Constitutional Challenge Date and Certification Vote Now in Sight

National Police Federation Constitutional Challenge Date and Certification Vote Now in Sight We are very pleased to report that, after an often frustrating eight months of delays, the FPSLREB has set a date for the Constitutional challenge brought forth by the QMPMA last December: November 19-23, 2018 have been slated for that hearing (link). Your critical certification vote is planned to proceed ahead of the challenge, as decided by the FPSLREB ruling in April, and we anticipate voting will begin sometime in early September.

The voter’s lists have been provided to the NPF and the QMPMA, without home addresses as suggested by the NPF, and both groups have until August 14 to provide input. The DOJ/RCMP will then have a further week to respond. You will also note that the FPSLREB has requested a list of work email addresses for all eligible voters from the employer. Although the NPF proposed ballots be distributed through ePost, home addresses and work addresses, the DOJ/RCMP argued that creating a list of voters for ePost would take additional time and cause a further delay. We therefore agreed to the use of home addresses and work email in order to expedite this already too-long process. Note: Voting will be on-line. The “ballot” you receive will provide voting instructions including a unique PIN for each member. Any member who is uncomfortable following links on a work computer can easily print or forward that email to their home email address. As you can see, we are nearing the finish line. This is even more reason for all RCMP members to join the NPF. We encourage you to share this email with any colleagues who may still be “on the fence” so they too can stay up to date with developments and add to the strength of our collective voice. We will continue to keep you posted on the certification vote progress and hope you’re enjoying some family time this summer. In the meantime, here are three other things you can do to help. 1. 2.
