From the Hoosiers to you Letter to the Editor This magazine is all about Indiana’s weather, it has information about all the information for the average temperature to information about the seasons. While writing this magazine I learned that Indiana is different from all other states. I also learned a lot about how the seasons work in Indiana. Weather is so important because with out it what would we have in life? We wouldn’t have water, food, shelter, we wouldn’t have life without weather. Editor: Madaline Davis

It was my science teacher 8th grade year that changed my realization on weather for the rest of my life. The first day of school I was walking through the door at school. I was thinking about the weather when I noticed that, here where I live, in Lowell Indiana there isn’t a lot This is a monsoon, of different extreme weather. I then realized that Indiana monsoons mostly happen only has a couple of extreme storms, we have few tornadoes and no hurricanes, or monsoons. The only India and Asia. thing that we have often are thunderstorms, flooding, and blizzards.
This is a weather chart that some weather forecasters use.
When I went into science that day we were talking about Indiana’s weather and climate. Did you know that Indiana is a pretty cold state it’s average temperature is about 49-58 degrees. Our climate here is that the rain is fairly distributed throughout the year although sometimes lack of water happens in the southern parts of Indiana. Our average wind speed is 8 mph and comes from the the shores of lake Michigan. The annual snowfall in Indiana is less then 22 inches, there are also occasional tornadoes but not that many a year. Indiana’s weather comes from the southwest, and from Lake Michigan.

Did you know that we have four seasons here in Indiana, we have summer, winter, fall, and spring. The different temperatures in the season are, in the winter the average temperatures are in the mid thirties, during the summer we have an average temperatures in the low-to-mid eighties. In fall and spring the temperatures fall between the hottest summer temperatures and the coldest temperatures in winter. The temperatures occur like this because Indiana’s location. Lake effect snow, lake effect snow is when you have a warm body of water and cold air. Heat and moisture from the warm lakes rises into the air, then when it cools it turns into snow cloud. In Indiana we do have lake effect snow. Lake effect snow occurs right by the Great Lakes, we have it by the Great Lakes because the lakes are relatively warm. Indiana is a small state but it has a lot of different interesting things that happen with the weather here. Did you know that Indiana is on the top of tornado alley. But Lowell hasn’t had a tornado in two years. Also since 1996 theres been a total of only five deaths due to tornado related injuries. Indiana is not known for hurricanes but we are certainly known for having flooding due to hurricane effects. Did you know that had over 20 thunderstorms in one summer. “Charlie, Charlie!” says Mrs. Carrie “Yes?” I say. “Get off that computer now.” I guess that’s my cue. But in the meantime get to Indiana now! And our next issue in July will be about Ohio’s weather!
