new domestic landscapes

The home has always been the space of reflection of the changes that society, economy and culture cast upon our everyday life. In this last decade, the profound metamorphoses which have been taking place worldwide are deeply affecting our lifestyle and our way of conceiving the domestic space for the future. Within less than 20 years, more than 70% of the world’s population will be living in metropolitan environments, and the domestic space - the home - will become a complex and fragmentary mirror of this global change. Home as a shelter; home as a laboratory and a workplace; home as borderland between private and public worlds; home as a meeting place and a place of solitude; home as the projection of our most hidden desires; home as an ecological resource and a source of solidarity; home as condition in nomadic movement; home just for a few hours, in a place of passage, in other realities. In the history of mankind, the home has always represented one of the starting points of the changes that have subsequently transformed the cities and our daily lives. In the present time, it is necessary to reconsider this topic looking at it from a different perspective, with a curious and experimental attitude, exploring

the innovative and diverse dimensions of domestic living. Home as gravity centre for extensive research, both in terms of space and manufacts (objects, textiles, furnitures, etc.) conceived to bring life into it. It is necessary to reconsider today the basic idea of home, blending together the history of domestic spaces and the cultures of dwelling, their profound and archaic roots, with a positive attitude oriented towards the future and towards the transformations that our cities are currently undergoing. It is necessary to learn how to look at the home as a key entity of the minute transformation process of the city: an ecological, environmental sensitive place; a place for encountering people and for the quiet, silent care of our personal selves; a place for a new kind of work system, for creativity, but at the same time a place that reflects the progressive mutation of the structure of the family, which generates new desires and new requirements. Home as a complex and open system, from the co-housing experiences to the issues of recycling resources and achieving environmental quality. The home, from this point of view, becomes a fragment of a positive and hopeful transformation of the cities where we live.

THE CIRCUS The world as a stage. Nomadic perpetual public performance. The caravan: moving in mass and the minimum movable society. Animals and objects: a list for a complete world’s metaphore.

The best. The worst. The most. Unforgettable. Impossible. Unique. Extreme. Common sense vs. extraordinary. What’s inside the circus. How is it on show. How does it work. How does it move. Where does it go. Who is going to see it. What is to be shown? What is to be remebered? What is astonishing? What is the sense of the out of ordinary? The great collection on show. What kind of structure does such a collection need?

The circus as a blank page.

SHINTO

THE K AMI WAY

THE K AMI WAY

Shinto-The Kami Way is an event installation to be celebrated in Parco Sempione Milan in early September evenings as an Aki Matsuri, the Autumn festival. Five different paths celebrate five different elements of the Shinto rituals: Purification, Offering, Divine Amusement, Prayer, Feast. Each path starts with a torii gate, as the entrance to the Shrine, and ends at the central lake. This represents the shinden, the inner part of the sanctuary where the Kami is invited to dwell. The Kami, the Spirit, is any manifestation of life energy. Amaterasu, the sun goddedss, the most worshipped of the Kami, is here represented by an egg-shaped mirror that reflects light of brightness and purity.

iBELIEVE | SHINTO, THE KAMIWAY | AB

THE PATHS

A path leading to a shrine is called “the approach” (sando). The approach helps the worshipper to move spiritually from the everyday world to a place of holiness and purity. The aesthetics of the ritual can have a powerful emotional and spiritual effect. HARAI SANDO Purification path

NAORAI SANDO Sacred feast path

SHINSEN SANDO Offering path

KAN-NIGIWAI SANDO Divine amusement path

SHRINE STALL

NORITO SANDO Prayer path

NORITO

Omikuji is an official fortune telling document printed on a small sheet of paper purchased with an offering at the Shinto shrines. When the prediction is bad, it is a custom to fold it up and attach it to a pine tree in the temple grounds. In the event of the fortune being good, the bearer should keep it. Ema is a wooden block customized for writing a prayer, which is then tied to an ad hoc scaffold.

The Heiden is the offering Hall, where the worshipper stops before the Sacred Sanctuary. The simple act of devotion is performed by tossing a coin into the offering box, bowing twice deeply, clapping the hands twice at the level of the chest, bowing once more deeply and then again but only slightly before turning away.

This is a publicity in Milan from VivereMilano, sheets of orange paper with a big hole in the middle; the proposal is put this paper around the dog's excrements like caution sign for the pedestrian. Dog toilet :: Produced by a company from Varna, the dog toilet is very easy to use. Take a bag of dog's excrement from the dispenser (capacity of 500 bags), use it like a glove, take the excrement of the floor and put everything in the trash. www.dogtoilet.it

Installed in front of a residence in Augusta in Chicago, the Shit Fountain was created by Jerzy S. Kenar, an artist internationally known for his religious sculptures, who has had enough of people not picking up their dogs excrements of the streets. So he decided to make a monument for the dogs and created a bronze sculpture that perfectly resembles dog excrement.

Should we make the dogs pick up after them selves???

Complex Shit :: a sculpture by the American artist Paul McCarthy.resembling a giant pile of dog turd, has been on display at the Paul Klee Centre in Berne.

When excrements are left on the ground, it eventually finds its way into our natural waterways, contaminating and spoiling the swimming and fishing recreational areas. Current research has shown that dog feces is the one of the major player of this water pollution.

GENERALITIES The pavillion has the actual shape of a dog excrement but its color is pink, so its more visually atractive and shocking. It also has a floral smell, to comunicate to the public how it could be a city without excrements everywhere. The size of the pavillion was determined by the calculation in volume of the amount of excrement produced for dogs in Milan in 1 week, wich is relationed inside, so the expectator can recognice physically the damage that is being done by not picking up after the dogs. Inside the pavillion, it can also be found a proyection that compares the same amount of excrement with several italian articles in diferente sizes so people can have a clear idea and also a posible art exhibition about related topics. The proposed pavilion is positioned in one of the green areas, but can be used in different places in Milan in different times.

hey Jude, listen to him first.

It’s about the interaction with the people and the still pictures. It creates a sort of common feeling between the dead and the existing, by just using visuals and audio. Photos of dead people that can still bring emotions to life through the voice and / or their songs. The same emotion, shared and amplified by the different people that interact with them, will become greater and will be a new experience for the public.

audio and lighting made by using max/msp and arduino.

A realm known for its rich cultural clash and development.

One sweet day, a guardian angel heard a wish from a dude, whoʼd like to please himself in his own realm. Vast developments, made the youngsters from the village migrate to the cities. The old remains in the village. What a pity, if they are abandon and maybe forgotten.
