– Dr. Sharon Kennedy, Sr. Technical Associate • Colgate-Palmolive In today’s fast paced environment, there is a lot of pressure to put products on the shelf as quickly as possible for both customer and consumer engagement. In the rush to meet timelines, a product developer can lose sight of the consumer, which in the end can result in dissatisfaction, loss of brand loyalty, and ultimately loss of sales. In order to attract and then delight consumers, a product developer needs to balance their time at the bench with time to truly understand the consumers’ needs and desires. In this presentation we will examine key steps in consumer focused product design as well as give examples of activities that help to create better products for the right consumer target. Biography As a product developer and research scientist at Colgate-Palmolive, Dr. Sharon Kennedy successfully uses her knowledge of Chemistry and Science to develop some of the personal care industry’s most exciting new products. Passionate about STEM, Dr. Kennedy has served as a board member of the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers where she has been able to mentor dozens of upcoming scientists. In 2014, NOBCChE presented Dr. Kennedy with the prestigious Winifred Burks-Houck Women’s Professional Leadership Award for the work she has done to give back to students J A N U A R Y
