A Note from Your Governor Greetings New York District! My name is Allen Yu, and it is an honor serving you as your governor. Together, we’ve worked hard all year to make a greater difference in our schools and communities, and for that, let me first congratulate you for your dedication and commitment to service. As we are approaching the end of another Key Club year, it is time for you to be recognized for all the hard work you’ve done. I commend you for your efforts, and though as Key Clubbers, we perform acts of kindness every day not for the sake of acknowledgement, know that your dedication has not gone unnoticed. In this booklet, you will find awards, contests, scholarships, and recognitions for every Key Club member, officer, and advisor. Please read through this booklet and apply for as many awards and scholarships as you can. Most awards are postmarked by March 10th (there are exceptions, so please refer to the specific award criteria for more information), and contests are submitted at the Leadership Training Conference on April 16. (Even if you are not attending the conference, you are still eligible for every award our District offers.) The “Distinguished Key Clubber Award” is the New York District’s annual signature award, and we are pleased to present this recognition to over a hundred deserving Key Club members and officers each year. I welcome you to take a look at that application (the last 4 pages of this booklet), and I look forward to seeing your name added to the roll of Distinguished Key Clubbers of the New York District. If you have been an active Key Clubber all year, then I urge you to submit your work to be recognized. The New York District is pleased to offer these awards as a token of our appreciation for your selfless service. Distinguished Key Club Member Award The Distinguished Member Award is presented each year to a member who is not a club officer or District Board member and who has carried out his/her Key Club duties in an outstanding manner. In order to be named a Distinguished Member, the nominee must fulfill all of the Mandatory Criteria, and at least 5 of the 7 Additional Criteria. Mandatory Criteria 1. The categories of Distinguished Member shall be Distinguished Senior Member, Distinguished Junior Member, Distinguished Sophomore Member, and Distinguished Freshman Member. 2. Must be nominated by home Key Club and/or sponsoring Kiwanis Club. 3. The Nominee must: a. Demonstrate enthusiastic support for Key Club and the ideals of Key Club International and provide services to Key Club far above the call of duty; b. Bring distinction to himself/herself, the local Key Club, and/or the District through his/her actions or performance as a Key Clubber. 4. Nomination must contain the nomineeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s name and address, high school, and number of years involved in Key Club International. 5. The nominating club must include a brief summary of the outstanding work rendered by the member explaining how the nominee meets the criteria set forth in item 3. 6. A minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 letters of recommendation. 7. Only one member per class may be nominated for the award from each club. The entry of more than one member per class in that club will cause all nominated members from that class in that club to be disqualified for the award. 8. Attendance at majority of club meetings. 9. Performance of at least 50 hours of community service (verified by faculty advisor and club president). 10. Nominee cannot have held a club office during administrative year in which nomination is made. 11. Attendance at a minimum of 1 meeting of sponsoring Kiwanis club. Additional Criteria 1. Attendance at New York District Leadership Training Conference (formerly known as District Convention) and/or International Convention. 2. Fulfillment of Distinguished Key Clubber Criteria (please include completed DKC Application in the binder). 3. Attendance at the Divisional Training Conference or Fall Rally during year of nomination. 4. Participated in at least one interclub (e.g., an event with another Key Club). 5. Participated in at least one K-Family event (e.g., an event with another K-Family Branch other than Key Club). 6. Served on a committee during year of nomination. (if club does not have a committee system, applicant must chair at least one service project) 7. Attendance at a minimum of 1 division council meeting. General Information 1. All entries will become property of the New York District and will not be returned. 2. The winner of this award will be announced at the New York District Leadership Training Conference at the appropriate time 3. A maximum of one Distinguished Member Award will be presented to a Senior, Junior, Sophomore, and Freshman each year. All submissions must be postmarked no later than March 10, 2010 to New York District Administrator Mr. Lowenberg.

Distinguished Key Club President's Award This award is presented to one individual each year who most exemplifies the role of a Key Club president and has distinguished himself/herself in the performance of his/her duties as president of his/her high school Key Club, and has fulfilled all the Mandatory Criteria set forth below, and at least 4 of 7 Additional Criteria. Mandatory Criteria 1. Presided over all Key Club Board meetings and General meetings. 2. Ensured that all club report forms have been submitted within the month that they are due. A letter of verification from the District Secretary and/or Lieutenant Governor must be included. 3. Attendance at 85% or at least 30 club meetings. 4. Ensured Annual Club Achievement Report is submitted (available online at www.nydkc.org). 5. Involvement of Key Club in at least one joint activity with sponsoring Kiwanis club. 6. Key Club must be in good standing with the New York District and Key Club International. 7. Attendance at a minimum of 2 meetings of the sponsoring Kiwanis club. 8. Ensured club has members in attendance at majority of divisional council meetings. 9. Letter of nomination by a member of Key Club International who is in good standing. This person must, along with his/her letter of nomination, submit his/her own name and office held, if any. The letter of nomination should contain a biographical sketch of nominee. 10. Nominee must have met the criteria to be a Distinguished Key Clubber. Please submit a copy of the DKC Application with this submission. 11. A maximum of 5 letters of recommendation, which must include one from the sponsoring Kiwanis club, the club faculty advisor (which must verify that the individual is the Key Club president and has held that office), and a fellow Key Club member (see criteria #9). 12. The performance of at least 50 hours of community service verified by the faculty advisor and club president. 13. Ensured dues are paid on time for a minimum of 15 members. Additional Criteria 1. Attendance, during term as president, at Divisional Training Conference and/or Fall Rally. 2. Club has a net growth in membership of at least 5%, verified by faculty advisor. 3. Ensured club participated in at least 2 inter-clubs/K-Family events. 4. Involvement of club in community service projects. Please include descriptions of service projects the club has been involved in during this administrative year. 5. At least two delegates represented the club at the New York District Leadership Training Conference during his/her term in office. 6. Attendance at President Workshop at the New York District Leadership Training Conference 2009 and/or International Convention 2009. Must be verified in writing by lieutenant governor. 7. Ensures club members attended at least 4 club meetings of the sponsoring Kiwanis club. General Information 1. All entries become the property of the New York District Key Club and will not be returned. 2. The winner of this award will be announced at the New York District Leadership Training Conference at the appropriate time. 3. All club presidents nominated who are found to meet all of the required criteria will be presented with an Outstanding President Certificate. 4. A maximum of one Distinguished President's Award will be presented each year. No president may receive this award more than once. All submissions must be postmarked no later than March 10, 2010 to New York District Administrator Mr. Lowenberg.

Distinguished Key Club Vice President's Award This award is presented to one individual each year who most exemplifies the role of a Key Club vice president and has distinguished himself/herself in the performance of his/her duties as vice president of his/her high school Key Club, and has fulfilled all of the Mandatory Criteria set forth below, and at least 4 of 7 Additional Criteria. Mandatory Criteria 1. Attended all Key Club Board meetings and General meetings. 2. Assisted club president with all duties as needed. 3. Attendance at 85% or at least 30 club meetings. 4. Ensure Annual Club Achievement Report is submitted (available online at www.nydkc.org). 5. Involvement of Key Club in at least one joint activity with sponsoring Kiwanis Club. 6. Key Club must be in good standing with the New York District and Key Club International. 7. Attendance at a minimum of 2 meetings of sponsoring Kiwanis Club. 8. Attendance at majority of divisional council meetings. 9. Letter of nomination by a member of Key Club International who is in good standing. This person must, along with his/her letter of nomination, submit his/her own name and office held, if any. The letter of nomination should contain a biographical sketch of the nominee. 10. A maximum of 5 letters of recommendation, which must include one from the sponsoring Kiwanis club, the club faculty advisor (which must verify that the individual is the Key Club vice president and has held that office), the Key Club president, and a fellow Key Club member (see criteria #9). 12. The performance of at least 50 hours of community service verified by the faculty advisor and club president. 13. Chaired at least one committee (attested to in club president's letter of recommendation). 14. Ensured dues are paid on time. Additional Criteria 1. Attendance, during term of office, at Divisional Training Conference and/or Fall Rally. 2. Club has net growth in membership of at least 5% verified by the faculty advisor. 3. Ensured club participated in at least 2 interclub/K-Family events. 4. Involvement of club in community service projects. Please include descriptions of service projects the club has been involved in. 5. At least two delegates represented the club at the New York District Leadership Training Conference during his/her term in office. 6. Attendance at President/Vice President Workshop at the New York District Leadership Training Conference 2009 and/or International Convention 2009. All entries become the property of the New York District Key Club and will not be returned. 2. The winner of this award will be announced at the New York District Leadership Training Conference at the appropriate time. 3. All club vice-presidents nominated who are found to meet all of the required criteria will be presented with an Outstanding Vice President Certificate. 4. A maximum of one Distinguished Vice Presidentâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Award will be presented each year. A person may not win this award more than once. All submissions must be postmarked no later than March 10, 2010 to New York District Administrator Mr. Lowenberg.

Distinguished Key Club Secretary Award This award is presented to one individual each year who most exemplifies the role of a Key Club secretary and has distinguished himself/herself in the performance of his/her duties as secretary of his/her high school Key Club, and has fulfilled all of the Mandatory Criteria set forth below, and at least 3 of 4 Additional Criteria Mandatory Criteria 1. Attended all Key Club Board meetings. 2. Ensured club report forms have been submitted on time (Election Report Form and Monthly Report Form). 3. Attendance at 85% or at least 30 club meetings. 4. Key Club must be in good standing with New York District and Key Club International. 5. Attendance at a minimum of 2 meetings of sponsoring Kiwanis club. 6. Attendance at a minimum of 50 percent of divisional council meetings. 7. Letter of nomination by a member of Key Club International who is in good standing. This person must, along with his/her letter of nomination, submit his/her own name and office held, if any. The letter of nomination should contain a biographical sketch of the nominee. 8. Nominee must have met the criteria to be a Distinguished Key Clubber. Please submit a copy of the DKC Application with this entry. 9. A maximum of 5 letters of recommendation, which must include one from the sponsoring Kiwanis club, the club faculty advisor (which must verify that the individual is the Key Club secretary and has held that office), the Key Club president, and a fellow Key Club member (see criteria #7). 10. Letter of verification from the Lieutenant Governor and/or District Secretary regarding the timely submission of paperwork. 11. The performance of at least 50 hours of community service verified by the faculty advisor and the club president. 12. Submission of samples of nominee's work: a. Minutes of 5 club meetings; b. Roster of club members; c. Minimum of 6 Monthly Report Forms. Additional Criteria 1. Attendance, during term of office, at Divisional Training Conference and/or Fall Rally. 2. Participation in at least one interclub/K-Family event. 3. Attendance at Secretary Workshop at the New York District Leadership Training Conference 2009 and/or International Convention 2009. Must be verified in writing by the lieutenant governor. 4. Submission of at least 2 articles to the Empire Key, the Governorâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Notebook, or the Key Club Magazine. Attach copies for proof. (Articles may be sent to service@nydkc.org) General Information 1. All entries become the property of the New York District Key Club and will not be returned. 2. The winner of this award will be announced at the New York District Leadership Training Conference at the appropriate time 3. All club secretaries nominated who are found to meet all of the required criteria will be presented with an Outstanding Secretary Certificate. 4. A maximum of one Distinguished Secretary Award will be presented each year. A person may not win this award more than once. All submissions must be postmarked no later than March 10, 2010 to New York District Administrator Mr. Lowenberg.

Distinguished Key Club Treasurer's Award This award is presented to one individual each year who most exemplifies the role of a Key Club treasurer and has distinguished himself/herself in the performance of his/her duties as treasurer of his/her high school Key Club, and has fulfilled all of the Mandatory Criteria set forth below, and at least 3 of 5 of the additional criteria. Mandatory Criteria 1. Attended all Key Club Board meetings and General meetings. 2. Submitted District and International Dues by the regular deadline, November 31st. 3. Attendance at 85% or at least 30 club meetings. 4. Key Club must be in good standing with New York District and Key Club International. 5. Attendance at a minimum of 2 meetings of sponsoring Kiwanis club. 6. Prepare regular written financial reports, and submit an example with application. 7. Letter of nomination by a member of Key Club International who is in good standing. 8. This person must, along with his/her letter of nomination, submit his/her own name and office held, if any. The letter of nomination should contain a biographical sketch of the nominee. 9. Nominee must have met the criteria to be a Distinguished Key Clubber. Please submit a copy of the DKC Application with this entry. 10. A maximum of 5 letters of recommendation, which must include one from the sponsoring Kiwanis club, the club faculty advisor (which must verify that the individual is the Key Club treasurer and has held that office), the Key Club president, and a fellow Key Club member (see criteria #7). 11. The performance of at least 50 hours of community service verified by the faculty advisor and the club president. Additional Criteria 1. Attendance, during term as treasurer, at the Divisional Training Conference and/or Fall Rally. 2. Attendance at Treasurer Workshop at the New York District Leadership Training Conference 2009 and/or International Convention 2009. Must be verified in writing by the lieutenant governor. 3. Club has net growth in membership by at least 5% verified by faculty advisor. 4. Participation in at least one interclub/K-Family event. 5. Submission of District and International Dues by the Early Bird Deadline, November 1st. General Information 1. All entries become the property of the New York District Key Club and will not be returned. 2. The winner of this award will be announced at the New York District Leadership Training Conference at the appropriate time. 3. All club treasurers nominated who are found to meet all of the required criteria will be presented with an Outstanding Treasurer Certificate. 4. A maximum of one Distinguished Treasurer's Award will be presented each year. A person may not win this award more than once. All submissions must be postmarked no later than March 10, 2010 to New York District Administrator Mr. Lowenberg.

Distinguished Key Club Bulletin Editor Award This award is presented to one individual each year who most exemplifies the role of a Key Club bulletin editor and has distinguished himself/herself in the performance of his/her duties as bulletin editor of his/her high school Key Club, and has fulfilled all of the Mandatory Criteria set forth below, and at least 3 of 5 of the Additional Criteria. Mandatory Criteria 1. A minimum of seven (7) newsletters or bulletins must be produced. One copy of each newsletter must be included in the submission. a. The newsletter/bulletin must be on a minimum of 8.5"x11" paper. b. Local club, division and district happenings are to be included 2. The newsletters must be distributed to all club members (verified by Club President and Faculty Advisor). 3. Attendance at minimum of 2 divisional meetings. 4. Attendance at a minimum of 85 percent or at least 30 club meetings. 5. Fulfillment of Distinguished Key Clubber Criteria (please include completed DKC Application in the binder). 6. Letter of nomination by a member of Key Club International who is in good standing. This person must, along with his/her letter of nominations, submit his/her own name and office held, if any. The letter of nomination should contain a biographical sketch of the nominee. 7. A maximum of 5 letters of recommendation which must include one from the sponsoring Kiwanis club, the faculty advisor (must verify the individuals is the Key Club editor, has held the office for at least five months, and has in fact distributed the newsletters to the Key Club members), the Key Club president, and a fellow Key Club member (see criteria #6). Additional Criteria 1. The inclusion of International events in the newsletter/bulletin. 2. A minimum of ten (10) newsletters published. Please attach a copy of all the newsletters for credit. 3. Attendance at the Divisional Officer Training Conference and/or Fall Rally. 4. Attendance at the Public Relations and/or Editorâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s workshop the New York District Leadership Training Conference. Must be verified by the lieutenant governor. 5. Attendance at a meeting of the sponsoring Kiwanis Club. General Information 1. All entries become property of the New York District Key Club and will not be returned. 2. The winner of this award will be announced at the New York District Leadership Training Conference at the appropriate time. 3. All club editors nominated who are found to meet all the required criteria will be presented with an Outstanding Editor Certificate. 4. A maximum of one Distinguished Bulletin Editorâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Award will be presented each year. A person may not win this award more than once. All submissions must be postmarked no later than March 10, 2010 to New York District Administrator Mr. Lowenberg.

Distinguished Webmaster Award This award is presented to one individual each year who most exemplifies the role of a Key Club webmaster and has distinguished himself/herself in the performance of his/her duties as webmaster of his/her high school Key Club, and has fulfilled all of the Mandatory Criteria set forth below, and at least 3 of 5 of the Additional Criteria. Mandatory Criteria 1. A minimum of seven (7) website updates must be produced a. local club, division, and district events and happenings are to be included b. printouts of these updates must be included in the nominee's submission 2. Attendance at a minimum of two (2) divisional meetings 3. Attendance at a minimum of 85% or at least 30 club meetings 4. Fulfillment of Distinguished Key Clubber Criteria (please include completed DKC Application in the binder). 5. Letter of nomination by a member of Key Club International who is in good standing. This person must, along with his/her letter of nomination, submit his/her own name and office held, if any. The letter of nomination should contain a biographical sketch of the nominee. 6. A maximum of five letters of recommendation which must include one from the sponsoring Kiwanis Club, the club faculty advisor (whose letter must verify the individuals is the Key Club webmaster, has held the office for at least five months, and has in fact published the website to the Key Club members), and a fellow member of the same Key Club (see criteria #5). Additional Criteria 1. The inclusion of international events in the website 2. Serve as a member on a minimum of two (2) of the clubâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s committees. Must be verified in writing by the club president and faculty advisor. 3. Attendance at the Divisional Officer Training Conference and/or Fall Rally. 4. Attendance at the Public Relations and/or Webmasterâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s workshop at the New York District Leadership Training Conference. Must be verified in writing by the lieutenant governor. 5. Attendance at a meeting of sponsoring the Kiwanis club. General 1. All entries become the property of the New York District Key Club and will not be returned. 2. The winner of this award will be announced at the New York District Leadership Training Conference at the appropriate time. 3. All club webmasters nominated who are found to meet all the required criteria will be presented with an Outstanding Webmaster Certificate. 4. A maximum of one Distinguished Webmaster Award will be presented each year. A person may not win this award more than once. All submissions must be postmarked no later than March 10, 2010 to New York District Administrator Mr. Lowenberg.

Distinguished Faculty Advisor Award First presented in 1962, this award was established to recognize an adult who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in serving the youth of the New York District. This award is presented to a faculty advisor who has rendered the most outstanding contribution to a Key Club in the New York District during the administrative year. Criteria 1. Distinguished Kiwanian Award This award was established to recognize a Kiwanian who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in serving the youth of the New York District. This award is presented to a Kiwanis advisor who has rendered the most outstanding contribution to a Key Club in the New York District during the administrative year. Criteria 1. Must be nominated by Key Club and/or sponsoring Kiwanis club. 2. The nominee must: a. New York District Key of Honor The New York District Key of Honor is the highest recognition award presented by the New York District of Key Club International. The recipient shall be: 1) an adult who has made a life-long impact upon Key Club and youth in general or 2) an organization that should be so honored for a long-term support of youth or the New York District of Key Club International. When the award is presented to an individual, it is to be presented by the sitting District Governor at the New York District Leadership Training Conference. A biography or summary of award recipient(s) should appear in the post-convention issue of the Empire Key. Nominations of the award shall be made from individual Key Clubs on or before the first of February each year, and shall be according to the following criteria: 1. 2. 3.

Letter of Nomination: This letter should be written by an individual or committee of individuals and should provide a

nomination statement, basic overview of the candidate, and the reason for nomination. Biographical Information: This should include schools/colleges attended, community involvement, occupation/business interests, Kiwanis Family and other youth service affiliations, and other pertinent biographical information. Letters of Recommendation: A maximum of 10 letters may be submitted; however, only the first 5 will be considered for judging. The letters may be divided into any categories desired, but it is suggested that a letter from the community, a letter from the Kiwanis club, and a letter from a Key Club officer or member are included. Letter of Summation: This letter should be written by the individual or committee who made the nomination. It should summarize the letters of recommendation and the applicant's personal history. It should also include reasons why the nominee is deserving of this highest honor. Additional Information: Up to four pages of additional information, including photographs, newspaper clippings, etc., may also be included in the nomination package.

This award is presented each year to a club which, through its unselfish efforts, has produced during the Key Club year, the best project dedicated to the service initiative selected by the District Governor that year. Criteria: 1. Must be nominated by the Key Club and/or sponsoring Kiwanis club. 2. The nominated club must: a. Interclub Award Interclub is the act of participating in events throughout the year with other Key Clubs in the region. This includes attending each otherâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s meetings, taking part in events planned by multiple Key Clubs, et cetera. The Interclub Award is presented for the best interclub service project (hands-on service or fundraising event), and given to all Key Clubs involved in planning and participating in that particular project. General Information 1. All Key Clubs involved must be in good standing with the New York District and Key Club International. 2. Must contain a cover letter jointly signed by the club president and advisor of each club involved, which must include a description of the interclub project, the number of members involved in planning and executing the project, the causes the project supported (if any), the success of the project, and any other pertinent information, not to exceed two (2) pages. 3. A letter of confirmation by the respective lieutenant governor must be included in the submission. If there is a lieutenant governor vacancy in the division, please state so in the aforementioned cover letter. 4. Judging of the award will be based purely on merit and success of the project, not on number of hours or amount of money raised. Kiwanis Family Relations Award Kiwanis Family Relations is a vital part of the success of each Key Club, and incorporates not only communicating with the other branches of the Kiwanis Family, but creating relationships as well. The Kiwanis Family Relations Award goes to the club that has taken the greatest initiative to reaching out to other branches of the K-Family. General Information 1. The Key Club must be in good standing with the New York District and Key Club International. 2. Must submit a portfolio (with paper not exceeding US Letter Size – 8.5” x 11”) with the following sections A. Joint Service Projects with Kiwanis clubs B. Joint Service Projects with Circle K clubs, Builders Clubs, K-Kids clubs, and Aktion Clubs C. Sponsorship and Club Building of Circle K clubs, Builders Clubs, K-Kids clubs, and Aktion Clubs D. Public Relations Award Public Relations is truly the key to success as a club. Not only is it important to be performing service, but it is also crucial to be getting the word out about that service. The entry should be submitted in binder, notebook, or portfolio form, neat and clearly labeled, according to the following criteria: 1. 2.

The binder/notebook/portfolio submission must be filled with Public Relations materials actually utilized by the Key Club throughout the administrative year for which it is being submitted. Doug Madenberg Award for Excellence The Doug Madenberg Award for Excellence is sponsored by the New York District Key Club Foundation and is a way of recognizing the outstanding contributions of Key Clubbers, Faculty Advisors, Principals, Parents, Kiwanians or anyone else whose time and efforts have had a positive impact on Key Club in the New York District. Doug Madenberg was the first Key Club International President from New York, and this award honors his service to this District and this organization. For a tax- deductible contribution of $250, you can have someone added to the rolls of Madenberg recipients and further assist the operations of Key Club in the New York District. The poster should be designed to recruit new members for Key Club, and should not bear the name of any school, community, or district. The poster dimensions should be 17 inches by 22 inches, with the actual height and width not varying more than one-half inch for the prescribed contest dimensions. Distinguished Club Award The Distinguished Club Award is a non-competitive program providing recognition to individual Key Clubs for their overall performance in the combined areas of club administration, membership leadership development, Kiwanis-Family involvement, service, and fundraising, as judged by a pre-established standard for excellence. 1. 2.

Entries shall use the official Annual Achievement Report form (found online at www.nydkc.org). Entries must be postmarked by March 10, 2010 to the New York District Administrator. Entries shall be judged based upon achieving a percentage of accumulated points in the categories of the club Annual Achievement Report. Clubs achieving a predetermined score shall be designated as a "Distinguished Club" or “Distinguished Club – Diamond Level”. The Key Club International Board shall set the minimum number of points required for this designation. Only activities which occurred during the District administrative year shall be included on the report (March 2009 –March 2010). Suitable recognition will be provided by Key Club International to each District for presentation to Distinguished Clubs at the Leadership Training Conference. The decisions of the judges are final. Novice Club Award New clubs, because of their age, are not able to compete with older clubs. Therefore, this award gives the new clubs a chance to be recognized for their service. This award gives incentive to new clubs for providing more service to their schools and communities. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

The winner will be determined by the highest score of the eligible clubs on the Annual Achievement Reports. A special committee will be appointed by the District Administrator for the purpose of grading entries. Major Emphasis Program Award The Major Emphasis Program Award is given to the Key Club which, through its unselfish efforts, has produced during the year the best Major Emphasis Program Project. 1.

The official Major Emphasis Involvement report cover sheet must accompany all entries. It must be completed in its entirety. The New York District Key Club Single Service Award is given to the Key Club which, through its unselfish efforts, has produced during this year the best single project dedicated to the school and/or community. This award is at the heart of Key Club and its objectives. Each Key Club is urged to enter its most outstanding single service activity, using the standard reporting form available on the following page. Fill in all information in the spaces provided. Only the first place winner will be eligible for entry into the International competition held at International Convention. The activity described can cover any phase of the Key Club service program performed during the period of time from March 2009 to April 2010. The report should be typewritten and may include newspaper clippings, substantiated photographs, and other pertinent information. Must include a letter from the chairperson of the event confirming how many members participated. (If no chairperson, the club president may write the letter.) All reports become property of the New York District Key Club. None will be returned. All entries must be postmarked to New York District Administrator, Mr. Lowenberg, by March 10, 2010. Oratorical Contest 2010 Oratorical Contest Topic WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE FACING SERVANT LEADERS TODAY AND WHAT IS THE KEY TO OVERCOMING IT? General Information 1. The subject matter of the oration and the presentation must be original and completely developed by each orator. These factors will be considered equally in determining who is to receive the awards. 2. Each orator will be allowed a maximum of five (5) minutes for his/her presentation. Exceeding the time limit may result in a penalty. 3. Each orator must be an official member in good standing with Key Club International and his/her local club. 4. Every Key Club may participate in no more than one (1) act in the Talent Contest. A Talent contest entry may take any form as long as it is entertaining and in good taste. All participants in an act must be official members of a Key Club in good standing with New York District Key Club and Key Club International. In the case of a group act, all members must be from the same club or division. Accompanists must also belong to the same Key Club or division as the performer(s). 4. All acts entered in the New York District Talent Contest will be required to demonstrate their ability and entertainment appeal at preliminary auditions (time and place to be announced in the conference program). At this time, the most entertaining five or six acts will be selected to appear in the District Talent Show as finalists. 5. Selection of acts by the judges at the preliminary auditions, insofar as they are consistent with the high quality of performance, will be final. 6. The time limit on each performance of the acts at the general session of the conference should not exceed six (6) minutes. 7. Any materials (props, instruments, costumes, etc.) that are needed for each performance must be supplied by the contestants who participate in that performance. If a CD or tape recording is used for accompaniment, it MUST NOT contain lyrics. 8. Judging for this contest will be based on the following criteria and point values: a. Content 20pts b. Sandy Nininger Award The Sandy Nininger Gold Medal Award is given to the high school graduate who most exemplifies the tradition begun by Sandy Nininger. Since 1946, several thousand Sandy Nininger Medals have been presented by Key Clubs and Key Club Districts to outstanding students who have given of themselves "above and beyond the call of duty." G. Harold Martin Fellowship The G. Harold Martin Fellowship shall be attained through a donation of US$250 to the Youth Opportunities Fund.Additional donation levels of US$250 are honored as diamond level fellowships. Fellowships can be obtained through a donation in honor of an individual or by an individual. See the Key Club International website (www.keyclub.org) for more information.

Governor’s Scholarship The Governor's Scholarship is available to any college-bound New York District Key Club member in good standing. The scholarship will reward those Key Clubbers who go beyond the call of service, and who recognize the importance of the Governor's Project. The scholarship winners (2) will be announced at the appropriate time during the Leadership Training Conference. Winners will be given a $1,000 check, made out in their name and the Educational Institution he/she will be attending. The Governor's Scholarship will be chosen by the Governor, the Administrator, and/or a special committee appointed by the Administrator. The scholarship will consist of a minimum of one and maximum of two $1,000 scholarships. The criterion is as follows: 1. 2. 3. 4.

Kiwanis Memorial Scholarship Kiwanis has been our greatest source of support and guidance. They have encouraged us to continue our dedication to community service and to embrace the ideals of our organization. They strove to help Key Club members appreciate the many benefits that Key Club has to offer. Several Kiwanis members have distinguished themselves from the rest as the greatest contributors to our development as leaders and responsible citizens. The Kiwanis Memorial Scholarship awards an active Key Clubber, who aspires to make Key Club a more inclusive organization, with $1,000 to assist in their collegiate career. With this scholarship, we can continue the work of the dedicated Kiwanis members who educated and guided us. Criteria: 1. An applicant must have a minimum of two (2) year involvement with Key Club. 2. An applicant should exhibit a dedication to the ideals of Key Club in daily living and support of Key Club projects. 3. An applicant must be a college bound high school senior that will be pursuing a career that is involved with children. 4. An applicant must submit an essay with a minimum of 250 words and a maximum of 500 word that completes the following task: Describe one way in which Key Club has assisted you or given you an opportunity to make an impact on someone's life, your school and/or community. 5. 6.

Applicant's essay is to be signed by their home club faculty advisor and/or Kiwanis advisor. B y signing the essay, the advisor acknowledges that the contents of the essay are authentic. An applicant must also send with their essay a brief letter of recommendation from their faculty/Kiwanis advisor and from a club member in good standing.

New York District Kiwanis Foundation Scholarship Program 1.

Any Kiwanis Club in the New York District of Kiwanis International may nominate candidates for a scholarship.

Nominations are to be made on the form provided by the Foundation or a reasonable facsimile, and must be delivered or postmarked to the New York District Office by April 30th of the current year. It is requested that the winners be awarded their scholarships at commencement in June or at an awards program, if preferred, by her/his high school.

This program is instituted by the Foundation to recognize and promote good citizenship among the youth of New York State. Winners will be selected by a committee of the Foundation on the basis of which nominees, in its opinion, best meet the established criteria. All aspects of the program, including the criteria are subject to change by the Foundation Board of Directors.

Each nominee must be a resident of New York State and plan to graduate from a high school in New York State, the June of the year of their nomination. The scholarship may be used towards the recipient's cost of obtaining higher education. The award shall be payable to the recipient.

There will be a total of four (4) $1,000 one-time awards payable towards the recipient's first year expenses. The awards are not transferable.

A nominated student will be evaluated based on scholastic achievement, merit, need and career goals. Each of the four criteria will be weighed equally.

Kiwanis International Foundation & District Matching Scholarships The Kiwanis International Foundation and Key Club International have designed a scholarship program to recognize Key Club members who have excelled in leadership and have provided service to others. Financial need is not a factor in this award. Each winner will receive a one-time US $1,000 award (unless a district changes the award amount). Districts are eligible to receive up to ten matching scholarships based on the amount of Kiwanis clubs participating in the Annual Club Gift Campaign with the Kiwanis International Foundation. Interested students need to contact their district administrator to determine the districtâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s participation in the 2010 program. Applications for this scholarship are mailed directly to the district administrator, unless he or she instructs otherwise. Each district determines its own deadline. Members of the Key Club International Council (board members and governors) are NOT ELIGIBLE for the District Matching Scholarship program. Each district's Key Club board is to determine the procedure to select the district scholarship winner(s). The district administrator is to forward the winning recipient form and matching funds to the Kiwanis International Foundation by May 21, 2010. The Kiwanis International Foundation/Key Club District Matching Scholarship recipients will be notified by the Kiwanis International Foundation, announced at the 2010 Key Club International Convention, and posted on the Key Club International Website. All scholarships are provided as cash awards in the form of a check issued to the college or university and the student. This check is sent directly to the college or university for deposit into the student's account and most likely requires the student to endorse the check also. Checks are disbursed in August. A. A qualifying single service project shall be defined as a club service project, planned, organized and produced by the Key Club occurring on a single day or consecutive days, or recurring on different days. In the case of a recurring project, it is the same project that must be repeated for the purpose of achieving the same service goal. B. Entries shall use the official Single Service Report form cover sheet and shall be submitted to the district for competition according to the guidelines as set by the district. Clubs existing within a non-districted area shall submit their entries to Key Club International. C. Clubs shall compete with other clubs of similar size within four membership categories: Bronze, being 35 members or less; Silver, being 36 to 60 members; Gold, being 61 to 85 members; and Platinum, being 86 members or more. D. Entries shall be judged based upon an accumulated total of points allocated to the following categories: service need, 10 points; project plan, 20 points; project implementation, 20 points; final results, 25 points; public awareness, 15 points; member participation, 10 points. E. Only activities which occurred during the district administrative year shall be included on the report. F. Judging of all entries within each district shall determine one first place winner, and other levels of recognition as deemed appropriate, in each membership category.
