Introduction INTRODUCTION TO SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES IN 2011

Thank you for taking the time to view our 2011 sponsorship prospectus. 2011 is shaping up to be a big year for Newcastle University Boat Club (NUBC), marking the 50th year since the clubs foundation in 1961. The steady growth the club has experienced over the last couple of years is being reflected by an increase in the number of competitive members and improved participation and performance over the past regatta season. In the coming year we look forward to participating in a number of exciting events including Australian University Championships, to be held in Sydney in September. We also look forward to the reintroduction of the Marathon, an event we have co-hosted with Newcastle Boat Club in the past. In order for the club to continue to grow and be able to take part in these endeavours, we are looking to the community for financial support to help achieve our goals over the coming year.

reflect the clubs growing female membership, which requires oars with smaller handles and lighter boats. We also face considerable expenses in maintaining our existing fleet and turning over equipment to facilitate competition and training at all levels. Contained within this package is an outline of our events and the possible marketing and advertising opportunities they present, as well as an outline of the sponsorship packages we have put together. We are more than willing to discuss any ideas you have, and are happy to be flexible and put together a package that best suits the needs of your business. If you have any questions, or wish to discuss further any details of this prospectus, please do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to your support in 2011. This year NUBC faces a number of large expenses that present considerable challenges for a small club. These include a variety of new equipment purchases to keep pace with the clubs expansion and the needs of our members, including a boat trailer. In the coming year we are also looking to upgrade equipment to

President’s Report Founded in 1961 by Godfrey Tanner, Newcastle University Boat Club (NUBC) represents an important part of the University's history. As a student run club NUBC prides itself on its innovative and fresh approach to rowing. Within this environment students also have the opportunity to enjoy a team sport, gain skills through participation in the running of the club and boat maintenance and maintain balance in university life. In 2011 NUBC is aiming to produce another strong regatta season. The most highly anticipated event on the calendar is Australian University Games, where we encounter immense competition and members invest a great deal of time and effort in preparation. With the event to be held in Sydney this year we are looking to field a strong team and improve upon the solid results achieved in recent years. This year we also hope to continue our success in local competitions run by Central Districts Rowing Association (CDRA), where we consistently perform at a high level and our new rowers often participate in their first races. We plan to compose another strong team to defend our title in the Throsby Gift Relay at CDRA Sprint Championships and retain our hold on a number of titles at the CDRA Championship Regatta, including the men’s and women’s eights and the men’s single scull. Over the past season we have also had a strong presence at a number of

NSW Rowing Association regattas and we aim to strengthen our position in this competition. Each season the club hosts two regattas, which attract competitors and spectators from clubs as far afield as Port Macquarie to Sydney. There is a great opportunity for sponsors to gain exposure at these events. Aside from competition, we are a very active club and hold a number of social events throughout the year. Our trivia night and annual dinner are club favourites and are well attended by club members, family, friends, the rowing community and NUsport dignitaries. In the coming year we are looking to co-host the Marathon with Newcastle Rowing Club and reinstate the Vice-Chancellor’s Regatta. With our continuing growth and increased participation in regional, state and national competitions, there is a great opportunity for sponsors to gain exposure through their support of NUBC.

Overview of Events As you receive this sponsorship prospectus we are coming to the end of the 2010/11 regatta season and are already beginning planning for the 2011/12 season. NOVICE REGATTA

Held in April, our new rowers are given the opportunity to participate in their first race, while experienced crews take to the water to demonstrate how far training and hard work can take them.

50TH ANNIVERSARY DINNER In August we will be holding a dinner at Longworth House in Newcastle to celebrate 50 years of the boat club. We are expecting a large attendance of current rowers and alumni members of the club.Â

MARATHON This year will be a particularly busy one for the club as we work hard to fundraise for the University Games team. We are hosting a range of events, as well as our usual regattas and have included some details to give a better idea of what NUBC does.

This year we are re-introducing a marathon event, which will be co-hosted with Newcastle Boat club. This has been very popular in the past, and is seen as a great introduction to the next racing season.

PRE-IV REGATTA Pre-IV is the first regatta of the Season and is hosted by NUBC in September. This event usually sees a diverse range of rowers competing in over 50 races. The event is attended by not only the majority of CDRA affiliated clubs but also a number of clubs from Sydney and other districts. This regatta represents our warm-up for Australian University Games and we often encounter strong competition from other universities and clubs.

NUBC REGATTA In October NUBC hosts our second regatta. With approximately 50 races and a raft of competitors from the CDRA and other districts, it is always an exciting day.

NUBC ANNUAL DINNER Held at the end of November, this event sees both current and past club members come together to celebrate the successes of the year. It is a time for recognizing the achievements of club members and contributors.
