Newcastle University Boat Club Newsletter, June 2010 University Games Update Preparation for Uni Games, held this year in Perth, is well under way. Crews were recently selected, including a Women's 4+, Women's Lightweight 4x, Women's 8, Men's Lightweight 4+ and various singles competitors. Crews have been training on and off water multiple times a week and hope to increase training as the competition date nears (late September). Being in Perth, this year's Uni Games involves a greater level of organisation and cost. Accommodation has been organised and flights are currently being booked. Plans are underway regarding boat transport/hire and transport in Perth. A number of fundraisers are being organised to lower the cost of competing this year, including Uni BBQ's and the Trivia Night. This year, chocolate box sales are proving to be a very successful way for individuals to reduce their own Uni Games costs (as well as exponentially increase daily chocolate intake). If any club member would like to sell chocolate boxes please contact: Jed.Dickson@gmail.com.

Early morning training

CDRA AGM NUBC members attended the CDRA Annual General Meeting on the 23rd May. Regatta dates for the upcoming season were discussed, with current dates indicating the following dates for NUBC hosted regattas in 2010: Pre I.V. Regatta - 11 September 2010 NUBC Regatta - 23 October 2010 Note them well! The AGM also saw NUBC awarded a plaque for achieving the highest CDRA Sweep-oar Point Score in the past regatta season. Well done, guys!

Trivia Night The date for this year's Trivia Night has been set for Friday the 20th August, at the Bar on the Hill. Last year's event was attended by around 175 people and tickets for this year's event will be on sale very soon. We had some great prizes last year, including a BBQ and a gym membership, and we hope to achieve the same quality of prizes this year, which means approaching business for donations. If anyone was interesting in approaching businesses for donations, or knows anyone who would like to donate a prize, please contact Jed.Dickson@gmail.com or Annelise.Bissett@gmail.com and we can provide you with a formal donation letter.

NUBC Sponsorship Prospectus The NUBC has recently finished drafting a Sponsorship Prospectus Package which is aimed at securing partnerships with businesses that are interested in sponsoring our club. Thanks should especially go to Merran Holmes and Ro Maxwell for their time taken in the development and formatting of the package. The NUBC Sponsorship Prospectus will be available online soon (nubc.info). If you have any questions about this new package please contact Annelise.Bissett@gmail.com. New Equipment The club is currently planning to purchase a new set of sweep-oars which will greatly benefit our female rowers. Planning is also underway to purchase two new (mildly more waterproof) coxboxes.
