Dear Friends of the Nantucket Boys & Girls Club, As we reflect on the past year, 2018 presented us with the opportunity to continue making a difference in the lives of the children and families on Nantucket. We feel very fortunate our organization remains strong, thanks to everyone who donates time, resources and talent in support of the Nantucket Boys & Girls Club. As the number of our youth members increases, so does our need and appreciation for all those who support our mission of “empowering the youth of Nantucket to reach their full potential”. The Nantucket Boys & Girls Club believes in the core values of integrity, leadership, diversity, respect, inclusion and opportunity. Our hope is that our members leave the Nantucket Boys & Girls Club holding these values close to them, helping them to become positive and productive community citizens, wherever life leads them. On behalf of our children, thank you for empowering them to participate in enriching programs in the arts, athletics, education and recreation while also preparing them for life after the Club. The core values we work to instill will only be rooted in our members if we can continue to hire and retain the very best staff for youth development. Being able to offer affordable housing will ensure the future of Nantucket’s youth. Affordable and safe housing is an escalating struggle the entire community of Nantucket faces, and the Club recognizes that we need to make stable, affordable housing for our youth development staff a priority. Our staff is the foundation of the Club, and without them we would not be able to provide our unique and critical services to over 1,000 members. This is why our Board of Trustees adopted a strategic plan to offer affordable housing to qualified employees by continuing to grow our housing inventory. Along with daily arts and crafts, members are gaining knowledge about visual arts, performing arts, and creative writing. Members showcase their talent throughout the year and summer program.

The 2018 Sam Sylvia Pro-Am Golf Tournament kicked off on Sunday night with a festive cocktail party, held at Sankaty Head Golf Club. The evening gave participants a chance to enjoy light bites and cocktails, while mingling with fellow golfers and friends. A live and silent auction were held helping to raise crucial revenue for the Club and its programs. The tournament took place on Monday morning with a shotgun start at Sankaty Head Golf Club, followed by an award luncheon, also held at Sankaty Head Golf Club.

The Tim Russert Summer Groove is the Club’s largest annual fundraiser, and one of the most anticipated fundraising events of the season. Guests enjoy a fantastic evening of wonderful food, fabulous music, non-stop dancing and most importantly, incredible generosity. The funds raised by the Summer Groove go directly towards funding necessary operating expenses, allowing the Club to open its doors to over 1000 members each year. Tim Russert was a champion of the Club, our community, and was passionate about not only the children of Nantucket, but children and Boys & Girls Club’s everywhere. Each year a member of the Nantucket community who embodies these qualities, is awarded the Tim Russert Spirit of Hope Award. The Club was proud to honor Robert Dane as the 2018 Spirit of Hope Award recipient.

ACK Surf School Artists Association of Nantucket A Safe Place Living on an isolated island can sometimes bring challenges to the young people of our community, making our job here at the Club even more important. It is our goal to help these kids have the same experiences and resources of those on the mainland, while also embracing the uniqueness of our island.
