THE PERFECT WINTER PAIRING
In celebration of the Creation Bordeaux-style blend (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot) this month, our chef Warwick Taylor has created a truly magnificent dish. His grilled quail breast, confit leg, butternut purée, roasted parsnips and king oyster mushrooms is sensational with the 2012 vintage and ideal for a cold winter’s evening in front of a roaring fire. Click here for the recipe. THE BIGGER THE BETTER! There are many reasons why larger bottles of wine are becoming increasingly popular. Apart from being sought-after collector’s items, they make brilliant gifts for family, friends and business associates. But the simplest reason is probably still the best: they make you feel good, and that’s what wine is all about! Although the history of glass bottles stretches back to ancient times, the lack of technology meant that the bottles were extremely fragile and were only rarely used to transport and store wine. It was most often traded in clay amphorae and decanted into glass vessels to be served, and then only on special occasions. Most commonly it was consumed from clay or wooden cups poured straight from the amphora. With the introduction of the coal-burning furnace in the 17th century, hotter temperatures allowed for thicker, more stable bottles to be produced and for the first time glass bottles were used to store and transport wine in large quantities … click here to read more on the blog. The good news is that due to the increased demand for larger format bottles, Creation has released 1.5 litre, 3 litre and 5 litre bottles of our enormously popular Rhône-style blend, the 2012 Creation Syrah, Grenache. What’s more, Creation Wine Club members are offered the opportunity to commission their own big bottles. So if you haven’t joined yet … sign up here. EXCITING NEW RELEASES AND A NEW PAIRING Creation is pleased to announce the release of the Sauvignon Blanc 2014 as well as the Viognier 2014. Both wines have been well received in the Tasting Room over the past few weeks since bottling, and the Viognier will be returning to the Wine Pairing Canapé offering with a brand-new pairing from chef Warwick Taylor: a delectable apple, camembert and prosciutto tartlet. The Creation Sauvignon Blanc 2014 Pale straw yellow in colour with twinkling flashes of green. A superbly balanced wine beckoning with aromas of tropical fruit, elegant elderflower and interesting minerally whiffs. These follow through on the full-bodied palate where crisp, well-integrated acidity adds to the allure and leads to a lingering, memorable aftertaste. Very good with seafood, fromage de chèvre and aubergine.
Buy our wines online here The Creation Viognier 2014 A promising pale gold, clear and shiny in the glass. Abundantly fruity and forthcoming, yet refined on the nose with fragrant white peach aromas mingling with a rich, creamy character. These follow well onto the palate and combine seamlessly with crisp minerality and bouncy, well-integrated acidity. Delicious as an aperitif, or enjoy with creamy pasta and poultry dishes.

Hermanus FynArts 2014 6 – 16 June
From Soweto to Manchester Among the highlights at Hermanus FynArts 2014 will be the performance of the very talented cellist Abel Selaocoe (22). Debuting in 2013, Hermanus FynArts this year offers a bigger, and an even better, programme over ten days, starting on 6 June. Selaocoe was born in Sebokeng, a township near Vanderbijlpark, south of Johannesburg, and now studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England, under Professor Hannah Roberts, the principal cellist of Manchester Camerata. Mary Faure, founder of Hermanus FynArts and also chairperson of Hermanus Tourism, considers the performance of Selaocoe, accompanied by the well-known pianist Jose Dias as a scoop for Hermanus FynArts. Selaocoe will also perform as soloist for the closing matinee concert in celebration of Youth Day (16 June) with the Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, ¨We are indebted to the owners of Sumaridge wine farm for making these concerts possible by funding his travelling expenses. We are thrilled to showcase this young, talented South African cellist who has made the journey from Sebokeng to the UK. The Youth Orchestra is looking forward to play the final concert on Youth Day with him΅ she says. When he was 11 years old, Selaocoe started taking cello lessons in Soweto with Kutlwano Masote as his first teacher. Over the following 11 years his achievements include several scholarships, prizes and awards and solo performances in a number of countries. Selaocoe is also a keen improviser playing in a folk band named Project Jam Sandwich around the UK at various folk festivals. Other scoops on the FynArts 2014 programme include Classical Marimba and Voice with Magdalena (De Vries) and Magdalene (Minnaar); Bovim Ballet; Kyle Shepherd, The 2014 Standard Bank Young Artist for Jazz; the Western Cape Field Band; Richard Cock with Lloyd Webber and Friends, a selected and curated exhibition open to all Cape Whale Coast Artists; and the Tollman Bouchard Finlayson Art Competition with a first prize of R30 000. “Including events around The Art of Fine Dining, this is only a small taste of more than 100 items on the FynArts 2014 eclectic programme that caters for a wide array of interests. We are looking forward to staging an event that is moving onward and upward; bigger and better”, Mary concluded. This year's unique art experience in Hermanus spotlights South African visual arts, music, literature, award-winning wines and fine food. Exhibitions of ceramics, paintings, sculpture, glassware and jewelry will be seen in galleries, hotels and special venues in the town centre as well as in tasting rooms and wine farms along the wine route. There will be readings and talks; concerts and recitals; workshops and demonstrations and a wine route shuttle for visitors More information at between the exhibitions and wine tastings at participating wine farms. Hermanus FynArts runs until 16 June and For enquiries contact: www.hermanusfynarts.co.za tickets will be on sale from early April. Our Paleo lifestyle journey has been filled with the most amazing food from various sources. The ease at which I have been able to maintain the lifestyle and achieve the success I have so far is all to do with the food. I as a diabetic have tried unsuccessfully to get my daily sugar readings under control following traditional Diabetic diets, some of which were recommended by professionals both medical and nutritionists. They just did not work and I was pumping more and more insulin every 6 months after each check up. I year later on Paleo I am insulin free, still on oral meds but that will change. My health has never been better and to crown it all I am down 28 kilos. Read my full story on our website Click paleoliving.co.za Food recipes from 4 fantastic bloggers follow on the next pages. Our guesthouse is situated on a pretty little farm in the West Coast region of the Western Cape, halfway between Piketberg and Velddrif, about 180km north of Cape Town. It is nestled in the beautiful valley of Kapteinskloof and is one of the oldest original Homesteads of this area.
