These dynamic organizations will join together to serve as trusted messengers and credible sources of information in a bid to encourage COVID-19 vaccinations among Black women, their families, and communities. “Throughout the pandemic, the disparities in health, economic, and social outcomes have been especially stark for Black women and their families. The Delta variant has made vaccination critical,” said Linda Goler Blount, President and CEO of the Black Women’s Health Imperative. "Take The Shot for the WIN will take us one step further in reaching Black women so that they’re not only empowered to educate their families, friends, and communities about the COVID-19 vaccines, but will add the voices of strong influencers and role models, as partners, to bolster their efforts.”
The Black Women’s Health Imperative (BWHI) is excited to unveil a new partnership with the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA), and the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW) that seeks to expand COVID-19 vaccine equity among women of color and their families. Through the Take The Shot for the WIN campaign, the three leading organizations will combine to educate and raise awareness of the benefits of
“In Black and brown communities, women play a big role in the health decisions for their children, elder parents, their partners, and themselves. As we have seen recently, the women of The W have pretty powerful voices and they can help mobilize our communities. It made sense, then, for our fully "vaxxed" membership to prioritize COVID-19 vaccine education and form a mighty trifecta with BWHI and NCNW to launch the Take The Shot for the WIN campaign!,” said Terri Carmichael Jackson, WNBPA Executive Director.
UNCF HOSTS WALK
How do you stay safe during a pandemic, raise money for a great cause and get some exercise in on the side? Through the UNCF Virtual Walk for Education®, of course! The digital fundraiser replaces the annual in-person walk that UNCF conducts each year, taking what’s typically been a marketby-market approach for the organization on to both a local and nationwide virtual event. The revamped, highly anticipated 33rd annual Detroit UNCF Virtual Walk for Education aims to raise funds to support historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and the students they serve through the help of individuals, corporations and other donor groups. The event will engage Michigan participants in activities to walk, run, cycle and dance safely—all while having fun and still raising money for UNCF. The Walk is set for 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 21. “For more than 77 years, UNCF has fueled HBCUs with vital resources to educate generations of African American and other minority students,” said Dr. Michael L. Lomax, President and CEO, UNCF. “During an unprecedented time in our history compounded by COVID-19 and racial

disparities, our students and institutions are faced with enormous challenges now more than ever. We are at risk of washing away a generation of talented and deserving African American and minority students. We need as many donations as possible right now because the students we help now will be our next generation of doctors, nurses, biologists, virologists, epidemiologists— the pandemic frontliners of the future. We invite everyone in Michigan to join the 33rd annual Detroit UNCF Virtual Walk for Education to help ensure better futures for us all.” Current sponsors of the 33rd annual

The organizations first announced the partnership during the "Healthy Dose" virtual conversation on 8/10/21, during BWHI’s Anniversary Week, featuring: Lisa Leslie, Former WNBA Player, 3x MVP, and 4x Olympic Gold Medalist; Jessica “Dr. Jess” Clemons, MD, Board-Certified Psychiatrist; Contessa Metcalfe, MD, MSPH, Owner, Acute Face MD, Cast Member - “Married to Medicine,” Bravo TV; Elizabeth Williams, Current WNBA PlayerAtlanta Dream, WNBPA Secretary; Johnnetta Betsch Cole, Ph.D., NCNW; Terri Carmichael Jackson, Executive Director, WNBPA, and Angela Rye, Esq. Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms launched two initiatives per her Administrative Orders related to the Mayor’s Use of Force Advisory Council recommendations: a public use of force dashboard and a video evidence submittal portal. The creation of the Use of Force Dashboard was a collaborative effort between the Mayor’s Office, Atlanta Police Department (APD), the Atlanta Citizen Review Board (ACRB) and Atlanta Information Management (AIM). The purpose of the Use of Force Dashboard is to improve transparency, increase trust between the public and APD and facilitate fact-based discussions around police performance in the city of Atlanta. This dashboard will be updated quarterly, with the next update expected in October 2021. The Use of Force Dashboard is divided into five sections with the following metrics: 1 USE OF FORCE OVERVIEW 1 Number of Arrests 2 Number of Use of Force Reports 3 Map of Use of Force Incidents – By APD Zone

With ongoing mentorship from Apple and an expanding Impact Accelerator network, RFG/MPW Environmental & Facility Services will have access to continuous growth and networking opportunities with alumni companies that share a commitment to the environment.
RFG/MPW Environmental & Facility Services today announced that it has been selected to join the Apple Impact Accelerator, a new program for minority-owned businesses that are creating environmental solutions focused on climate change, resource conservation and smarter chemistry. RFG/MPW Environmental & Facility Services is one of 15 businesses selected for Apple’s first Impact Accelerator cohort.
“We are thrilled to welcome our first Impact Accelerator class, and look forward to seeing how these innovative businesses will expand their work to protect the planet and our communities,” said Lisa Jackson, Apple’s Vice President of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives. “On our journey to our 2030 carbon neutral goal for our supply chain and products, we’re determined to help create a greener and more equitable future for all people. The businesses we’re partnering with today are poised to become tomorrow’s diverse and innovative industry leaders, creating ripples of change to help communities everywhere adapt to the urgent challenges posed by climate change.”
“We appreciate Apple for recognizing our ongoing focus and commitment to improving our environment and community,” says RFG/MPW Environmental & Facility Services President & CEO Roderick Rickman. “We are aligning with Apple’s vision to become carbon neutral by 2030 as we continue to deliver our high qualitydriven services to our customers while focusing on utilizing equipment and material that is sensitive to the preservation of our environment,” says Rickman. “This is our top priority along with providing job and training opportunities for urban residents.” RFW/MPW Environmental & Facility Services is the leading provider of integrated, technology-based industrial cleaning, facility management, water purification, container management and environmental services in North America. The company assists in enhancing operational efficiencies, improving reliability, and minimizing costs. As part of the three-month Impact Accelerator program, RFG/MPW Environmental & Facility Services will participate in courses, live sessions, and one-on-one meetings
Apple has committed to be carbon neutral for its entire business and supply chain by 2030 and is already carbon neutral for its corporate operations. The Impact Accelerator was announced last year as part of Apple’s Racial Equity and Justice Initiative, focused on addressing education, economic equality, and criminal justice reform.

CELEBRATE BL AC K EXCELLEN CE
The 5th Annual Black Owned Wine & Spirits Festival will take place in Washington, DC on Saturday, September 25h – 26th 2021 from 2pm to 8pm at Dock 5, Union Market. The festival was founded by Chanel Turner, the first African American woman to be a sole proprietor in the US Spirits Industry. In 2009, Turner launched FOUDRÉ Vodka into the heavily monopolized US Spirits industry. FOU-DRÉ (a play on the French word for lighting) has since expanded into Global Alliance Distribution, a distribution enterprise which provides distribution to minorityowned craft brands seeking placement in the Washington Metropolitan area market. This year’s BOWSFest will feature the re-integrated BOWSFest App allowing attendees to earn points which convert to BOWSFest dollars for the purchase of food and goods, ultimately encouraging the use of social engagement and collective economics. Much like FOU-DRÉ, BOWSFest is a trailblazing endeavor, which has grown rapidly with positive recognition. To further strengthen a Black Economic base, the festival welcomes other Black-Owned businesses to sell and promote their goods/services. To date, the festival has sold well over 6,000 bottles of Black-Owned craft wines and spirits, and over $100,000 in food from local restaurants and food providers. The Black Owned Wine & Spirits Festival is comprised of three major components: Industry Networking, Brand Exposure and Consumer Education. A canvas for experiential branding, the event embodies a farmer’s market style flow featuring the goods of craft wine, beer, and spirits companies as well as specialty items and tastes from food and retail brands. The 2021 festival is slated to be the largest yet, with 2 full days of spirit, wine, and beer sampling alongside a marketplace of tasty bites and high-quality goods for purchase. We are excited to announce that this year we will host the event in two event spaces. The indoor spaces as well as

This will allow individual attendees and small groups to socially distance to the extent they feel most comfortable. The Black Owned Wine and Spirits Festival or BOWSFest was created to fill a niche and provide new opportunities for a unique category of producers. The first of its kind, BOWSFest has fostered an environment where Black-Owned spirits, wine, and beer brands can come together in one setting for the single common purpose of growth. The festival lays a foundation for commerce and education that inspires and propels the widespread support of black-owned spirits, wine, and beer. Chanel Turner is the founding organizer of The Black Owned Wine & Spirits Festival. Turner is also the owner of FOU-DRÉ Vodka, an ultra-premium 80-proof infused vodka made with lime, pomegranate, ginger and kiwi, and lychee. The award winning, fivetimes distilled vodka is made through a unique patented distilling process using TerrePure technology by the Terresentia Corporation. FOU-DRÉ is globally distributed and unique in design. Resembling a lightning bolt, the brand’s bottle shape, and concept hails from the meaning of FOU-DRÉ; the French word for lightning. The bottle is manufactured in France and has itself won numerous awards in design. FOU-DRÉ retails anywhere from $29.99 to $54.99 per bottle.
P OW E R F U L “ S H A R PTO N ” A D P R O M OT E S D I V E R S I T Y Citizens for a Pro-Business Delaware (CPBD) released a new TV advertisement featuring legendary Civil Rights Activist Rev. Al Sharpton demanding diverse courts to deliver justice for Delaware’s communities of color. Sharpton contrasts President Joe Biden’s commitment to appointing people of color to the federal judiciary with the failure of Delaware’s leaders, including Governor John Carney, to prioritize diversity. Said Reverend Al Sharpton, “We’ve been fighting for years to put Black people on Delaware’s courts, but the Chancery Court is still all white. I commend President Biden for putting court diversity front and center on the national stage, but his home state of Delaware continues to lag behind and its leaders - including its judicial diversity task force - have repeatedly refused to meet with me. I’m proud to lend my voice to this crucial fight and activate Delaware residents to demand that their leaders act now to put Black people on the state’s top courts.” CPBD has placed an initial threeweek, $550,000+ TV advertising buy to run the ad on broadcast and cable television throughout Delaware and in Washington, D.C.. Additional ad buys will follow. The ad will complement $50,000+

already executed public awareness and door-knocking campaigns that have recruited thousands of Delaware residents to email their elected officials to appoint people of color to the courts. Said Citizens for a Pro-Business
Delaware Campaign Manager Chris Coffey, “Reverend Al Sharpton is a towering figure in the American civil rights movement. It’s an outrage that
Delaware’s leaders have failed to meet with him and local activists like Pastor Blaine Hackett to hear their insights on making Delaware’s courts work for communities of color, while President Biden has repeatedly met with Sharpton and taken tangible steps to diversify the federal courts. “We’re proud to amplify Reverend Sharpton’s voice as we continue this fight - and it is a fight. We have witnessed thousands of Delaware residents respond to our calls for action and demand real change - but the lack of concrete action from Delaware’s

leaders has been disheartening. We won’t stop until Delaware’s leaders heed the calls of the thousands of Delawareans who are demanding diverse courts now.” CPBD will once again offer a platform for Delaware residents to urge Governor Carney to commit to diversifying Delaware’s courts. The full script of the ad, voiced by Reverend Sharpton, is below: Look closely. Does anything jump out? We’ve been fighting for years - in the streets, in our communities - to put Black people on Delaware’s courts. But the Chancery Court is still all white. When I talked to President Biden, he told me he would put court diversity front and center on the national stage and he has. But in Biden’s home state of Delaware, leaders talk about diversity, while nothing actually changes. I've offered to meet with the government, and state leaders, over and over with no success. Even the state’s judicial diversity taskforce refuses to meet with me. Because in Delaware, who you know still matters more than what you bring to the table. So I’m bringing my message to you, the people: no more talking, we need action. We need diverse courts now.

Pictures' superhero action adventure "The Suicide Squad," featuring a collection of the most degenerate delinquents in the DC lineup. Welcome to hell-a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out-even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today's do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone's favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. NATIONAL CIVIL RIGHTS MUSEUM Celebrates 30-YEAR MILESTONE Thirty years ago, the National Civil Rights Museum became the first museum of its kind to chronicle the American civil rights history in America when it opened to the public July 4, 1991. The museum will celebrate the landmark year with a special Freedom Award event, a community celebration and an exhibition in which the public can participate. The 30th anniversary occasion continues the tradition of telling the story of everyday people who helped to make this nation great and highlights those whose stories are intertwined with the museum’s existence. This year marks the 30th celebration of the Freedom Award, a ceremony that honors individuals who have made significant contributions to civil and human rights in America and abroad. The Freedom Award is on October 14 and will feature a hybrid format with the live show and audience on site and virtual attendees engaging globally. Since 1991 the museum has honored 96 individuals or organizations. Due to the pandemic, last year’s virtual Freedom Award was the first time the museum did not present honorees. This year’s honorees will be announced in the coming weeks. On September 25, the museum will host its 30th Anniversary Community

Celebration as way to recommit and again thank the community. In the 1980s, it was a community of people that birthed the idea of a museum through a fundraising campaign launched by the Lorraine Civil Rights Foundation (formerly the Martin Luther King Memorial Foundation). The museum would not exist without the support of Memphians who fought to save the Lorraine Motel and turned the sacred place into a world renown museum. To make this celebration even more special, admission is free on September 25, thanks to FedEx. The museum has seen tremendous growth since 1991 with key milestones in its institutional history. In 2002 it acquired the infamous boarding house to expand its exhibitions including the state’s prosecutorial evidence against James Earl Ray who was convicted as King’s assassin. The National Civil Rights Museum completed a $28 million renovation of its Lorraine exhibits in 2014 with interactives and enhancements that create a more powerful, transformative experience to immerse its visitors. In 2008 and 2018, the museum hosted thousands of visitors for the 40th and 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s assassination during which it was the epicenter for the global commemoration. Through its programs and events, it continues

to position King’s perpetual question, “Where do we go from here?” Today, the museum’s exhibitions include stories of not only famous civil rights heroes, but it also highlights the everyday men, women and children who made the Movement possible. The museum invites the public to share their stories connected to the museum’s transformation from a site of tragedy to one of triumph, through all its growth periods as a site of conscience and a safe space for difficult dialogue. Through this year, the museum will share a social media campaign on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and

The public is invited to donate or loan photos, artifacts, news clippings, documents, textiles or other items that feature key people and events in the museum’s life. The museum’s collection department is accepting donation inquiries via its website until August 15.

Blacks in Cybersecurity known as “BIC” seeks to ignite a cultural change in the Black community through their Cybersecurity education and career pipeline initiatives. BIC seeks to educate and operate in a way to expose Cybersecurity as a hobby and outlet that can be experienced in any walk of life, in a casual and no-pressure environment. In re-imagining the traditional way in which knowledge is shared and presented, and adopting a philosophy that encourages lifelong learning, skill building and “tinkering” with concepts to gain hands-on understanding, BIC seeks to change the face of what a stereotypical Cybersecurity professional or hobbyist may look like.
