone in the village – get in touch! If you have any questions at all, please use the contact page on the site and we’ll get right back to you. The website is up and running and the address is https://kirbymuxloelibrary.org GOODBYE AND HELLO! - We are very sad to announce that two members of our Steering Group, Alison and Andrew Smith, are leaving us for pastures new in Scotland. Their help and support has been absolutely invaluable in enabling the transfer from a professionally run Library to a Community Managed Library. Alison has made sure that all our volunteers

We wish them all happiness and success in Glasgow.

At the same time, we have recruited two splendid new Trustees to take their place, Mark Riley and Stephen Haywood. We are singularly fortunate in that Lindsay Prince has also joined the Steering Group. A very warm welcome to them all! AND DON’T FORGET.................. Meet the Authors – On Saturday 2nd November, at 2.00 pm in the Library, Jon Wilkins (editor) and some of the contributors to Exhausting a Place in Leicester will be coming to talk about this new book. As well as the talk, you will be able to discuss the process of creative writing with the authors, get a copy of the book at a reduced price if you wish, and partake of refreshments. There is no charge for this event. Do come along – we look forward to seeing you. AND..........................

Ratby Primary School News.... Year 3 –

Year 1 – Fire Service Visit Year 1 have been very busy this half term meeting some real life Superheroes. We had a visit from our local Fire Fighters and learnt about how they keep people safe. They showed us their equipment and Mrs Denton even got to try it on! We had a tour of the Fire Engine and learnt about all the tools they have to help people. Finally, we got to have a go at using the hose. It was so much fun! Thank you for visiting us!

Mighty Metals Year 3 have had an exciting start to the year with our Mighty Metals topic! We have investigated friction and forces and had fun experimenting with magnets. A highlight this term has been investigating parachutes, learning about air resistance and playing lots of fun games! We have become explanation experts and even designed a new toy.

Year 4 – Condover Hall Year 4 started with much excitement, we were going to Condover Hall! We were all so excited to go to Condover, we packed our suitcases, waved goodbye and were soon on our way. We stopped at the services to have our lunch, then we were off again! When we arrived we went to our rooms and found out who our instructors were. Mrs Astill's group got Dylan and we named him Mr Cool Potato. All of our instructors were fantastic. The first night we gathered around the camp fire, sang songs and roasted marshmallows. The silent disco was on the second night but we think the teachers enjoyed it the most! In the day we tried lots of different activities like buggy building, kayaking, zip wire, abseiling and much more. We had an awesome time, when can we go again?

Harvest Festival 2019 We had a lovely time at the Harvest Festival service this year. Thank you to Rev Bampton for the fantastic service that he gave, we all thoroughly enjoyed it. There was a great attendance by parents/carers of the school (the Church was packed) and the children enjoyed singing their Harvest songs and performing their poems.

Our classrooms now have a gigantic robot in them and we have had great fun creating our own poems about molten metal and robots!

Borough Councillors Report Cllr Ozzy O’Shea Tel: 0116 2394336 or 07808585825 Email: ozzyoshea@hotmail.com

Poundstretcher Planning Application This application came before Planning Committee on the 17th September. The application sought to alter the original permission given in 2008 to extend the permitted days and hours to Monday's to Friday's ( including bank holiday's ) 06.00 to 23.00 , Saturday's 08.00 - 18.00 and Sunday's 09.00 - 13.00. Both Chris & Ozzy spoke to oppose this because of the impact on local residents. Whilst the site itself does not fall within our ward, one of the HGV routes travels along Thornton Lane which is our ward and affects pedestrians, horseback riders, cyclists, car drivers and dog walkers. The other HGV route comes down Bloods Hill and along Desford Road. Numerous accidents have been recorded on both routes and in modern times, neither are fit for purpose and put residents in the way of potential harm with the last accident incidentally right outside the entrance on September 5th. Many protesters attended the meeting which was filmed by Central News. In Ratby, we are seeing a considerable increase in Class 1 HGV's accessing Main St on route to Poundstretcher breaking the 7.5 tonne weight limit. Whilst LCC Highways gave no objection along with Desford Parish Council, it was felt by members of the Planning Committee the Poundstretcher had acted irresponsibly by trying to bypass the planning system. This is because that prior to this meeting, Poundstretcher had agreed to extend the consultation period and even change the application to no extended deliveries at weekends. As soon as the recommendation to refuse was known, Poundstretcher lodged an appeal to the Planning Inspectorate in Bristol for nondetermination by HBBC so therefore, the

Cllr Chris Boothby Tel: 01162 161461 or 07880 711222 Email: chris.boothby@hotmail.com

Planning Committee could not determine the application but still voted on a motion to refuse the application and that will now go forward to the appointed Inspector. Chris also requested, with full support from fellow Members, that HBBC utilize every available asset to fight this appeal and go for Public Enquiry so that residents can have the opportunity to speak. The vote to refuse was unanimous on the grounds of being detrimental to the residential amenity of residents and therefore contrary to Policy DM10. A reason that Ozzy personally gave to the planning officers at Hinckley some 5 months ago after he held a meeting with Highways officers at County Hall. Ozzy was told that was not a justified reason how wrong they were.

County Councillors Report Ratby and Groby Division County - Councillor Ozzy O’Shea Tel: 0116 2394 336 or 07808 585 825 - Email ozzyoshea@hotmail.com

Views sought on major A511 improvements The consultation, which runs until Wednesday 23 October is available to complete online at www.leicestershire.gov.uk/A511-consultation

Improvements to the A511 corridor will not only help congestion and air quality, it will also improve connectivity between the M1 and A42, unlock further homes and jobs in the area and reliability for residents and users of the corridor, alongside improving the resilience of the roads around East Midlands Airport. The consultation and exhibition is your chance to have your say and find out more about this much needed and eagerly anticipated scheme. I hope people take the time to share their thoughts on these exciting proposals. Plans for the A511 growth corridor will see improvements made to nine locations between the A42 Junction 13 at Ashby to the Flying Horse roundabout near junction 22 of the M1, including upgrading a section of Stephenson Way from a single to a dual carriageway. Proposals also include plans to connect the A511 to Bardon Link Road and create a new north-south link across Coalville. To view drawings for these proposals visit www.leicestershire.gov.uk/A511MRN The scheme is the only one in the East Midlands to be submitted for a share of a £3.5 billion Major Roads Network ‘pot’ by Midlands Connect. It will cost an estimated £49m and Midlands Connect is bidding, on Leicestershire’s behalf, for around £42m with the remainder coming from £7m worth of developer contributions. If funding is approved, construction is due to commence in 2022/2023 and expected to be completed by 2025.

Climate Change Leicestershire County Council were one of

16

the earlier Councils to declare a climate emergency back in May. We have since been joined by over half of the UK’s principal authorities, showing that local government is really stepping up to the plate to take the lead in tackling the most serious issue facing society globally today. Since 2008-09, we have reduced our carbon emissions by over 60% and our wider greenhouse gas emissions by 55%.Our recent commitment to become carbon neutral by 2030 puts us as a leading player locally and nationally in taking action on climate change. We are continuing to take forward ambitious projects that will help us meet this commitment and improve the environment of Leicestershire such as investing in a 10MW solar farm at Quorn and in one of the first UK carbon neutral industrial estates. We are also undertaking a comprehensive tree planting programme as part of our recent Tree Management Strategy, developing a plan to reduce emissions from our council vehicles, supporting local small-medium enterprises (SME’s) to reduce their emissions and enabling residents to sign up to affordable green electricity tariffs through Fosse Energy. The challenge for us to meet our carbon neutral target as well as the wider commitment of contributing to keeping global temperature rise to less than 1.5 degrees Celsius is huge. However, we have made an excellent start and I look forward to working in collaboration with others across the public, private and voluntary sectors to meet these challenges so we can ensure a better future for the people of Leicestershire and future generations. Cllr Nick Rushden Leader.

Your Service, Have Your Say Consultation from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue service You may be aware that Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service are running a consultation seeking views on proposals from our Integrated Risk Management Plan. As a past member of the Fire Authority I would ask residents to take part. The consultation is open until 25 November 2019. The proposals are set out in our document, Integrated Risk Management Plan 2020-2024, which includes details of how you can tell us what you think. The document can be viewed and downloaded from leics-fire.gov.uk/IRMP which also contains links to the data supporting the proposals and online questionnaire. These proposals support the view that they should use their staff and fire engines efficiently and effectively in undertaking prevention, protection and response activities, and that their proposed IRMP would provide

them with the flexibility to do this in a way that ensures they maximise the use of these resources. The Service would appreciate your help in sharing the consultation with your friends and colleagues. Sharing and discussing the IRMP consultation and completing the online questionnaire will help them to understand your views on the proposals, and also help them to promote what the Service does in pursuit of their purpose of safer people, safer places. You can find out more about the consultation at leics-fire.gov.uk/IRMP. If you need more information or have any questions, please contact me on the details below or email IRMPconsultation@leics-fire.gov.uk.

What's happening at Ratby Church Message from our Rector - Rev Dr Ed Bampton The historic Church of St Philip & St James, called Ratby Church, was built in four stages from the 13th century to 15th century and restored by Nicholas Joyce in 1881. The church has the most fantastic history and is closely associated with Lady Jane Gray (the 9 day queen) and her family. It was in fact her father who had the church extended to the size it is today. It is a beautiful church and as part of our heritage we work very hard to preserve this building for future generations.

LEXIE EDWARDS WON THE U13 SINGLES, DOUBLES & MIXED! Year 7 student Lexie Edwards from Brookvale Groby Learning Student attended the National Badminton Tournament 1st September at Milton Keynes and WON!!

As a church family it is our privilege to serve many people in many ways, not only through our regular worship, but also in welcoming people through Christenings, weddings, helping people during bereavement and offering comfort and care. We love to welcome children and families to our many activities, including our Young Families Group on Tuesdays and Wacky Wednesday After School Club on Wednesdays, as well as our monthly Community Cinema. We also serve the older members of our community through our monthly Lunch Club and Seniors Cinema, as well as other occasional events. We are at the heart of our community with events such as band and choir concerts, visits from uniformed organisations, school services and much else besides that we are always delighted to host. All this is possible because of the dedicated commitment of time, skills and energy which people bring to our church and also the financial support given week by week. This, aside from occasional fundraising events, is all the money we receive towards our maintenance. While we are as careful as possible with our funds the day to day running of our church add up to a staggering annual running cost of over £41,000. However hard we try, due to the age of the building it is a constant challenge to maintain the buildings fabric and we now have an additional cost of over £51,000 on top of our regular expenditure. We have urgent repairs needed for our Bell tower to keep our bells ringing, as well as general church repairs. We urgently need to seek funds beyond our regular congregation. Through what we believe we can reclaim in VAT and what we are committing from our own limited funds, we have over £14,000 towards the cost, leaving us with some £37,000 to source. We are currently applying for grants, but we are also appealing to our Community to consider helping us to look after our beautiful, historic church. If you would like more information or can help us in any way please contact me on tel: 01162396520 or email: revdredbampton@outlook.com. Blessings to you all,

Ratby Community Library We are at this time on a recruiting drive for volunteers to help in the library, you will find it rewarding meet new people, and chat to the customers you only help out one or two mornings or afternoons or once a week if you want to. We have a thriving cafÊ that at this time sells cakes, crisps as well as a selection of sweets, also all sorts of coffee and tea. Along with a large selection of cold drinks and ice cream, we have plans and now the funds to refit the kitchen and then we will sell toasties and teacakes along with other items. Such as soup and a roll, we are open to ideas of what our customers would like. To volunteer you can call into the library or ring 07929240720. The quiz nights run by Steve Roach are well attended and the next quiz night will be 18th October starts at 19:30 in the library, bring your own alcohol; costs are £2 per person. I recently attended the Stamford Arms in Groby or a very good evening, we had a talk by an ex air ambulance pilot, who told us the work of the air ambulance and they are raising monies to build a helipad at the LRI, and Nottingham Queens Hospital, they are doing this by collecting aluminium cans which are being crushed and bailed at HMP Stockton who are also storing the bails. I was attending the event put on by Bradgate Rotary who have raised funds to give all four local library’s £500-00, we had a good night and it was well attended, I would like to thank the chairman of the rotary, for the monies he gave to us at Ratby Library, it will be used to start on the new kitchen. We are now into the summer reading challenge so get your kids enrolled and get them reading during the holidays, just pop into the library. On September 3rd we received notice that we had been awarded a grant from the national lottery this is to refurbish our kitchen, it will bring it to commercial standard we would like to thank the national lottery fund for the grant, the sum awarded was £9,876.00 let’s hope this will gets us some more volunteers.

Hello Ratby Can anyone tell me why Ratby folk do not support the Ratby library? If you do not use the facilities such as the cafÊ, or room hire you will lose the library we need the monies that the cafÊ and room hire bring in, we have a very good quiz night is which is well attended. You have to bring your own alcohol as we do not have a licence, but if you want cold drinks or coffee we can supply that, if we get a bigger quiz night we may be able to do what Kirby does, and have a fish & chip supper, we need your support. My next gripe, will people who walk dogs please pick up their dog poo, its antisocial I know that today people tend to be that way, but there’s no need for it if your child got an eye problem or some other problem, you would soon be up in arms over it, dog owners please make sure your dog is vaccinated and wormed, your dog needs vaccinating yearly and wormed. I moved to Ratby around seven years ago, I moved here because it is a lovely village, it’s still got three pubs and a selection of shops with a bus service, it has a thriving sports club, with a good village school.

Sweet memories It’s very tempting, every day When in the shop that's down our way To cast your eyes towards the pots and jars of sweets, of which there's lots

Ratby Parish Church on Sunday 20th October at 3pm You are invited to join us in a short service of loving remembrance. At this service we remember those particularly from Ratby and Groby who have died. During the service there will be an opportunity for quiet prayer and reflection. The names of your loved ones will be read out and you will also have the opportunity to light a candle in their memory. the month from 8th October. Colin Udall from the Extend Project said, “We did a short survey with users of the groups about what services young families were looking for and being able to weigh your baby was mentioned by so many parents and grandparents. At the moment you seem to have to wait a long time for an appointment or travel a long way from Groby to get a baby weighed. We felt it was something else we could easily offer.” This is in addition to the “Bumps and Babies” group that has been providing this for some time at St. Peter’s, Glenfield and meets 1:15 – 2:45pm on the 2nd Monday of each month.

If there are people out there that would like to come and help out in anyway please get in touch no matter how small everything is very much appreciated!

Hello everyone and can you believe it’s already October, 2019 is flying by and 2020 is fast approaching which is ironic because we have a clear vision of where we are at and where we are going at the club! Since my last article and the public meeting we held to put everyone in the picture and to tell everyone the position the club was in we have had some great additions to our team, I would like to take the opportunity to welcome Yvonne Murray treasurer, Karen Mangham secretary and Rachel Cockerill entertainment / events manager GIRL POWER!! I can’t thank the ladies enough for offering to come forward and offer their services to help the club stabilise and move forward. One thing the girls bring to our committee apart from a nice smell is energy and enthusiasm and a different perspective on the communities needs it is really exciting to have them on board, with Rachel’s role we will be able to offer better and more varied types of entertainment and events for all the family. Rachel has organised a Halloween Monster’s Ball on the 1st November starting at 7pm, Adults £2.50 Kids Free, prizes will be given for the best dressed and best carved pumpkins so bring them along with you and have some fun with music and games. Keep an eye out for Prize Bingo which we will be introducing to the club very soon and hope to hold this once a month. We have just introduced a Karaoke night we will be having once a month and let’s not forget the Kids Disco’s so plenty to look forward to over the winter months. If the weather continues like it has been we might start a canoeing club talk about April showers! As promised I said I would keep you all updated with the situation the club is in and I would call for another public meeting well the latest is the Police investigation is still on going and after the last public meeting a letter from our Solicitor went out to the receivers lawyers with our own questions and facts and things have gone very quite since!! When there is something more substantial to report then I will call a meeting but there seems little point calling a meeting to say there’s nothing to report. On the sporting front the 1st team cricket finished a very creditable 5th just missing out on promotion and the 2nd team 8th and managing to stay up in a very competitive second string league, well done to all

involved. The Panthers senior side have had a mixed start but after an opening day victory was followed by a heavy loss the lads have won 2 on the spin, the under 13s have made a great start with a 14-0 and 15-2 under their belt already, keep up the good work lads!! The pool season has started and the A team have had an inconsistent start (probably because Mr T isn’t playing) and the B team have been very consistent. Poor!! Bookings for parties are increasing and I urge you not to hesitate in booking with us, I have had to turn people away due to already being booked up on certain dates which is not nice, we are already taking bookings for next year. We have now got an indoor bouncy castle for kids parties, this is suitable for children up to the age of 5 years and is an ideal distraction to keep them entertained in the warm.

I would like to end with one gripe though and that is my daughter was recently in the COOP when she overheard 2 lady’s talking about the awful man from the Sports Club, now my daughter is nosey at the best of times so she radared in pretending to look at how soft the loafs were and heard them discussing the village vegetable show and the reason it was not being held at Ratby Sports Club this year, apparently it was because the man from the RSC (ME) did not want it there any longer which one lady rightly said was disgusting! Well can I put the record straight please, at no point was I approached to discuss the village vegetable show and if I was I certainly would not have said no to it being there, the show has been held at the club for some years now and it is something I was keen to support when I took over, anything to do with bringing the community together young or old can only be beneficial to the club and give us good press and have a chance to have new people come and see what we are about! Sadly this is another example of certain people trying to poison peoples minds in to having negativity around our name, for all the haters keep on hating and we will continue to go about our business in a respectful professional manner trying to provide a place with facilities we can all use and be proud of! Till next time.. Use it Don’t Lose it!

Remember we are your home for sport and all the Premier League, Champions League action is broadcast on our multi screen surround sound system we also show Leicester Tigers games along with lots more sport on sky and Bt sports.

Regards

Garry

We continue to look for new sports and teams to come and use our facilities and become part of our family friendly club and if you would like to get involved please contact me, I still believe to have a Rugby section would be fantastic, we have the space to do it, why not, I think LFE is the nearest and something we as a club would welcome with open arms.
