North Shore Key Club's Service At The Kettle Article By Hannah Kareff, Division 4N The North Shore Key Club volunteers for the Salvation Army, raising money for this organization by ringing the bell in front of nearby grocery stores. This has been a club tradition, going on for the past 20 years. The event is title "Kids at the Kettle" and our Key Clubbers ring the bell every Saturday at the Stop & Shop Store in Glen Cove, New York. Club members love to sing, dance, and have lots of smiles as they say “Happy Holidays” to all while collecting donations for this wonderful organization. Its an amazing event that brings a smile to everyone's face! We sing carols, and dance to our wonderful Christmas music. Candy canes are given out to all children, and it is rumored that there might be a surprise visit from Santa…you never know!

New Hyde Park Key Club's Dodgeball Tournament Article By Phoebe Speter, Division 4S The past few weeks the New Hyde Park Key Club has been busy organizing and getting ready to host two big events for two different charities. On February 28th, we held a dodgeball tournament at our school. Fourteen teams, consisting of groups of Jr. High and Sr. High students signed up to participate. Each team paid $40 to play and all money was donated to the Alexander Begonia Foundation. Along with teacher volunteers, Key Club members helped to referee the games and also cheered on the athletes. A total of $560 was raised that day. On March 1st, we held a Faculty Basketball Game that raised
a little over $1800 for the St. Baldrick's Foundation. Twenty faculty and staff members participated in the game. We charged admission and gathered over 20 different raffle prizes from various community businesses. In addition, we sold cotton candy and bracelets for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. We partnered with our schools Dad’s Club for this event and they sold food and drinks to spectators. By both organizations combining money, we hope that we will raise a combined $5000 to St. Baldrick’s and look forward to seeing our principal shave his head if we reach that goal!
The Alexander Begonia Foundation supports children from underprivileged & poverty ridden backgrounds. 17
OCEANSIDE'S HOLIDAY DOOR DECORATION EVENT BxScience Key Club's Climb to the Top WRITTEN BY YI LAN ZHANG DIVISION 11

It's not like every day that we get to wake up before the sun does. Climb to the Top occurred on March 3rd, 2019 from 5AM to 9AM at the Rockefeller Plaza. It was my first time seeing midtown Manhattan so empty and peaceful. When I walked in, I was met with the energetic vibe from the participants and volunteers. There were volunteers from Circle K and Key Club. Bronx Science Key Club and Stuyvesant Key Club were assigned to the Spirit Team. We were given orange pom poms and clappers. Our task was to refill the climbers’ energy with our enthusiastic cheers at the finish line. We hid around the corner and had a guard signal the coming participants. It was really inspiring to see people from a variety of background climbing 66 flights of stairs to raise
funds for people affected by multiple sclerosis. While waiting for the finished climbers, Stuyvesant and Bronx Science Key Club played hand games and conversed with one another. We got to make new friends through Quackduty-oso and cheering. We also filmed ourselves cheering and chanting the Key Club chant, giving off positive vibes the whole time. Even though it was a Sunday morning, many volunteers showed up to help out with their best. All the shouts of encouragement and applause made that morning a very memorable one.

Colonie Central Key Club's Annual Badminton Tournament WRITTEN BY MARYAM REHAN, DIVISION 16
Colonie Central High School hosted their annual Badminton Tournament in the first week of March as a fundraiser activity to bring all the teachers and students together. It was very successful and unifying for Colonie’s tribe to have them show off their badminton skills. A total of thirty teams signed up for it, and many students came to cheer and motivate the players. CCHS Key Club was able
to raise a total of $300. After 29 grueling matches, the winners triumphed and were given trophies as well as the sports bracket as a souvenir from the club. Colonie Central HS Key Club feels proud to have accomplished such a fun, huge, and exciting event, and we hope to have more in the future as the year ends. Pictured Below are CCHS Key Clubbers at their Annual Badminton Event.

District Project ONE TREE PLANTED
For every dollar donated, One Tree Planted pledges to plant one tree. One Tree Planted is a non-profit organization that aims to tackle deforestation and environmental destruction by planting trees, one at a time. This organization plants trees in North America, South America, Asia, and Africa. Many of the regions where they plant trees are places that have suffered forest fires and floods. In the process, One Tree Planted has a greater impact as well; they're able to create jobs, build communities, and protect habitats all over the world.
Fundraising Goal: $6,000.00 Current Amount Raised: $2,715.76
Governor's Project COMFORT CASES Comfort Cases is an organization that strives to provide backpacks with daily essentials to children in the foster care system. Their inspiration comes from the belief that every child deserves to feel a sense of dignity - which comes from the fact that a foster child is able to call a special bag his own. With this in mind, the charity provides daily essentials such as lotion, books, pencils, pajamas, toothpaste, soap, stuffed animals, and more to foster youth around the United States.
Fundraising Goal: $5,000.00 Current Amount Raised: $19,269.75 22
My Key Club Story Featuring Freya Zhu Stuyvesant HS Division 11
WHY DID YOU JOIN KEY CLUB? I have been approached many times with the question “Why I joined Key Club” and to be honest, I’m not quite sure. I wasn’t exactly looking for something to do on the weekend nor did I join because I wanted service hours. In middle school, I served as the treasurer of Kiwanis Builders Club and this sparked my decision to join Key Club. It wasn’t long after that I found myself waking up before sunrise nearly every week to attend Key Club events. I will not lie and say that I did not hate waking up early and that it wasn’t difficult to attend events after a long week of school. So why did I stick with it? Because at every one of those events, I met new people that made every event and fundraiser worth the time. All these people made me love the rush I get when I sign up and attend an event. Seeing everyone’s faces and receiving everyone’s hugs is why I chose to stay dedicated in the club and will be why I will always remain dedicated to this club.
HOW HAS KEY CLUB'S CORE VALUES INFLUENCED YOUR DAILY ROUTINE? Key Club’s core values pushed me to become a more social and outgoing person. It was the driving force behind the courage that I have when I would walk up to someone that I don’t know and introduce myself. It also made me feel the need to lead when the time calls for it. If a problem were to occur, it would be very likely that I would find myself finding solutions. Key Club as a whole encouraged me to improve my prior self. To think more positive, be more caring, be more inclusive and welcoming. In a few years, I will be graduating from Key Club but the core values of Key Club has embedded itself deep within me and will not dissipate for many years to come.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR FUTURE KEY CLUBBERS? In order to fully understand the magic that is Key Club, it is necessary to stick with it. If the first few events don’t appeal to you, don’t just assume that the club isn’t for you. It usually takes most of the dedicated Key Clubbers a few events to fully see the beauty of Key Club. Another thing is to not to feel intimidated by others and take initiative. Don’t see someone’s position as a fence that restricts access. Instead, see it as an opportunity that can facilitate interactions between members. I would also like to say that there is nothing you aren’t limited to do as a member. You can embody the core values of Key Club without having a position. You can be a leader whenever you want and anywhere you want. You will still have an impact on people without a position. The most important advice is to to know your limits and not forget your original purpose of service. Take a break when necessary and enjoy service for service. Always build your character, be inclusive, caring, and be a leader.
