Letter From The
Here we are ... Fall 2010! I love this time of the year and the change in our weather has been fantastic! The humidity has been down, temperatures range from the 60’s at night to the 80’s during the day and the constant afternoon rains have finally stopped. It is a great time to live in the Tampa Bay area! You will notice that this issue says October / November on the mast head ... yes, that’s right. NuYou will no longer be an every month publication. We just haven’t been able to sell enough ads to keep producing the magazine every 30 days. We can’t keep copies on the CVS racks or at distribution outlets because people love the publication! We get numerous hits on our website and tons of praise but we just can’t produce enough income to print every month. We will come out with a new edition every other month and see if we can weather this terrible economy that we are all stuck in. The season ended for our Tampa Bay Rays on a sour note but the team had a very successful season winning the American League East Championship and had the best record in the AL. It’s too bad they lost to the Texas Rangers. The Bucs have surprised everybody and have a winning record through the first quarter of the NFL season and the Tampa Bay Lightning look like they will once again capture the magic that they had a few years ago. Look for the Bolts to have a solid season and make the playoffs come springtime. I want to make sure everybody knows that last month I printed an article that was sent to me by my Fashion Editor Jay Burnett. I managed to give credit to Avatar Photography and all of the models that were pictured in the article, but not the author himself. I thought the article was written by Jay, but in fact it was penned by a man named Ron Romonchuk. Not only am I telling you this in my Publisher letter, but I have reprinted the entire article with Mr. Romonchuk’s byline in this issue. My deepest apologies go out to Mr. Romonchuk! I sincerely hope that everybody has a wonderful Halloween and Thanksgiving. Please don’t eat too much candy or turkey! See you next issue!

THE MAGIC OF HYDROGEN PEROXIDE! by Paul Allen
Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is one amazing oxidizer. It is trusted and used by every hospital and emergency room across the country as a bleach and cleaning agent. Hydrogen peroxide has the ability to kill deadly germs including E.coli, salmonella and the swine flu virus. Hydrogen peroxide was first isolated in 1818 by Dr. Louis Jacques Thenard. It was originally used to bleach pulp and paper but today has many more uses. H2O2 is used to make liniments, rubs, lotions and tonics and is used as a odor remover. Have you ever poured hydrogen peroxide on a cut or scrape? You see it bubble up and help remove bacteria right away. It works by making viruses and bacteria self-destruct on the cellular level, but you have to be careful as it does eat away at good skin tissue as well as bad.
The jury is still out as to hydrogen peroxide’s medical marvels. Some doctors are saying it can help your immune system to function properly and fight infection and disease. Some say that hydrogen peroxide can shrink tumors, treat allergies, fight asthma and diabetes, help with digestive problems, stop migraine headaches and even remove age spots! NuYou isn’t ready to 100% jump on the H2O2 band wagon but we did find a website that sells books on remedies including H202. If you are curious, check out www. jamesdirect.com for more information. Hydrogen peroxide is great for small cuts, disinfecting areas, cleaning, sterilizing and eliminating stains but we are not ready to say it will cure cancer and alzheimers!

HEALTHY TIPS! Cataracts affect more than 22-million Americans and the older you get, the greater your risk! The lens of your eye becomes cloudy and can cause blurry vision, double vision, glare and trouble seeing at night or in low light. Make sure if you have any of these systoms to get a simple eye exam. Treatment for cataracts varies from wearing eyeglasses to surgery.
In a crazy fact ... the Mayor of Parana, Brazil banned the sale of condoms saying that his town needed to increase its population to keep qualifying for federal aid. Local drugstores ignored the ban!
In a study done by the National Center for Health Statistics, Hispanic people in the United States live nearly three years longer than the overall population! At birth, Hispanics can expect to live 80.6 years, that’s about 2.5 years longer than the non-Hispanic white population and about 7.7 years longer than the black segment of the population. There are no scientific facts to support these facts. The overall life expectancy for all Americans is 77.7 years. Since we are approaching the holiday season, here is something you might want to know ... a sweet potato has more fiber than a bowl of oatmeal, more vitamin A than a cup of carrots and more potassium than a banana! The orange potato is also rich in vitamin C, loaded with carotenoids and rather low in calories. Because of these values, a sweet potato can help you control your blood pressure, protect your body against cancer and boost your immune system. Just don’t destroy everything good with tons of butter and sugar! Many fruits release a gas called ethylene that promotes ripening. That’s why if you put apples, peaches or pears in a closed paper bag they will ripen and spoil quicker than if they are left out on the counter or in a basket.
The nonprofit group Nightlight Christian Adoptions has stated that the government’s new guidelines that expand stem cell research will greatly decrease the number of human embryos available for adoption and implantation. Due to that, a federal judge temporarily blocked new government rules that expanded stem cell research. The Obama administration has expanded the number of stem cell groups with private monies. Look for another battle in the court system!
Drugs and alcohol have more significant negative effects on a teenage brain than on an adult brain. The teenage brain is still growing and developing and the abuse of drugs and/or alcohol can interfere with the process. One of the most significant areas affected is the area of the brain that controls judgement. That’s why it’s important for teenagers not to drink or do drugs because what they do when they are young, can effect them their entire lives. South Florida television stations have refused to air a provocative anti-McDonald’s commercial that depicts an overweight man lying in a morgue holding a half-eaten hamburger with a golden arch logo appearing over his feet with the words, “I was lovin’ it”. The ad was created by the Washington DC based, Physicians Committe for Responsible Medicine that promotes vegetarian diets. The ad has garnered more than a million YouTube views.
Being overweight doesn’t mean you’ll automatically get diabetes. In fact, 34 percent of all adults in the USA are considered to be obese! Yet, only 10.7% have some type of diabetes. If you are 50 years of age or above and gain twenty pounds, you are five times likelier to develop the disease.

LOVE IS IN THE HAIR!
by Debi Cianci
Hello all! Are you scared of your hair? I know that sounds like a funny question, but some hair can be very scary! Just to let everyone know, twice a year (usually in the Spring and Fall), everyone loses extra hair, so don’t worry, you’re not going bald. Your hair exfoliates itself just like your skin, but your skin sheds every 28 days. Don’t be alarmed if you see hair on your shower’s floor or extra hair accumulating in your brush. It’s normal and nothing to be afraid of! I would like to talk about some beauty Do’s and Don’ts: As far as eyebrows go, here is a “Do” … try to keep them shaped up weekly or daily with some women. A “rule of thumb” says your eye brow should be arched in line of your pupil, in line with your tear duct and with the end of your eye. Everyone has one eye slightly higher or larger than the other, so you can add a little more with an eye brow pencil or powder. Make sure it is the same color and kind of smudge the eye brow liner on, it will look more natural. If you wear a swing bang, make sure your higher eye brow is covered so the lower eye looks higher. Also with your eye lash and eye brush you can use a little gel or hairspray to set your eye brow. It all depends on what type of look you are going for. Girls with a lot of brow also want less hair on their brow and a very thin line and the girls with no brow line want more and a strong brow line. A few good things to remember include: 1) Don’t be afraid to color gray or very light blonde eye brows, 2) Make sure your brow is cleaned up from unwanted hair and your make-up will go on much better, 3) Don’t over due your brow line unless its Halloween … less is best, 4) Always sanitize your tweezers with alcohol … germs grow on everything! Do not share tweezers without cleaning them first, 5) If you decide to permanently tattoo your eye brows make sure you do your home work. I
have seen a lot of people with crooked and/or orange eye brows and that’s just not a pretty sight! You also want to make sure your tattoo artist is reputable and experienced in the art of permanent cosmetic makeup. Ok now let’s talk about the do’s and don’ts of hair. As we are seeing lots of curls for the fall/winter seasons, try using a curling iron without the clamp on the barrel. Just wrap your hair around the barrel and hold it for a couple of seconds, spray with a light hair spray and let go. This way you will not have the mark of the barrel in your beauty curls! Remember never brush your curls always use your fingers or just shake your head. That way you will not get any frizz. Here’s shiny hair do’s and don’ts … hair color ads shine, but if you want to keep it, avoid combining any other chemical services with color or your locks will get too dry. The only exception, is a Brazilian Keratin Treatment which will help the cuticle without breaking the hair bonds (meaning the chemical service and color). Since it’s dry hair and a ruffled cuticle that inhibit light reflection, go ahead and flat iron or blow dry your hair. Don’t go against the hair cuticle, go with the hair mostly in a downward motion. Also always use a protective hair product before style your hair. Weekly deep-conditioning treatments at home or in the salon seal the deal. I am offering a “Fall Special” on Brazilian Keratin Treatments for $15.00 (depending the length of the hair). I also give another discount on a hair reshaping or designer hair cut. Your hair will feel like silk! This product is truly amazing! Call me at 727 224-4979 to set up your appointment. ASAP, I also work evening hours. Thanks and enjoy my beauty tips! Happy Halloween and Thanksgiving …. more to come next month!

She learned to sew at an early age and gained the nic name “Punk Rock Betty Crocker” for her extraordinary baking and gourmet candy making skills. After years of making clothing and handbags for herself Nikki started selling her designs in 2007. This would be the birth of PunkRockBetty Clothing. After consigning her handbags and growing inventory of dresses in a few Virginia boutiques she moved to Sarasota in 2009 in what would be an exploding point for “PunkRockBetty Clothing”. Having a humble beginning as a vendor at various local events to opening her very own boutique Rumor Has It Fashion House and Gallery, Nikki now focuses on her innovative clothing designs and unique twists on retro styles while staying true to her Punk Rock roots. BUSY MOMS CAN LOOK GOOD TOO!!

For information on becoming a model or actress, visit www. modeling-beginningtobooking.com or email Ro at romartinezmodel@hotmail. com. Busy Moms Can Look Good Too!! As a former stay-athome mom I was not content with wearing sweat pants and T-shirts all day long. My style didn’t change because I had a baby. Although this life-changing experience can be overwhelming
Ro
for women, our fashion sense shouldn’t suffer. I have to admit I had to relax my style a bit and reserve the high heels and little black dresses for date night with my husband. During the day I wore comfortable shoes and clothing. While a more laidback style may dictate your wardrobe choices, no one says you have to go to the grocery store, doctors office or school meetings looking unkempt or in an outfit that screams PJs . One group of women that fashion experts tend to ignore is moms of young children. This busy group takes care of their young children and sometimes elderly parents, their homes, volunteer in the classroom, run errands, do chores, and may work outside the home on top of it all. What makes moms different than other women when it comes to shopping for a wardrobe? 1.A hectic schedule 2.More stains 3.Prefer comfortable easy-care garments 4.Reduced budget 5.Little time for shopping 6.Sleep deprived 7.Distracted These things are enough to make you question having children. The lifetime joy that results from raising a family far outweighs any of the above points viewed as negative. Moms can look stylish if they follow my advice. All of us, not just moms, should consider care, comfort and cost before we make a purchase to determine if we are about to make a good investment. Because our wardrobe should last through several seasons, this is very important for moms who are already pressed for time. Busy moms have less time than most women to shop for themselves. They are too busy caring for the needs of their families that they put the needs of everyone else before their own. Often a mom’s weight changes after the birth of a child, with little or no time for exercise and eating on the run, grabbing

fast food with their child’s kids’ meal. This situation does not get any better. Going from a working woman to a stay-at-home mom also creates the need for a whole new wardrobe. It’s this vicious cycle of the need for a new wardrobe and not having the time to shop for it that frustrates many a mom. Many times changing accessories and shoes will help a women wear the same garment in a variety of ways. For example, look at the photo of our maternity outfit worn as post baby wear. We added a belt and changed the bottom. This outfit can be daily or office wear. Shopping online is a simple solution and can be done while your child naps or is at school. A 24-hour superstore is another option. You can shop early in the morning before your family awakens. Your husband and children sleep while you shop, avoiding the crowds. Catalogues mailed directly to your home is a good alternative. CAREFor busy moms on the go, making a trip to the cleaners is an additional errand to have to run. Washable fabrics are a solution that will eliminate the time and energy that you have to expend to drop off and pick up your garments. Here are your options: 1. Easy machine wash, machine dry, no iron is preferred. 2. Machine wash, line dry 3. Hand wash, flat dry COMFORTCotton fabrics that breathe and Lycra that allows for stretch will make you feel more comfortable throughout the day. Busy moms go from appointments, to lunch dates, to errands, to chasing after their active children. They need to think about comfort and fit first, cost second and durability third. possible, prior planning before you shop will help you make wise decisions reducing those impulse purchases. 1.Having a baby will put such a large dent on the family budget that not much is left for anything else. 2.The mother will often take a break from secular work or it may be years before she returns to the work force. 3.Purchasing your clothes after each season is a great way to reduce your cost. What some moms had to say: “Having a part-time job and 2 toddlers at home doesn’t allow me the time to change between work and playtime. I’m a young mom of very active boys; comfortable jeans or flowy skirts paired with cotton tops are always practical. Cassie tackle all that motherhood and life has to throw at me. I do not believe that just because I became a mother, it was time to trade in my heels for an apron. I think it is important to my children as well, so that they are not embarrassed by me when I meet their friends and their teachers. So it is important to look my best and fashion allows me to do that. When I buy garments for myself and my children, care of the garment is a huge factor in what I choose to purchase. I do not have time to take things to the dry cleaners, I need items that are wash and wear that do not need ironing. The easier the care the more likely I am to buy them. With a full schedule of working and taking my children to and from school, daycare and after school activities there is no time for extra work. Not only the extra work involved but the money it saves by not having to pay others to clean the clothing. For me buying easy to care clothing is essential.” JoAnn Davis, Mother Photos by: Ross Krison www.itsross.com Models Provided by: Ro Martinez www.modeling-beginningtobooking.com Makeup by: Laura Barone www.BlendTrue.com

HAUTE COUTURE DESIGNER:
AUDREY “PAT” MCGHEE BY RON ROMONCHUK Haute Couture (pronounced OHT-koo-TOOR) clothes are made from highly expressive/creative fabrics. The Tampa Bay area is host to many creative fashion designers, each with their own unique style and sense of creativity; and Audrey “Pat” McGhee is one of them! Pat has always lived a life of high fashion, and with 20 years of experience, she has become one of the Haute Couture ‘grand muses’ of fashion in the Tampa Bay area. Last year she introduced her new line that included several beautiful outfits at Tampa Bay Fashion Week 2009 and was invited to, and participated in, numerous shows, such as: * Annual Battle of the Models/ Designers Competition; Atlanta, GA (Awarded 2nd Place) * NOVA Fashion Week, Presenting “Unpredictable Denim”; Alexandria, VA * The International Hispanic Designer Fashion Show; Tampa, FL * South Florida Fashion Week; Ft. Meyers, FL
CORRECTION Last month this article was run with a by-line from our Fashion Editor Jay Burnett. We gave credit to Avatar Photography and all depicted models but we were incorrect about the author. This article was written by Ron Romonchuk. We apologize for any inconvience and we are re-running the entire article this month with the correct by-line.
Her clients include bridal party participants entering into one of life’s most joyous occasions, women in the midst of life-changing illnesses who require a wardrobe makeover, ladies who are taking their careers to a whole new level, and others who simply desire to re-make their look. Pat views her design skills as a gift from God! She uses her talent to work with women at the peak, or in the valley of their lives figuratively speaking. Over the years, her design skills have constantly grown and evolved; but along with this and participating in numerous shows, she has developed a strong sense of ‘showmanship’. Her “Safari” collection was introduced at Tampa Bay Fashion Week 2009, and has been one of her most successful collections. Despite her success, Pat wanted to go above and beyond, and bring some of the items in her Safari Collection to life. Pat looked over all of the different clothing and material patterns in

• Fashion the Safari line, and was able to visualize various animals from the patterns; and when she teamed up with Neva Durham, who is the creator and owner of Diva Designs Makeup; ‘Something Magical Happened’. Neva is a unique and creative makeup artist/hair stylist who specializes in a variety of looks, but is best known for her ‘Create on Demand’ ability. She uses a unique combination of traditional makeup and body paint products and techniques to bring Pat’s creations to life. Through their collaboration, they were able to bring the chosen articles to life at Pat’s next show which was a huge success. Pat chose the Lion as her Safari line show opener; and
indeed, it does get the audience’s attention. With the lion as the eyecatching opener for shows, Pat felt that she needed a closer. Since she has been receiving requests for a children’s line of clothing, she created a few items and uses them as the closer for her shows.
While many are wondering and speculating what the 2011 Spring/Summer Season will bring, Pat is busy working on her new designs; and as always, will be one of the ‘trend setters’ for the 2011 season. What does she have in mind for her 2011 collection? She’s been busy ordering fabrics, designing, and sewing and I guess we’ll just have to wait for Tampa Bay Fashion Week 2010. Whatever she comes up with, I’m sure she will continue ‘Rockin the Runways’! In addition to working feverously on her 2011 collection, she is also busy developing an online store which should be operational in October 2011. (www.apmimages.com)

Japanese Cuisine…
Sushi Shoya
by Ron Danielson
The Entrepreneurial Spirit….follow that dream – wherever that dream may lead... Chef Akira spent 15 years in Japan learning to be a truly great sushi chef (initially in Yokohama and then he was at a specialty restaurant at Tokyo Disney). His dream as an entrepreneur is to offer truly great sushi to those of us who live in the Tampa bay area. And, what better place to put this new Japanese sushi restaurant than on beautiful Madeira Beach on Gulf Boulevard. After all, our Tampa area beaches have been rated the very best beaches in the world for many years now. Easy to find, punch it into your GPS and when you arrive there’s lots of parking. As we approach our best Florida weather months, plans are underway for both indoor and outdoor dining. Many of our patrons are Florida residents. We offer luncheon choices and a take out menu if you simply want to call ahead and bring sushi or sashimi home for lunch or dinner. Luncheon and dinner specials are regularly offered to our fellow Floridians. We are closed on Mondays, but are open most evenings until 10 p.m. So what can you expect when you come visit our restaurant? Our menu is primarily Japanese choices (for those who appreciate the Asian difference). Start with Miso soup and your choice of three or four of our specialty salads. We do NOT offer a buffet style of dining. All meals are prepared fresh in our kitchen or created ‘just for you’ by our sushi chef Akira. If you eat sushi regularly then you will find our menu offers you a wide variety of choices. If you are new to the sushi dining experience then you will find a great variety of choices to
consider. Tempura-Katsu – Teriyaki – Sushi – Sashimi. Simply ask! Your wait person will be happy to help you with questions and choices that come with your new dining experience. Or you may want to consider a ‘bento box’ choice, essentially a variety of different Japanese dining choices. The bento box can be a good way to help you decide which of the various sushi or sashimi, etc. choices that you like best? Let’s talk quality and taste for a minute. You will not find better quality seafood or Sushi without going back to Japan. The Figi Mountain sushi roll is outstanding and you won’t find it anywhere else. At least sixty per cent of our customers are repeat customers and you regularly hear things said like, ‘Wow, great sushi.’ and ‘Never had it like this before.’ You will see things on the menu like Katsu, Tempura, Udon that you just won’t find anywhere else. Try them all! Treat your taste buds. You can choose to dine at one of our regular tables and the waitress will serve your meal choices along with your appetizer, salad and beverage. Or you can have the option of actually sitting at the Sushi Bar and watch as the sushi chef Akira prepares your choices. Remember this restaurant is different. Expect to be offered as many as thirty five different Sushiroll choices. And for your other menu items ( Tempura, Katsu, Teriyaki, Fried Rice, etc.) expect to be offered your choice of chicken, pork, salmon, shrimp, etc. Coming for lunch? You should expect to be able to get in and out quickly. We have twelve lunch specials, all very tasty, all very reasonably priced and most include salad and steamed rice. Your evening meal? It really should include some liquid libation and a great dessert. Tea, coffee and soft drinks naturally! On the menu you will find both domestic and imported beers and good wine choices. You would expect to be offered a great choice of Japanese Saki Wines. Look over the menu. You will not be disappointed!

POTATOES The most cultivated vegetable in the world One of my most frequently asked questions: “Chef Alfie, what is the best potato to use to make mashed potatoes?” Since Thanksgiving is just around the corner, this is a great time to explain the differences, ‘cause we all love mashed potatoes with lots of Gravy!!!!! There are close to 4000 different varieties of potatoes, but we are going to tackle just a few of the most popular. The main groups are: russets, reds, whites, yellows and purples. Out of these, there are two main groups, baking potato and boiling potato. Russet Baking Potato-- These potatoes are the best for baking because they are high in starch, less water and have a mealy texture. But when boiled or steamed, they turn light and fluffy and really soak up the butter!!! Some of the common names are: Idaho, Russet Burbank, Goldrush, Long White or California
Long White. All of these varieties are great for baking. These also make great mashed potatoes that come out light and creamy!!! My favorite, ‘cuz I love butter!! P.S. They also make great french fries!!!! Boiling Potato-- These potatoes are great for soups, casseroles, potato salad, roasting and of course boiling. They will make mashed potatoes also, but they will tend to be more thick and lumpy instead of light and creamy. Some of the common names are: Red Potato, Yellow Potato, Yukon Gold, Red Bliss, Round White, Round Red. All of these varieties are great for Potatoes au Gratin, Scalloped Potatoes, Pan Fried Potatoes or any variety of potato salad. Now we have what is called a “New Potato”. That is exactly what it is… a new potato. It is a immature small potato of no particular variety. You will see red potatoes as the most popular, but that does not mean that a new potato is a red potato or red potato is a new potato.
Remember, when making mashed potatoes, always, always, always…. add butter first, salt and pepper, then add the milk at the end. Never add the milk before the butter. Your potatoes will not come out fluffy!!!! As always, if you need some TLC to make the perfect mashed potatoes…. E-mail me at chefalfie@tampabay.rr.com and I will be happy to assist you and your family to find the perfect fit for you. There are no wrong choices. FEATURE RECIPE By Tracy Allen

Something’s FISHY But in a Good Way! I have found from personal experience, the easier a dish is to prepare, the more I will want to make it. Finding simple healthy meals will increase your tendancy to eat right. When searching for a recipe online, add key words like, “Quick”, “Easy” and “Simple”. That will narrow your search and hopefully weed out any complex dishes that you will never make again. If you are looking for a light healthy alternative to your main dinner protein, then this is the fish dish for you! Talapia has a light, mild flavor, is easy to prepare and is inexpensive. I found this recipe online and then added a few of my favorite ingredients. Talapia is so light you can pair it up with most any side. A whole grain pasta goes beautifully and I’ve included it as a bonus recipe for it this month. So enjoy eating right ... and easy!

Directions: Preheat the oven to 400°. In a shallow dish, combine the cheese with the paprika, lemon zest, parsley and season with salt and garlic pepper. Lightly coat the fish with olive oil and dredge in the cheese mixture. Place on a foil-lined baking sheet
(use a non-stick spray on your foil after the pan is covered) then layer the mushrooms on top of the fish sprinkling a light layer of parmesan on top of the mushrooms. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until the fish is firm and flaky in the thickest part. Serve with the lemon wedges.
PROTEIN & FIBER PASTA SERVINGS 4 to 6 side dishes
INGREDIENTS 1 pound Barilla PLUS® Angel Hair 8 tablespoons 0 trans fat Margerine 8 large fresh sage leaves, chopped Salt and pepper 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional) PREPARATION Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the pasta to the boiling water, stir to keep from sticking, and cook for 10 minutes or so until al dente.
While boiling pasta, melt the butter in a large sauce pot over high heat until it starts to foam and turn a light golden brown. Add the sage leaves and a few pinches of the salt and pepper. Spoon in approx 6 tablespoons of the pasta water into the butter and sage mixture and remove from heat. Strain and transfer cooked pasta to the sauce pot. Toss with the butter mixture to blend, coating the pasta. Add the cheese, and adjust seasoning if needed. If it seems too thin, wait a minute or so and the pasta will absorb the liquid.

LEADERSHIP...
MOVING YOUR WORLD BY
MOVING YOURSELF
By Rev Col AnneMarie Dyer It is very important to understand how the process of developing a foundation for your leadership ability can lead to bigger pictures of life. We have a lifetime to learn and grow and we must put our ego away and seriously evaluate our current level of leadership. Everyone should be open to new insights and suggestions from others. Leadership and success is different for everyone and the bigger your vision the better you will become.
A quick recap on the McDonalds story: back in 1930, Dick and Maurice McDonald started the small drivein restaurants. Their genius was in customer service and kitchen organization and their 1952 marketing effort was a dismal failure. They were good managers but lacked the leadership necessary to grow their organization. In 1955 Ray Kroc, who was a leader
purchased the franchise and with his unlimited growth thought and vision made it into an American institution. It appears that Mr. Kroc had a healthy self-esteem and he focused on seeing beyond and in a larger way. He lifted the lid to potential and progress was a must.
“You know what makes leadership? It is the ability to get men to do what they don’t want to do and like It.” Harry S. Truman
Abraham Lincoln had a big influence on his men in the Black Hawk War. He had spirit and tenacity and would never quit. He found that leadership was an art not a science and that it is a process not an event. Trust was the foundation of his leadership. Relationships are 85% of leadership. Anyone can steer a ship but it takes a leader to chart the course. It is important to observe yourself around others, and notice if people want to be around you, when they see you do they smile and walk toward you? Find ways to lift people’s spirits and brighten

• Harmony their days. Learn their names, smile, have a positive attitude and become interested in making people feel good about themselves, care and be a good listener. Part of good listening is the ability to ask good questions. Leaders touch a heart before they ask for a hand. Never make a deal unless both parties win and share successful rewards. Solid relationships are very important. Care about others and develop the people around you. Your leadership needs to develop a daily routine and not in a day, but rather over time. Learning from our mistakes is one of the greatest learning tools available. This is called failing forward. Do not be afraid to seek out others that have been successful in your area of interest. Though it is important that people know you, it is more important if they think you are worth knowing. It is wiser to get the job done than to tell everyone one you are the leader and have the authority. It is now always what you say but how you say it. Who you are influences who you will attract as we all vibrate at different frequencies and like attracts like.
“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” – Mahatma Gandhi
One very important piece of advice is that the people closest to a leader will determine the leaders potential, because only secure leaders give power to others.
“A man is not as big as his belief in himself; he is as big as the number of persons who believe in him.” – Woodrow Wilson.

I think people buy into the leader, then the vision. Sometimes one has to give up to go up, this is the law of sacrifice. Sacrifice comes in a variety of price tags. If you have to move on then leave behind in others, the conviction and will for others to carry on. In summary, the most important aspect of leadership is to surround yourself with great people and get out of their way. Don’t be afraid to hire people who are wither better than you or are capable of becoming better. The caliber of people who choose to follow you is the mark of great leadership. Vision, strategy and character are the very essence of leadership.
When one is the lead dog, “the speed of the leader will determine the rate of the pack.” –Wayne Lukas
Telling people what to do rather than how to do it will bring out their ingenuity and will become a measure of your leadership.

Horoscopes
LIBRA - Sept. 23-Oct. 23 Body image alert! Venus retrograde can make you quite the harsh self-critic, hyperfocusing on every pucker of cellulite or enlarged pore. Step away from the magnifying mirror, Libra. Cosmetic treatments, new hairstyles and wardrobe overhauls are known to go awry during Venus retrograde, so don’t do any dabbling now. Reach deep within for genuine self-confidence. If you have to stick Post-It affirmations on the mirror or blast Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful,” fine. SCORPIO - Oct. 24-Nov. 21 While a little pampering does you right, hold off on the makeovers. Any cosmetic changes, new hairstyles or image overhauls will earn you a citation from the fashion police. You may be ultra-critical of your looks during this period, or frustrated by your body, all a total loss of perspective. Refocus on your inner assets, like kindness and compassion, and you’ll see beauty in the mirror once again. You may also being grasping for control over your seemingly out-of-control life by trying to “tame” your weight or “fix” your face. SAGITTARIUS - Nov. 22-Dec. 21 Your tendency to be a martyr is strong, and you may also underestimate the amount of sleep and self-care you need now. That is, until you crash on the couch, or nod off during a meeting. Oops! You’ll have a hard time saying “no,” at least without a fair amount of guilt. Don’t get suckered into doing more than you can handle now. Your energy will reboot, but until then, be extremely gentle with yourself. CAPRICORN - Dec. 22-Jan. 19 Look back to personal life developments from a month ago. You need to infuse more of a family feeling into your everyday life. Identify your favorite café, gym class, library stack, boutique—all the places you feel at home. Take a deep breath. Your senses and pleasure receptors will send happy signals to your brain that have more benefits than you realize.
AQUARIUS - Jan. 20-Feb. 18 You’ve got energy to spare, but as gung-ho as you may be, sticking to a structure could be challenging. Your work schedule makes it impossible to exercise consistently. Just head outdoors for a long fall hike or bike ride, or take spontaneous weekend nature getaways. You may need to bring work along, but mixing in physical activity and the beauty of turning leaves puts any career stress in its rightful perspective. PISCES - Feb.19-Mar. 20 Fresh air and wide-open spaces are a huge help during the many moments you lose perspective this month. Don’t let crisp temperatures keep you from that morning jog or power walk. Weekend getaways with friends also snap you out of any obsessive ruts. Hike to see the turning leaves, and relax with mulled wine and a group dinner by the fireplace. Later, you can curl up in cozy pajamas with your journal or a thought-provoking book. Plan a healthy Halloween—pumpkin bread, gluten-free cupcakes, butternut squash soup. ARIES - Mar. 21 – Apr. 19 You’re absorbing a lot of energy from other people, and stacked on top of your own fretful tendencies, your blood pressure could rise. At times, it may be hard to separate your own needs from a selfinflicted pressure to please those closest to you. Notice when your emotions starting getting extreme, or when every decision seems very life-or-death. That’s a sign that you’ve reached your limit and have totally lost perspective. TAURUS - Apr. 20-May 20 It’s prime get-in-shape time, as the month brings a wave of fitness inspiration. Personaltrainer Saturn, is in Libra, your health-conscious sixth house, for the next two years. You’re finally willing to be accountable for your bad habits and change them. Sure, keeping track of what you eat, going gluten-free, or hitting that sunrise spin class might feel like a drag. Trust us: you’ll soon love how you look and feel.
GEMINI - May 21-June 21 Watch for negative body image issues and punishing self-talk. Watch out if you get critical of your gorgeous self, or rigid about your eating habits. Quick-fix fads and crazy weight loss plans are a no-no.Study after study proves: diets don’t work. In fact, most dieters gain back all the weight they lose within five years, some gaining even more than they lost! This is not said to alarm you, but to encourage you to create a pleasurable, moderate lifestyle that you can actually stick with for the long haul. CANCER - June 22-July 22 If tensions have built with a relative, schedule an air-clearing talk at the Libra new moon. Make sure you give each other equal time to speak uninterrupted. With energizer Mars in your creative fifth house, you benefit from more exuberant physical activity. Take a dance or Zumba class, and release energy through singing karaoke or trying an acting class. LEO - July 23-Aug. 22 Feeling bored with your workout? Add some variety to your fall fitness plans, and use the buddy system. Meet friends for power walks instead of cocktails, restock your iPod with new music and join an online fitness community that offers useful tools. With the array of apps you can load onto your cell phone, it’s easy to track what you eat or keep a fitness log. Combine healthy activities with social action: take a cooking class or a workshop on herbal remedies. VIRGO - Aug. 23-Sept. 22 A certain degree of structure always does right by you. You’ll thrive by sticking to a simple daily routine. You can easily scatter your energy in so many directions. Prune back the time-wasting little things that leave you frazzled, and make more time to prepare healthy meals, take that long walk or enjoy the sweetness of life. Quality over quantity is where it’s at!
