AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION REDUCES HEALTH CARE INEQUITIES IN BLACK AMERICANS
Black Americans have the highest incidence of cardiac arrest outside of the hospital and are significantly less likely to survive Cardiac arrest in Black neighborhoods is associated with alarmingly low treatment and survival rates and recent studies have shown lower rates of both bystander CPR and bystander AED use in these neighborhoods.

RAPPER TI OPENS AFFORDABLE HOUSING COMPLEX
Atlanta rapper T.I., alongside his wife Tiny, graced the ribboncutting ceremony of their inaugural affordable housing development on Tuesday. This newly unveiled project encompasses 143 apartments, with an additional 25 units dedicated to accommodating homeless youth. The
Intrada Westside, situated opposite Center Hill Park in the northwest part of Atlanta, is a significant endeavor driven by their commitment to the local community.
T.I., whose birth name is Clifford Harris, expressed his deep-rooted
connection to the community’s struggles during his youth. Reflecting on the occasion, he acknowledged the positive impact that the arts and entertainment industry has had in the city. It has not only fostered collaboration but also generated the financial resources required to provide essential amenities to the community. The developers have unveiled this affordable housing complex at a site that holds sentimental value to T.I., as it was once a shopping center where his grandmother used to shop for groceries. This project not only reflects the rapper’s personal history but also serves as a testament to the importance of addressing the housing needs of the community, particularly for vulnerable populations like homeless youth.
Affordable housing is of paramount importance in large metropolitan cities for several reasons. Firstly, it addresses the pressing issue
of housing affordability, ensuring that residents, regardless of their income, have access to safe and decent living conditions. Secondly, affordable housing contributes to the overall stability and well-being of urban communities. When people have access to affordable homes, they are better equipped to secure employment, pursue education, and lead healthier lives. Moreover, it helps reduce homelessness and the associated social and economic burdens on the city.
Lastly, affordable housing fosters a more inclusive and diverse urban environment, where individuals from various socioeconomic backgrounds can coexist and contribute to the city’s vibrant culture and economy. In essence, affordable housing is a cornerstone of a thriving, equitable, and sustainable metropolitan landscape.

SHE Chicago: The organization will provide a hands-on leadership development experience for 15 girls at the Disney Imagination campus. The Girls Opportunity Alliance's new commitment aligns with its mission to empower adolescent girls by lifting up grassroots organizations, using public awareness to drive action, and providing high level engagement opportunities for girls. This targeted effort in Chicago builds on the Alliance’s prior engagements in the city, including engagement opportunities for girls in Chicago, focus groups with leaders who are serving girls across Chicago, and roundtable discussions between youth participants, leaders, and the Obamas..
The Girls Opportunity Alliance is dedicated to empowering girls in Chicago. Our city-wide engagement includes public awareness, convening girl-serving leaders, and exposing adolescent girls to opportunities that help them reach their full potential. Initiatives like our Shadow Day series have provided career exposure and dynamic experiences for more than 50 girls. Additionally, the Alliance provides organizational support to over 60 Chicago-based girl-serving organizations. In November 2023, the Alliance hosted our largest-ever convening of Chicago grassroots leaders. Can you blame with Maxwell, Babyface, DJ Cassidy, Jeezy, Scarface, Tamia, Jaheim, Marsha Ambrosius and October London all announced as performers? Now the Jazz In The Gardens Music Fest has revealed the complete artist lineup, and it’s gotten even bigger and better.
Scheduled to take place in Miami Gardens, Florida at the Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday, March 9th and Sunday, March 10th, the first round of artists are all set for Day 2 of the festival. Day 1’s lineup is just as lit with a trio of headliners and additional acts throughout the day.
R&B lovers will be in heaven with Summer Walker and Jazmine Sullivan both scheduled to headline on the first day. As the festival’s new partner the Black Promoters
Collective previously stated, they wanted to bring Afrobeats artists to JITG, and they’ll do just that with one of the biggest in the genre, Nigerian superstar Davido, on board as a headliner.
Day 1 of the festival will be on a Saturday, but you can expect for gospel music great Kirk Franklin to have it sounding like church on a Sunday during his performance. There’ll be even more R&B to be
heard from everyone’s favorite unbothered heartthrob Omarion, singer/rapper Tink and the singersongwriter with one of the most prolific pens in the game Eric Bellinger. Rounding things out will be a special DJ set by Kid Capri who is sure to bring some hip-hop flavor to JITG’s opening day this year, which will be hosted by comedienne JessHilarious.
Organizers of the 17th Annual Jazz In The Gardens Music Fest still have some tricks up their sleeve and “more artists to be announced” according to their latest flyer. Expect your mind to be blown even more than it already is once JITG shares who else they’ve got on tap to perform. One thing is for sure, you’re not going to want to miss this Black Music extravaganza this March in South Florida. Be sure to visit the Jazz In The Gardens Music Fest website to lock in your tickets ASAP and plan your trips accordingly.

If you are anywhere in your journey with substance use disorder,
I want you to stop, look around and open your heart.
Revel in the abundance of your existence. See how small substance use disorder can be when sat next to all that you are or ever could be.
Fill your existence with beauty, purpose and a life of service.
And your substance use disorder— your history of addiction, the things you may have done that you are not proud of—will one day be small enough to deal with while allowing you space to live this life of joy.
Hold on.
We are not the sum of our scars but rather a beautiful mosaic of the life they hold together.
