Editor’s Note
Happy February! It’s hard to believe that we’re already halfway through winter and there are certainly little signs of spring’s impending arrival. Here at NW Kids, we’re getting ready for our annual Summer Camp Expo (Saturday, April 22nd at OMSI!) and we can’t wait to see you there. Aim High Martial Arts is our primary sponsor this year and it is sure to be a very fun day. February is the last School Open House Guide of this school year. Check it out if you’re in the market for a new school for your family. This month also features a guide to Spring Break camps and a roundup of Early Bird Summer Camp discounts. Next month will be the first of our Summer Camp Guides for the year. We can’t wait to see you around town soon. Until then, stay safe and enjoy the rest of your winter!
Cheers, Mary

Drowning the Old Year
by Liemempty papers reject themselves in seconds ripped sheets are enemies tied into knots soft edges burn when touched
anything can drown: years, people, love, work the roaring, clear substance big as the sky above
where something wasn’t, now shall be the large place, left with empty pieces slowly bringing back light with previously-lit matches
quick jolts, sparks of fear, remembering the past good I did drowning there, as the wave crashes above me
A New Year to Start
by ShaniNotes no longer on the doorknob
All have been read
All are gone
Where have they gone?
A new year to start
A new year to create memories
A new year that may never be burned
But only forgotten
Things I didn’t do are still there
I just never tried them
The quick dance can last a long time
The list of vegetables has faded
A new list has formed
Things come and go
What happens in the past stays in the past
What happens in the future is foretold
What happens in the present is our story
