Armature The design of the armature stems from the dominant warping linear elements of the Balance Block. The Plaster Block is a spatial moment found by study of the vertical and horizontal planes, as well as the linear elements of the Balance Block.
The Armature reflects the asymmetrical nature of the Plaster Block while cradling it with a custom fit. It adds dynamic to the mundane faces and reflects the geometry of the more evaporative faces. The result is a totem with stimulating views from all sides.

Building from Within The final product uses Operative Spaces - Spaces only suited to one function - to create an aggregate choreographed space. The spaces were developed first in Rhino and later in physical Models.

The exploration of operative - function based - design through iterative implementation of spatial verbs began with documenting and indexing the body and creating A "Corbusian" modular. Spaces were designed to serve particular operations using the modular as a guidline. These spaces were then developed futher by use of the following spatial vocabulary: Stand/Shear/Reflect. Sit/Carve/Pack. Climb/Extrude/Array. Lean/Split/Join. Lay/Fracture/Array.

Exploring the link between dancing and swimming, the concept centers around a juxtaposition of grace and strength - the underlying tension in both dance and swimming.
The exploded axon shows how each program connects to the central stairwell atrium, as well as how each mass interacts and connects to the other.
The Butterfly stroke, known as the most "sexy stroke" in swimming became the inspiration for the form of the building. Starting with the form of the curve, I explored the south elevation and how it could relate to the city, the building and the massive programs it would hold.
Building From Without
The curve was developed by Buildingstudy Fromof Without: the upward most and LIFT downward most points of the butterfly stroke. Massing was derived from this curve.

Working within the balance of tension and release, the building is more t h a n m e e t s t h e e y e . The building consists of three blocks of program lifted and lodged within each other. The space between the blocks is transparent allowing natural light to flood the space. The heavy, sturdy, The intended effect is the same observed pause as a dancer reaches the apex of her jump. blocky exterior gives way to an airy and streamlined interior, with curvilinear forms flowing gracefully through East Elevation South Elevation West Elevation the space. The composition of the masses was informed by the function of the spaces. Theater The building overall is used by two primary groups - Dancers and Patrons. It was necessary to arrange the programs in such a way that people could get to where they intended with little or no interaction with others.

The Corbett Center for Preforming Arts was designed by Henry N. Cobb of the New York firm Pei Cobb Freed & Partners. Its expansive feel and use of compression and release made it an intriguing space for analytical study.

Secret Space The overall inspiration of the space is drawn from the works of Helmut Jahn. Post Tower is the building used to create the quilt for spatial exploration. The resulting floor plan is an analysis of space which creates an choreographed experience drawing one into the secret space. Every entrance of the space draws you towards the secret space which can not be seen into but rather through. The goal is to intrigue the visitor to find their way to the secret space.

Habitable Space As a studio, we were tasked to create a sequential space that would invite, move and stop us along a defined. Each studio group not only had to work dynamically within itself but also collaboratively with the other groups toward designing, drawing, detailing and fabricating the overall installation.
Location: University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio
I was the representative for the site analysis team and developed the annotated plan and topography map used to create the site model for the entire studio. Within my studio group, I worked on detailing and scaled prototyping of the iterative design process, as well as the final construction plans and fabrication of a cantilevered portion of the installation.

The new store layout needed to keep the charm and character of the existing retail location in Over-The-Rhine cincinnati while being a pilot for new retail locations nation wide. The space includes a generous Cash-Wrap counter, Accesble bathroom, break room and storage area and an open floor plan. Rookwood wanted to ensure that the space was welcoming and inspiring showcasing both new and old complementary.

The tower consists of two kinds of units. Each has access to a trash chute and a large "Yard" either to the front of rear. Each unit has 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a gourmet kitchen and open plan. Tile installations would be in each bathroom, the kitchen and entry hall, and the Yard. Due to Code restrictions, minimal aperatures could be placed on the sides of the building. Tile could be used on the facade to help direct light into the "shotgun" space.
The building was sited as an urban infill lot near the Cincinnati Historic Race Street District.
This theoretical Project explored the application of tile on a large scale residential building.
Rookwood Pottery Architectural Tile
Working from the ground up, the floorplates were designed to allow maximum tile installation while keeping the cost of each Condominium priced adequately.

Tetris House I designed this house to fit on a standard Chicago lot taking into consideration Code requirements. The assignment was to take an existing house and create AutoCAD construction documents for it, but i wanted to challenge myself. Axonnometric
I thought about how Tetris shapes fit together and used that as inspiration for the forms of the house. The ideal client is a bachelor/ette who likes to entertain but also like privacy.

Boot House The assignment was to create a house based on an object. I wanted to create a sunny space based on a shoe and the Mother Goose nursery rhyme about the Old Woman who lived in a shoe. I imagined the space as one of her children making a new home in the same style but more modern. This client wanted to have more than enough space for themselves. The space includes a lofted bedroom, a full bath, a lower level living room and study, a full kitchen, and a roof deck. The entrance is though the heel via spiral staircase which connects all to the main, loft and roof level.
Theater Wit Apartment
The assignment was to create an actors loft above the administrative offices of Theater Wit in Chicago, IL. The design features a twin bed on a platform that serves as both a dresser and as seating for the "living space. The space also includes a kitchenette, desk, closet and full bath.

Coordinated Spaces The assignment was to create two individual but connected spaces with distinct but coordinated interiors. I chose a study and a library. The library is the entrance to the space and has its primary axis aligned with the window. The secondary axis of the space is formed at the entrance to the study. The Study is raised 18" above the level of the library and also has a Japanese Style sliding screen which can close it off for privacy.
