NAACP calls on president for STUDENT DEBT RELIEF
The NAACP sent an open letter to President Joe Biden emphasizing the urgent need for comprehensive student debt relief and calling for him to fulfill his promises to the Black community.
NAACP President & CEO, Derrick Johnson, released the following statement:
"Once again, Black America's needs have been deprioritized by the leaders we depend on. We will not silently stand by as Black folks and our most pressing needs are used as bargaining chips in political negotiations. It is imperative that the Black community receives the student debt relief we were promised. Collectively attaining the generational wealth that we have long been denied depends on it. Let me be very clear - even if the Supreme Court issues an unfavorable ruling, the Biden Administration is still on the hook to deliver. The NAACP remains steadfast in demanding meaningful progress in this vital area on behalf of Black America. We'll stop at nothing to ensure that we can all thrive."
NAACP National Director of Youth and College, Wisdom Cole, said of the letter: "I've traveled across the country, engaging with young, Black voters who are mobilized and determined. Through my conversations, I've heard one resounding
demand from them: 'We want to be debt free in 2023!' It's time for the President and his leaders to recognize the urgency of this matter and take decisive action to ensure that the burden of student loan debt is alleviated for the Black community. Young voters have repeatedly shown up and delivered for this Administration — they expect a return on their investment of time and passion. One thing is clearfailure is not an option."
Excerpts from the letter include: "Given the Administration's stated
focus on equity, it is disappointing that narrowing the racial wealth gap was not given a higher priority. Education debt results from the high cost of aspiration, and Black Americans' core belief in attaining the American Dream. Yet, the lack of generational wealth, predatory lending practices that increase the high cost of financing education, and other factors create barriers to economic success."
On Tuesday, June 20th, NAACP National
Director of Youth & College Wisdom Cole and Center for Responsible Lending Director of Federal Campaigns Jaylon Herbin, along with other student debt advocacy leaders will host a press conference calling on the Biden Administration and other elected leaders to follow through on their promise to deliver student debt relief. The press conference comes on the heels of the Association sending a letter to the Administration outlining their frustration with the outcome of the recent debt ceiling negotiations.

EPA PLEDGES $115M TO SUPPORT WATER INFRASTRUCTURE REPAIRS
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced its decision to provide $115 million to support water infrastructure investments within the City of Jackson. The long-term investment from the federal government comes on the heels of a disastrous water crisis that left thousands of Jackson residents without safe drinking water as a result of neglectful state policies.
"Let me be clear - there is no racial justice without environmental justice. That's why the NAACP is overjoyed by today's announcement from the EPA The decision to finally invest in Jackson's infrastructure is a long overdue win made possible by the Association's tireless advocacy efforts in collaboration with Jackson residents and our allies on the ground," said NAACP President & CEO, Derrick Johnson. "We thank EPA Administrator Regan and the Biden Administration for stepping up when our state leaders refused to. While this journey is far from over, this investment represents a pivotal step towards clean drinking water for all. It's a great day to be in Jackson."
Over the past year, the NAACP has worked closely with leaders and residents in Jackson to address the State of Mississippi's gross mishandling of the water crisis and the history of inequities that caused it. In September 2022, the NAACP filed a Title VI Complaint for Investigation of the state's discriminatory allotment of federal funds which resulted in a federal civil rights investigation.
"Far too often, governmental leadership has failed to make tangible environmental investments in our communities, resulting in devastating, and sometimes tragic outcomes for Black families," said NAACP Director of Environmental and Climate Justice, Abre' Conner "The announcement of this funding from the EPA makes it clear that the Biden Administration is committed to finding innovative ways to demonstrate what investments in places like Jackson should entail. The fight for clean water is far from over, but today's news provides a beacon of hope for our future."
Late last year, Abre' testified before Congress, providing expert analysis of the neglect and disinvestment in Jackson and the broader, national implications of infrastructure failures. NAACP leaders continue to monitor the recovery process in collaboration with Jackson Mayor Chokwe Lumumba and EPA Administrator Michael Regan and ensure that the community is aware of the progress and decisions made.

AFRICAN AMERICAN CULTURAL FUND ANNOUNCES 2023 GRANTS
In recognition of Juneteenth, the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund, a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, announced $3.8 million in grant funding to protect and preserve 40 sites representing African American history. With more than $95 million raised, the Action Fund is the largest resource dedicated to the preservation of African American historic places. “The Action Fund’s investment in and celebration of 40 historic African American places illustrates our belief that historic preservation plays an important role in American society,” said Brent Leggs, Executive Director, African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund and Senior Vice President, National Trust for Historic Preservation “The history embodied in these places is emblematic of generational aspirations for freedom, the pursuit of education, a need for beauty and architecture, and joys of social life and community bonds. That’s why the Action Fund believes all Americans must see themselves and our shared history in this year’s grantee list if we are to create a culturally conscious nation.”
Since 2017, the Action Fund has received an unprecedented total of 5,638 funding proposals requesting $655 million. The program has supported 242 grantee projects through its investment of $20M. “The Action Fund and the local preservationists it supports across the nation are leading crucial work to protect and promote undervalued places and stories that are an essential part of our shared American history,” said Justin Garrett Moore, program officer for the
Humanities in Place program at the Mellon Foundation “Grants supporting projects designed by Black architects and at HBCUs will better acknowledge

The Action Fund’s 2023 list of grantees’ expand the American story by including sites like: Idlewild’s Hotel Casa Blanca (MI), Calfee Training School (VA), Watts Happening Cultural Center (CA), McAfee Swimming Pool (KS), Dew Drop Inn (LA) and more.
As our nation honors Emancipation and Juneteenth, the Action Fund asks the public to learn more about these sites, consider donating to their specific fundraising needs and make certain the full American story is told.
Together, we can honor the contributions of those who came before us while ensuring that future generations can connect with their roots, draw inspiration and lessons from the past, and appreciate the cultural, architectural, and social legacies of the world they will inhabit.
the power and creativity of those who have shaped and stewarded spaces and experiences that build more just communities. By elevating these places through much-needed organizational capacity, technical assistance, capital funding, and programming, these projects will help tell a fuller American story.”
New to this year’s list is a targeted focus on conserving modernist structures designed by Black architects. In its first grant round, eight historic structures will receive $1.2M to help advance long-term preservation planning. This funding is part of the Conserving Black Modernism partnership led by the Action Fund with support from the Getty Foundation
designers, whose buildings speak to the experience of Black communities in this era,” said Joan Weinstein, Director of the Getty Foundation “These grants will preserve important sites, deliver training to the people who care for them, and reveal new stories for all of us about the talents and resiliency of Black architects in twentieth century America.”
The preservation of Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) across the country is also a focus of this year’s grant announcement. Through the Action Fund’s HBCU Cultural Heritage Stewardship Initiative, six HBCUs will receive nearly $700,000 funding to ensure the protection of their cultural assets.
With amounts ranging from $50K to $150K, Action Fund grants support preservation efforts across four categories:
BUILDING CAPITAL : Supporting the restoration and rehabilitation of cultural assets important to Black history
INCREASING ORGANIZATIONAL CAPACITY : Providing leadership staff positions within nonprofits stewarding Black heritage sites
PROJECT PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT : Funding planning activities tied to the development of preservation plans, feasibility studies, and fundraising
PROGRAMMING AND EDUCATION : Advancing storytelling through public education and creative interpretation

COMMENTARY A WARNING TO ALL: FLORIDA IS HOME TO HATE
-- By LEON W. RUSSELL Chairman of the NAACP Board of Directors
Recently my home state of Florida has been at the center of heated debates. We have faced a devastating neartotal abortion ban, new laws further restricting trans rights, a war against immigrants, and extensive efforts to remove DEI programs and Black history curricula from our schools. Our state's so-called leaders' unrelenting assaults on fundamental rights have made Black residents and visitors alike feel unwelcome and unsafe in our state. The NAACP is committed to ensuring that Florida is a place where Black Floridians can exist freely and have every opportunity to thrive. Unfortunately, that is not a reality right now under Governor Ron DeSantis' thumb. He has proven that his Florida poses a threat to our lives and livelihood. We refuse to allow his vision for Florida, and this nation, to become our reality. Our travel advisory is an effort to put the country on notice — if you are Black, if you are a woman, if you are an immigrant, if you are part of the LGBTQ+ community — be aware that your life, your full being, is not valued by Florida's so-called leaders.
As Americans, we encounter advisories every day to help us stay informed and stay safe. For example, we use simple television and movie advisories to protect our families and children from content that might threaten their well-being. In the same fashion, our advisory, informed by concerns raised by Black Floridians themselves, openly disclosed that Florida is hostile toward not only
Black people but also to other people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, and especially women. We want the entire country to be wide awake and fully aware of what they may encounter if they visit.
Since he took office, Ron DeSantis

no longer safe, let alone an affirming place for their daughter. In a recent interview, Dwyane affirmed what many Floridians know to be true: "My family would not be accepted or feel comfortable there."
Black Floridians are under attack from our own state government, and those in elected positions of power have their eyes set on making their version of "success" in this state a reality across the country.
The NAACP's travel advisory served as a spotlight on the lack of support and respect that Black Floridians receive. We uplifted the struggles of Black Floridians and the potential dangers that Black people, women, and other vulnerable communities may face due to this hateful leadership.
The sun now shines bright on the future of Black Floridians because of the NAACP's travel advisory. People are awake and ready to take action to make sure that we can reverse the hate-filled course. People are more ready than ever to support Black businesses, residents, and students because DeSantis' attack on us is clear and understood.
has been on a mission to control and restrict freedom of expression and fundamental liberties. Through his legislative agenda, he has created an environment that is unsafe, particularly for Black Americans. The administration's efforts cater to the gun lobby, bans essential reproductive healthcare, limits immigrants' rights, and pushed legislation that puts trans people in harm's way. Recently, these harmful policies have gone even further, robbing our
planned to invest $1 billion, which would have undoubtedly helped create more jobs. Floridians are paying the price for these dangerous and illadvised policies.
Corporations are not the only ones leaving Florida – families across the state have made the difficult decision to leave in search of greater safety and support. Earlier this year, Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union explained that they decided to leave Florida because the state was
The NAACP's highest priority has been, and always will be, the betterment of Black people. We cannot stand for DeSantis' vision for Florida, which he sees as his blueprint for America. We call on people across the country to listen to the needs of Black Floridians – knowing that they are, in fact, the needs of all of Black America – and join us in our continued fight for equality and freedom. Join your local NAACP branch as we work against hate-based policies to create a sustainable and equitable future.

Early screening of your cognitive health allows for earlier detection and diagnosis of potential Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia. Early diagnosis means more time to plan for the future, express your preferences for care, adapt your home environment and seek support. We can help you learn about available resources.
Early diagnosis also provides opportunities to try new treatments. For those who are experiencing possible early cognitive decline, we offer the opportunity to participate in ongoing research studies/clinical trials that may help slow the progression of Alzheimer’s symptoms. Our Center of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease — one of 10 centers in New York State — is funded in part by a grant from the New York State Department of Health.

‘BET AMPLIFIED’ ARTIST FOR JUNE 2023 NAMED
BET names Grammy Award-Winning Roc Nation musician Ambré as its BET Amplified Artist for June. BET Amplified is BET Music's stamp of approval for the next big thing in music. As BET celebrates Black Music Month and Pride Month, the brand is proud to amplify powerful and talented up-and-coming Black artists that are a part of the LGBTQIA+ community, and Ambré is no exception.
From being discovered on Soundcloud back in 2014 to her most recently acclaimed 2022 release, 3000°, the New Orleans-bred musician’s rocketship to success shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. The Grammy® Awardwinning songwriter recently garnered her first Billboard No. 1 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart with her single “I’m Baby” featuring British singer/songwriter Jvck James. If you didn’t catch Ambré headlining her Wild Magnolia Tour, you may have seen her performing at Essence Festival or heard her music featured on the HBO hit series “Insecure.” And now, fans won’t have to wait long for new music from the R&B sensation with the upcoming June release of her much-anticipated project, “Who’s Loving You” – which is sure to be a top contender for the album of the summer!
Ambré can now also add BET Amplified Artist to her list of accolades. As a BET Amplified artist, Ambré will receive BET Music’s support across multiple BET campaigns and platforms. Previous BET
Amplified artists include Armani White, Babyface Ray, Coco Jones, DIXSON, Doechii, Glorilla, HDBeenDop, Ice Spice, Kalan.FrFr, Lakeyah, Larry June, Lehla Samia, Lola Brooke, Muni Long, Nardo Wick, Tone Stith, and more!
Born and raised in the melting pot that birthed jazz music, this self-taught musician, producer, and writer has crafted an amazing work of art dedicated to her city – the aptly titled 3000°. The EP’s name initially came about as an ode to the classic projects from two New Orleans legends, Juvenile’s 400 Degreez, and Lil Wayne’s 500 Degreez. It also signifies the city’s traditionally hot climate, especially during the summer months.
“I’ve never felt as much at peace with a body of work that I’ve made as I have with this project,” Ambré – who was discovered on Soundcloud following her first release in 2014 – said of her EP. “Everything is perfect, all the stars have aligned… and that’s because of the intention that I put behind it, along with what everyone else who worked on it put behind it. It was made with love, and we made it for New Orleans.” 3000° is an 8-song letter of love to all the people, places and feelings that encompass the ‘504.’ Beginning with the song “3-Peat,” Ambré speaks about the success of her two previous releases –2015’s Wanderlust and 2019’s Pulp – and how her fans and critics are anticipating another album of the same caliber.

WHAT’S A CREDIT SCORE AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT
Your credit score is a number that tells a story of who you are as a customer. The good news is that understanding how it works and monitoring it can help you take control of the story over time.
Credit scores are determined by agencies called credit bureaus and are based on your accounts you have opened, and how and when you pay down debt. When you apply for credit, lenders check your credit score, credit report, credit history and other items to decide whether they will approve your request, and then how much they can offer you and what interest rate you will pay. Because of that, credit scores are important for your overall financial health.
Here are 5 key tips to help you make the most of your score and build it over time:
Learn your number. Knowing your credit score is the first step. There are many free credit check tools available that work by doing a ‘soft pull’ that won’t affect your score. One example is Credit Journey by Chase. You can also request your credit report from all three credit bureaus for free once a year. The Federal Trade Commission – a government agency that supports consumer rights—offers more information at https://consumer. ftc.gov. You can also visit www.annualcreditreport.com
Know how your score is calculated. There are six key areas that make up a credit score:
your payment history
how much you owe on your debts or balances
new accounts or credit opened
credit checks
available credit
and your credit history or how long you have kept an account open.
These factors determine your score and influence any changes, however the most important one is making payments on time, which accounts for about 40% of the score.
Build your credit. Scores can range from 300 to 850. According to the credit bureaus, a score of about 700 is considered “good”. To build your score, pay bills on time and consider setting up automatic payments. If possible, pay down any debt you can, and only apply for accounts you need.
Prepare for large purchases. If you are getting ready to make a large purchase and plan to apply for new credit, such as a home or car loan, review your credit report and score to help you apply with confidence. Credit scores and credit history help lenders determine how much credit they will offer and at what interest rate. Sometimes, scores also can be affected by inaccuracies on your report, so checking ahead of time will help you identify and resolve potential issues before a lender does a credit check.
Only apply for credit when you need to. When you apply for new credit, lenders do a “hard pull”—which means getting access to your full report— which may cause your score to decrease. However, if you use credit monitoring tools, it results in a “soft” pull of information and does not impact your score.

COMCAST GRANT TO TRAIN STUDENTS IN DIGITAL SKILLS
Comcast Corporation today announced a new $4.5 million, three-year grant to Per Scholas, a leading national nonprofit advancing economic equity through tech training and career building. The investment will enable more than 10,000 diverse adults across 15 markets to launch new tech careers, empowering individuals from lowwealth communities to earn a collective $450 million in new wages alone. Notably, the funding will also support Per Scholas expansion to three new markets in need of skilled technologists for digital economies — allowing for even greater community impact.
“The key to closing the digital divide goes beyond just mere access to the Internet,” said Dalila WilsonScott, EVP and Chief Diversity Officer for Comcast Corporation & President of the Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation “With nearly one-third of U.S. workers lacking the basic digital skills needed to function and compete in our increasingly digital job market, we need urgent focus on digital literacy and technical skilling — particularly in communities of color. By continuing our partnership with Per Scholas, we are helping to produce measurable outcomes that will create a more prepared and inclusive workforce and better ensure that no community is left behind.”
Since 2021, the Per ScholasComcast partnership has resulted in more than 2,500 trained learners across a dozen markets, empowering nearly 1,700 graduates to launch tech careers, generating more than $76 million in collective new earnings. Through this new three-year grant and market expansion, Per Scholas learners
will graduate from the “10,000 Accessible Careers in Tech” program equipped with in-demand technical and professional skills that prepares them to succeed in technology careers, with in-house support to identify employment opportunities during and post-graduation. Per Scholas current training tracks include AWS re/Start, Cybersecurity, IT Support, Java Development, and Software Engineering.
“Comcast continually helps Per Scholas unlock potential, building a future of unlimited possibilities,” said Plinio Ayala, President and CEO of Per Scholas “Our partnership is powerful — Comcast is investing in communities, ensuring digital skills are ubiquitous across America, and hiring Per Scholastrained technologists. Because of Comcast’s support, we just celebrated our inaugural graduation in Indianapolis, and I’m looking forward to making impact together in cities and communities that could benefit most from Per Scholas’s nationally-recognized, proven tech skills training.”
The 15 markets where the Per Scholas-Comcast partnership is making a difference every day include Atlanta, Baltimore, Greater Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, Orlando, the National Capital Region, Newark, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Seattle, New York, and two new cities to be announced soon. The Per Scholas grant announcement is part of a $25 million comprehensive funding initiative specifically targeted at creating economic opportunity through digital skills building in 2023, and Project UP, Comcast’s $1 billion commitment to help advance digital equity and build
a future of unlimited possibilities.

PETCO PARTNERS WITH SNOOP DOGG TO PROMOTE PET CARE
Petco Health and Wellness Company, Inc. (Nasdaq: WOOF) has announced it has teamed up with hip-hop legend and devoted pet parent Snoop Dogg for a new advertising campaign that spotlights the value Petco offers when it comes to caring for pets' whole health. The campaign is the latest iteration of the brand's long-standing "It's What We'd Want If We Were Pets" platform, which personifies pets with human actors to affirm Petco's commitment to delivering them the same quality of care as any other member of the family.
The campaign's hero 30-second spot, "DOGG WALK," features the rapper as the human version of a Doberman Pinscher, aptly reminiscent of the breed Snoop famously transformed into in the video for his top hit "Who Am I? (What's My Name?)" on his 1993 debut album, "Doggystyle." In the film, Snoop's familiar pet persona is the epitome of health thanks to the high-quality — yet wallet-friendly — nutrition, supplies and care he gets from Petco. In two accompanying shorter spots, Snoop confirms that dogs like him — and the Doberman — love a good deal and can always sniff them out.
"We recognize that pet parents want to get the most for their dollars and are seeking compelling deals for high-quality products wherever they can. With this campaign we wanted to have some fun while reinforcing that no pet parent should ever have to compromise on the quality of their pets' care in return for a good deal — that whatever their budget, they can continue to give their pets the same high-quality care they'd want for themselves or any other member of their family," said Katie Nauman, Petco's Chief Marketing Officer "Seeing this value through the eyes of the ultimate dog and dog dad — 'Tha Doggfather' himself — Snoop Dogg gives pet parents a fresh perspective on our comprehensive health and wellness offering at a value they can feel good about."
Driven by its mission to improve the lives of pets and pet parents, Petco's 360-degree pet health and wellness ecosystem — which includes differentiated products, pet wellness services, veterinary care, and membership offerings — provides pet parents with value and ease so they can continue giving their pets the best care possible.
"When it comes to shopping for my pets, I choose stuff for them I'd choose for myself. My pets gotta look good, feel good, smell good," said Snoop Dogg "But it's hard to know how to keep our pets healthy and happy when they can't tell us what they need. When I shop at Petco, it's all there, even my own pet line, Snoop Doggie Doggs. They have great experts and great deals, so I can relax and trust that my pets are always fresh and getting the best at a fair price. Now that's value."
A long-time pet parent and grandparent to dogs, cats and reptiles, Snoop Dogg is also sharing a curated, shoppable list of his favorite "Petco Picks" that support pet health and wellness and his personal lifestyle. Available now at petco.com, products include toys, treats, grooming supplies, and items from Snoop's own pet wear brand, Snoop Doggie Doggs, which will become available at Petco pet care centers nationally in August.
Snoop Dogg's Petco Picks:
"Munchies" — tasty treats to satisfy cravings: WholeHearted Peanut Butter Training Treats and Crazy Dog Mini Pizza
Treats
"Ride on Out" — travel gear for comfort, safety and style: EveryYay Road Trippin' Car Hammock and Sherpa Deluxe Travel Pet Carrier

"Game-Day Fits" — apparel to match your style: Snoop Doggie Doggs Halftime Jersey, Snoop Doggie Doggs Boss Lady Jersey, and Snoop Doggie Doggs Off the Chain Hoodie, Snoop Doggie Doggs Off the Chain Collar
Pet parents can get even more value on everyday purchases when they sign up for Petco's Vital Care membership. The program includes free and paid tiers to make it more convenient, accessible, and affordable for pet parents to leverage every resource available at Petco, whether it's at more than 1,500 pet care centers, on Petco. com or in the Petco app. Benefits include grooming perks, exclusive discounts, dedicated tools, resources and more. Vital Care members can also earn double points and hold rewards longer with Petco Pay, Petco's private label credit card. Visit petco. com/vitalcare to learn more and sign up.
The new campaign, developed in partnership with creative agency Droga5, part of Accenture Song, will run through the end of this year across multiple platforms, including TV, OLV and digital, along with social content leveraging Snoop's Petco Picks and behind-the-scenes footage of Snoop and pets, including his thoughts on being a dog dad.

SPRITE SUMMER CAMPAIGN HONORS HIP-HOP-50TH
Sprite – a brand that has championed hip-hop culture for more than 35 years – will celebrate the groundbreaking genre’s 50th anniversary this summer with a buzzworthy TV spot starring a crew of living legends and rising stars, a new limited-edition flavor, sponsorship of one of the year’s most anticipated concert tours and a series of exclusive merch and experience drops.
Nas, Rakim, Latto and GloRilla will star in fresh Sprite creative paying tribute to the past, present and future of hiphop. A remix of The Sugarhill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight” – the first-ever hiphop song to hit the Billboard Top 40 –is infused with memorable bars from the cast of old-schoolers and contemporary artists and anchors the campaign with a rapping, time-traveling love letter to the music that has shaped popular culture over the last five decades.
A.P. Chaney, Creative Director for Sprite North America, said the brand’s longstanding hip-hop credentials are unmatched. “Our resume speaks for itself,” Chaney said. “Sprite took a chance on hip-hop before it was cool, and has always been of the culture, not only for the culture. We’ve shown up for both moments big and small, amplifying the endless possibilities of the nowomnipresent hip-hop lifestyle and its profound impact on music, sports and fashion. So, it’s only fitting that we pay homage to all hip-hop has been, is and will be.”
Just as the campaign will honor hiphop history, the new limited-time-only (LTO) Sprite Lymonade Legacy is a remixed nod to the OG crisp, lemon-lime refresher. Sprite’s take on strawberry lemonade, which was inspired by fan
requests on social media, offers a delicious combination of tried-and-true and something new. The LTO flavor will be available in a range of packages at retailers nationwide, and exclusively in fountain and frozen formats at 7-Eleven stores.
“Our ‘Summer of Drops’ focuses on our fans’ passion points – music, fashion, art and entertainment – and draws inspiration from sneakerhead drop culture,” said Aaliyah Shafiq Ely, VP, Sparkling Flavors Category. “The diverse array of prizes offers something for
OBEYING THIRST AND THE VERSE FOR 37 YEARS
Sprite’s ties to hip-hop date back to 1986, when rapper Kurtis Blow was cast in the “Now More Than Ever” spot, becoming one of the first hip-hop artists featured in a national, mainstream ad. The commercial inspired the “I Like The Sprite In You” ads featuring popular artists like LL Cool J and Kris Kross The 90s brought a deeper dive into the genre with the “Obey Your Thirst” campaign starring Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, A Tribe Called Quest and Grand Puba (who reportedly coined the slogan “Obey Your Thirst” during a rehearsal). Legendary rapper – and star of this summer’s campaign – Nas made his Sprite debut alongside AZ on the stoop in 1997. Sprite advertising in the aughts embraced hip-hop’s next generation of stars.
Original Sprite and Sprite Lymonade Legacy packaging will feature a fresh design celebrating 50 years of hip-hop. The look takes cues from summer and the crisp, refreshing taste of Sprite, as well as boomboxes, studio mixers and other tech tools synonymous with hiphop’s journey.
Fans can scan on-pack QR codes on both products throughout the summer to access digital “drop shops” with hundreds of giveaways. Prizes include exclusive content featuring Latto and Rakim and covetable merch including autographed Nas hats, GloRilla tour tees, a Latto gold mic, and Rakim directorial slates from the TVC shoot.
everyone to get excited about, and our overall campaign is the latest example of Sprite responding to what fans want with both experiences and products.” Premier experiential giveaways include Rolling Loud Lifetime Passes and meetand-greet tickets for Drake’s “It’s All A Blur” summer tour, which will feature Sprite as the lead beverage sponsor. Drake has partnered with Sprite for more than a decade, starting with the "Spark" multinational campaign in 2012 – his first worldwide deal – and continuing with 2015’s “Obey Your Verse.” The 57-date arena tour marks the hip-hop megastar’s first series of concerts in five years.
In 2013, “Obey Your Verse” celebrated the artistry of 2Pac, Missy Elliott, J. Cole, Drake and Rakim by decorating Sprite cans with some of their most inspirational lyrics. Rakim, who also stars in this summer’s campaign, first appeared in a Sprite ad with 2016’s “Obey Your Verse – Lyrical Collection” spot.
Sprite’s support of the creators and arbiters of hip-hop continued with 2021’s virtual “Live From The Label” concert series featuring Latto – also in this summer’s campaign – as well as Saweetie, Jack Harlow and more.
