ARA HAYTAYAN solo exhibition
The "BREAKTHROUGH" series of paintings was the result of reconsidering my artistic thoughts. There was a time, when I had tendencies to turn the depicted material into geometrically simple shapes, especially when I was wandering ; what will be left of art or an artist if I deprive them of the story and meanings that are manipulated around their image, because I thought that at this stage, there did not seem to be any part of art that could be meaningless. Whatever simplification or emphasis is applied by the artist, it still seems that it has already been seen or has already been endowed with meanings. By giving up semantic crutches, I strive for simplified forms, I try to find color equivalents and notice the importance of small differences. It is difficult to find an innocent element in art that is not exploited. I try myself in working with the most simple things, I untangle the knots, so that the purely artistic impulse works. What I do is not new, but I do it as my own experience and I believe that even two simple geometric shapes with a certain color have character, posture and missions. Color is biased, line is ambitious, and the meeting point between two surfaces is not safe. Every element, means or intervention is full of content and subconscious description of feelings or shocks that may even be free of the creator's supposition, and go beyond him. To what extent is it possible to work with those elements? What is color? what are the image equivalents of space? In what direction do the shapes depicted on a square move? To what extent is the sight loaded with spectator information able to appear in the neutral zone? Is it possible to overcome the formed aesthetics in order to enter the space of monologue that is related to the visual material? The title "BREAKTHROUGH" was not chosen to become the artistic parallel of the historical moment or the apocalyptic situation in the country. But I cannot rule out the fact that the emotional condensation of the last two years has led to such manifestations of volumes and lines.
