LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO 2007 - 2015 BY MONTARAT KASEMSUVAN
INTRO My vision always starts from the big picture which means every individual element that I have created must be able to communicate to each other by complementary design languages. Moreover, every aspect of the site should be able to improve quality of the space especially in challenging conditions. I have learnt that good design philosophy enable the worse condition to be modify into a perfectly spectacular element which is strong enough to be admired long into the future without being amended. “I love challenging myself by creating the relation between forms and space because I believe space is possible to influence people’s emotions.”
• I have had various work experience in Middle East and Asia with particular interested in Modern Contemporary Landscape design, Culture and spatial environmental design. • Diverse experience in Landscape details of 5-7 stars Hotel, resort project in a strongly characteristic place especially Art objects and Ornamental design, also Master planning in broad scale. • I have a License for Professional Architect (The Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage) • Great experienced in visual design theory, space creature, design composition, proportion relate to scale and technique of space illusion. • Proficient knowledge of InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, SketchUp, Auto CAD, Vray, Atlantis and Microsoft Office Package, Hand sketches, AD maker and Watercolour presentation skills. • Motivated, team player, hardworking and eager to receive new experiences. Project : South Marina Bay (Competition, 2012) A refreshment oasis in the heart of the urban district.
Client : Maple tree Investments Pte.,Ltd. Location : South Marina, Singapore Areas : 35,040 sq.m. Program : Landscape concept design competition Status : Be one of the last 2 companies which had been nominated to the final round jury. My Personal Responsibility : After brainstorming the concept, I generated the conceptual idea into the space in every floor plans. (I sketched and designed the whole project but the presentation has done by other colleagues.)
The flourishing green will flow out into neighbouring Central Linear Park and Marina Station Square. Commuters from the MRT station in south-east will be drawn towards the lively green heart which is accommodating at all times of the day. The idea is envisions the landscape to magically compliment the project’s landmark quality and become a new icon for Singapore. The crowning piece of the project will be a proposed halo shaped sculpture, suspended above the rainforest heart above the Sky Garden. Evocative of the buildings’ ribbons; a mountain cloud and in the evenings a glowing disk, the halo will provide much ephemerality to the project (see P2 on next page). The connection between the rainforest and the neighbouring context are at first suggested by the project’s patterned ground-scape. As the grained paving ground reaches the water channel, the paving bursts into large playful splashes of paving. The paving swirls and engulfs mounds of greenery, evocative of a rainforest floor. (see ground floor plan next page) The project’s entrances will form thresholds of beginnings and transport one from the expanse of the city into the project’s natural heart. The main pedestrian entrance will provide the strongest connection between the fluid rainforest to the surrounding urban grid (see P1 on next page). Experientially, the landscape and project combine will be an unfolding narrative reflecting a rich variety of experiences: iconic and intimate, contained and revealed, reflective and soft. overall perspective shows space relation

A halo of mist will cloud the green heart at intervals during the day, eminating a cool environment; a relief from the heat. In the evening, the halo will glow softly illuminating the green-heart beneath. Long fine fibre optic strands with LED tips are discretely threaded from the halo and will transform the night into a wispy sea of dancing lights in the breeze. Misted water will trickle down these threads glistening in the light like a chandelier.

My Personal Responsibility : I was in-charged to integrate a landscape design into the site area by enhancing space and make it more interesting and more effective to the building concept. 5
The competition team consisted of our office director, 2 architects and me as a landscape architect. The concept is creating green open space to the community. We believe that creating natural atmosphere will be an additional way to enhance patient’s immunity from symptoms. The landscape concept creates a dramatically natural atmosphere by proposing the lush green park, the fresh green walls and the core feature which is the round fountain at drop off space. The round fountain is not only a welcomely spacial feature before step in the building but providing a fresh sound to distort vehicle noise. A dramatic look will be created when light gets through the open-ceiling and reflexes into the waterfall so it suddenly becomes a welcome-owner of this place.

Personal Responsibility : full participation of entire design process, leader of construction drawing teams. This project was divided into 4 phases. -
Club house Main entrance and Internal road Retails (Commercial building) Phase 1 and green belt along the beach
This is the large mixed-use project which I fully participated as a senior project landscape architect. My responsibility was to look thoroughly to the design from the beginning concept to the construction drawing. Due to this project consists of high-rise resident, low-rise resident and commercial development. So the area was divided in to 4 phases and my tasks was to accomplish each area one by one over 2 years period. This project provided me an experience to work with a famous international company, Foster and Partner ,The architect of Club house and Retail Building. Moreover this project challenged me to take more concerned about design relationship and the adjacent phases. Not only I have learnt how to carry on the design language but also how to maintain the project’s consistency.

1. Main entrance and Internal Road (2012) The concept inspired from the classical Chinese urban-myth of the wealthy and prosperous land that should be surrounded by mountains and lake. Obviously, the entrance gate was modified to be prominently visual-able and pretended as a landmark by itself.
P2
The free-form curves created friendly space with natural environment to welcome everyone from the main road into our arrival bridge and continue through the road to visit our great land inside. The two curving backdrop-mounds acted like two arms to warmly hug everyone who visited this place.

2. Club House (2012) Regarding the hamonisation between architecture and landscape design, Geometry and linear form were introduced in landscape by creating and enhancing the relationship between building and landscape.
LAY OUT PLAN SCALE 1:1000
The role of Club house will be like a waiting owner who always treats the special guests (in metaphorical way). The visual approach at the first arrival were designed by creating a feature fountain; which pretended like a transparent curtain and by raising an open lawn space to continue the approach directly to the beach also hidden the socialising pool space. An initial key concept was a very nice approach to the beach. The grand walkway from main drop off will interpenetrate through the building to the beach front which was going to be an intimate approach for our guests encouraging them to step out into the landscape scenery outside. 3. Retail and Commercial Building (2014) The emphasis on the symmetrical axis which is inspired from Louis Kahn Project at Salk Institute, San Diego. The idea was trying to link the ocean to be part of our water feature so we introduced the long water channel connecting from the front plaza to the beach plaza as a water cascading to the lower platform. This idea is to illustrate the water from the fountain at front plaza which flows to the sea. This imagination is the sea will become part of our landscape elements but still functionable with shading trees and dining area. Also children can interact with bubble fountain along the channel so it becomes lively to the main feature area.

4. Phase 1 and green belt along the beach (2013)
The concept was trying to create a lush green open space to the community and trying to less prioritize the harsh concrete of the high-rise buildings. The centre courts which were formed by the buildings are irregular shaped so the solution of using free-form shapes were the best for creating a nice visual landform and for making flow-able space. There were a huge underground car-park underneath so the softscape mounds not only help creating soil depth for planting big trees but also provide an interesting space. The overlapping between the mounds themselves can create various layers into the space, also enhance the pathway to be more interesting. A big colourful feature tree was planted individually in the enclosure space to enhance a visual attraction in the main court and be named by the name of the main colourful tree for each court. At the open lawn areas which connected to beach front, there were a formal approach to force the visual axis to the beach. The elements of curving green belt played as two branches to define the entry space from beach road to our project.

Project : Frangipani villas (2014) Client : Muttha Group Location : Goa, India Areas : 9,877.4 sq.m. Program : Residential community Status : Conceptual design to Design development Personal Responsibility : full part of entire design and documentation process This is an exclusive residential community in rural area. The villas are purged on the mountain with various levels up to the landform. The challenges are how to play with the existing level and how to connect the level between landscape area and internal space. This project is the combination between Indian characters and Timeless modernise style. Water is represented as the very important element of the villas. The Indian believes that water will bring the prosperous to the site so water is proposed to be feature elements and to introduce other space. Also the site is already surrounded by rain forest, water is the outstanding form to represent the project identity. What’s more, the sound from water will enhance the natural atmosphere to the community.

Client : SC Asset Location : Bangkok, Thailand Areas : 3,365 sq.m. Program : Luxury condominium Status : Under construction Personal Responsibility : full part of entire design process but the presentation has done by other colleagues. **ecxcept these illustrations which were shown here had been produced by me. Conceptual diagram The luxurious exclusive high-rise condominium in Bangkok centre. The design figure is forced to be very elegant and unique style. However, the site was small and most of the ground area having basement underneath so it was very challenged to design. What’s more, the requirement of LEED platinum certificate and the construction law also important. Black and White are well represented as an attractive appearance so the focal point was defined by black marble cladding on one useful element in the space because of the constrained of small area. so every elements become useful. P1 P2
P1 Explanation of the idea of the feature wall which is arrived from the architectural facade so the unity and sense of belonging were created. P2 My 3D graphic rendering of front elevation shows the composition and the relationship between the entrance feature wall and building.

P6
P4 Due to an unadjustable slab level and infrastructure problem, pool and planting area have to be raised. Also the thickness of the white striped facade have been controlled by the architect. A strong vertical element which can destroyed the facade appearance were not allowed. This is being another reason to support the concept of using contrastive colour for being a feature point of the space.
P6 This pocket garden have the same condition with the roof top swimming pool. All the elements have to be raised up but green shades and garden theme have to be provided. There are very small and narrow space so the composition skill and sense of proportion is important.
Project : Sohar University, Oman (2008) Client : Noel Robinson Architects Location : Sohar, Oman Areas : 196,174 sq.m. Program : Academic design Status : Landscape Conceptual design Personal Responsibility : full part of entire design, presentation process My first project after my university graduation which I fully participated in the whole design concept. The main idea was to represent the highest educational quality to the city but regional culture also needed. The reflection of architecture concept into landscape design concept is very important. The Islamic mood has been crated to every accessible space due to the strongest religion country. The mosque was located at the centre of the site to represent the core of education by creating the grand approach and the shaded corridor of Islamic pattern to the spiritual place which will be appeared by reflecting natural light.

The peacock was interpreted from their characters, beautiful curves and colours into every design elements. Also peacock’s colours have been integrated to planting design concept. The curving lines of their body and the gradient of its colours were represented on the layout plan. Due to an organic form of the space, the freeform elements are the best solution. It also created flowing space and enclosure space. Dramatic atmosphere was translated from the peacock spreading tail-feathers which is appeared as the feature mound at the outdoor dining area. Also it was a feature backdrop that created stunning look and provided softscape area to the project.

Final Thesis : Institute of Modern Art (Since 2006) Location : Nakorn Prathom Suburban, Thailand Areas : 40.4 Acres Program : Academic planning and landscape design which located on a strong characteristic place The design challenge of this programme was not only the ability to design art campus but it was set to combine with the modern art exhibition centre which could have a performance or an art event in every weekend. This site belongs to a Thai eccentric famous artist which the existing sculpture garden was located at the south-west of the site. The element of Mondrian which so-called the symbolic modern art piece was introduced into the design project by using as circulation which connected all the main function spaces to the union core as the heart centred of this project. The idea of contrastive juxtaposition elements between the modern geometric forms and the curving movement of sculptures enhanced those sculptures to be distinguishable, also representing the modern art architecture.

The Public Section: shows a well space transformation from an openspace in arrival plaza to the massive auditorium building (the covered way was proportionally tall due to distorting scale, so it can create the relation space between auditorium hall and exhibition hall very well). The next transition space was designed to be incredibly lower because my intention was trying to create the feeling of space explosion when the existing sculpture garden was the final scene at the end of the corridor so it will surprise you as a freshen spectacular sculpture park. Also the space adjacent to the lower corridor was the sunken outdoor stage as well so it needed to respect the relation of visual-able space.
The Academic Section: shows the everyday transition and the space relation between academic area and the dormitory zone. There was a leisure park along the walkway to provide relaxing and socialising space for students, beside that the memorial Thai kiosk where was used to be a working studio for the famous artist was moved and restored at the plaza and it was become the main focal point for this area to commemorate everyone about the historic site.
