After completion of this session, the participant will be able to: m Identify the perioperative factors that contribute to lung injury in thoracic surgery patients and plan strategies to avoid this complication; m Understand recent developments in the physiology of one-lung ventilation and use this information to minimize hypoxemia during one-lung anesthesia; m Develop a plan to improve the perioperative outcomes of patients having esophagectomy surgery; m Manage anesthetic care for patients having airway surgery including invasive pulmonology, tracheal resection and tracheal injuries; m Perform paravertebral analgesia and lung ultrasound; m Improve their ability to provide safe and reliable lung isolation with double-lumen tubes and bronchial blockers; m Understand the intraoperative implications of large mediastinal masses and develop an anesthetic plan to manage these patients; m Develop a plan to manage post-thoracotomy pain for patients in whom epidural analgesia is contraindicated; m Discuss recent advances in anesthesia for lung transplantation and patients with pulmonary hypertension.

Right Sided DLT
Station 3:
Univent Tube/Uniblocker
Station 4:
Cohen Endobronchial Blocker
Station 5:
Arndt Endobronchial Blocker
Station: 6:
EZ Blocker
Station: 7:
Viva sight
Station 8:
Thoracic Epidural
Station 9:
Paravertebral Block
After completion of this session, the participant will be able to: m Identify the perioperative factors that contribute to lung injury in thoracic surgery patients and plan strategies to avoid this complication; m Place left and right-sided double lumen endobronchial tube, utilizing fiber optic bronchoscopy; m Place various types of endobronchial blockers to provide one lung ventilation; m Apply techniques for successful lung separation in patients with a difficult airway; m Manage hypoxia in a patient with onelung ventilation; m Manage postoperative analgesia in the post-lung resection patient.
