Thunderstorms Are So COOL! Have you ever been through
Thunderstorms are dangerous, violent, and can be very destructive. With very severe course you have, everyone thunderstorms the power is has.Can you think of the worst usually knocked out. This can one you have ever been through? and most commonly than not leads to hours of family fun, like It was terrifying wasn't it? Turtkel says that he plans on staying a meteorologist until he finds an even more efficient way of predicting storms. After that he plans of finding something else to work on until he goes crazy over that subject.Apparently he doesn’t plan on retiring any time soon. -Jamie Reed
Indiana Weather! One summer afternoon my family and I were in Monon, Indiana. My mom and my cousin Nikki were in the house and my cousin Samantha and I were outside playing in the driveway. At one moment the sun was shining and it was warm out, then just like that there was a cold wind that stung our skin and the sky got dark like it was about to start pouring down rain. Then out of nowhere a strike of lightning then rain, within five minutes Samantha’s driveway was flooding, not only with rain but also with hail. Thunderstorms are generated naturally from changes in atmospheric temperature. We ran inside and told the adults but by the time they got to the window another strike of lightning hit and in the field across the street a tornado was forming. A tornado forms when cold air and warm air combine in a set pattern: the cold air drops as the warm air rises. When the tornado started to move closer to the house the adults took Samantha and I to the kitchen and told us to sit under the table for a little bit. They ran to get blankets and pillows for us to take a nap while it was happening and while they were grabbing them they looked out the window and it was still moving closer to the house. It didn’t look very big but it could still harm us so we all sat under the table until Samantha and I woke up. After the tornado passed the temperature was about 49-58 degrees fahrenheit. The climate was humid with a chilly breeze. That was the coldest day of the summer, normally it is hot/humid. I haven’t seen a tornado since
then but in the spring it did flood again, the rain was very chilly, like it is every spring/fall. *The different climates in the different seasons occur because Earth is changing its distance from the sun.The jetstream is a band of fast moving air found at high altitudes. Continental Polar air masses have cold temperatures and little moisture. Maritime Tropical air masses have warm temperatures and are rich in moisture. An important characteristic of the Earth's atmosphere is its pressure as it often determines wind and weather patterns across the globe. A low pressure system is an area where the atmospheric pressure is lower than that of the area surrounding it. A high pressure system is an area where the atmospheric pressure is greater than that of the surrounding area.* “Warning:we have news of a flood on I65, if you are watching or listening to this forecast please evacuate the area! We have shelters in the following areas:Lowell, DeMotte, and Shelby. The shelters have all your essentials please bring only what you need! We can fit at least 120 families and 200 people in one shelter. Again in the following areas are shelters:Lowell, Demotte, and Shelby. We have yet to find what the source of the flood. We will keep you updated at the shelters, please everyone stay safe.” *2 hours later* “This just in, the source of the flood has been found! It seems to be the remains of a tsunami, but the flood has been going down.
Everyone may go home in just a little bit, we will announce when it’s safe.” *20 minutes later* “Okay everyone it’s safe everyone may go home now, I hope no one was injured. I hope everyone has a fantastic tomorrow, and thank you for listening to this weather forecast!” *Lake-effect snow is produced in the winter when cold winds move across long expanses of warmer lake water. Lake-effect snow occurs in Chicago and Detroit because they are right by lake michigan. Tropical storms, seasonal flooding, coastal flooding, and tsunamis can all result in flooding in Indiana. The weather for everywhere in the world comes from the troposphere.* *The different climates in the different seasons occur because Earth is changing its distance from the sun.The jet stream is a band of fast moving air found at high altitudes. Blizzard Imagine this, a cold, white blanket of snow gets thrown over your house. What do you do? Where do you go? Are you going to live? Will you be ok? You’re in the middle of a blizzard. The winds outside sound like a tornado. The rush of cold air makes you feel as if you’re in the arctic. Then you realize, you might not have a chance to live. Today we have more information on the blizzard that is hitting Nebraska. We figured out that the cause of this blizzard is all the warm air we’ve been having. You see, blizzards are formed when cold air blows into a mass of warm air. All that warm weather was a bad thing! These fast winds we’ve been having are taking it’s toll. With speeds of up to 35 mph, there are many people who are without a place to stay tonight. According to a young, single mother of three, the blizzard looked like “...a blanket covering her house.” We have asked many people, young, old, dying, and safe, their opinion on the blizzard. They all describe the same thing, “..the sky was a gray, green and it got instantly cold.” Luckily, most of them ran inside. Some weren’t as fortunate. The young man I talked to who survived described the storm as “...it started as soft, fluffy snow but it quickly turned hard. I couldn’t see anything. I noticed that hail was starting to come down, I tried to go inside but my door was covered in snow and I knew it was too late.” According to the forecast, this blizzard is far from over. We have got a days break from the snow but there is another chance for more severe snow tomorrow. The lake effect snow is taking a turn for the worst. We are predicting that tomorrow’s blizzard will last a full three hours. Please everybody, review your emergency blizzard procedures. Emergency Procedures -Do not travel during winter weather unless absolutely necessary. -Dress warm. -Cover all skin. Any uncovered skin will get frostbitten. -Stock emergency supplies (food, water, flashlights, etc.) in case the power goes out. -Be careful with candle, fires, etc. The extreme winds can knock things over and start a large fire. Lake Effect Snow: Heavily localized snowfall. Lakeeffect snow forms in the winter when cold air masses move over warmer lake waters. -Sara Townsley

Monsoons!! Rain is a good thing, right? Luke Bryan sang it. He can’t being lying, right? But can there be such a thing as too much rain? Well imagine this, you’re a farmer and there is non-stop rain. You feel as if you could be going through a hurricane, but it’s not. It’s a monsoon. Soon enough, your plants won’t grow because they’re drowning. What will you do? You’re losing your well-earned money. In Colorado, one of the five North American monsoon areas, there has been a terrible monsoon happening. One of the worst all season. Monsoon season is Late June, early July-September. We are experiencing the summer monsoon season. This is associated with heavy rainfall. The winter monsoon season is the dry season. This summer monsoon season is bringing an especially humid climate. Since we are in the Northern hemisphere, during the summer, the sun is tilted towards our area. Since our area is mostly land, the land absorbs the dry air and the moist air from down south comes to substitute the missing moist air. This event causes monsoons. The high temperatures and dew point of 55 assures us that we are in the middle of a monsoon. We have had over a third of the average rainfall of 37.2 inches and this is only the second day. This monsoon is affecting Arizona greatly. On the negative side, it’s causing power outages to many businesses across the location. But, on the bright side, this constant rainfall is reducing the wildfires. To assure your safety from flooding, electrical damage, and even death, we have gotten some safety tips from the Monsoon Safety Awareness website (the link is below). We recommend; -Put Together a Disaster Supply Kit ◦ Three gallons of water in clean, closed containers for each person and pet ◦ First aid kit ◦ A stock of food that requires no cooking or refrigeration ◦ Portable and working battery-operated radio, flashlights, and extra batteries (Candles and oil lamps are fire hazards) ◦ Necessary medications ◦ Backup power source for life support or other medical equipment that requires electricity to function -Sara Townsley [8]
