Turn your passion for health and fitness into a rewarding career The Nutritional Sciences major at the University of Arizona provides an interdisciplinary approach to learning about food, nutritional therapies, and optimal wellness It will prepare you to launch a career after graduation or to pursue graduate programs in dietetics, nursing, pharmacy, medicine, and other healthcare fields
Upon completion of the Nutritional Sciences major, students will be awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutritional Sciences
Advanced Standing
This Nutritional Sciences major requires students to apply for advanced standing to finish upper division requirements in their degree. Once students have completed the necessary required courses and have a 2.00 requirement cumulative GPA, students are eligible to submit their application for advanced standing. Two Emphases: Dietetics or Nutrition
The Nutritional Sciences major includes two emphases options to choose from: Dietetics and Nutrition Both emphases provide students with a strong foundation in the sciences and a wide variety of nutrition courses The next page provides additional information about the emphases options

Steps to becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)
3 community dietetics, and food service management Many internships offer additional experiences in research, sports nutrition or other areas These additional experiences will vary by internship Students should check each individual internships website to learn about the additional experiences offered DI programs typically last 10 -13 months Programs that offer a master’s degree with the DI can typically last 2-3 years Tuition and fees are charged to attend these programs; the total costs vary between programs 4
PASS THE NATIONAL BOARD EXAMINATION FOR REGISTRATION:
Similar to other health care professions, RDNs must take and pass a national board registration examination to earn the RDN certification The RDN exam is a computer-based exam that covers the content in the three major areas of dietetics: clinical, community, and food service
The registration examination is updated every five years to reflect the information that entry-level dietitians should master after completing a DPD and DI program

Follow your food from farm, to table, to your plate, and discover the complex systems that influence everything you eat The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences have teamed up to offer two specialized undergraduate majors to prepare you to become a leader in food-related policy, sustainable food production, food security, and food as it relates to health
Upon completion of the Nutrition & Food Systems major, students will be awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition & Food Systems.
Culture, economics, policy, marketing, human and environmental health, and food accessibility affect what you eat As a Nutrition and Food Systems major, you'll examine the factors that affect our food systems, including production challenges in an arid desert region, cultural influences that shape cuisine, and the relationships between food security, nutrition, and overall health You'll apply scientific evidence, best practices, and your professional judgment to seek solutions to better manage the food supply chain from production to processing, distribution, consumption, and waste control while preserving our environment and safeguarding human health.
If you choose this degree, you'll graduate equipped to make a difference in a broad range of food-related careers in areas like sustainable food production, food and nutrition policy, food security, and food as it relates to health.

SCHOLARSHIPS
As a College of Agriculture & Life Sciences (CALS) student, you're automatically eligible for nearly 200 scholarships reserved specifically for majors in our college. You don't have to have a perfect GPA either – you could qualify based on your campus and community involvement, personal background and experiences, or career goals. Award amounts vary each year but typically range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars for each scholarship
The application period for CALS scholarships is January – April of each year. CALS scholarships are awarded for the academic year only (fall and spring semester). If you're awarded a scholarship, you'll be asked to write a thank you letter to the generous donor who funded your scholarship

Some faculty can provide research opportunities in their lab, while others may advise the project, but cannot provide direct research opportunities You are encouraged to research the department faculty and contact individuals directly who you are interested in asking to serve as your Honors Thesis Advisor.
