A L ET T E R TO OUR S UPPORTE R S
We will always remember 2019 as the year before the storm, the year before virtual programming became the norm, and social distancing reduced our camp to just 80 campers instead of the usual 150. 2019 was a banner year for our successful service to the children of our island. 1,044 members served, 11 intramural sports offered, and numerous programs in five key areas: the Arts, Health & Wellness, Education & Career Development, Leadership & Life Skills, and Athletics, Fitness & Recreation. Today much has changed, and yet, we continue to thrive. Through these challenging months we have faithfully carried out our mission and put our members first. Every day, we lead, create, collaborate and innovate with our children in mind. Despite the confines of the quarantine, through remote programming, we found ways to be together, apart. At a time when perhaps the children needed us most, we were able to see them, talk with them, and listen to them. Through our virtual programs, the celebration of Daffodil weekend and the Nantucket Public High School graduation, our free meal distribution in partnership with the Community Foundation for Nantucket and Breeze Restaurant, our art kits, YouTube videos and Facebook live screenings, we have been there for our kids. We have never wavered in our commitment and we have used every tool at our disposal. For all that we have achieved, we couldn’t have done it without our partners, donors, trustees and other supporters. We appreciate all you have done to help us weather the additional pressures and uncertainty of the pandemic and its cost. With your help, we will continue to navigate the bumpy and unpredictable terrain of COVID-19 and we will emerge stronger for what we have achieved together. We look forward to the day when 350 children can wander and explore the Club at once, members can sit at the tables in our canteen sharing snacks, and hundreds of people can pile into our gymnasium to watch our championship basketball and soccer games. Until that time, we remain steadfast in our commitment to our members and community. We tip our hat to the resilience and generosity of the children in our care and we thank you for your continued and much needed support.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 17 Honoring
Maureen Orth & Luke Russert
The Tim Russert Summer Groove is the Club’s largest annual fundraiser, and one of the most anticipated fundraising events of the season. Guests enjoy a fantastic evening of wonderful food, fabulous music, non-stop dancing and most importantly, incredible generosity. The funds raised by the Summer Groove go directly towards funding necessary operating expenses, allowing the Club to open its doors to over 1,000 members each year. Tim Russert was a champion of the Club, our community, and was passionate about not only the children of Nantucket, but children and Boys & Girls Club’s everywhere. Each year a member of the Nantucket community who embodies these qualities, is awarded the Tim Russert Spirit of Hope Award. The Club was proud to honor Maureen Orth & Luke Russert as the 2019 Spirit of Hope Award recipient.

O U R PA RT NE R S Living on an isolated island can sometimes bring challenges to the young people of our community, making our job here at the Club even more important. It is our goal to help these kids have the same experiences and resources of those on the mainland, while also embracing the uniqueness of our island. Through our programs and the countless community collaborations we have formed, we are proud to offer our members the chance to experience a variety of activities, which without the Club, would not be possible for them.
