Carry On Rainbow Rowell
9781447299318 I October I £7.99
A note from Rainbow Rowell . . . Hello, and thank you so much for reading my books! I’m really excited to share my next novel with you – it’s called Carry On, and it’s my first full-fledged fantasy. Carry On tells the story of Simon Snow, the worst chosen one who’s even been chosen. At least, that’s what his room-mate, Baz, says – and Baz might be evil and a vampire and a complete git, but he’s usually right about these things. The book starts just as Baz goes missing. Simon is determined to find him, of course. (Simon is determined about a lot of things: getting his girlfriend back, making it through his last year of magic school, saving the world.) You might recognise Simon and Baz from my book Fangirl. But if you don’t, don’t worry about it; this is a standalone adventure. I guess this is my first book you could call an adventure. It’s also a mystery and; more than anything, a love story. It comes out 6 October, and I really hope you’ll give it a chance. All the best,
Fangirl Rainbow Rowell

MINDFULNESS AT THE BOOK FAIR Relaxation, calm and balance aren’t words that many people associate with attending the Frankfurt Book Fair. But with the right set of tools and tricks, it is possible to bring more mindfulness to your time at the fair. Rohan Gunatillake shares five quick and simple techniques to help you do even better in the midst of it all
excited, bored? Just being aware of how you are can bring more balance. And your phone magically becomes a wellbeing device instead of a cause of stress.
Mindful meetings When in your all-important meetings and events, try to take a couple of seconds to notice how your body is. A good way to encourage your mind to be alert and relaxed is to let your body mirror those qualities. Do this by letting your back be relatively straight and your belly nice and open. For an extra boost, at the end of each meeting give yourself a score from 0 – 5 of how present and attentive you were, and see if you can score even better at your next appointment.
Walking breaks The days at the fair can be so busy that finding silence ends up being a pretty hard thing to do. So instead we can use the walks between engagements as a way to reset ourselves. Instead of thinking about what has happened or where you are going next, for a dynamic way to de-stress just put your attention into the physical sensations of what it is like to walk. It can also really help just to slow down your pace a tiny amount. No one will notice, but you definitely will.
Mobile awareness There’s a pretty good chance that you’ll be checking your phone more than a hundred times a day. To see what time it is, where you have to be next, to deal with some urgent emails and check social media to find out what the latest buzz is. Every time you check your phone, take a moment to check in with how you are getting on. Are you relaxed, stressed,
Enjoy successes Everyone comes to Frankfurt wanting to close that deal or make that key connection. If you do manage to get a good result during your time at the fair, then make sure you really feel the success. Enjoy the positive emotions that come about and let your smile brighten the rest of your body. For an extra boost, see if you can even enjoy the success of others. Instead of being jealous or resentful, try celebrating someone else’s success. Do that enough, and Frankfurt can become a real joy!
Find silence Do what you can to find five minutes in your day just for yourself. It could be having a coffee, going outside or just sitting in your hotel room before it all kicks off. When we are at our busiest, just a couple of minutes of silence can have an amazing effect, and so is well worth the investment.

COLOURING
Adult colouring books are aimed at people who want to destress, be more mindful and find an antidote to the always-on digital world. Colouring takes us back to childhood, and the tactile experience of it naturally calms us down. Whether you hate flying and want an activity to lose yourself in, or you can’t sleep, colouring is naturally calming. We relax into a creative space, making choices that don’t really matter but are just fun and creative (red or blue,) as opposed to so much of our day-to-day existence when a lot rides on each and every choice, and we are bombarded with information about how to be the best.
