The Wicked Weather
[1]
May- 29-2013 Dear Reader’s, My few friends and I wrote these different articles for our science class and wanted to put them together into a magazine. This magazine will be sure to include three different topic’s, Tornadoes, Indiana weather and hurricanes. The writer who wrote the story of the tornadoes mixed in her own expression’s, feeling’s, thought’s, and personality. She added what she has learned into something she would hear from people. Indiana Weather is one where the writer wrote about blizzards and what he has learned into more of an essay. He also added some important vocabulary words. The other writer wrote about hurricanes and the important facts. So once you wanna figure some information on theses three weather’s well please take a seat and read these articles in our magazine which is called “The Wicked Weather.” Well I have learned that each tornadoes have different colors, shapes, sounds and sizes. It could hit one side of the street and miss the other side. The air masses occur in hot dry places and cold and wet places when the air climate mixes together, could trigger and could form a tornado. A tornado is a powerful column of winds swirling around a center pressure caused by the weight of the atmosphere It looks like a large black funnel hanging down from a storm cloud. The narrow end will move over the earth, whipping back and forth like a tail. A tornado watch defines an area where tornadoes and other kinds of severe weather are likely in the next few hours. If you're in such an area, be alert. A warning means that a tornado has been spotted or that radar that could be a tornado but maybe not. Warnings mean you should head to shelter immediately. That’s all I learned about tornadoes. Well I’ve learned some interesting things from Kody. Well he want’s to be a weatherman. Well I’m joking but his article is like a new’s forecast. It has a lot of information, so if you want to work on a weather report read his. The wind was so strong it felt like a ef4 tornado was near by sometimes. The scariest thing of all there were thunder and lightning flashing all over the place. Well my favorite part is this, the wind was so strong it felt like a ef4 tornado was near by sometimes. The scariest thing of all there were thunder and lightning flashing all over the place. So once you figure out all this information and how this storm work’s you won’t have to be face to face with it. This hurricane story just makes me wanna never stop reading it. I don’t know what he did but it just dragged me in and won’t let me out of it. He added facts like the hurricane striking seasons, the vocabulary are just phenomenal he just uses words I never thought about. This part grabbed me and pulled me in, When I got to my door it was raining no not raining pouring it was acting like it never rained before. When I got inside I had a plan I was going to grab everything I could get to my car and drive away simple and again I was wrong. You’re never wrong when it comes to thinking.

My house before the tornado
The damage of my house after
It was 3:00 in the morning and it was very humid outside. I can hear the wind coming through my window as I had it opened that night it made this sound that kinda sounded like a ghost moan. It was loud and all of a sudden I’ve heard some car sirens going off and saw power lines falling down. I looked out the storm window and just saw the sky having this green tint with all of these clouds rolling around, that just gave it a terrifying look that just knocked me off my feet. So I ran downstairs and I asked my mom what a tornado is and well she told me words I can never understood well she said, “ A tornado is a powerful column of winds swirling around a center pressure caused by the weight of the atmosphere. It look’s like a large black funnel hanging down from a storm cloud. The narrow end will move over the earth, whipping back and forth like a tail.” I looked at her and said “Momma I think we better start going for shelter.” She opened the curtains and looked out the window and said “Darling, you're right! Now go find your father and I'’ll get your brother and sister’s.” I looked everywhere for my father, but I couldn’t find him. He left a note on the table by his chair and it read, “Baby girl I know you will be reading this but our safe place is only big enough for four people. I knew it was coming so I left and drove to my mom’s. Just be my big girl and help your mom take the girl’s and your brother to our safe place. So I ran there with my baby sister in my arm’s. My brother he'’s the oldest but no where near the smartest, so I made my mom and my little sister that Jacob is holding run before me. I asked my mom to “take Emily and run.” She said “no child should never get left behind,” I said “no mom family comes first as my dad always taught me.” I screamed “take her and run now!!” She did they where in the safe house so I sprinted for my life and made it. My brother took this horse rope from his room just incase. He tied it to the handle till we know it won'’t come off. I took out this pad lock and put it on the lock hole after he tied all these knots. [5]
Never saw some cars fly well now there are some flying right now.
The formation is the worse part about it. The reason for this is because the mixture of all particles pick up and get stronger
All I heard was a sound of a train it was something I can ever imagine. I heard a loud whooshing sound, like something you would hear off of a waterfall or from an open car window while driving very fast. The sound’s of those trees making that huge thunderclap when it crashed to the ground. I can hear this noise I never wanted to hear. The sound that your hear when you run your nails on a chalkboard. The tornado was driving it’s way threw everything. Pushing everything down like it’s a monster truck and everything are the little car’s. It struck at our safe place making it sound like we're getting broke into. The storm was wild, it blew every little thing we had away, trees, cars, roof’s, houses, shed’s, animal’s and even people. I heard my mom say the storm was provoked. I said big word for a small child so I asked what that word meant she said “honey tell me what is the mood of this storm?” I said “It seems angry. “ But nobody knew the amount of damage it can cause us. That all depend’s on how big the storm is and how fast it’s wind’s are whipping around. The feeling of that tornado gave me the hibigeebies it was just the chills that ran down my spin and it felt like something was crawling up and down my spin. My brother explained to me the different air masses of the wind that affect’s the different tornado development is when the hot and the cold weather mixes together and it looses control and so that is how the tornado could expand. [6]
I thought to myself “You did it! You put your mind to it and put your life in danger to save your family.” I never got a name from that sucker so I’m gonna call him “The Devil That’s Inside.” The reason for that is well because it was like a vacuum cleaner it suck’s thing’s up without knowing what it is. This tornado just took my breath away. My dad was pulling in the driveway from his mom’s house and saw everything torn down to the ground. It just all tumbled to the grounded like there was nothing. Out of the whole neighborhood 50 block’s just more than half of it was destroyed. I wonder who all knew it was coming. We lost power for a few day’s so nobody was abled to get the warning. The thing I never understand was the difference between a tornado warning and a watch well here they are. A tornado watch defines an area where tornadoes and other kinds of severe weather are likely in the next few hours. If you're in such an area, be alert. A warning means that a tornado has been spotted or that radar that could be a tornado but maybe not. Warning’s mean you should head to shelter immediately. Many people didn't make it. They never heard the of the warning but this all happened in Granbury, Texas March 15 2013 6 died 7 went missing and many was injured.

Tornadoes form where warm moist air is trapped underneath a layer of cold and dry air. This instability is upset when the warm bottom layer get’s pushed up either by heating near the ground, or by an influx of cold air. So when it’s hot outside and it rain’s and the next day its cold and dry I suggest you pack up and head somewhere else. So if you wanna take a vacation or a cruise I’ll be sure to make it in the fall or winter. They mostly form between May and July. Sometimes it’s always good to have knowledge of mother nature’s plan’s in your brain because one day, you will be face to face with her. In my opinion tornado is worse then a hurricane, well because it can bounce from one house to another without a plan of the steps. It can hit one side of the street then miss another side and then go somewhere else. We never know what’s going to happen and what time. But sometime’s it strike’s one place jump’s over it and hit it the next day. If you’re not home when this happens keep aware of the local weather forecast’s and listen for watches and warning’s. Having a weather radio in the house is also a good idea. Have a family plan in place so you can quickly find shelter. Basements and storm cellars are the best place to take shelter, but if you don't have either one, head to a bathroom, closet or any other interior rooms away from windows. If you're in a car, get out and head for sturdy shelter or a low, flat spot. Don't take shelter under a bridge, which is highly dangerous because it can fall and crush you. They enjoy the highest elevation they go about 10,000 feet above sea level.

He just took my breath away like no joke. The way the thunder, lightning and rain compounded together just made me shake with fear. The vibration’s that rumbled through the ground made it feel like the earth was caving in all at once. He was standing face to face with me I can feel his eye’s beating on me. I realized from the past tornado’s I’ve seen in (picture or movies) or experienced before that they are all have a different color, size and sound to them. A Tornado can occur at any time, but most often between 3pm and 9pm but this wasn't between any of those times. It was a mixture of different storms it was marvelous but freaky too. I never seen nothing like him before. I swear that the wind of this sucker had should’ve gotten a speeding ticket because that sucker was far beyond the speed limit. “Unbelievable!!” my mom screamed. “Look at our house!! It’s gone.” she said in a high tone. I said, “Mom oh well it’s a house we can get a different one.” “You should just be happy the house was gone and not us!” “Stop worrying and call 911.” I said. She asked me why but then realized that my head was bleeding so later on she did when she was calmed down a little bit. She keep going with all this worrying.

Oh no! We have to find our way out of here as soon as possible before it get’s worse. We finally got our chance to get out of here. Our house is destroyed were going to find our way to a safer state. It’s bizarre how the whole town was empty. It’s like a ghost town now. We got out of texas and went north east for 12-16 hours and ended up in Indiana. We thought we were safe but we were right. Strange how we escaped and didn'’t even pass a single storm like that one. When we stopped and then I looked up and asked “where do they form?” I got a street load of information, Tornadoes can occur almost anywhere in the world, but the United States is the country with the highest frequency of tornadoes. About 1,000 tornadoes hit the United States each year. Twisters strike predominantly along a flat stretch of land from west Texas to North Dakota. The region is ideal for tornadoes, as dry polar air from Canada meet’s warm moist tropical air from the Gulf of Mexico. So I told my mother that we're safe here. It covered the whole state from 1950 to 2012. A week later my mom and dad got in a huge fight over her spending funds. We lost everything in that storm our money, clothes, house, and food. My mom is stressing out because she needs to figure things out. Indiana has barely any jobs open anymore.

EXTREAM INDIANA WEATHER “BLIZZARD” BLIZZARD IN NORTHERN INDIANA
It was pretty nasty when we first got into it, a blizzard had hit and it was a nightmare. But then it turned into a whiteout. It wasn’t a small one either it lasted for a few days now. Indiana never has blizzards like this. Lightning, wind chills and hail surrounded us. The blizzard was so nasty that south west Indiana had canceled school for the next few days. Most of the snow was lake effect snow from lake michigan. The blizzard was nasty so nasty to the point that nobody could go
to the store to restock on food or gas for the generator to keep the cold/ shivering temperature up inside of the house. The temperature outside was so outrageously cold that you could take a cup of hot water and dump that water out into the snow, the water that didn't even get the chance to touch the snow because it froze instantly . The wind chill was so cold it felt like, -25 degrees fahrenheit. The wind was so strong it felt like a ef4 tornado was near by sometimes.
[12]
The scariest thing of all there were thunder and lightning flashing all over the place. It felt like the most kayotic blizzard in the history of mankind. The storm was extremely bad it isn't even imaginable that mother nature could put so much power into a storm like that. The snow was almost 3 feet high and snow drifts were almost 6 feet high. Indiana is never going to forget this blizzard. Why? Well, after the blizzard stopped it was a complete disaster houses were bared and if you opened the door 2ft of snow would most likely fall in. People's basements got a test to see how strong they were from mother nature with lots of them failed. The snow plows had to
wait forever to actually plow the back roads so that didn't allow some people to get anywhere without using a snowmobile to get any where. Lots of people were stuck on the main highways for ever because their cars got buried wall driving down them so then the city's near the highways used snowmobiles to get the people out of their cars to shelter. The only people that really appreciated the blizzard were the towing business and they really didn't like it. So there were not many good outcomes for many people after the blizzard or during. So really all the weather we get in Indiana is rain storms, tornados and blizzards.

“It was September 16, 2004 (which is in the hurricane season which is June 1Nov. 30) it just another hot moist day (which is an element hurricanes) at my houses in Alabama, I was just mowing the grass that day. There have been warnings to leave the area because of hurricane Ivan, which formed by cape verde, but I just ignored the warnings I thought it wouldn't hit me its to far off. I was wrong... Just then the winds started to pick up thats when I realized it was here. I got off my mower without even stopping it later I found out it got thrown into my neighbor’s living room. By the time I got to my house that the side ways winds alone were knocking me down let alone all my neighbor’s lawn gnomes I hated those stupid things. Before I go any farther I just want you to get a picture of these winds, a hurricane can reach up to 74 mph and higher. The one I was running though was 120 mph. When I got to my door it was raining no not raining pouring it was acting like it never rained before. When I got inside I had a plan I was going to grab everything I could get to my car and drive away simple and again I was wrong. Then chunks of hail the size of your fist came crashing through my windows. In the end I found out four of my six windows broke and on top of that the power went out. So I opened my garage door manually and the sheer power of the wind and rain knocked me down luckily my garage door closed. So I ran into my kitchen and hid under the table there I just closed my eyes and held onto the table leg. What felt like hours was just actually minutes when I opened my eyes it was done. So I walked outside to see what was going on. So when I got outside I saw just plain chaos, trees were uprooted, our street turned into a river, houses just mangled by wind and rain. Then there was my house’s back porch or where my back porch was, was just gone and there in its place was a hole about a good five foot in diameter and about 6 foot deep. But during this whole time I looked up at the sky. Sure I could see the sun but there was a circle of black ominous clouds surrounding me about 5 miles away then it hit me I’m in the eye and by the time I got back inside it was back at in I was back in the chaos. Then it was over I was so afraid I wouldn’t move from under my table for hours but finally I moved because I heard a voice calling out” “Hey anyone in there?” “I called Ya coming out. That was my story during hurricane Ivan.” By the end of of hurricane Ivan 121 people died 54 of them from the United States majority were killed by the storm surge. Told by: Bob Person
