VOL 3 ISSUE 24 14 December 2009
From the Editor... Welcome to the final issue of the Nursing Post for 2009! Well, firstly our belated congratulations must go to the lovely staff of the Emergency Department over at Mt. Isa Hospital in Queensland for being our front cover winners for Issue 23! We received countless emails identifying the front cover photo, but unfortunately, there could only be one winner, and the first correct submission received was from Robyn, who is the ICU ward clerk at Royal Darwin Hospital...congratulations Robyn, and keep a look out in the post for your special Nursing Post prize pack! We would like to thank all those readers who sent in their emails with the identity of the front cover photo subjects, and who knows, maybe Santa will drop a little something off to you for being such good detectives! Our front cover winners for this issue are the lovely staff from East ward at the Peter James Centre in Victoria. Congratulations to Jo Ross and all involved, and what a timely photo, just in for Christmas (even though it was taken 2007)! Want to see yourself and colleagues on the front cover? It’s simple, just send us your happy snaps, as the competition is ongoing, and remember, even if you don’t end up gracing our front cover, there’s always a chance you may see your photo somewhere in the magazine. Does the idea of winning an exclusive Nursing Post prize pack interest you? Well, all you have to do is send us a touching, funny or informative story that you would like to share with your fellow colleagues throughout the country! Well, with Christmas just around the corner, finances might be getting to be a bit of a worry for you, if this sounds like you, then Quick & Easy Finance might be able to assist you out of a tight spot. Take a look at their advertisement in this issue for further details. We hope you enjoy this issue, and would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our readers, advertisers and contributors for your loyal support throughout the year, and to wish you and your loved ones a very Safe & Merry Christmas, and a Healthy and Prosperous New Year! Well, that’s it for 2009, and we look forward to bringing you more on the Nursing Post in 2010!

Nursing is one of the most ‘portable’ of professions, although it can also be a static one - if you let it. Nurses don’t change their jobs very often, so opportunities for career progression are often limited. But a stint working in the Arabian Gulf can provide the impetus you need to reach goals so difficult at home.
Development of the Gulf’s healthcare systems continues apace, so there are many opportunities for career advancement and the mobile expat population only contributes to this. There are also many opportunities to develop your professional skills base at no or small cost.
