Both Trump and Giuliani allegedly made incendiary comments designed to incite the crowd and direct them to take action to thwart Congress’ ability to certify the election, including:  “If we’re right, a lot of them will go to jail. So let’s have trial by combat …”  “So we are going to … walk down Pennsylvania Avenue… we’re … going to try and give them the kind of pride and boldness that they need to take back our country.”

Shortly after, rioters breached the Capitol, including members of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers. Video footage shows a member of the Proud Boys breaking through a window with a shield captured from a U.S. Capitol police officer. The militia members then began to roam the hallways, using earpieces and walkie talkies to coordinate and communicate as they enacted their plan to hunt for Members of Congress, with some even bringing plastic handcuffs in preparation for detaining captured elected officials. Once inside, the rioters made clear they were acting at the behest of President Trump to interrupt the certification process, with one saying, “We were invited here by the President of the

United States.” Eventually, the rioters began pounding on the doors where Congressman Thompson and the House of Representatives were voting to certify the Electoral College. Behind the barricaded doors, Thompson heard the rioters trying to break into the chamber refer to Speaker Pelosi as a “bi***,” saying they wanted to get their hands on her and refer to Vice President Pence as a person who had betrayed President Trump. Even as the insurrection was occurring, Giuliani made phone calls to Members of Congress insisting that they do everything they could to “slow down” the Electoral College vote count in

Congress, again referring to unfounded claims of voter fraud. Later in the evening, President Trump tweeted, “These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away from great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long. Go home with love & in peace. Remember this day forever!” The NAACP has, since its founding, represented individuals in court to eliminate race-based discrimination. Throughout the 2020 election cycle, and after the election, the NAACP utilized the judiciary to protect the rights of African-American voters and ensure that their ballots were counted. This case is a continuation of that work.

(Black PR Wire) The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) today announced two upcoming actions by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to provide more than $22 billion in funding to states, localities, and territories in support of the nation’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, as directed by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act.

the funding bill signed by President Trump in December has billions of dollars in new funding for COVID-19 testing and vaccinations,” said HHS Secretary Alex Azar. “We’re making these billions in new funds available to states as quickly as possible to support our combined efforts to end the pandemic.”

Funding will provide critical support for testing and vaccination-related activities to jurisdictions before January 19, 2021: More than $19 billion will be allocated to jurisdictions through the existing CDC Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) cooperative agreement. These awards will support testing, contract tracing, surveillance, containment, and mitigation to monitor and suppress the spread of COVID-19. Award recipients will include 64 jurisdictions including all 50 states, the District of Columbia, five major cities, and

U.S. territories/islands. Consistent with Congressional direction, funds will be allocated by a populationbased formula. Over $3 billion will be made available in an initial award to jurisdictions through the existing CDC Immunization and Vaccines for Children cooperative agreement. These awards will support a range of COVID-19

vaccination activities across jurisdictions. Award recipients will include 64 jurisdictions including all 50 states, the District of Columbia, five major cities, and U.S. territories/islands. Consistent with Congressional direction, funds will be allocated by a populationbased formula. “On top of the substantial support we’ve already provided,

“This funding is another timely investment that will strengthen our nation’s efforts to stop the COVID-19 pandemic in America,” said CDC Director Robert R. Redfield, MD. “Particularly now, it is crucial that states and communities have the resources they need to conduct testing, and to distribute and administer safe, high-quality COVID-19 vaccines safely and equitably.” Funding tables with jurisdictions specific award amounts[i] can be found below. Jurisdictions will be required to comply with terms and conditions of the awards when issued.

United States. This comprehensive approach to advancing racial equity includes a goal to strengthen Citi’s own policies and practices, including the expansion of the firm’s own core business activities with minority-owned broker dealers and depository

institutions. “Minority-owned broker dealers, Black-owned firms in particular, have historically and largely been shut out of the capital markets. Yet, recent data shows that investing in these firms is good business and adds to the economy. As we continue to do the work to become an anti-racist institution and drive finance toward a more equitable and inclusive industry, we will do our part by engaging firms that reinvest into the Black community. Enabling equal opportunity is at the core of Dr. King’s dream, which we must strive to realize each day,” said Mark Mason, Chief Financial Officer of Citi. For this transaction, Citi issued a $2.5 billion six-year non call 5-year fixed-to-floating rate note indexed to SOFR. Citi hired four Black-owned financial firms to distribute the bonds to investors, which priced on January 21. The firms included Blaylock Van, LLC; CastleOak Securities, L.P.; Global Oak Capital Markets and Loop Capital Markets LLC.

February 18, 2021 - February 24, 2021

“Citi continues to proactively seek opportunities to partner with diverse syndicate groups for our bond offerings,” said Michael Verdeschi, Treasurer of Citi. “The successful execution of this transaction demonstrates the benefits of providing greater access to the capital markets to traditionally underrepresented firms.” “Citi consistently provides a platform for MWVBE (Minority, Women, or Veteran Business Enterprise) firms, to be a major participant in the capital markets. We are extremely grateful for Citi’s inclusion of us as a Joint-Lead Manager in their recent transaction,” said Eric V. Standifer, CEO of Blaylock Van, LLC. “We look forward to working with Citi in the future and appreciate our long-standing relationship, throughout the history of Blaylock Van.” Since 2015, Citi has worked with over 30 firms owned by underrepresented minorities, women and veterans totaling over $150 billion in bond issuance.

NE WS Historic Church To Appoint a BLACK JUSTICE to the All-White Chancery Court Pastor Blaine Hackett of historic St. John African Methodist Church, Inc. in Newark has joined Citizens for a Pro-Business Delaware’s (CPBD) calls to fill the vacancy of Chancery Court Chancellor Andre Bouchard with a Black justice. Pastor Hackett echoes the calls of legendary civil rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton in his recent letter to President Biden advocating for

increased diversity within the federal judiciary, and in Delaware. “For too long in Delaware, and across the nation, our leadership

has not reflected the diversity of our congregations, our neighborhoods or our State,” said Pastor Blaine Hackett of St. John African Methodist Church, Inc. “The vacancy on the Chancery Court gives us yet another opportunity to advance Black leaders and support diverse, fair courts which, in turn, lead to fair rulings and fair sentencing. I stood outside the Senate building about

a year ago and urged the Governor to increase diversity on Delaware’s courts and fill Justice Montgomery-Reeves’ vacant seat with a Black justice. Although our calls were not answered,

we are again faced with the opportunity to begin to correct the past that has disproportionately awarded white men these positions of leadership. I urge the Governor to replace Chancellor Bouchard and Justice Smalls with Black judges and move our courts in the right direction for diversity and justice.” Pastor Hackett has joined Citizens for a Pro-Business Delaware in their

$250,000 awareness campaign for diverse appointments in leadership and on courts. The group has purchased print, radio and digital advertising space to spread awareness of the vacancies

and urge Governor Carney to take the opportunity to achieve his own stated goal of advancing diversity in leadership roles in Delaware. Since launching the campaign, CPBD has engage more than 350 Delaware residents to send emails to Governor Carney urging him to appoint a Black justice to replace Bouchard. “We have only just begun our outreach to Delaware residents and we already have more than 350 emails into the Governor asking him to appoint a Black justice to the Chancery Court, which in times of turmoil is tasked with representing the best interest of people across the nation from many different backgrounds,” said Chris Coffey, Campaign Manager for Citizens for a Pro-Business Delaware. “How can Delaware courts represent those they are meant to serve when they are overwhelmingly comprised of wealthy, white men? The opportunity for Governor Carney to increase diversity on the courts is here again, and the time for change was decades ago.” Citizens for a Pro-Business Delaware is a group made up of more than 5,000 members including employees of the global translation services company TransPerfect, as well as concerned Delaware residents, business executives and others. They formed in April of 2016 to focus on raising awareness with Delaware residents, elected officials, and other stakeholders about the unprecedented forced sale of TransPerfect. While their primary goal of saving the company has been accomplished, they continue their efforts to fight for more transparency in the Delaware Chancery Court. BUSINETAINMENT ENTER SS "DELILAH" ADDS NEW CAST OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network announced today the addition of fourteen new roles plus directors Ayoka Chenzira and Crystle C. Roberson for new drama "Delilah," from acclaimed "Greenleaf" creator Craig Wright, who serves as executive producer along with Charles Randolph-Wright and Oprah Winfrey. In 2020, "Greenleaf" was the year's most-watched original cable series with African-American viewers. Delilah left a demanding white-shoe law firm a decade ago and hung up her own shingle so she could make raising her kids her number one priority. Now she takes on cases the big firms ignore and finds herself, more often than not, going head-to-head with the powerful and privileged as she fights for the disenfranchised. In addition to raising her two kids, Maia and Marcus, Delilah also cares for her young nephew Dion; manages her relationship with her frustrating ex; and to top it all off, she's about to go up against her best friend Tamara in court for the first time. Delilah has always represented the underdogs. Tamara has always represented the wealthy and powerful. BL ACK WOM E N’S HEA LTH IMP ER ATIVE & healthywomen Pa r t n e r on O B E S I T Y AWA R E N E S S HealthyWomen and Black Women’s Health Imperative, leading women’s health experts, today announced a partnership to raise awareness of obesity as a disease and national health crisis, in a manner that is free of stigma, judgment, and bias. The multifaceted campaign, Reclaim Your Wellness, will focus on making obesity a healthcare priority, while improving the lives of people with obesity; changing how the world sees, prevents and treats obesity as a disease; and ensuring people living with obesity have access to science-based, comprehensive care. Both partners will deliver tailored educational and lifestyle content and resources, along with interactive tools, podcasts and stories from real women on the physical and emotional impacts of obesity. A webinar series will convene renowned experts to elevate the conversation around underlying causes of obesity and treatments, while educating and empowering women across diverse communities. The first webinar, scheduled for February 19th from 1:00 pm- 2:00 pm EST, will feature Emmy and NAACP Image Award winning talk show host, actress, and author, Loni Love. Exciting fitness classes

This partnership will allow us to drive the conversation about the need to educate the public and healthcare industry about this condition and society’s damaging perceptions.”

and healthy cooking sessions, both delivered virtually, will augment the journey to positive health outcomes. “We know women with obesity have a higher chance of developing

serious health conditions and diseases, including putting them at a higher risk for COVID-19,” said HealthyWomen’s CEO, Beth Battaglino, RN-C. “We also know

“So often, the underlying causes of obesity are not fully examined when it comes to Black women," states Linda Goler Blount, MPH, President and CEO of Black Women’s Health Imperative. “However, studies have shown that Black women have on average, 15% more of the stress hormone, cortisol, in their blood stream at any point in time. This changes both our inflammatory and metabolic responses which raise our risk for being obese and for obesityrelated syndromes. Our partnership with HealthyWomen provides both organizations with a platform to engage all women, healthcare providers and policymakers to understand and address the fundamental relationship between socially- and racially-mediated stress, obesity and disease.” The program is funded by Novo Nordisk.

KNOW YOUR HISTORY, KNOW YOUR RISK Empowers Black Women According to Susan G. Komen®, the world’s leading breast cancer organization, the inequities laid bare by the COVID-19 pandemic have long been experienced by Black women with breast cancer. The tragic history of breast cancer for Black women is one of being underserved at almost every step in the health care system, including before they are diagnosed. These systemic issues are compounded by the lack of diversity in breast cancer research and clinical trials, leading to limited understanding of breast cancer in and the effectiveness of treatments for Black women. “Black women face a trifecta of issues that negatively affect their breast cancer outcomes,” said Paula Schneider, Komen’s President and CEO. “They tend to be diagnosed younger, at later stages and with more aggressive and hard-to-treat subtypes of breast cancer, such as triple negative breast cancer. The impact of systemic racism and bias starting

at screening through treatment compounds the barriers to quality care and better outcomes. This is unacceptable. Together, we can change outcomes in breast cancer for Black women.” In honor of Black History Month, Komen is launching a resource, “Know Your History, Know Your Risk,” to help empower Black women to take charge of their breast health and inspire meaningful conversations with family, friends and healthcare providers about their breast cancer risk. Visit komen.org/ knowyourhistory to access resources and information to learn more about how one’s family health history may impact a person’s risk of developing breast cancer. Komen estimates that as many as one-third of those dying of breast cancer each year could be saved if they had access to the high standard of care and treatments that already exist today. Komen’s health equity program is comprehensive

and serves Black patients by:  Connecting Black breast cancer patients to high quality care and overcoming barriers in the health care system through patient navigation  Empowering patients with evidence-based information about breast cancer, their rights as breast cancer patients, and options along care pathways  Sparking research discoveries that will provide improved treatments and care that overcome

the drivers of disparities  Supporting young Black scientists with funding to advance their research careers, to ensure diversity in research leadership  Speaking truth to power in our state and national capitols by elevating the voice of Black breast cancer patients in public policy advocacy Komen is committed to eliminating barriers and reducing disparities in breast cancer outcomes for Black women.
