PROTECT YOUR MONEY AND YOUR INFORMATION The pandemic has accelerated identity theft – and the impact on regular people is significant. In fact, Americans have lost more than $382 million to scams related to stimulus checks and unemployment benefits. Even worse, Black and Latino consumers are more likely to be victims of fraud than their white counterparts. That’s why it’s crucial to recognize activity designed to steal your hard-earned money. We sat down with Wayne Davis, community manager from the Mt. Vernon Chase branch on 22 W 1st Street, to discuss tips and best practices for securing a better financial future. New York Trend: What should consumers be looking for when it comes to scammers? Wayne Davis: Phishing is the fancy name for emails pretending to be from reputable companies – including banks. They’re really from criminals who are trying to get your personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers. So, be very careful about clicking on a link in an email; instead go directly to the company’s website. And don’t click on attachments unless you’re sure it’s from someone you know and trust. New York Trend: Are there specific signs to look for? Wayne Davis: Scammers will often tell you there is a problem or a prize. They might say you are in trouble with the government, you owe money or someone in your family has an emergency. After setting up the problem or prize, scammers will pressure you to act immediately. No legitimate business or government agency will pressure you in this way or ask for your personal information over the phone or email. New York Trend: How can consumers protect their money and their information? Wayne Davis: Here are few best practices: • Create a separate password for each financial institution. This provides an additional level of protection in case there is an issue at one institution. • Monitor your accounts. Log into your accounts frequently – even daily – through online banking or on your mobile banking app to monitor transactions and your account balance. Look for transactions you don’t recognize and check your monthly statements. If there’s an issue, contact your bank right away. • Check your credit report. At least once a year, read through your credit reports carefully. You can request a free annual credit report from each of the three national credit reporting agencies, even if you don’t suspect any unauthorized activity on your account. Visit www.annualcreditreport.com. New York Trend: How does Chase protect customers from fraud? Wayne Davis: We see it as a partnership; we help protect your accounts and information, and so do you. We monitor all of our accounts around the clock, including using security measures you can’t see. Also, if we find or you flag a transaction that you didn’t authorize, we offer Zero Liability Protection, meaning you won’t be held responsible for it. Stop by the Mt. Vernon Chase branch on 22 W 1st Street to learn more about JPMorgan Chase’s commitment to customer security through our fraud prevention and protection tools. I look forward to working with you. longtime friend of the Borough President. “Ruben is a tremendous addition to the Actum team. He is an icon in the Bronx and a respected statesman in national politics. NEWS NEW PLAN TO ADDRESS HEALTH INEQUALITIES IN MULTICULTURAL COMMUNITIES BodiMetrics has announced several new initiatives that address health inequality in the wearable medical technology industry and increase multicultural communities’ awareness of the implicit racial bias in commercial pulse oximeters. Research published by several organizations, including the New England Journal of Medicine, has raised concerns about dangerous inaccuracies in pulse oximeters, devices that measure blood oxygen, when used by African Americans and other patients with darker skin tones. Other recent studies have also found that smartwatches and fitness bands are less effective at tracking the heart rate of people of color. “BodiMetrics medical devices’ ability to deliver accurate data is the primary reason I decided to work with them,” said Dr. Meir Kryger, professor of Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine at Yale University. “Most other popular fitness devices do not provide accurate medical information for all populations. BodiMetric’s Prevention circul+ ring does.” BodiMetrics, makers of the Prevention circul+ wellness monitoring ring, previously published studies demonstrating that the Circul wellness rings provide accurate blood oxygen and heart rate readings for people of all skin tones. Now the company is taking further steps to promote health equity, including new research partnerships in the United Kingdom and Portugal to study skin sensitivity in sensors medical professionals can use to monitor health.
“Health inequality is a major issue. Our mission has always been to provide the very best data with our devices,” said Neil Friedman, BodiMetrics Co-founder and COO. “We built the Prevention circul+ to work for everyone. And we will continue to form the right relationships within consumer circles and the greater medical community to bring our solutions where they are needed.” In the United States, BodiMetrics recently formed a collaboration with Kelvin E. Boston, the best-selling financial author, entrepreneur, and host of Moneywise with Kelvin Boston, a multicultural financial wellness TV series. The collaboration will raise awareness about the Prevention circul+ for African American and multicultural consumers and healthcare providers through a new online marketing campaign, online healthcare marketplace, and sponsorship of the new Moneywise with Kelvin Boston TV series being produced for public TV stations and streaming platforms. “The Prevention circul+ wellness ring is an empowering, affordable, and easy to use wellness ring,” said Kelvin Boston. “I’m excited about informing communities of color about BodiMetric’s circul+ ring because it can help reduce health disparities by giving everyone the power to accurately monitor vital health signs, sleep, and exercise regardless of their skin tone. Now everyone can use the power of digital health monitoring to help secure a longer and healthier life.” Marilyn French Hubbard, Ph.D., President, and CEO of Healthy, Wealthy, & Wise: Change Agents, LLC and

former Corporate Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer of Henry Ford Health, explains why the BodiMetrics research and collaborations with Dr. Meir Kryger and Kelvin Boston matter. “CDC data reveals that many racial groups are at greater risk for illness, hospitalizations, and dying before their time from the COVID-19 viruses and other preventable diseases. Don’t let lawmakers leave New Yorkers out in the cold. The COVID-19 pandemic hit New York hard. Thousands lost jobs. Many of us fell behind on paying utility bills. And now a shutoff moratorium that prevented providers from turning off our heat and electricity has expired. Without action from lawmakers, shutoffs could begin any day, leaving more than a million homes without heat, hot water, or electricity.

ENTER TAINMENT TLC’S HIT SERIES RETURNS MY FEET ARE KILLING ME is back for season 4 — and bringing seriously extreme medical issues with it.
Throughout the new season, Dr. Brad Schaeffer, Dr. Ebonie Vincent and Dr. Sarah Haller will deal with a large mass, a foot that “looks like a big volcano, bubbling over about ready to erupt,” and enter an “unchartered territory” of podiatry.
DR. EBONIE VINCENT (Image provided by TLC)
In the season premiere, a woman fears losing her foot after walking on a broken tibia for 10 years, golf ball-sized bunions may prevent another woman from ever running again, and a man is dealing with intense foot pain after his big toe was transplanted to his hand.
Other cases featured during the season will include a woman whose feet have grown horns, three sisters who are all suffering from various foot fungi, a man whose foot looks like a hobbit foot, growing to twice its size due to a case of gout, and a woman with a severe case of webbed feet where only a unique treatment using fish scales in conjunction with surgery can help. Through it all, the three doctors graciously handle each patient in hopes of giving them pain-free lives. Season 4 of My Feet Are Killing Me will premiere Wednesday, May 4 at 9/8c on TLC.

Yet, they were ignored and invisible by society’s accepted standards. Yet, they accomplished their strongest, swiftest, and highest athletic goals,” said the award-winning sports journalist. Oliver, a two-time Hall of Fame inductee of Florida A&M University’s track division, added, “I am honored to be a part of telling their stories at a time when all of us welcomes inspiration from these amazing overcomers in Georgia history.” Also, a Georgia resident, Oliver joins Ross, who is the Filmmaker-in-Residence of Ours Studios. Norville, Joy Payton-Stevens, Shea Scruggs, Weston Sprott, and Titus Underwood. BON will galvanize the industry, break down barriers to inclusion, and confront long-standing inequities in treatment and process. On Monday, May 2, 2022, BON launches its first public-facing campaign focused on advancing equity and inclusion in American orchestras. Through an open letter — “Dear American Orchestras”—BON calls for American orchestras to take decisive action against racial injustice in the industry. The campaign provides a platform for allies who seek a race equity culture to commit to change in

the orchestral community. The letter calls for: 1. Orchestras — through their Boards, management, musicians, and music directors—to hire Black musicians and support opportunities for emerging Black artists. 2. Funders — both institutional and individual—invest in the long-term viability of organizations already committed to Black orchestral artistry and think big about the possibilities for American orchestras in our changing culture and society. 3. Unions, particularly the American Federation of Musicians and related conferences (ICSOM, ROPA), to stand in solidarity with Black members by honoring the values of fair workplaces and addressing barriers to fair and equitable audition and tenure practices. On Monday, May 9, 2022, BON calls for a Day of Solidarity, an opportunity for allies, champions, and supporters, within the music industry and beyond to amplify the call to action of “Dear American Orchestras.” Supporters are asked to amplify the campaign by posting a single graphic—provided by BON— to their social timelines. The graphic will be a mosaic of the thousands of Black orchestral

Using his teeth in a very “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” fashion, Enamel leads his scared classmates home to their worried parents. The town thanks him with an award for heroism, and everyone starts brushing their teeth and smiling. Enamel the Camel is an upbeat humorous story for children about sticking out, stepping up, and the importance of good dental care written by Dr. Mike King, a pediatric dentist in New York City since 1986. In his dental practice, Dr. Mike as he is called, uses jokes, magic tricks, and a calming nature to treat his young patients. Enamel the Camel is his latest book to help children understand and appreciate their teeth. He has pioneered the philosophy or “flossophy” as he likes to call it, that smiling and laughing should be part of a child’s dental experience. Enamel wishes he were like all the other camels who live in Camel-lot, but his front teeth are bigger than anyone else’s. And they stick out!
