After completion of this session, the participant will be able to: m Identify the perioperative factors that contribute to lung injury in thoracic surgery patients and plan strategies to avoid this complication; m Understand recent developments in the physiology of one-lung ventilation and use this information to minimize hypoxemia during one-lung anesthesia; m Develop a plan to improve the perioperative outcomes of patients having esophagectomy surgery; m Manage anesthetic care for patients having airway surgery including invasive pulmonology, tracheal resection and tracheal injuries; m Perform paravertebral analgesia and lung ultrasound; m Improve their ability to provide safe and reliable lung isolation with double-lumen tubes and bronchial blockers; m Understand the intraoperative implications of large mediastinal masses and develop an anesthetic plan to manage these patients; m Develop a plan to manage post-thoracotomy pain for patients in whom epidural analgesia is contraindicated; m Discuss recent advances in anesthesia for lung transplantation and patients with pulmonary hypertension.

PGA Thoracic Anesthesia Symposium Marriott Marquis, New York, NY Friday December 13, 2019 08:00 - 11:00 Hands-On Demonstrations The workshop will consist of a “hands on demonstration“ of various stations equipped with fiberoptic bronchoscopes, video cameras, mannequins, lung models, double lumen tubes, endobronchial blockers and tube exchangers. A torso model will be used for demonstrating thoracic epidural and paravertebral blocks. During the hands on session, participants will be divided into groups to ensure faculty interaction.
