The East Bridge

The 6,8 km long bridge between Sjælland and Sprogø is with its main span on 1.624 meter the second longest hangbridge. The roadway lies on the highest spot 75 m over the sea, therefor the wind conditions plays a big role for the traffic on the brigde. The increase of the bridge is max 2.1 per cent. Ie. somewhat smaller than the largest increases at other Danish roadway sections, which rises to 3.5 percent. The East bridge deck is made of steel, while the two pylons, two anchor blocks and 19 piers are of reinforced concrete. The substructure includes concrete pylons and anchor blocks and piers and abutments. The superstructure of steel include spans and cables. The suspension bridge between the two anchor blocks is approx. 2,700 m long. The suspension bridge consists of the free span between two pylons at 1,624 m, plus the two side spans between pylons and anchor blocks at each of 535 m.

The East Bridge spanning the Great Belt Baltic Channel, which is an international waters up to approx. 60 m deep. Every year more approx. 25,000 ships bridge alignment. It sails around. 95 per cent. under the East Bridge, where the free clearance is 65 m. the East large free span is determined through extensive maneuver simulations for navigation and helps to ensure minimal risk of collision. The eastbridge is the eastern part and the storebæltsbridge and it goes from halsskov on sjælland to sprogø. The bridge consists of four track to road traffic. Under water runs the easttunnel for trains. Despite its size, the East Bridge simply and elegantly shaped. It is, in other words, a successful meeting between form and function. The relationship between the bridge towers, roadway and

pulleys are balanced - both from the sea, from sjĂŚllands side and as you drive across the bridge. Bridge towers height matched by length of the carriageway while the carriageway weak arc matched by cables curvature. By virtue of his lines will bridge a sculpture suspended over the water. Running through the tall bridge towers is at once breathtaking and sublime experience - not unlike stepping into a Gothic cathedral. There exists a harmony between the bridge, sky, sea and light. Today, East Bridge as a symbol of the archipelago Denmark, whose country parts it connects.
